It's an exercise of lateral rotators of hip joint.. namely Piriformis, superior and inferior gemelii, quadratus femoris.. . One has to covert bellow knee part of the leg in to the thigh first by bundling them together and then let the thigh guide(adduction of the already lateraly rotated thigh) that part of the bellow knee leg in to the desired position of the lotus pose..
