Hey folks I'm on Cara :> cara.app/thestarfishface I've been posting lots of sketchbook stuff there so come take a looksee :> Also: Art Fight starts soon, and I am there as well! artfight.net/~thestarfishface
I have a smaller set of these I haven't used since I got them bc I really do prefer digital art but now that i have design classes that need u to use a sketch book I might use them again since they are good quality
I had a really similar experience when I got back into sketchbooking!! I love digital art but it’s too easy to get lost in feeling obligated to make every digital piece perfect and clean. Lately I try to do all my daily drawing and practice/plan work in my sketchbook and save the digital art for when I’m ready to commit to drawing something finalized! It’s really saved my relationship with art c:
Hey June! Didn't expect to see you here xD. Also, the traditional medium really lets you be unapologetically messy and just have a little fun. Plus, doesnt't feel obligated to post it either. At least for me.
Your sketchbook video was actually one of the things that inspired me to try again! It made me realize how much I missed doing marker stuff 😅 And gave me the idea to try highlighters on the back of my pages, since they won’t bleed through :>
I am a lazy person, whenever I make a mistake in my art (which is usually digital) I usually just go "Eh, I don't want to fix it" and so I don't. But I think it's given me some confidence I think. If I think there's a few mistakes or a few things are off, I post it anyways because why should I make it perfect? Art isn't perfect and by god neither am I. I like seeing the evidence of the person behind the art, and those little imperfections are mine ^^
Honestly, that's kinda my mindset a little bit. I know I can't fully draw that hand, a pose, or a background right the first time. I kinda get it as good as I can manage at the moment cause I know I'll need more practice anyway. Gotta build my muscle memory somehow.
I wish I could but I swear those imperfections are staring at me and most of the time I know how to fix them, so I end up spending wayy to long cleaning everything up 😭 Its bad but at the same time it would come out way better than if I ignored my mistakes
@@I_isBored It gives me the vibe of when you're in bed just about to fall asleep then ur brain goes, "Psst! Hey! Remember that time you sneezed and spray snot everywhere during your presentation in class?" XD
I'm also a freelance artist going through the same sort of thing. It's gotten to the point where I'll try to draw for fun and I'll break down crying because it's "not going to make money" and given the current state of the economy I can't really afford to NOT draw for money. However, I've put aside maybe an hour before bed when I'll just doodle in my sketchbook. I remedy the whole "no money" thing with "Oh hey if people like my webcomic enough I'll just make an artbook with the doodles later" Not healthy, I know, but I'm free and having fun so....yeah Good luck Star!
I (a traditional artist) think that digital art is harder and confusing and I applaud anyone who can use digital art as successfully as they can. Whenever I try to use my iPad to draw it always look like if the one eyed alien from lilo and stitch had a baby with Mike wazowski. So props to you to be able to draw on a tablet cause that’s really hard
I love how candid you are with the struggles you choose to share as a freelance artist. It helps give people like me a more realistic idea of what the world we may want to venture into looks like rather than the prettied up version a lot of other people seem to push. It's encouraging to know struggles like trying to enjoy your hobbies again are valid and you aren't the only person going through it. Also on the sketch book note, I'd love to see more doodles of Sage because I'm totally normal about him in a completely normal way. Idk why I love the adorable socially awkward bookworm, but I do. And I hope you keep finding ways to reignite the passion you had for your art. I love your videos and can't wait to see more of your content, especially the lil perfectly imperfect doodles.
I resonate with this SO HARD. I've been a full time graphic designer for a few years now and while I'll argue that graphic design is a different language of art, it basically killed my private fun time of drawing for myself digitally. I'm still battling these feelings and am sitting on my webcomic. It's completely written out and at this point just needs drawn. I want that fun, ambition and fire back I had in school where I drew on anything I could get my hands on.
Your description of how your attitude towards art changed for the worse when it became your job is exactly why, despite the insistence of family and friends, I chose not to pursue it as my degree in college. The idea of one of my most precious hobbies becoming a chore for me is terrifying, and I wanted to keep that healthy boundary. Even hobbyist/amateur artists become disenfranchised and burnt out on their art sometimes, and I can only imagine how much worse that must be for someone who doesn't have the luxury to take breaks and focus on something else. So happy the markers were able to give you back some spark!
