As an American who used a dryer all my life I’ve recently been learning how much you can preserve clothes by hanging them to dry instead of using a machine. My bras are saved and so will a lot of other clothing I imagine. What a thing to learn at 25 but better late than never!
Great video and advice! I worked in corporate offices for decades. I would add these two small items to your emergency list. A small sewing kit and a few pocket packs of tissues for those colleagues or visitors who are not prepared. I was even known for handing out emory boards from time to time. Each office situation varies of course. Yes, I too believe in being prepared! 😀
Philip Kingsley Elasticiser weekly, Tweezerman tweezers, Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair on my hands as it’s anti ageing and moisturising, extra virgin olive oil on my nails as it calcifies them and strengthens them, retinol serum on the soles and heels of the feet works wonders. Wolford tights last ages, a good proper fitting bra, a good quality hair brush, Jo Malone Vitamin E lip balm is amazing.
I am European by birth but live in Canada. Most people here are not using even the most basic garment care for their clothes! Sort laundry by colour and texture, iron or steam blouses, making sure buttons and zippers are in good condition. It doesn't take much to look good.
I was born in Europe also and live in Canada. My mother, from a very young age taught us to iron, steam and do laundry the proper way. Also, no loose buttons or ill fitting clothes. It wasn’t about expensive items but rather always looking put together and looking like we cared for ourselves.
I never dry any of my clothes except pajamas. Everything else, including undergarments, is dried on racks or hangers then sent out to be ironed. Washing them at home gives one control over the pretreatment of stains, water temperature, cycle length and type of detergent, and of course they are all my own. The commercial laundry washes everyone’s clothing together, which could be problematic if people leave things in their pockets that are not removed before washing. The laundry has professional ironing forms and a mangle for some slacks, which achieves a better crease than a hand held iron. I use disinfectant wipes on the insoles of my shoes as well as a neutral leather conditioner wipe on the outside surfaces of smooth shoes and a small suede brush for those shoes. It only takes a few seconds to perform these tasks before putting the shoes away and at the next wearing they are good as new.
I am only a minute in, but YES, steam before wearing! I have a portable steamer that I keep under my bathroom sink. I just hang my garment on the shower door, plug in my steamer and give it a quick steam. It is super fast. If I kept my steamer in the laundry room, I would probably not steam as often, but since it is quicky accessible, it takes little time to accomplish. It makes so much more sense than steaming or ironing and then hanging in the closet, where it well get squished between a sea of other clothes 😊
I always wear a base layer too! It really does make your clothes last longer. Uniquo do a good t-shirt one in their Airism range. Lightweight and smoothing! Never use a dryer!
After having an entire cup of coffee spill on my top at work, I kept a white tee rolled up in my desk which, in a pinch, would go with any color pants or skirt. I had a box marked “wardrobe disfunction” that had all the things you mentioned and everyone in the office was welcomed to and did use.
Have you ever tried toe footies for your shoe situation? I use them and they absorb and keep your shoes fresh. Safety pins are also a good emergency tool and back in my days when pantyhose was mandatory in professional offices, clear nail polish in the desk was a must.
