@@Rimzler For one, for people like me that don't care about the features the 03 has over the Vista/Link, I've built one very similar to this but with a Naked Vista and Nebula Pro Nano. It's only 60 grams total!!! By going with the Vista, you get the weight WAY down, of course, but that has another awesome effect - You can use an even smaller 300mah 2s to keep total weight much much lower than the Darkstar.
IMO, manufacturers have been so infatuated with the 03, they've nearly completely forgot about Vista and the ease of going Naked Vista vs. Naked 03. GepRc even makes this Darkstar with a Vista option! And, only $269! with ELRS! Still, for some reason it's way heavier than my 60g weight of my build. GepRC in their laziness quotes the same weight on the 03 version vs. the Vista version! Geez! So, hard to tell how much the Vista version actually weighs.
My build also uses 1103 motors and is still only 60g, while those motors give us a step up in speed and thrust.
Here is a little info that I hope helps others when they buy a newer drone with Crossfire
I just received my geprc darkstar 20 with tbs crossfire yesterday. I'll just say after too many hrs of trying to figure out why I couldn't get the crossfire to bind with my radio. I finally found a video on RUclips that explains the problem. Evidently the newer drones that shipped with crossfire is supposed to have some small note in the box that says you must update the firmware in the crossfire module to at least 6.10. I did the latest 6.28 I believe. So that worked immediately. The receiver bound perfectly. Butttt now you have to rebind all your other crossfire drones, which turned out to be extremely fast and simple. I put the radio in buying mode, plugged a battery into a different drone. It automatically sends it needed a new update. No pressing the bind button and inserting battery which is a big pain in the rear!! Lol. It took about 2.minutes per drone to update and rebind. Now all is good.
One other pretty big change that freaked me out a bit. This drones AIO only makes 2 beeps when you plug in a battery. Not the traditional 2 sets of tones. I thought I got a dud . But when I plugged into betaflight everything seemed to be fine. That would have been extremely helpful to know in advance!!

a little suggestion..consider putting throttle percentage on the OSD..i am really curious what the hover throttle percentage is for this little darkstar20.. cuz my cinelog20 needs like 55% throttle just to take off and cruising around at like 55% throttle as well.. its takes some getting used to, to always be that high in the throttle range the entire flight.
Usually I try to keep things stock as they come including osd, but that's a real nice suggestion! I will add in further videos thanks!

What props do you recommend for this drone?
Dropped a subscribe. Excellent channel! My EMAX Cinehawk arrive with a faulty gyro, now I can't decide on what to get next - have been stuck between Cinelog20/25 and this. My original plan was to have a drone that's capable of carrying a go-pro if I ever use it for work. I think my main use would be to do light acro with just O3 - similar to what you do. I feel like the darkstar can do indoor/outdoor fun a bit better than the cinelog20 or 25? I'd buy em all if I could.
Can you put the propellers on either side or is there a specific side to put them on?

crazy it cost nearly as much as the GEPRC Mark5 and yet its less than half the size! really looking at getting a small indoor/outdoor/travel drone to fly around, but also want to stay in the DJI ecosystem (sadly i went with the goggles 2 vs the V2 so i cant go analog unless i want to get new goggles, my mistake there)

Enjoying all of your videos, and would like to see more of your day travels with your GF combined with drone flights. :) As we have long, cold winters with lots of snow, a drone that we can use both indoors and outdoors is needed. I am finding it difficult to choose between GEPRC Darkstar 20, BETAFPV PavoPico or Pavo20. Have you or anyone flown inside with any of these drones? Also what is the sound level difference please? Pavo pico is smaller and if you don't have to acro is good for indoors maybe the best, darkstar is more powerful and better for acro also outside, still good inside and lower pitch so it sounds maybe quieter than pico, Pavo 20 I have to try yet, should be louder and being 3s will be jumpier indoors, but can probably put 2s as well... Anyway should arrive tomorrow I hope so will have a more complete picture
Thanks for your response. Much appreciated. It is a very difficult decision between DJI 03 - BetaFPV Pavo Pico, Pavo20 or GEPRC Darkstar20 for sure. I am looking forward to your review on the Pavo20. Please include the fact the Pavo20 has 2 props and not screwed in vs 3-4 props screwed in. I "feel" it MIGHT be a negative overall but perhaps not an issue at all. I love the PAVO20 lighting but think 1 of the other 2 for all around small indoor/outdoor fpv is the best. FYI: if you do add more day adventures combining drone video, my wife will also be interested in watching, unlike other channels where ONLY drones...LOL :) Keep up the great videos!!! @@Rimzler