Honestly, for me its more the opposite, in traditional art nothing has to be perfect and it lifts a lot of pressure compared to digital art where I feel like every pixel has to be perfect and if I make any mistakes I can never unsee them and I have to go back and fix them, which always makes digital art harder than traditional art
My oc’s name is Paleaf. She’s a white fading to a yellow-green fox with a wisp pet, Glintleaf. There best of friends that go on adventures to defend the world of Gladewood. It’s a forest with yellow green trees, one of them, The Heart Tree holds the power of the Lunaleaf. The gem that holds the power of the trees, the breeze, the rise of the sun and the set of the Moon. Marrion, (the villain) wants the power of the gem and rule the world! Marrion is a black fox with the power of gravity and massive waves of air. The story is called “The Secrets of Gladewood”. I hope you guys like it when i make it into a traditional comic, (for fun not to publish)
7:14 Keep in mind that colors of alcohol markers do fade and/or change after a while, so the cap may represent the "real" color the piece will be left with once it is finished and exists for several months.
Hey Star. I work as an animator and can relate incredibly hard to this video. It's a slightly different struggle than as a freelancer, but I used to get off work with absolutely no energy to draw. On the occasions I could muster it, the only thing I could think was, "why am I not working on my portfolio"? When the industry imploded about a year ago due to... reasons, I was more or less forced to take a break and learn to enjoy drawing for myself again. It's so hard to get that groove back, but changing media was what helped me too! I got me back into drawing my ocs like a madman too, which finally culminated in releasing the first completed part of my wife and I's game project. Art as a job is exhausting. Drawing "fun art" free of expectation for a change keeps you sane and limber for when you DO have to do "work art". Some sort of separation, even if mild, between the two is probably the best advice I have for students and aspiring freelancers. This was a great video - I hope you continue having fun on your traditional art journey. Your sketchbook is so inspiring, makes me want to dust off mine. (P.S.: Watch out for incoming fire, I'm an art fight veteran.)
I’m glad to hear all this. While I love art and try every day to make something new in digital, I've started procrastinating when I sit at my computer to start my first RUclips channel. Heck, I haven’t even put anything there yet. I not only pressure myself but feel like it's my only good feature with my low self-esteem (this is not a self-plug!). I spend so much of my time on art that I forget my household chores (yes, I'm a high school senior on summer break) my mom constantly tells me that she knows this is my passion, but I can't be so obsessed with it and get back to reality. (she also mostly thinks that it’s much easier than traditional art 😤)But honestly, I just stare at a blank digital canvas and get nothing done, because I’m scared of what people think. But thank you for basically telling me that I'm not a drama queen, and I'm not the only person with art depression.😅
I've been getting back into traditional art recently too. I never stopped sketching, but the demand of my college thesis film and my first full time job made me put doing and experimenting with traditional art on the back burner for the past 2 years. I really relate to your struggle with making art too. I find myself feeling guilty or stressed when I make art that is not for the sake of a portfolio. Using traditional mediums and letting myself play around has heped me improve much faster though. I am def more of a colored pencil and acrylic paint girl but I have always loved how fun markers are to use. I really want to get better at using them, so I will probably buy some Ohuhus with that discount. Also thank you for your webcomic recomendations!
Just saying. I dont think I've ever seen a marker brand where the color on the cap matches rhe ink color. And sometimes they color dries completely differently than it applies. All three colors are completely different. Definitely use that swatch sheet
traditional art is great but, it's not a show for lack of talent. digital art is powerful and has the same meaning. To share my experiences: I didn't really do paint or sketch booking for over a decade. part of it was a lack of proper brushes and using freeware equipment. I also lived in a dark dingy apartment where my artistic skills weren't allowed to flourish and again a prompt lack of tools. last month I discovered clip studio which has been a game changer, I actually find myself loving art so much more now! I am so much more hopeful and finally finding my love for it. I could go for days painting! It's important to take frequent breaks and rest. You gotta love what you do and take care of yourself. Drawing for fun?!. for work is honestly an amazing way to do what you love and appreciate it for the sake of what it is. it's a passion, the fire comes when you do things for fun and work can be fun too! thank you for posting this video Star.