I also dry most of my clothes on my clothes rack without a dryer. I live in a small apartment in the states - clothes are not as well made as they were years ago and need to be preserved in every way possible. I carry Tide pens in my purse. My supervisor is such a klutz that I bought him a 3 pack of Tide pens as a stocking stuffer last Christmas 😂
Yes air drying usa here. Ive gotten comments from friends when they see rack but my cheap clothes would never last otherwise. I only use dryer for sheets, towels, pjs or stuff i dont care about
Thank you for the video Mariana, very useful tips - I especially like the idea of wiping out the inside of your shoes! I also like keeping a pair of nail clippers in my purse because I hate breaking a nail and having it stay uneven all day - I find it helpful for hang nails, broken or uneven nail and if I need to cut a thread hanging somewhere it can do the job!
Really great tips! I will say that, as someone who lives in Texas, wearing a layer under my shirts would be impossible for 80% of the year. It’s just too hot and humid!
I'm intrigued by your shoe idea! I'm going to try that. 😅 I rarely use my dryer either! I love to hang clothes on a line in my backyard whenever possible, especially my white clothes. The sun keeps them bright.
Separate clothes into colours and fibres for washing, air dry where possible, kit at work - deodorant, hairspray, hairbrush, hair clips, aspirin, jacket, umbrella, water bottle, coffee travel mug, and similar in the car and small things in handbag. Used to travelling for work. 😂
Very good tips!! Additional tip for your hair if pins are a bit uncomfortable: I make a ‘pineapple’ on top of my head with a Silk scrunchie and sleep on a silk pillowcase.
Thanks for the interesting video. Im thinking about such a steamer because until yet I just use my iron. Especially for cotton blouses I use iron aid spray. This helps to keep it more crease resitant while wearing. While ironing or pleating I keep a little scissor available to remove immediately loose threads or the washing instructions inside. For washing in the machine I turn for example jeans on the left and put sensitive garments in a washing pouch. This keeps the clothes and colours longer properly and just costs a few seconds of time. And of course separate your laundry und use the appropriate washing powder or liqiud and programm of the machine. Kind regards from Central Europe❤
A Tide Pen has saved me many times! One person jokingly teased me about it, until I used it to get a toddler’s chocolate fingerprints off their clothing!😅
Great tips but wet wipes are very damaging to the environment, just wipe the inner sole of your shoes with some kitchen roll or toilet paper sprayed with diluted washing-up liquid. Diluted washing-up liquid is a mild cleaner that can be used for everything from mirrors to floors, it's kind to animals' sensitive noses and it's cheap. We don't need anything stronger around the house unless there's a bacterial or other infection/illness.
True!! I usually do this for surface cleaning, with a spray bottle filled with water, a few drops of washing-up liquid and some lavender essential oil for a nice smell. Will try it on shoes as well!
Hi Sharona! I like to have a selection with different necklines and sleeve lengths, either close to my skin shade or in neutrals like grey, white and black. In terms of fabric, it’s important that it’s breathable and natural (I go for light cotton or viscose jersey in the beginning of fall and a cotton/merino wool blend for colder winter months). A few brands that I like for this are Intimissimi, Uniqlo, Falke and Ragno. Hope this helps 😉
👋 who is the gal on Instagram you mention? Love the idea of wiping shoes after wearing, with sneakers and loafers especially the bottom of shoes which get dirty👍
I’ve got an extra pair of cheater glasses in my office desk drawer. I’m still in denial at 59 that I need glasses to read. Often a colleague will forget theirs and my red striped pair of cheaters saves the day. They get to make a fashion statement all day. 😘

