This was so fun to watch! And HOLY COW how can someone be this good after only 2 years I'm so impressed 😲
Whaaa I'm fangirling 🤯🤯 Thank you so muchㅠ I do feel like I have to clearify though; I did NOT do this in one take!
love your channel!
@@mariamoldrickx02 No seriously what the heck did you do??? I'm fluent, but I am sure you can provide some good advice for EVERYONE(tell me what you did lol I wanna steal some of your skills)! You are so amazing. You are good at copying the accent too!
@@mariamoldrickx02 진짜 잘하시네요!!! 저도 보면서 진짜 감동받았어요!!! 😍
I’ve been studying for two years and couldn’t even understand all she said! Frustrated here :(
"I'm a teacher, I care" that made me laugh so hard :) 😂
hahahhh truee
More teachers need to be like Billy 😩
I just wanna say to the people watching this who are learning Korean and have learned Korean for 2 or more years but aren’t as fluent as she is that it’s okay. Everyone is different with how fast they can learn and considering how long it takes you to figure out what learning method works best for you. I have been learning Korean for 3 years with a 2 month break in it. I’m not as fluent as she is. However that’s also because of my discipline to study and the break I took. You got this! Continue to study don’t lose hope!
I hope Maria will see the comments. Maria, you did an amazing job! Definitely something to aspire to.
Thanks Cheryl!💜
@@mariamoldrickx02 what do you do cause it works👀
@@saarajeilani4191 You could have a look at some comments I left concerning that over at my channel ^^
@@mariamoldrickx02 okay ;)
The thumbnail threw me off for a second when I was scrolling because I'm a Maria from Sweden too xD I hope to reach this level of speaking comfort within a few years though, I'm very impressed! :) Bra jobbat Maria :)
Tack Maria!!
when I heard her speak and I heard her say she only studied for two years...idk...I got jealous and sad I guess lol. Like I'm happy for her but im so disappointed in myself because I can't speak like her. when I hear of random people over the world who have studied for few years and are this good i feel so sad that I might never reach their level.
Please, please dont be. There are many things that influence learning korean and any language in general. Dont compare yourself to someone that you dont know what conditions they are in. Dont be unfair to yourself. Keep on trying and keep going.
@@emmaee6719 it might seem like I'm overreacting but after I read your comment I teared up a bit. lately I have been feeling kind of down about my korean because I dont feel like I'm improving, but your comment really helped me. I hope your day will be as good as you made me feel 🥰
@@simona7084 You got ths, and im proud of the fact that you have determination to keep going. When learning a language, it will get hard. When i learned french it took me 3 years to start speaking it, but that neever stopped. Thank for the kind words. 화이팅~!
Don't be disheartened! There's a HUGE difference between studying for a few hours a day for 2 years as opposed to studying for 15 minutes a day for two years. I'm not saying Maria has studied for hours each day, but many of us just don't have the time and our learning will naturally take longer. Focus on yourself and don't try to measure yourself against anyone else's progress. Everyone's different!
@@samcooke343 that is also very true, I cant expect to excell like she does if I don't put in more time into it
Maria's Korean is so fluent.
I’ve just started watching, but I can’t help myself but say that Maria from Sweden is soooooo good and just 2 years of studying?? 😱😱 I’m motivated and inspired at the same time 😍😍 also Billy, your commentary is so so helpful, even for me as a beginner learner 🙏🏼
Woww that means a lot!! Thank u and you got this!
@@mariamoldrickx02 you should do a video about what you actually did to learn Korean, I'm sure people would love this. Did you prioritise speaking? Anyway great work!
Hey Billy 😆 your french introduction was perfect 👍
Je te dis bonjour de la France 🇫🇷 👋
You're too kind. My French is, as they say in France, terrible :-P
Wow! Maria is really amazing for being able to speak Korean like that after only 2 years. I would love to watch another segment with Maria and hear her talk about how she studied Korean and maybe share some of her study tips that may help a lot of people like me who are struggling so much to learn Korean. Great video as always! Thank you!!!
Wow thanks Diane!!♡ I'd love to if I got the chance somehow>< Maybe I'll turn my account into an active channel some day :)
Maria, if you’re reading this, you’re Korean is really good for 2 years! Keep going ☺️. 화이팅!
This lesson was so interesting!! Thanks Billy! Also, can you give us some examples with the filler word 막 ? :)
korean is my receptive language lol it’s hard for me to form my own sentences but i can understand it
After ohne day still not a single dislike! Billy’s community is the best

