You can play NDS and N64 games well on the original RG35XX using Koriki OS which is very pleasing to the eye. PSP work with some tweaks too. Dreamcast also possible but haven't tried. Love the channel btw!
Nice review. Thanks! I recently came into ownership of one of these. But, having problems getting it to boot. I will eventually figure out what’s blocking it. So, I am really looking forward to playing it. It does look pretty awesome. 👍🏻
The best way to explain it is in RetroArch controller settings, for N64, usually the C buttons are setup on an Xbox controller by using the right joystick up/down/left/right. So with the Brawler, you essentially setup the C buttons in the same place the right joystick is setup instead. It takes a bit of tinkering, but a game like WWF No Mercy is good to test it out Just make sure to take note of your setup and save the settings Also, I usually setup the brawler in Port 2 and leave the handheld itself as Port 1. You can set Player 1 as Port 2 in the quick menu of WWF No Mercy and then tinker with the controls. It sounds complicated but it's just a matter of getting the buttons right

Thanks I appreciate that. I believe mine had some Dreamcast and PS1 games loaded on both cards, so you should have some, but not many. I am not able to provide where to search for games to download
I have heard the SD card is faulty and would corrupt after some time. Is the plus model any different? Would I need to get my own SD card and do it myself?
That is true, it is possible for it to corrupt. You should backup your files on your computer in case it happens. But yeah, getting your own SD card with software from the community installed is a lot more reliable
You’ll need to confirm that your Xbox controller is a Bluetooth one. If your Xbox controller was paired with a different device before, unplug that device so it won’t power on. Make sure the RG35XX Plus is scanning for controllers and hold the pairing button on the top of the Xbox controller so the controller light is blinking. Move other Bluetooth devices out of the area such as your phone. Keep trying different pairing steps in a different order, such as using the Xbox pairing button first, then scan for Bluetooth devices on the RG35XX Plus

Here are a few Reddit posts that may help you out. It may be possible, but it seems more like a manual thing where you trade save files using your computer and maybe some software to make it work. It seems more like a computer files situation rather than devices themselves. But you may be able to use the wifi function to make it easier.. I’m not 100% sure on it, but people are discussing it. If you shine your phone light at the screen on an angle and can barely see the menu icons, you should be able to get into settings and change your brightness. Try tapping on the power button. Remove the SD card and power it on.. turn it off and put the card back in. You could get a new SD card and add custom firmware from the community. You may be able to find some answers on Reddit. They seem to be pretty similar. Once you go past the PS1 you’ll have hit and miss games. The rgARC comes with Sega Saturn emulation (hit & miss) if you’re not into modding with custom firmware. It seems like a known issue with that game. You can try a few things. First, on the main menu of the handheld you can choose ‘RA GAME’ (RetroArch) as the second option, then open your games. If that’s not working… try the first option in the main menu, it will let you open GBA without RetroArch. I have heard that updating the stock software using the SD cards is a mess. I don’t think wifi will work for that. I personally am going to wait until GarlicOS is updated for the Plus and make a video on how to do that
Yeah it didn't last long in our household lol News stories let everyone's parents know about it and it was gone 😆 glad to see it in a safer format through emulation these days
You should check your SD card on your computer and see where your saves are stored in the files. If you find Emerald’s saves, then you could try putting it where RetroArch is saving it and see if it recognizes it
Hit the ‘reset’ button next to the power button. Try taking the SD card out and starting it up. Then turn it off, put it back in and start it up. You can try using custom firmware on a new SD card from the community. Search Reddit. But if nothing works just return it and get it exchanged
I guess it depends on what you’d use it for. The original RG35XX has been optimized with GarlicOS 2.0 and would be perfect for handheld gaming up to the PS1. But if you want a stronger chipset to include a lot of games from N64/Dreamcast/DS/PSP, wifi, bluetooth, etc. then the RG35XX Plus would be the way to go I would personally choose the RG35XX Plus if I were choosing between the 2 because it will be optimized with new CFW such as GarlicOS, but it’s brand new, so still have to wait on it. And you’ll get more features Also worth mentioning, there are several new handhelds with joysticks on them as well. A new one that people really like is the Powkiddy RGB30, which I also reviewed. But if you’re new to emulation handhelds, it may be good to check out a bunch to get an idea of what you’re looking for
@@obelisk_hdBluetooth devices seem to work well with the device. I’ve read on Reddit that people use Bluetooth audio transmitters on the original RG35XX

Hey, I’m really interested in getting this, but don’t have a way to add roms or emulators to it. How could I play more DS or N64 games on the device without adding roms myself
If you can’t mod the device at all, if you have the games you like on another device like Nintendo Switch, then you can stream the games to the device using Moonlight

Do you know how to add missing platforms like colecovision, atari Lynx, etc ? These 2 in particular do appear somewhere in retroarch settings so I suppose there's a way to add them? Also one thing I noticed is that when you use a Bluetooth controller the A button does not work on the master system, although the controller is mapped correctly in retroarch options. I tried with a 8bitdo sn30 and a ps5 controller, other consoles were fine.