Agree...I have been air drying more clothes in the last few years and it makes a difference.

I have shared laundry so it’s not easy to always do several loads of laundry like color etc😢
@@meg7578 That's tough. But one day you will have a beautiful laundry room complete with drying racks!

Clotheslines are the norm in Australia. There are lots of items I would never put in the clothes dryer.

I’m so grateful for your channel
An extra pair of tights or stockings for the emergency kit is useful especially when you wear skirts or dresses 😉

Love this hair length on you! Thank you for this video! ❤
Thank you! It's called "too lazy to book a hair appointment" 😂

I have tried them, but they just won’t stay put on my feet 🙃
I always clean my shoes after wearing and apply comforters inside to keep their shape. My steamer is my best friend, I always steam before wearing.

Employee of the year 😂
totally feel u about the air drying for clothes in the US!
Yes air drying usa here. Ive gotten comments from friends when they see rack but my cheap clothes would never last otherwise. I only use dryer for sheets, towels, pjs or stuff i dont care about
Great video! All good tips. You look absolutely glowing! Hope you are feeling well’ ☺️
I agree with the glowing - first thing I noticed.

Great addition to the emergency kit!
Uniqlo does some really good and very thin heattech thermals to wear under knitwear, blouses, etc.
Especially for when winter hits! Love them!
What is Uniqlo?
I love these extra tips❤

Terrific ideas! I live in the U.S. but I don’t use a dryer for my clothes. They keep their shape and color nicely by line drying!
Same in Australia.
Thanks Mariana! wiping the soles of the shoes! must do! Cheers

Another helpful simple video from lovely Mariana. ❤

Thank you. Great video, Wich you a god day , from Norway :-) a big smile
Thank you! You too!
I usually don’t clean my shoes 👞 but I think 🤔 it’s a great idea. I regularly wash my sneakers 👟 though. ❤
Luckily !! Shoes are in close contact with dirt, you know....
YESS! SAY THAT!!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Omg this was helpful 😂. Why didn’t I know this. Would have saved me so much time. 😂

I just saw fires are happening in Portugal. I hope and pray that your parents are safe.
So kind of you to think of my parents! They’re safe, but the fire situation is always so sad and hard to manage.
A Tide Pen has saved me many times! One person jokingly teased me about it, until I used it to get a toddler’s chocolate fingerprints off their clothing!😅
Where did you get this t-shirt? Looks very nice
It's actually a dress from Mango! And it's on sale, if you want to take a look: rstyle.me/+8ro9QVt4tgDnweE7CkzChQ
I am American so I leave all that in my car because I am usually where my car is.
I used to do the same when I had a car. Always helpful!
American here, i dont use the dryer on my clothes. Good tips.
I also have an extra pair of tights, just in case.
Really good idea!
👏👏👏
Brava ! ! !

This is a good tip! Question: for the inner soles, do you wipe the washing-up liquid off with a damp paper or cloth after, or do you just leave it?
True!! I usually do this for surface cleaning, with a spray bottle filled with water, a few drops of washing-up liquid and some lavender essential oil for a nice smell. Will try it on shoes as well!
I have deodorant in my emergency kit. Maybe even a pair of undies? (You never know ..) 🙊 And of course a nail file.
A lady who’s always prepared: my kind of gal 😉
I'm curious about the base layer-- what kind of material, neckline/shape, color, short/long sleeve, how body hugging?
I’m curious also.

They are called camisoles or cammys. Buy your bra size or your shirt size.
What do you recommend for a steamer
Can put silk hair tie wrap to make bun
👋 who is the gal on Instagram you mention? Love the idea of wiping shoes after wearing, with sneakers and loafers especially the bottom of shoes which get dirty👍
She’s an Italian content creator called @laposhhhhhh (one of my favorites 😊)
so basically you are mary poppins at work :D you look so good, the whole look is so coherent - and don't ever get rid of that shirt!
Will change my email signature to Mary Poppins to see if anyone notices 😂
What steam machine do you have?
A mini Victorinox penknife, the scissors are incredible.
Uuuuh will add that to the kit! Great idea!
I’ve got an extra pair of cheater glasses in my office desk drawer. I’m still in denial at 59 that I need glasses to read. Often a colleague will forget theirs and my red striped pair of cheaters saves the day. They get to make a fashion statement all day. 😘
If your clothes aren't dry after using the dryer then the dryer is broken.
My husband creates a mountain of laundry every other day. I would die without a dryer😂. I air dry many of my items though.
Oh, for his clothes it’s totally fine 😂😂😂
Spraying clothes with high proof Vodka will also help prevent washing!
News to me! Exactly how do you do this? Fine mist sprayer? All over? How much?
This sounds weird yet effective! Tell us more!!!
Never ever rewear clothes! Never!!!!!!!!
wash them by hand instead of washing machine
I am going to hire a ladies maid -
I have owned multiple steamers, but have never been impressed by what they do. I don’t get it.