Although I’m still a hobbyist with hopes of turning art into my job one day, this video and your traditional art stream have certainly been waking up calls to dabble back into traditional art again! Another awesome video, Star! Time to go buy a sketchbook and bust out my Ohuhu’s ✨
im so used to using the mahogany marker at this point that i recognized it immediately as "my favourite dark brown that i used for clothes a lot" that i was surprised and had to laugh at myself a bit when i remembered that this was about how different the caps are. some of the colours are so off that my brain doesnt even remember the colours for the caps anymore, just immediately thinking of the actual marker colours. idk why but thats funny to me. i first got a few of the smaller sets in October last year and i really love using them! its nice seeing you try them out!
I think many artists can relate to this, even if its not their full time job. The grind mindset, where we always need to work toward completing a project or studying- because otherwise we lose precious ~time~ It's a hard rut to get out of, since the world is so fast paced and busy that it becomes the expectation of growing up, it's rare to slow down and just be okay with simply drawing I hope you continue to find joy in what you do c:
5:01 BOOTHILL???? Also i want to say i was surprised how clean those drawings looked, like you had drawn them digitally and then pasted into your sketchbook 😅
Those sketches look so pretty! You're style translate well into traditional. I'm doing my best to practice on digital so wish me luck! Again, it was fun seeing you at Momocon. I'll spare you the re-post and just say ... Sorry for accidently making you lose the bet on Day Zero that day at Momocon.
It’s very comforting seeing someone I idolize (yes, I’m talking about you) go through problems with art similar to my own. I’ve always been an artist, for most of my life if I was alone I was drawing. But lately I’ve felt less inclined to draw. Because A: when converting to digital art my skills didn’t immediately translate that well B: I lose things very easily, sketchbooks being the worst offenders and C: unfortunately I get really hung up on weather a piece is even worth showing people and I am really hard on myself.
This is lovely, and honestly really nice to see you acknowledge and address your feelings. I don't think there's anything more disheartening for an artist to lose their spark for drawing in favour of survival. I hope your little journey into traditional art continues to do you good ❤
thanks for being a video that made me think to sit down to doodle a fun non-work art in my sketchbook today before getting to any of my comms or comic stuff
I could feel your joy as I watched and listened to you gush over your drawings, sketchbook, and your characters. It made me so happy. As a fellow artist I could really relate to a lot of what you were talking about. It felt validating in the sense of not being the only who experiences those thoughts or feelings.
I would love to see more of your traditional art and I am glad that you are drawing more for fun! I also struggled to get out of the mindset that everything I draw needs to be perfect or has to be amazing . Seeing the Star "not everything is a masterpiece" page give me freedom and be more forgiving to myself on making mistakes especially in coloring. Also hi stupid little cowboy that is taunting Star to play Honkai Starail . We are all human. We can't be perfect and that's okay ! This video is helping me to experiment more with my art and tackle my fear of doing anything more than sketching with a pencil. I can't wait for what you make next! Keep creating!
I've also recently gotten back into sketchbook drawing after years of ignoring it and I've been drawing mostly in color pens and BOY is it super freeing! i need to get ohuhu markers at some point cause they look fun but I've also heard that drawing with pen and marker can help you improve your art a lot and i've definently noticed a change in how I draw that's been super exciting to see! glad you also are getting back into sketchbooking~ its fun to see how you think and practice (also I'm yoinking that color pencil lineart idea thank youuuuuu)
thank you for talking and being vulnerable in this video. recently i put down drawing for a while because i thought i wouldn't have time in college, but you always remind me how much i love to draw and how much i love making art even though i'm quite bad at it haha! as always you are such an inspiration
I loved how passionate you are over your characters and your insights onto your artwork. ❤ It's been a relief seeing that you're honest about how living the dream may take or change your initial spark.
