Tracy Porter intercepted Brett Favre in the 4th quarter in the NFC Championship and then intercepted Peyton Manning in the 4th quarter in the Super Bowl. ICONIC!
Been a Saints fan all my life. When porter took off with that pick six, we all lost it and ran outside to cheer with our neighbors. To make it better, it was on my birthday.
I remember people in Baton-Rouge-LA (an hour away from NOLA for those who don't know) people were dancing on the side of the streets of their homes and cars blowing their horns all night
This play is the reason I love football, the entire season the saints were so good (but deep in your mind, you think "the same old saints are gonna throw the game away.") and when he picked it off and did that point to the endzone... The feels.
I was at my sister's house for this game. 3rd story apartment. Her husband (whose a Peyton Manning fan) went down stairs to the car and said he could hear us cheering lol. I remember this INT. Your team whose struggled for so many years finally are champions! To beat Peyton Manning no less and to do it with an onside kick, and 2 point conversion, Brees carving up the colts in the second half. Then this INT. Man. I hope the Saints get this feeling at least once more before Brees retires. He deserves another super bowl.
Being a die hard Saints fan this is a moment I will never forget I can still remeber after Tracy Porter picked the ball off n returned it for a touchdown I was running all over my house and screaming till I lost my voice.
Brennan DaBoss Malcolm butler hands down. Saints still had a chance to stop Peyton. But for sentimental reasons I can see why it means so much for the city and state.
The Butler INT and the James Harrison pick 6 were both more difficult and more important. What killed the Colts that game was the onside kick and their lack of ability to stop the Saints offense.
As a Saints fan who was at the first game, when John Gilliam ran back the opening kick off for a Touchdown in Tulane Stadium thinking the franchise future was so bright, this moment always brings tears to my eyes. I think of my Dad, Buddy D. and Wayne Mack who did not live to see it and hear Jim Henderson call it.
I cannot believe this moment was 13 years ago already. The city of New Orleans was tore apart and just a few years later was brought back to life and together again. New Orleans will always be special to me, but the Saints are my favorite thing in the world. I will never forget watching Tracy take this ball to the house and secure the trophy for the Saints. That night was amazing, everyone was happy and no one cared about anything else but that night, I feel so old now lol. I cried happy tears that night for one of the first times in my life, people will never understand the passion we have for the Saints here in Louisiana. It’s more than football.

But then when it stayed tight into the 4th quarter, he tightened up and choked it away. That's Peyton for you. Best regular season QB ever by a mile. However if you're in a tight spot. This was one of the worst plays of Manning's career. He never should have thrown that ball. Reggie Wayne: “Let me tell you something about that. We ran that play about four times that game. He (Porter) was waiting on it. He was waiting on it. He sat on it. He sat on it and he waited. He broke before I did. I didn’t help, I slipped a little bit. But he got there before I did. If I would have run the perfect route, I think he still would have got there before me.” Tracy Porter: “We went to man-to-man coverage, and the formation that the Colts came out in is one that we had been studying the majority of the week. With the inverted split end, [Austin] Collie, we knew was going to motion down and they were going to run a stick route. The point guy, Reggie Wayne, was in the slot, and he was going to try to wide the part and out-leverage the corner and cut back across his face. Once I saw Collie motion in, I was like, ‘OK, here comes the stick route,’ and once I saw him try to wide the part, I just stepped inside and when he went to make the break to come back in I was already in front of him and I picked the ball off.” Manning, the great defense-dissector and "coach on the field", never saw Porter and LOST the Super Bowl with ONE ERRANT THROW. But somehow, the guy who actually threw the pass - and who ran the offense with the ability to make whatever adjustments he thought he needed to make at the line of scrimmage - is never blamed for calling the play (or allowing the play to remain the call) and making the throw. This is why people are known as "Manning apologists".
To be fair, there was a heavy blitz coming his way; including at least one free rusher. He had to get rid of it in a hurry. Throwing it to Wayne wasn't a bad idea. Porter had shut him down for the first three quarters, but Wayne was making plays in the fourth. So there wasn't much wrong with the play call; besides the fact they ran it before that game. Porter knew it was coming and jumped the route when Manning couldn't go thru his reads, from there it was just pure speed to the endzone and a victory for the team I grew up cheering for.
How this is only 3 will never make sense to me. This is the best and most important INT in history, you could argue we had the game won but not when Peyton Manning is on the field.
That dude @ 1:47 was right. Those 2 super-bowl wins were not because of Manning. Dominic Rhodes was doing most of the damage in the running game in Sb 41 vs the Bears and still don’t know how a TF Peyton Manning got that Super Bowl mvp. And of coarse, that Broncos defense saved his @ss vs the panthers in super bowl 50.