Do you get butter smooth footage from the O3?
I just bought The darkstar -also hyped from this video- and once I stabilyze the footage in Gyroflow it gets small continuous shakes that make the video just not professional (kinda blurry sometimes). I read it could be the esc frequency interfering with the gyro-sensors of the o3; so I changed it to high Hertz, but nothing. Soft mounting the camera seems also a goofy solution on a ready-to-fly. Do you have any idea what it can be?

They have 3 versions, o3, avatar, and without receiver version, it's 3 different listings on the website
I really Liked this drone until I saw another review a tuber said it had no dampening and after a few crashes it will have jello which turned me off to it immediately. But I heard you comment that it does have dampening for the camera to help with jello? Thanks in advance. I like your flying style it’s fun to watch you fly the reason I subscribed a year ago. So I think the dampening could be made better, and it would have been totally perfect!
There is a bit of rubber between camera and plastic that somewhat helps, it's the least jello 2s I tried and it's really fine unless you full throttle
I had a couple of bangs and still no jello, of course if the props are damaged you are supposed to change them on any drone, unbalances cause vibration!

How does it compare to the cinelog20? Is it quieter? The cinelog20 seems to have the same puprose and being stronger. And it has vibration dumpening on the camera of the o3 air unit. What are your thoughts?
So it is definitely much quieter and lighter, c20 is more powerful, flies a bit better and Hass much better damping!

How come on the big screen it looks so smooth like it has stabilization? But on the small screen it look a little bit wobbly. Is it in the post process of the clip?
The big screen is stabilized to show the final result and check for jello

Try grabbing the motor with fingers and twisting left and right pull the propeller away

There is no way to put a cam on it, I used gyroflow on the o3¡
Do you think the performance may be due to the 4 bladed props? The other drones in this class use 2 bladed props. I wonder how the Pavo 20 would perform with 3 or 4 bladed props...
These are very light pitch quad blade props. From my testing most 3 blade 2" prop had more Power. These props just grip very well
This quad blades are some of the best for 2 inch IMHO, they grip well, are silent and smooth!
What do you think biggest battery and flight time could be achieved
I have been looking for bigger batteries but hard to find stick type, I would say a 600/900 mAh is totally plausible on this drone

why aren't you considering the axisflying cineon C20 ? have you already made up your mind?
I would go with flylens 85 or Pavo 20 if you want a very light and silent only o3 drone, for more power and possibly a naked GoPro the cinelog 20 or axisflying c20 are basically the same drone and very very good
Is it better than flywoo flylens 75?
I place Flylens85 in first position, Pavo 20 in second and Flylens75 in 3rd (maybe together with the darkstar20)

Is this the quitest drone with O3 on the market now?
It's one of the quietest for sure, the lighter the less air needs to move, the less noise! Small props make a higher pitch noise tho so will feel a bit noisier

How does this compare to the Pavo Pico?
Darkstar Flies much better, has much less jello, only a tiny amount shows up at full throttle
Pico is a bit smaller and a tad lighter

@@vangarus I didn’t even know that was a thing. I might actually built one of those and take the air unit off of my pico (the only quad I’ve built this year). However like I said GEPRC is a solid company and if they offered a build your own kit I’d choose theirs first at the right price. It’s a weird space price wise, always has been to some extent, so you really have to know what it is your expecting to get and having the ability to move parts in building and rebuilding around is a valuable skills to have.
Most brands including Geprc offer without camera drone, so with one o3 in 5 minutes you can move it around drones!

This is halfway between a Flylens85 and a cinelog20, a bit more powerful and heavy than a 2s but not as much as a 4s, depends what you are looking for