Not you expressing everything I’ve been feeling about art for the past few months The markers look really pleasant to use and I will definitely be checking them out once my next paycheck comes in!!
Something I’d suggest drawing in your sketchbook is Emery with a ponytail, cause now that I’ve seen Emery with short hair I wanna see her with her normal hair length but tied up into a ponytail.
I can actually really relate to this! Even though I’m not a professional artist, I’ve always put pressure on myself to post animations consistently and make them as impressive as possible (especially since quite a few artists I look up to follow me as well). I found that occasionally using oil pastels (mostly for school projects, but still) was somewhat helpful. However, what’s really helped me recently has been just making my animations super sketchy and loose. I put in the bare minimum for coloring, don’t even do lineart, and often make short and fun little things just for myself. Even if they’re simple and “not as good as my past work,” I adore making them and that’s what matters :)
I love it when artists draw in their sketchbooks. It makes me wanna try to work harder to improve my art style I really love your art style. It’s sooo pretty and I love using your work as inspiration for my own style.
I think I've said before, but it's kinda helpful and weirdly comforting to know that even artists with some level of accomplishment (like putting out a webcomic that is consistently amazing) have issues like this. Like, I used to draw a bit in high school, superheroes mostly, and I never really got past the 'terrible anatomy' stage before I put it aside to focus on study, and then work (and, admittedly, video games). I think part of it was that I didn't consider myself an artist, more just a writer, so it wasn't so important to me to keep practicing the art then. I regret that now, but when I try to make myself learn to draw there's this mix of feelings that keeps getting in the way.... stuff like "nothing looks how I want", "i should be working on story stuff (character designs, etc.) instead of doodling basic shapes" (and the inverse "I wish I could be drawing right now" when at my day job... but when I have that moment to do so, nothing comes), "I don't know what I'm doing", "I have no (good) idea"... which then merges into "this isn't fun... so maybe I shouldn't be doing it if it's not fun". All of which makes it hard to even pick up a pencil, or even think about filling a sketchbook page, let alone a whole sketchbook... So it's kinda... not 'nice', exactly, but... knowing that an Actual Artist has times when drawing just is 'not fun'... makes it seem a little less worrying. You can actually draw, and you still have that feeling. So, thanks for sharing, and I hope the "drawing for fun for work" thing works out.
As a burnt out creative who enjoys doing art with my Ohuhu markers and wants to write creatively for a living, i really appreciate this video- i get the perspective of someone more experienced than me going through similar feelings to me, and i also get to see cool art done with the same materials i use :D
I tried learning to draw becasue I saw a short 4 page Helldivers comic and it re-lit my passion for drawing that was (un-benounced to me) always in the background in my middleschool art classes. And after 2 months I fell into the mindset off "I'll do it later, I will still have the motivation then." or "Eh there is time for this later, there is still plenty of time in the day" and then poof all of it was gone, but now after watching this, its kicked me back into gear and I dont to stop this time no matter what.
I love that your getting back into drawing traditionally, I have had the same journey and with you telling your story I’ve noticed that I am going into the same pattern it’s helped me not get to a bad place 😂 now I draw my funny things and they turn out to be lighthearted moments in my own story
I’ve been loving my sketchbook too lately! You convinced me to get some more markers! If you want more sparkle, I recommend Pentel’s Dual Metallic Brushpens. They are water based, but they’re perfect for adding a splash of color (and glitter) at the end of a sketchbook session. Each one has a different color glitter, so the ink will be blue but the glitter green, so it’s like a double splash of color.
I recently got a bunch of Ohuhu markers cause they were on sale and I quite like them, now I just gotta get good enough to use them. Also you are one of the channels that inspired me to try and learn to draw so thank you Star!
It's fascinating to see where the art journey takes you. I was terrible at using makers just a couple years ago and now I do traditional art primarily. With markers. I really need to get on starting a youtube channel.
