I watched this 5 months ago and I could barely understand what she was saying. Now I can understand at least 90% of what she’s saying without looking at the translation😭 I’m so proud of myself :’)

So, what did you use to study to reach this level?
@@nicoleraheem1195 1. Watched a lot of kdramas in the beginning (just like everyone else I guess🙈)
2. Learned a bit of the grammar through talk to me in korean mostly. I think I went through up until level 5/6 of their lessons just for free online. Mostly just schemed through them, it was quite easy to understand I guess because I have mostly heard the grammar in kdramas.
3. I used talk to me in korean conversation/dialogues books. I listened to the same dialogues over and over and try to understand them, learn the grammar, vocabularies until I understand them🙊
4. Immersion. Up until now I still consume korean contents everyday single day, kdramas, varieties, realities I even read books sometimes (I'd recommend short stories in korean by olly richard). Now mostly with korean subtitles. I still learn some new words everyday. The learning never stops I guess hehe.
I think once you get to intermediate level, watching kdramas(if you like kdramas or anything else really) with korean subtitles, even if you don't undertsand everything, really helps. It just gets your brain to get used more to the intonation, sound, sentence structure etc. I just looked up words that came up really often, it's not important to understand everything, understanding the gist of it would be good enough.
Took me around a year in half to 2 years to be able to naturally form sentences. Now I even talk to myself in korean a lot lol.
I hope this somewhat helps in your korean learning journey. The key is to be consistent and patient. Honestly sometimes it'll feel like you're not improving but you just gotta keep going and trust the process👍🏻

Fatimah's Korean is very impressive. Her pace of speech is about the same as that of a native speaker. Her intonation and pronunciation are excellent overall, though they can be slightly "off" here and there (very minor). BTW, I'm a native speaker and this is my first time watching your channel. I wonder how long she's been practicing Korean.

I didnt even know you had a youtube channel until just now. the book is very funny to read at times thanks for getting me into the language. without your book i probably would've just tried to learn from duolingo for a week and eventually give up.

Dude this girl speaks better than me. It’s not just her pronounciation that’s impressive but the way she speaks it. Her tone, the way she almost speaks with shyness, humility, timidness, charming cuteness all balled up in one makes it sound korean. A lot of female kpop idols talk like her. So I’m assuming she also watches alot of kdramas and especially watch/listened to how female kpop idol act and talk.

She might've memorized this phrase through Google translation.
I memorize phrases but I try to memorize them from Hi Native, language learning books, or movies.

She sounds pretty close to a native speaker, but as you caught some grammar differences, I could tell too. I am Korean, I come from a Korean speaking family, so I know how it sounds. Thanks Fatima & Billy for the presentation...I am American grown & finished some foreign language studies, now so I am making a final goal of a refresher course in Korean-American School (Advanced Class). Please be patient w/me. I so enjoy the refreshers I’ve had so far.✝️

Hi, Billy. The korean letter ᅴ can be read like "ui", "e" and "i", as you can see that the same Korean letter can be read differently.

Hi Billy! Don’t know if you’ll read this, but I would really like if you made a video about spoken Korean, specially one thing I’ve been noticing more and more as I watch variety shows and dramas - is it common to speak the whole sentence and then add the subject as an after thought? Like they say the whole sentence and then add an 내가 at the end, I’m so confused by this sometimes.

@@GoBillyKorean I did watch this video before but you didn’t mention the subject coming at the very end of the sentence, that’s why I asked. I thought I was maybe imagining things but I was watching the new EXO arcade and there it was again, a 내가 at the end of the sentence. I suppose it’s the same situation as the adverb sometimes coming after the verb?
@@onecuriousowl Yes, that's what some people might do to emphasize the subject, if they didn't already do it in the sentence. It's only for spoken usage.

On these videos, it would be great to know how long they have been learning the language and to get a general sense of their process. How long does it take to achieve her level of speaking?

There are some "minimum" amounts for actually becoming conversational (don't believe someone who says they learned to be fluent in just a few months), but anything beyond that really depends on how the person is studying, how much they're practicing, where they live and what opportunities they have, etc. I've seen people reach her level in a year living in Korea with lots of Korean friends, and others never get there despite studying a decade.
@@GoBillyKorean That's why I was interested in knowing her process. What resources did she use, did she live in Korea, does she have Korean friends? etc.

No, the books only reach maybe the intermediate level at BEST (if someone is practicing everything in them too), and it can take many years to reach fluency.

I use many sources to learn korean including your videos and soon including your books as well ...but how will i get to a point where i can speak korean whitout stressing myself and without thinking to much? I've often heard Korean sentences ending with "si me da". What does it indicate and how/when does one use it at the end of the sentence?

To be a "native" speaker I would have had to be a "native," which is not possible since I didn't grow up in Korea or live there from a very young age. "Fluent" is good enough :-)

No, first there shouldn't be an object marker after 한국어 since there's no action verb affecting it in that sentence.

it’ll sound much more natural if you say ”그 남자가 좋아도, 우린 말 안해요” which means exact the same.

@@georgiavassilopoulou4377 그 남자 means that guy, who is the listener? Are you telling your friend or... I’m a little confused. Also 좋아하지만 is more natural in the sentence, and don’t use commas (Koreans don’t use it in their sentences) -> 내가 그를 좋아하지만 우리는 말하지 않아요.