Billy 선생님 seriously I don't know how you are gonna take this, but I feel like you know how to correct Korean better than many of my actual Korean friends(and some teachers). I guess it should be obvious considering you had to learn the intricacies of the language as a Korean learner yourself. Do you have any content related to improving accent? It's been 4 years and I am still correcting a lot of things with my accent like the strong consonants(ㅋ,ㅍ,ㅊ). How does one be expressive in Korean but maintain that almost neutral tone that's apparent in the Seoul dialect? I'm from Texas so I kinda had to work extra hard to kill my accent, but I think I overdid it. I love these analysis videos because you kind of point out these errors Korean learners (myself included) typically make. I think awareness is important.
I actually talk about intonation in the next episode of this series, which will be uploaded next weekend :)
@@GoBillyKorean I can't wait!
for the strong consonants, expel more air when you say them. they're also called "aspirated consonants". using the plain consonants as a reference, the extra line you see that makes a plain consonant become an aspirated one stands for an extra burst of air
@@unclemoriarty1436 I knew what they were called but I had no idea that that line had that meaning! Thanks for the information! :)
Oh my God!!! MARIA IS AWESOME. Please teach me your ways Maria, i havr been studying for 1 year but more seriously let's say 6 months and i am still at toddler level. 😭
i literally went back when they said 2 years to check i saw right loool , but this video was suuuper helpful for my own korean and im sure for other learners , excited for the others !!
The video ending was so cute!!!!!! ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
I’m really glad you talked about the politeness levels. My friends and I were really confused about when to use formal speech. One of my friends thought you would only use it if you were speaking to the president 🤣 Two of them thought you needed to you it every time you met someone or spoke to someone you didn’t know well. And I knew you should use formal speech with your boss, but otherwise I had no idea. So thank you!
You studied French?! Respect! My mother language is French. I’m actually from Belgium living in.. euh Japan lol.
I think she’s amazing to have this Korean level after 2 years. Ive been studying for 3 years now. I only have 1 hour class once a week.. I can barely say a few things lol..
If Maria is in the comments, what resources do you use? You are awesome at Korean!
Thanks @JDopeMyHearteu!
Primary resource for speaking is speaking practice! I don't think there's one right resource you should use as long as you actually practice speaking, but in my case I've been doing language exchange for about a year. :)
In terms of other skills, I'd recommend not looking for the "perfect resource", but to just find SOMETHING and spend a lot of time with it. When it comes to listening, that was a Korean/English podcast called "SpongeMind" in my case. On there they talk about language learning techniques I implement as well like "repetitive listening" and "shadowing".
This help me to understand the Korean culture, because you explained why to use the polite or formal way
Her pronunciation is really goodddd
I love this! Maria you are such an inspirations to me, only 2 years and you've come so far :O
I really like this kind of video, can't wait for the next videos!
And her "그럼 다음에 또 봐" at the end was iconic, I hope everyone ends their videos like this XD
I'm such a beginner but this was actually so cool to watch! Love this new series!
First of all, kudos to Maria, you did an amazing job! 👏 And thank you, Billy, for another great video. I do like how you are not just nitpicking on mistakes, but underlining and explaining all the dos and don'ts. Your videos are helping me a lot. 😊
Thank you!! I know right? Go Billy!🥳🥳

Wow Maria did so well! This is so helpful!
Maria의 노력에 큰 감명을 받고 갑니다.