Thanks for the video, Star. I think it was part of a push I needed to get back into art in general, myself. At about 19:10, you mentioned that in traditional art, "mistakes are expected, and imperfections add charm." I couldn't help but be reminded of something I'd heard from Neil Gaiman, on the subject of writing. "Your style is the stuff that you can't help doing." I feel like I need to do a lot more art to fully grok it, but on a surface level I feel like hearing you say this helped more pieces click. For any of you other artists out there looking for even more words of inspiration, I've gotta pass along another one that I think Star embodied in the reframing of this marker deal. "Change the process, change the outcome." -Mick Gordon
Thanks for this video, I'm not in the market for markers, can't afford and I've always been far more partial to colored pencil, but I'm just so glad to have found your channel recently and this came at a great time. Honestly, I also find it hard to sit down and draw something for fun and not for any specific goal, despite me not even doing it for profit (perhaps yet, one can always hope) but I still find myself falling into that mindset of it "has" to be work or it "has" to be perfect and I'm trying to get back to that point where it was all just for fun and I didn't care about others' opinions or approval. Man, sometimes I kinda feel like sometimes little things maybe aren't so little because I definitely took it to heart years ago when someone said I should do art for profit, because I already tended toward perfectionism, but y'know what? Perfect is a lie. I've started drawing things for fun again in pencil, as that's my oldest and more comfortable medium and I've just decided I simply won't touch digital again unless it's strictly for fun, because I currently lack a drawing tablet and my weak wrist can't handle hours of painstakingly slow linework trying to get a simple drawing just right On a different note, I'm sure we're all completely normal about some of your characters ^^'. I can't either with those pikman and pokémon, they're just too funny and the pikman look squishy, I love the bug eyed little things sm. Now I wanna draw some random silly little guys too, thanks for the inspiration! Thanks as well for making me wanna draw more cute stuff to offset the nightmare fuel creatures I've recently drawn lol. Hey, but at least those were for fun, proof we can still draw purely for fun and ik I needed that for myself. I hope you're having fun too Star
I love this video and i love your vulnerability!! I'm personally LOVING this sketchbook style video, and if you ever want to do it again I would have no hesitation whatever to watch it. I honestly am not that great with beautifully worded, pulchritudinous comments... But i just wanted to express a little bit of my thoughts! 😉 You are awesome, Star!! ⭐⭐⭐
As a traditional artist. Here’s some tips, 1:you can smudge the pencil lines,it makes a shade like use. 2:this tip like thing will show how to use traditional art and digital art together. You can first put out the sketch then take a picture with whatever electronic devise you use. Then you can trace your art! (Should I do anymore tips in the future?)
I have been wanting to get back into drawing traditionally much like you said Digital Art is great cause you said the mistakes go away with the Undo button. And hearing you also say being at computer means only work hits so hard. Its been really fun to see your sketch book pages they are inspiring to see and love seeing them!
This was just the video I needed! I’ve been having a rough relationship with my art and hadn’t drawn for fun in a while, but I think I’m starting to finally remember how I got into art in the first place. Thank you for this video Also, love the webcomic recommendation section! I’m excited to see what cool new stories I can read!
Colors on caps really do not match at all and the swatch cards are a must! Also, as a digital artist uprooting my traditional inner child too, this is such a fun video and I appreciate seeing you carry over your skills across mediums. Take that doubters!! Haha 😅 thanks again for sharing 🫶🫶🫶
Back in the early 2010s when I was in highschool (around my junior year or so…so 2011) my girlfriend at the time and I had art together and since it was getting close to the end of the year we could do whatever we wanted so she brought in her laptop to try out her knew tablet and my art teacher was so enthralled lol she knew of digital art cause that’s what her son did but she HAD to teach traditional (cause…public school) so her getting to see it that close was so exciting for her
I've been learning to art for almost a year. Getting a tablet was what I needed to start, so I literally never drew before thst in my life. But since then I found I enjoy drawing physically a lot more lol. Atm I do some combo of both. But I love ohuhus. I use a mix of ohuhus and copic, but it's cheaper to ship ohuhus from their Asian warehouse to aus than it is to buy copics locally.