Brad Quinn record for first round playoff losses, slightly above a .500 win percentage in the playoffs his 2006 super bowl run featured 3 TDS 7 INT.... u hold the L
The big thing I told everyone going into this game was that the colts offense who never turns the ball over was going against the defense that had the most turnovers in the league that year, and that this game would be decided by a saints takeaway just like the NFC championship game...and I spent the whole night yelling I called it
DVJFan Peyton is 3-1 against Brady in AFC championships. So, no, Peyton owns Brady when it matters most. Peyton just lost to everyone else, and Brady beats everyone else.
no it isn't. You mean the most legendary play in NEW ORLEANS history. I think the Brandon Graham strip sack is the greatest play in Eagles history (im an eagles fan). But I don't think its the most legendary play of all time. I love this play, but still.
Been a saints fan all my life, from New Orleans... stumpled upon this video... but I saw something I wish I hadn't.... at 3:34 Will Smith does a block in the back to Payton Manning during the pick 6... just food for thought that this game could have went the other way if that was seen and called. Mind blown....
You know what the funny part is? During the Saints/Vikings NFC Champ. game of this most recent season, there is a hardcore block in the back on Cam Jordan on the last play that the BLIND refs didn't notice. If they had we would've went to the SB.
Manning didn't really do anything wrong on this one. It's just that Porter knew what was coming and jumped the pattern, just like Malcolm Butler did against Seattle. The real problem is that in both cases, the play shouldn't have been called in the first place. Porter had already been beaten on that exact pattern several times before, so he jumped it knowing he had nothing to lose.
Tracy Porter was the real MVP of SB-44. There were & are many great players wearing DA SAINTS Black and Gold ⚜⚜⚜ THREE OF THE BEST: 1. JOHN GILLIAM - 1ST TD 2. DREW BREES - BEST QB 3. TRACY PORTER - SB-MVP SAYS DA UWD & DATS DAT!
As a Colts fan, having the chance to finally win a rewatchable and non-shitshow super bowl was so exciting to me and then to watch that pick burn everything that I was hoping for. A great play but it makes me feel sick watching it man.
Jonathan Blaze 2-2 in the Super Bowl 4-1 in Afc titles (3-1 against Brady), he's top three in playoff td's yards, and wins, and all with two teams and a different head coach each time, choke on his rings.
Tracy Porter is the only reason the Saints were even in the Super Bowl. Favre and the Vikings were in FG range and everyone in the Dome knew it, then Tracy clutched up and picked off Favre.
One thing these talking heads keep saying is PM was trying to take his team down the field to "win the game". Not accurate. Saints were up by 7 at that point. He was trying to tie it up. And if he had tied it up Drew Brees and the Saints would've had the final possession to win it. But Porter's Pick 6 put the Saints up by 14. So that Int. wrapped it all up.
Yeah, the Saints likely would've won this game anyway. They had scored on every possession in the second half, for 18 points. The onside kick was a real killer. People would've recycled the same narratives anyway, but Manning did make it easy for them even though this was the first time he'd ever thrown an INT in a playoff comeback situation.

And of coarse, that Broncos defense saved his @ss vs the panthers in super bowl 50.
Peyton choking what else 😂😂😂
sam fisher 5 mvps, 2 super bowl wins with 1 mvp, and he holds the record for the most passing tds of all time. Hold this L
Brad Quinn record for first round playoff losses, slightly above a .500 win percentage in the playoffs his 2006 super bowl run featured 3 TDS 7 INT.... u hold the L
I remember this moment so fondly. I was 10 and it was probably one of my earliest favorite sports memories. Go saints ⚜️
It’s time for another one
I remember this play. Austin collie was wide open after the motion. Throw to him on the slant and there's the easy conversion and possibly the win
Peyton manning superbowl starts
4 games
4 tds 5 ints.
1 td in the second half (when he was losing 36-0)
That’s my cuz. We talked about that play 1 year ago sitting in a coffee shop in Amsterdam.
Haha nice. I love Amsterdam
All I can say is chills
The way Tracy just caught it so easily 😂😂😂 just wow!!!
The big thing I told everyone going into this game was that the colts offense who never turns the ball over was going against the defense that had the most turnovers in the league that year, and that this game would be decided by a saints takeaway just like the NFC championship game...and I spent the whole night yelling I called it
Also never forget the 43-8 thrashing LOL
I hated the Colts so much that this game is what made me a Saints fan. Still am today
0:29 poor gumbo
Feel bad for Peyton. Choked a lot when it mattered most. If it wasn't for that then he would've been the goat. Would have more rings.