Wow, first of all, I am so impressed! Maria you did such a good job omg, your Korean is so impressive! I have also been studying for exactly two years now, as of May 2023, but I have also lived and studied Korean in Korea for six months! Although I am not as good as her, at least at speaking. Im better at writing and reading. But I felt it when you pointed out the mixing of politeness levels! I mix politeness levels all the time 🥲 quite literally hahah have to work on that, definitely
Maria has me feeling stuff because I'm like wow 2 yrs only and she is speaking with such ease , I'm nearly 6 months in with very slow progress , recognizing words sometimes I can read and understand short sentences . But at same time feeling very hopeful as a goal to reach if that's where I'm at in 2 yrs . Obviously I need to up my studying intensity 화이팅
Billy! I have a strange request since you mentioned it in this video. Can you do a video on ALL the politeness levels with examples/usage? You always break things down perfectly. I would be forever grateful 🙏
I've done a live class about that topic before here: ruclips.net/video/4P8u7XXyLJw/видео.html

at least big companies now know your name if they seek for a translator >-< no hate i love you and your videos Billy :)
it would have been great if we got to see her studying habits.. might give insight to some of us who are slow and struggling
From having spoken to many fluent speakers, the studying habits are always something like "studied a lot and practiced speaking a lot more." Then the details will differ depending on the person, such as how they did listening practice (dramas, or podcasts, or just listening to conversations), the books they used (textbooks, or online lessons), et cetera. You can learn Korean a thousand different ways, as long as you're actually practicing it along the way. Everyone fluent I've spoken to has also mentioned how they started *using* the language right away, whether they were aware of it much or not. Things like thinking to yourself (making sentences in your head) count too :)
@@GoBillyKorean thanks!
@@바보Queen if you look in the comments, you'll see that Maria replied to some ppl. you can go to her channel and ask her there
*Me sitting here crying in beginner* 😂😩
In terms of politeness level in Korean language i can quiet understand how important it is to include it when your speaking to someone that is stranger, older than you, mentor etc. Im a Filipino, and in our language we use "po" and "opo" just as the same way Koreans do.
It's impressive how she became able to speak Korean fluently in just two years. I realised how difficult Korean is when I entered high school. I started to learn Korean grammar and it's so hard even as a native speaker.
Especially her intonation sounded just like a native Korean although her pronunciation needs to be improved a little more.
Just keep up the good work. I'm sure you'll soon become an expert in Korean.
Thank you 시장님 I'll keep going! But contrary to (apparent) popular belief I'm not fluent yet hahah I did multiple takes!
@@mariamoldrickx02 oh my gosh hi Maria! I didn't expect to find you yet lol. I just wanted to say your korean is amazing-which you probably already know ahaha. I've been learning for over 3 years now and I'm not the slightest bit conversational even though I can understand pretty well.. do you have any tips for learning/practicing speech or anything to share overall? It would be super helpful, thank you!!

I think you're quite fluent for studying only for two years. There are so many Koreans who can barely make a complete sentence in English despite having learnt it for decades.
@@user-te6iw5wh1j @간누리 Wow thank u!!! And of course, in terms of speaking getting a language exchange partner made the biggest change for me! When I started doing that not even a year ago I was a beginner!
I know it can be hard to find a good, serious exchange partner, so if you're interested I could share how I came across mine!
@@user-nc5yc9es6j I guess compulsory classroom based learning is very different from self-initiated learning
OH so thats why my much older Korean friend and i use banmal, because we are friends in a german context, we germans dont feel comfortable using polite forms on friends, and it feels wrong to be so polite to her, although i respect her very much, because we both interact on the level of german culture, although we speak in korean.
Billie, thank you very much for all your videos and lessons!
These videos are amazing for self-education!
Hey Billy. I have been learning Korean for 6 yrs and I was not consistent at it as I was so interested in k dramas. Hi Billy is it still possible for me to send in my video on Twitter so that you can grade my Korean?
Yes, the video with info about the rules is in the video description.
It might be just me but whenever I listen to girls speaking a foreign language I think they always sound better than me. I studied a lot of Japanese which has similar politeness levels. I will never get over how they taught us formal Japanese (not super formal but still formal) before teaching us regular Japanese. So I'm liable to speak formally to my friends. Sucks.
i wish i was that fluent... i'm thinking way too long when i try to speak
i'm 4 years in wtf. i'm a failure
@@emu2329
It's quite understandable.
Korean grammar is damn hard. But the words are easier to memorise as they tend to be more tied to each orher and intuitive.
For example
finger 손가락
palm 손바닥
wrist 손목
As you can see, all of them include the word 손 which means hand while English words have nothing in common. Furthermore 가락 means stick and 바닥 means bottom and 목 means neck. I just recommend to memorise the words first if you're struggling with grammar. You can at least get by if you know the words. Move on to the grammar later.