Hey Star, I thought I’d finally comment on a video since this is pretty relevant to my art:) I really appreciate these talking videos you make since every time I use my own Huhu markers for some pieces I’m really proud of, I always scroll through your videos to listen to while I draw! It was very close to home to see you using these markers and although I mainly focus on drawing a colorful, realistic style and have never been able to draw humans I really enjoy your content:D
Digital art is just as difficult as traditional in my opinion. I’ve done mostly traditional art for a good while and recently (past couple years) got back into digital and all the stuff knew backing highschool just left me so I gotta relearn it all.
I love doing traditional and digital art but sometimes when I try drawing in digital it looks less full in a way and my art style looks so much more different.
So I have been out of drawing (or art in general) what feels like ages. But recently I've been trying to learn 2D animation and traditional watercolor. The animation is more because I officially want to have my creation come to life. The watercolor I wanted to try making a food journal of foods I've eaten. Whether I like it or not. I'm enjoying it now, but I'm a little afraid I'll get down or depressed again like Star does when she draws too. 😣 I never like it when this kind of feeling can come up anytime and doesn't really go away. 😞
Hey, I know you probably will not see this.. but I want you to know that I would love to see your little doodles for fun, you should draw whenever you want! I understand what you mean, though. Maybe that might help your fire return? Or trying to draw more traditional artwork like this, like "drawing for fun for work" like you're saying could really help. I may not have been watching you for very long, but your artwork is really cute and pretty, and I know I'll use some for inspiration!
love to see someone else calls them "cop-ic" instead of "cope-ic" im sure im saying it wrong, considering how many people say the latter, but its cool to hear i aint alone ( ^-^) love your videos, star! i dont think ive commented on this account, but ive been subbed for awhile on my other. always awesome to see you've uploaded! thanks for being cool, be sure to take care of yourself 🩵
I've been doing traditional art since I was 10, and I can not for the LIFE of me do digital art Idk what it is about it but it's so much harder for me to do, traditional art is just so much more fun and easier for me 😭 might just be me being used to pencils but I do want to get better at digital art
Here is a thing you could try (if it helps and/or ur comfortable with it) draw what sounds fun to draw as a work project, and put it on a community post or something, throw it in as something that appears on your comic or do it so you can have something new to look at as a background for your computer, as a motivational art piece to help you create stuff in the future, idk it’s just an idea you don’t HAVE to listen to me, I’m just some rando on the internet Just have fun man 🤷♀️
i started art by drawing *scribbles* and calling them *rollercoasters* on paper. and i can confirm, digital art is still art. i find coloring easier on digital, but the lineart i find paper better. 👍
Hey folks I'm on Cara :> cara.app/thestarfishface I've been posting lots of sketchbook stuff there so come take a looksee :>
Also: Art Fight starts soon, and I am there as well! artfight.net/~thestarfishface
People saying digital art is easy are always really funny to me. I'm pretty decent at physical art but cannot, for the life of me do digital art.
Im so so sorry I replied to the wrong comment if you saw that. It probably didn't make sense out of context.
I have a smaller set of these I haven't used since I got them bc I really do prefer digital art but now that i have design classes that need u to use a sketch book I might use them again since they are good quality
I can’t do digital or physical art :(
Like most things, practice makes good work
I'm with you. It is easy to make something look good but I have a hard time rendering. The feel is different
Hey June! Didn't expect to see you here xD. Also, the traditional medium really lets you be unapologetically messy and just have a little fun. Plus, doesnt't feel obligated to post it either. At least for me.
Your sketchbook video was actually one of the things that inspired me to try again! It made me realize how much I missed doing marker stuff 😅 And gave me the idea to try highlighters on the back of my pages, since they won’t bleed through :>
June’s here too! 😮
Am I the only one who thinks Star sounded so much more excited and happy in this video than others?
Based on what she said in the the video, i can imagine why, her passion is back full force and it's showing.