DVJFan Peyton is 3-1 against Brady in AFC championships. So, no, Peyton owns Brady when it matters most. Peyton just lost to everyone else, and Brady beats everyone else.
alienzero52 Peyton won 2, let’s Brees and the Saints have 1!
Sam T Peyton’s Defense won him 2 out of those three
I was watching with my Dad, when Porter intercepted that pass u could've heard us yelling 3 counties away!
Manning telegraphed that pass from before snap
WHO DAT BABY. How does drew not have an MVP?
WHO DAT
Guess I don't have much of a life, but that interception was one of my happiest moments of my life! Thank God the Saints won!
Greatest moment in saints history in my opinion
The most legendary play in the history of ALL of sports.
no it isn't. You mean the most legendary play in NEW ORLEANS history. I think the Brandon Graham strip sack is the greatest play in Eagles history (im an eagles fan). But I don't think its the most legendary play of all time. I love this play, but still.
Tracy porter is my good dad and this man is a goat at football and irl I went to see him a while ago still a very cool dude
*god
This moment was fucking amazing
still gives me chills
3:29 most iconic shot in Saints history 👏
I shouldve asked Sean Payton what lottery numbers to pick that day😂😂😂
This one should be number one Way better than the Malcolm Butler pick
“You won a Super Bowl!”
“So did you!”
Best qb HC duo ever
Happy birthday Tracy!!
No mention of Bountygate, interesting
The single greatest moment in all of human history.
Exactly, if they ran Sluggo it’s a td all day
It’s also wild that the best 2 players and players the narrator mentions from the colts, manning and Wayne, are both from New Orleans.
Tracy Porter was the real MVP of SB-44.
There were & are many great players wearing DA SAINTS Black and Gold ⚜⚜⚜
THREE OF THE BEST:
1. JOHN GILLIAM - 1ST TD
2. DREW BREES - BEST QB
3. TRACY PORTER - SB-MVP
SAYS DA UWD & DATS DAT!
1:27 .... Russell Wilson tried to do the same in Superbowl XLIX
Brees>Wilson
I prayed to the football gods for that interception. The first time my prayers were answered. ⚜⚜⚜
The highlight of Porter's career
Despite all the heart breaks after this superbowl, I can always look back and say....at least we didn't choke like the falcons 😆 WHO DAT BABY
My favorite Peyton Manning touchdown pass.
As a Colts fan, having the chance to finally win a rewatchable and non-shitshow super bowl was so exciting to me and then to watch that pick burn everything that I was hoping for. A great play but it makes me feel sick watching it man.
Jeff Saturday recently said he still wants to throw up when he hears the words "The Saints."
Block in the back @ 3:34
Watching the Saints in 2021- 2022 .They had a great defense to take them to the Super Bowl...
G.O.A.T.
Jack League at choking
Jack League L
I still remember how crazy people went in my neighborhood.
WHO DAT?! Geaux Saints!!!
This list is missing another Tracy Porter INT.
Why did they stop designing the Super Bowl logo after this Super Bowl?
Hey a Manning finally helped the Saints win a championship
I cried I’m not even going to lie who dat
Manning is a world class choke artist. He's not a Top 10 all time QB.
Jonathan Blaze what tips of drugs are you in?
Diego Chávez It's called reality.
Jonathan Blaze sorry but it's called drugs
Jonathan Blaze Peyton manning is a bigg choke artist but he us deff a top 10 qb stop it
Jonathan Blaze 2-2 in the Super Bowl 4-1 in Afc titles (3-1 against Brady), he's top three in playoff td's yards, and wins, and all with two teams and a different head coach each time, choke on his rings.
The greatest interception in Superbowl history
Manning threw away the game.. He's from Louisiana 🔥
This was the greatest play in Super Bowl history idgaf what anybody says
Tracy Porter is the only reason the Saints were even in the Super Bowl.
Favre and the Vikings were in FG range and everyone in the Dome knew it, then Tracy clutched up and picked off Favre.
in the very beggining it says 3 and 2
One thing these talking heads keep saying is PM was trying to take his team down the field to "win the game".
Boy, the Superbowl after party must have been bigger than Mardi Gra that year.
It's pretty obvious this would happen.
Not many players can say they threw the gw td pass for the team they grew up rooting for
This should be #2 rather than James Harrisons given the magnitude of this play.
The 2009 Saints championship will always be tainted by Bountygate.