I know colecovision may be a bit tricky from what I’ve read on Reddit before. You can try doing what I did to add N64 on the menu. For example: Try adding your Atari Lynx games to the Atari Lynx folder in the roms list if it’s there. If you can’t see a folder for it, try creating a folder with your games. RetroArch may recognize it and it will show up in the menus. Another idea is to try adding an emulator to the standalone list that show up in the ‘Game Rooms’ menu. It may be a different process when the updated GarlicOS is released, I’ll have to test it out. I have noticed that some buttons may not work initially, so I’ve had to map out specific buttons in the RetroArch controller settings even though it looks like it’s setup. Did you try remapping the A button while you have a master system game open?
There's no atari lynx or coleco folder by default, so I created a COLECO folder with roms in it, I also added a coleco.rom bios in the bios folder, but nothing happened. About the button mapping I tried to remap it manually even though it looked correctly mapped, but it didn't work. I suspect something is wrong specifically with SMS in this machine as I noticed another problem with it: the personal roms (in the 2nd sd card) do not appear. I have about 30 SMS games, none of them appeared when they were zipped, and 3 of them appeared when I unzipped them 🤨. I hope custom firmware will fix this.
Thanks for the update but that sucks those systems are giving you problems. I’ll be sure to test them out with the completed GarlicOS build when it’s released
@@batpixel the BT controller works correctly outside RA, under ''game room", and I can still use the stock roms so that's fine. I've made my own list of games (about 600) from Pong to GBA that I play in chronological order. I'm in 1984 now so I hope it will be fixed before I reach the Nes/SMS era !
Also no one should be paying extra for the microSD cards. They're generic, unbranded microSD cards and they *will* fail in due time. They're just not reliable. Pay the lowest possible price and then buy Sandisk ones down the line. It's like $14 for a 256 GB microSD card and another $10 for a smaller one to put in the main slot and that will cover all your needs.
Haha I had that problem with the Miyoo Mini Plus, but not this one 😆 I guess it’ll be different for everyone, but it’s a reference from when I reviewed the Miyoo
Yeah the Sandisk cards are the smarter way to go, I have a couple of Sandisk cards at the end of the video when I mention CFW. Hopefully they finish optimizing GarlicOS for this updated version soon
sadly this thing is nearly 130 bucks here after shipping and import taxes.. thats to much as for 150 bucks you get into the territory of better ergonomic devices. Plas the inverted XY and AB is stupid for anyone outside japan/asia. so i would ahve to invert it in software and open the device up to change the buttons.
Try pressing the menu button to access the RetroArch Quick Menu then go down to Controls/Port 1 Controls then set your dpad up manually. You should see the dpad icons near the top of the list for up, down, left, & right
I should mention that you can remap the dpad under the main RetroArch ‘Settings’ menu as well. So press your menu button, then press B to back out to the main RetroArch menu. Go to settings menu, then input, and find Port 1 Controls. You can remap the dpad in there up, down, left, right. Just press ‘A’ on each one and then press the dpad direction to set it
Yeah good idea. As I mentioned in the video, they are still building new CFW for this device. When it’s completed I’ll make a video about it. You can currently use GarlicOS 2.0 that was made for the original RG35XX, but you will lose new features, so it is better to wait

I am not able to share information on downloading games as a RUclips channel
Is there no way to update via wifi? It's a total mess trying to update via SD cards.