I am a lazy person, whenever I make a mistake in my art (which is usually digital) I usually just go "Eh, I don't want to fix it" and so I don't. But I think it's given me some confidence I think. It gives me the vibe of when you're in bed just about to fall asleep then ur brain goes, "Psst!
Good luck Star!
I (a traditional artist) think that digital art is harder and confusing and I applaud anyone who can use digital art as successfully as they can. Whenever I try to use my iPad to draw it always look like if the one eyed alien from lilo and stitch had a baby with Mike wazowski.
"i bet she can't do traditional art harrharrharrharr"
meanwhile her traditional art looks EXACTLY like the digital stuff - i love it so much
just popping in to say those sketchbook pages are all GORGOUS
*gorgeous
This is so relieving to hear. I’ve been stuck in a similar mindset with my own art, and this makes me want to use my Copics again!
0:42. When she said this it reminded me everytime I accidentally drawn on a layer that I wasn’t supposed to draw on
OMG QIFREY??!!!! Also, glad to hear that you're able to have a healthier relationship with art!!
HAS ANYONE, ANYONE, NOTICED HOW ALOT OF DIGITAL ARTISTS HAVE BEEN SWITCHING AND TRYING TRADITIONAL LATELY!? OR IS THAT JUST ME!?
No, a few of the artist I follow have also been trying out digital for the first time in a while too. Not a lot of them but at least a few.
If you have them, and are willing to show them, it’d be pretty down to look at old Star sketchbook art!
Everyone starts on paper some stay and some transition to digital art if you’re good at one of them you’re good at both it’s not a big difference 😂
traditional art is great but, it's not a show for lack of talent. digital art is powerful and has the same meaning.
The way this gave me so much encouragement to get back into the hobby of drawing again. Thank you Star
im so used to using the mahogany marker at this point that i recognized it immediately as "my favourite dark brown that i used for clothes a lot" that i was surprised and had to laugh at myself a bit when i remembered that this was about how different the caps are. some of the colours are so off that my brain doesnt even remember the colours for the caps anymore, just immediately thinking of the actual marker colours. idk why but thats funny to me. i first got a few of the smaller sets in October last year and i really love using them! its nice seeing you try them out!
I have only ever drawn in a sketch book and am slowly getting better at anatomy and animals but still have no clue how to use markers. I am in awe
I think many artists can relate to this, even if its not their full time job. The grind mindset, where we always need to work toward completing a project or studying- because otherwise we lose precious ~time~
It's a hard rut to get out of, since the world is so fast paced and busy that it becomes the expectation of growing up, it's rare to slow down and just be okay with simply drawing
I hope you continue to find joy in what you do c:
5:01 BOOTHILL????
Also i want to say i was surprised how clean those drawings looked, like you had drawn them digitally and then pasted into your sketchbook 😅
When I saw him I just yelled “BOOTHILL!!!!” And I scared my cat cuddling me 😭
Those sketches look so pretty!
I hope your little journey into traditional art continues to do you good ❤
8:12 that is the best part of doing art doing it in pjs all day with out an care in the world
Traditional art can be refreshing once in a while if you’re used to online art most
Im a traditional artist and i swear to god when a digital artist tries paper art i cant help but cackle
28:35 Ah yes, rocking the Goblin King Jareth style. 😎
1:21 As someone who draws the same way on paper as on digital.... I feel you.
thanks for being a video that made me think to sit down to doodle a fun non-work art in my sketchbook today before getting to any of my comms or comic stuff
I love how happy you are in this video ❤
It's been a relief seeing that you're honest about how living the dream may take or change your initial spark.
I’m really happy to see this video, it’s making me cry with joy
As a traditional artist who doesn’t do much digital work, I appreciate this 😋❤️😋
Not you expressing everything I’ve been feeling about art for the past few months
The markers look really pleasant to use and I will definitely be checking them out once my next paycheck comes in!!
I adore ohuhu markers so much. Also varity is such baby and I love her.
I’m someone who started as a traditional artist and then I went to digital art as well.
Something I’d suggest drawing in your sketchbook is Emery with a ponytail, cause now that I’ve seen Emery with short hair I wanna see her with her normal hair length but tied up into a ponytail.
