I remember this play like it was yesterday. I was at that game, and I was actually sitting near midfield high up in the stands with my family during the scrum for the ball. And while it was going on, I remember just having my eyes closed and my hands clasped in front of my face in a prayer position. And all I kept saying was: "Saint's ball, Saint's ball" because I was so nervous at what would happen if we didn't have it. And when I heard the fans in our section start cheering and I opened my eyes to see the ref signal that we had it, I just lost it because I was so relieved. The best part of it was that after the play, my uncle who's a Colt's fan just kept saying: "That won't count. That's not going to count.". I finally looked over and said to him: "Uncle Pop, I hate to tell you this, but the Saint's are lining up to run a play on offense. So I think it counts.".
I think you adding some gay corny cheesy shit to your boring story ." I remember just having my eyes closed and my hands clasped in front of my face in a prayer position. And all I kept saying was: "Saint's ball, Saint's ball" because I was so nervous at what would happen if we didn't have it." COME ON SON. you could of said " i was nervous"
Steven washington They need help on there receivers and need BIG help on defense and then I think they'll be able to win another won so I'd say by 2023
Wow! I consider myself a huge Saints fan and have watched countless stories and read countless articles about them. However, I had never heard JR Bishop's story. Thank you for posting this ! ⚜
Kurt Warner said in it interview that he never saw anything in that game as illegal. By the way, several bounty programs have been found in the NFL, but the league had to make an example of someone, which happened to be the Saints. And I honestly don't think they cheated in that game, because they didn't have to. I don't want to offend you, but the Cardinals got BLOWN OUT. Just like they did week 3 of this season by the Saints, 31-7. Sorry.
+Brad Bender I thought it was *possible* only because the Colts had no problem moving the ball between the 20s in the first half. I figured whats the big difference in that situation to giving them the ball at the ~30 vs at midfield?
GIT'CHA W-H-O-O-D GIT'CHA W-H-O-O-D GIT'CHA WHO DAT ON! This play almost gave me a heart attack. What a hell of way to start the Second Half. That took guts and was a complete team effort. Repeatedly. Old Fans almost had had a nervous breakdown.😃😆😇😎😍😘😂😎
The fun part is the fact that everyone but the fans, the commentaitors, and the Colts knew it was gong to happen. Former players, Analysists, everybody knew, except those who were not close to the teams.
Actually the NFL took the ball and sold it to the highest bidder. All about money all the time. Anyway that win was beyond gold to the people of New Orleans. Thank you Saints! Of course you know what it meant because you were all part of it. Whole hearted love to everyone involved!
its not about the onside kick ,it was about gambling and makin a gutsy and dangerous call,, in the biggest game in the world, never been done in the history of superbowls ,thats why the ball was placed in the hall of fame
i've been a Favre fan since he was 17, and ran out onto the field for Southern Miss. he said that the hits were hard and frequent, but that it was within the frame of the game. the only one that looked like they were trying to put him out remotely 'dirty' was the shot to his leg. honestly...the Vikings out performed the Saints. two AP fumbles in the Red Zone cost them at least 6 points. favre had well over 300 yards passing...they played hard...but the Saints made enough plays to win.
I swear I called this albeit jokingly. I was sitting around, drinking beer with a bunch of people in my dorm and I jokingly said, "I bet Payton onsides this" and a guy said he would bet me 500 dollars he wouldn't, which I relented and said I was only joking. This is one of my few regrets in life....
You're wrong, I'm afraid. This onside kick set the stage for the entire second half. The Saints knew they had to get on top early and stay on top, and this onside kick did just that.
Wow. One play changes the entire game. Probably changed the outcome of the game as well. I think the Colts probably would have won if they had recovered that onside kick.
Yeah, I know. I figured mentioning that Favre said it too would be overkill. A Broncos player said that they can investigate every team and find the exact same thing.
well you have to add how much the media was favoring the colts. Getting ready to cement Peyton Manning as one of the all time greats with his 2nd Super Bowl win.
There will always be an asterick next to the Saints name from SB 44. It will say * Saints 31 Colts 17 * Denotes Home Team. WHOOOOOOOOOOODATTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please stop being so negative, we won, let us have our victory and our videos and when anyone else wins we will let ya'll have ya'lls. Don't be hateful, there's already too much hatred in the world.
As a Saints fan,I was too nervous to fully look until we actually snapped the ball on offense. I was just sure the Colts would challenge & get it over turned. From there I knew we had them.
I remember watching this game in it's entirety, and I also CLEARLY remember seeing Jonathan Casillas being the one to recover the ball. I'm pretty sure he is the one credited with the official recovery. This video kinda downplays his contribution...
So, even though, the opposing players and "bounty targets" themselves have gone on record saying that they never saw the Saints do anything wrong... you're still gonna stick by that... okay...
Well, rumor has it that the NFL knew about the bounty before last years season, but didn't do nothing until this year to stop the Saints from going to the SuperBowl at our own place.
I understand there was a bunch of uncalled penalties in the NFC championship game with the Vikings. Also, you can still hurt somebody without making an illegal hit. (It doesn't have to occur late to hurt somebody.)
I know it wasn't played in New orleans, the * was a jab at those opposing fans who say the Saints super bowl win was tainted due to them running a bounty program. Football is a violent sport and trying to knock the opposing out has been part of the league since the 1950's and probably sooner.
"That Bounty Stuff" was happening throughout the NFL... the Saints were just the first team to get caught, so Goodell wanted to make an example out of them... As far as "never should have made it to that game"... prove it... Show me evidence that the Saints relied on injuries and dirty hits to make it so far that season...
Bayougirl78 very true & it's been discovered that the Vikings may have had a bounty system... A ex Vik wrote a book & he admits they had that & that proves more of Goodell & his lack of leadership
See, now why not try an onsides kickoff on the first play on the game? Nobody on the other side would be expecting it, and you'd have 2 whole quarters to prepare for the one that they would try at the beginning of the 3rd quarter.
Our team did it.....I try not to let people bother me when they say stuff to be plain "Internet bullies" because its what most want....attention....#Geaux Saints.....SB XLIV Champs
Sometime I question if sports are rigged. Look at that pats panthers game this last week. Ref threw the flag but then looked at the fans and picked it back up and ran out of the stadium. And in this video look at the ref saying blue ball when the saints player had the ball as he was saying that. How about that jets push call too. I hope their is no rigging going on by the refs
"The greatest heist in Super Bowl history" - a single kick of the kind that is done in rugby, often; a simple ploy whose effectiveness depends on the obvious being done the other 99.9% of the time; a sequence in which all that is happened is that someone fell on a ball right in front of him... On balance, it doesn't say much for the sport that it's "the greatest heist" and "the greatest onside kick ever," does it?
Wtf are you talking about. Go watch rugby videos and stfu. You don't even know the situation and balls it took to pull this off. Heist my middle finger brah.
At least the Bears get close pretty often... A playoff run only comes for the Cardinals every 20 years. It just gets hard have to take losses, especially to a team that sort of cheated.
Gosh I'll never forget watching that live. My jaw dropped when the onside kick came out of nowhere.
as a diehard Colts fan..gotta say that was a pretty dam cool video..
gdub454 u got class bro...
RIP Steve Sabol. The NFL wouldn't be the same without him and his father