I have heard that updating the stock software using the SD cards is a mess. I don’t think wifi will work for that. I personally am going to wait until GarlicOS is updated for the Plus and make a video on how to do that
do the short keys work for the rg35xx as well?
RetroArch generally has shortcuts and you can even set them up in the menus
@@batpixel thanks
Oooh yeah. The virtual boy was known for or said to cause headaches, nausea, migraines, sickness, eye strain
Yeah it didn't last long in our household lol News stories let everyone's parents know about it and it was gone 😆 glad to see it in a safer format through emulation these days
@@batpixel tbh tho it didn’t mean Nintendo had to treat yokoi so badly until he left but they did anyway
Is there a way for me to transfer save files from Game Rooms to Retroarch? I'm playing Emerald on Game Rooms and don't wanna restart if possible
You should check your SD card on your computer and see where your saves are stored in the files. If you find Emerald’s saves, then you could try putting it where RetroArch is saving it and see if it recognizes it
@@batpixel thank you, will try this
Let me know how it goes 👌🏻
Does this console comes with game ?
Yes they come pre installed
Mine won’t get off the booting screen. What should I do?
Hit the ‘reset’ button next to the power button. Try taking the SD card out and starting it up. Then turn it off, put it back in and start it up. You can try using custom firmware on a new SD card from the community. Search Reddit. But if nothing works just return it and get it exchanged
@@batpixel ok thanks
@@batpixel it doesn’t turn on without the SD card
@@CPD_scratchit sounds like you received a dud unfortunately. I’d just do a return on it
@@batpixel I’m getting a replacement today. Thank you though.
Does it come with n64 on it already?
Yes but you won’t see it unless you add one of your own games
Rg35xx or plus? Im new to emulation handhelds but have been emulating for years on pc.
I guess it depends on what you’d use it for. The original RG35XX has been optimized with GarlicOS 2.0 and would be perfect for handheld gaming up to the PS1. But if you want a stronger chipset to include a lot of games from N64/Dreamcast/DS/PSP, wifi, bluetooth, etc. then the RG35XX Plus would be the way to go
I would personally choose the RG35XX Plus if I were choosing between the 2 because it will be optimized with new CFW such as GarlicOS, but it’s brand new, so still have to wait on it. And you’ll get more features
Also worth mentioning, there are several new handhelds with joysticks on them as well. A new one that people really like is the Powkiddy RGB30, which I also reviewed. But if you’re new to emulation handhelds, it may be good to check out a bunch to get an idea of what you’re looking for
@@batpixel does the plus have bluetooth audio?
@@obelisk_hdBluetooth devices seem to work well with the device. I’ve read on Reddit that people use Bluetooth audio transmitters on the original RG35XX
@@batpixel thanks for the help, I am looking for a nice gameboy sized handheld to play gba snes psp and ps1 rpgs so lack of analogs doesn't really bother me , I'll probably pick up the rg35xx plus. Also excited to see what the community can pull off with this new chip with custom firmware.
@@obelisk_hdawesome, even on the stock firmware those will work fine. Hope you enjoy it!
Dude, get a freaking Retro Pocket 3+ and let me know if it's still worth getting... 😮
People love the Retroid Pocket 3+ so if you’re thinking about it, it’s a solid choice. I’d say look at comparison videos comparing that to the Pocket 4 and 4+
Anyone know a trustworthy place where i can buy these or miyoo mini plus thats been modified with new sd card and new os. I dont have a pc so cant do it myself so wouldnt mind paying extra just to have one thats already been modified so i can just pick up and play
I’m pretty sure if you click on my link for the MECHdiy website, you can now buy a Miyoo Mini Plus with OnionOS on their website. They accept PayPal as well. Note that I have an affiliate link and a non-affiliate link for your choice, but you can get 15% off by using the discount code BATPIXEL
Seen a dude on eBay ready to play
Amazon
can this play gamecube games
I wouldn’t recommend it. The N64 and DS pretty much max it out
Do you know how to add missing platforms like colecovision, atari Lynx, etc ?
@@certes7920that’s awesome you go through the time eras like that!
My finger constantly goes over the speaker. I hold it very differently from you, apparently.