I LOVE your art style, it’s the perfect mix of cartoony and realistic, and the png you use in all your videos is THE CUTEST THING.
9:06 KITTY SPOTTED ‼️‼️‼️
KITTY!
Just wanted to say that I love the recommendation you made!, im a few pages in and I am absolutely loving it :D
It makes me wanna try to work harder to improve my art style
I really love your art style.
I just finished reading goth western because of the webcomic corner at the end, and it's SO GOOOOD!!! I JUST wish there was more of it😔😔😔
I recently got a bunch of Ohuhu markers cause they were on sale and I quite like them, now I just gotta get good enough to use them. Also you are one of the channels that inspired me to try and learn to draw so thank you Star!
So awesome love all of it...
This video moved me so much
It was so relatable, authentic, but also so hopeful too 😭😭😭
I love your work, Star! ;w;
I think this is something I needed to hear.
"Change the process, change the outcome."
-Mick Gordon
I've started drawing things for fun again in pencil, as that's my oldest and more comfortable medium and I've just decided I simply won't touch digital again unless it's strictly for fun, because I currently lack a drawing tablet and my weak wrist can't handle hours of painstakingly slow linework trying to get a simple drawing just right
On a different note, I'm sure we're all completely normal about some of your characters ^^'.
Thank you for this video
Also, love the webcomic recommendation section!
You and me both Star. First Sketchbook in 4th Grade, been drawing ever since.
Back in the early 2010s when I was in highschool (around my junior year or so…so 2011) my girlfriend at the time and I had art together and since it was getting close to the end of the year we could do whatever we wanted so she brought in her laptop to try out her knew tablet and my art teacher was so enthralled lol she knew of digital art cause that’s what her son did but she HAD to teach traditional (cause…public school) so her getting to see it that close was so exciting for her
Thank you for reminding me to finish Witch Hat Atelier
I feel so seen by your videos. Thank you for making them 💖
I've been learning to art for almost a year.
What program do you use to draw?
5:00 BOOTHILL JUMPSCARE
Digital art is just as difficult as traditional in my opinion. I’ve done mostly traditional art for a good while and recently (past couple years) got back into digital and all the stuff knew backing highschool just left me so I gotta relearn it all.
I heard the word sketchbook tour and i almost exploded with joy
id love if i could get a hold of that traumatized bayleaf
I love doing traditional and digital art but sometimes when I try drawing in digital it looks less full in a way and my art style looks so much more different.
ooo, i love the sketches! and the addition of recommended comics is also cool!
I may not have been watching you for very long, but your artwork is really cute and pretty, and I know I'll use some for inspiration!
i need to take my own sketchbook out more
love to see someone else calls them "cop-ic" instead of "cope-ic"
im sure im saying it wrong, considering how many people say the latter, but its cool to hear i aint alone ( ^-^)
love your videos, star! i dont think ive commented on this account, but ive been subbed for awhile on my other. always awesome to see you've uploaded! thanks for being cool, be sure to take care of yourself 🩵
All the art here looks amazing
its really nice to see a traditional art video in 2024!
P.S I think your traditional art actually looks nicer than your digital art ;)
I'm glad you're feeling better!
These turned out so cool! ❤❤
I've been doing traditional art since I was 10, and I can not for the LIFE of me do digital art
Idk what it is about it but it's so much harder for me to do, traditional art is just so much more fun and easier for me 😭 might just be me being used to pencils but I do want to get better at digital art
Here is a thing you could try (if it helps and/or ur comfortable with it) draw what sounds fun to draw as a work project, and put it on a community post or something, throw it in as something that appears on your comic or do it so you can have something new to look at as a background for your computer, as a motivational art piece to help you create stuff in the future, idk it’s just an idea you don’t HAVE to listen to me, I’m just some rando on the internet
Just have fun man 🤷♀️
i started art by drawing *scribbles* and calling them *rollercoasters* on paper. and i can confirm, digital art is still art. i find coloring easier on digital, but the lineart i find paper better. 👍