BORING , SHUT THE FUCK UP
Dude, if you don't like my story, there's no need to be rude, just keep your damn mouth shut and don't say anything at all!!!!!!

***** hi
Saints was meant to win this game, especially after what happened in New Orleans.
"The miracle in Miami has happen." I love it every time I hear it!
born and raised in New Orleans I'm a die hard saint fan the Saints will win the Super Bowl in the next two years!!!
True
Steven washington They need help on there receivers and need BIG help on defense and then I think they'll be able to win another won so I'd say by 2023
Wow I've been an English Saints fan since 2000 and I never knew this story. (not enough NFL exposure over here). Amazing story..

The bounty thing was stupid. Teams have been doing it forever and they chose to pick on the Saints.
Yep remember bounty bowl???
what "bounty thing"?
@@KemestA7X they had a bounty system where they put money on the heads of opposing players. You take out x you get paid extra.
They shoulda shown the evidence
i was at the game it was so awesome i am a saints geek fan
5:45, I want to hear some stories of this from the point of view of the Colts players and coaches.
Still waiting for a team to do an onside kick to start off the Super Bowl.
howard baxter why would anyone ever do that
@@juicejames4921 why not
Saints do it in LIV 😂 10 years after the the super bowl victory and in the same stadium.
Sad to say that JR Bishop past away this morning June 21, 2022 after battling Alzheimer’s. Our family is going to greatly miss him. Love you Uncle JR
Rest In Peace 🕊
I love how they make this like a shooter in the grassy knoll kind of breakdown lol.
Geaux SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've never seen one play be explained in a 14 minutes video.
One of the best plays ever. Genius
That was the greatest inside kick ever
I still got goose bumps to as what happened there. Espiecially that kickoff and the final 8 minutes of that game.
1:25 BLUE STEEL!!!
I loved that play! NO ONE EXPECTED IT!!!
"Get ready to party with the Lombardi New Orleans, your Saints are Superbowl champions"
Never forget that call
The greatest moment in the history of the species.
Thanks for posting this...what a great piece.
WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN!!! though am not a saints fan. i love and respect this team for what they have done. Much love and respect from the steelers.
#WHODAT Baby, I freaking lost it when that happened. They made the boot proud
I will never forget this play... What fan in this world truly thought that was even a possibility? I
+Brad Bender I thought it was *possible* only because the Colts had no problem moving the ball between the 20s in the first half. I figured whats the big difference in that situation to giving them the ball at the ~30 vs at midfield?
Sean Payton truly took my Saints to the promise land & W Drew we needed it & Katrina was gone from us then because we finally did it
yeah
Juke Ninja New Orleans has been on a rise of rebirth & the saints helped if not for "ambush" who knows if we beat the Colts

Big ball decision that payed off. Go Saints!!!!!
The Eagles onside kick was also amazing..the one during the Miracle at the NEW Meadowlands :)
Actually the NFL took the ball and sold it to the highest bidder. All about money all the time. Anyway that win was beyond gold to the people of New Orleans. Thank you Saints! Of course you know what it meant because you were all part of it. Whole hearted love to everyone involved!
Saints we need this again

i was so nervous during this game, when i saw the 2nd half kickoff was an onside kick i was about to lose it lol
Our SAINTS are the best
You're wrong, I'm afraid. This onside kick set the stage for the entire second half. The Saints knew they had to get on top early and stay on top, and this onside kick did just that.

Wow. One play changes the entire game. Probably changed the outcome of the game as well. I think the Colts probably would have won if they had recovered that onside kick.
I'm amazed that there was a camera angle that showed everything.

Thats because the play was so good
Pretty sure my heart dropped outta my ass when i saw that kick go sideways. I thought Morstead fucked up. I thought we were screwed lmao
give the kicker some credit that was a perfect kick