Yeah that’s quite expensive. Where are you from?
Im having prob when plying psp gta the dpad doesnt work anyone have a any idea......
Try pressing the menu button to access the RetroArch Quick Menu then go down to Controls/Port 1 Controls then set your dpad up manually. You should see the dpad icons near the top of the list for up, down, left, & right
@@batpixel thx 🙏
I should mention that you can remap the dpad under the main RetroArch ‘Settings’ menu as well. So press your menu button, then press B to back out to the main RetroArch menu. Go to settings menu, then input, and find Port 1 Controls. You can remap the dpad in there up, down, left, right. Just press ‘A’ on each one and then press the dpad direction to set it
@@batpixel thanks problem solved.
Awesome 👌🏻
couldn't find super mario bros. am i missing something?
Yes, but I am not able to share information about adding games
@@batpixel Thank you. I returned it!
if it has custom OS i will buy it
Yeah good idea. As I mentioned in the video, they are still building new CFW for this device. When it’s completed I’ll make a video about it. You can currently use GarlicOS 2.0 that was made for the original RG35XX, but you will lose new features, so it is better to wait
@batpixel i hope it gets support
Yeah they announced they are building it. It’s in alpha stage at the moment
@batpixel This chip is strong. Some people manage to run the last game of ninja turtles and stardew Valley in some devices like ambernic rg35xx and pawkiddy rgb30.
Both are Linux versions of Pc
@@Rayu25Demon yeah I reviewed the RGB30 as well, but I never put CFW on it. I may look into it soon too. I’m excited to see what is released in the years to come
please how to play super mario
Sorry I am not able to supply information about the games due to copyright reasons
does the rg35xx plus come with WWF No mercy?
It does not come with any N64 games, but the folder does exist
@@batpixel im guessing you added the game? sorry I don’t quite understand
@@batpixel like , how were you able to ply it
There are some topics that are illegal for me to give information on RUclips due to Nintendo game rights etc., so I can’t discuss this topic
I got mine today, and I am really bummed they removed the N64 from mine, really sucks
It should be there! Add an N64 game to the N64 folder on one of the SD cards using your computer, the external sd card for example. It should show up
POV: you bought this for pokemon
Perfect for the Game Boy generations
@@batpixel tbh, I really only ever needed one of these for gameboy, the advanced, the sp. I don’t really care to play other crazy consoles.
Maybe some nintendo DS games buuuuut yeah.
Are all the pokemon games available?
Mine came with a ton of Pokémon games for Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance. It’s possible there may be a couple of games missing initially
Had one next day. All game erase it self
The Plus? Do you have the option to exchange it?
How ya gettin on me ol man
Alright by, how's she cuttin'? I remember being at your house emulating Super Mario Bros NES on your computer lol
@@batpixelThose were the days!
The fact it doesnt have sticks is a big no from me.
Yeah for sure, the Anbernic RG35XX series and Miyoo Mini series are both amazing. And it’s no issue to use a controller did you ever did want them anyway
That’s actually what I like about it, It’s more pocketable and with sticks it would make it a pain taking it out my pants
@@zendog-7778that’s a good point. I guess it all depends on what people are looking for. I love that the Powkiddy RGB30 has sticks and makes it so much easier to hop in and out of generations that way. But a Game Boy style handheld in your pocket is definitely something to appreciate lol
It's supposed to mimic ol skool gameboys
@@jayflores3947yeah they do an amazing job
dont use stock firmware
Yeah CFW is better 👌🏻 As I mentioned in the video, I’d rather wait until they complete an updated GarlicOS for the RG35XX Plus instead of using 2.0 and I’ll be making a video about the update
And what CFW for the Plus do you recommend? I got mine today and GarlicOS is still way alpha and the stock OS might not be the best but it was fine for a few hours of gaming today.
I have an original RG35XX and much prefer GarlicOS 1.4.9, but that device has been heavily optimized.
GarlicOS seems to be most popular for the original RG35XX, so I’m going to wait for the optimized build of that for the Plus
@@batpixel oh, I knew what _you_ were going to do. 😉 I was asking @dbozgt because as of now, we really don’t have any decent CFW for the device at the moment.
