I killed a RG35XX and RG35XX+ and both were destroyed. The second time was a mistake, I was in a hurry and wanted to charge it. I took the wrong charger (Samsung Fastcharge) and instantly killed.
@wizzel22 The issue is that one fast charger may work, but not all, and people do not know which are safe to use. As there are alot of people who have used a fast charger and damaged thier devices.
@@N0FPVthere are multiple types of fast charging. I would assume PD would be safe, but non-PD ones could potentially overload the circuits. I use a PD charger myself, and have never had an issue with my RG35XX or RG35XX plus.
Watching this while waiting on my device... Really useful, as I probably would have killed the device with a fast charger if I hadn't seen this. Will be sure to flash a new card and look at your other guides!

@@JaviPlayRetro with my big hands and not great eyesight I think a horizontal handheld with a bigger screen is in my near future. Basically I want something already setup and ready to go for pokemon games while still having the built in cheat function
Thank you for your videos on this device. I absolutely love mine and it came dead on arrival, but with your videos I was able to flash a new micro sd card and use dual sd card method.
A comment on fast charging: I charged my 35XX Plus on arrival with a 5V/3A charger, from 70% to full. Didn't destroy my device, but the charge diagnostics showed my voltage well over 4.1V. Grabbed an old Apple brick I had laying in a drawer at my business, and voltage is now reading a much less pulse-pounding 3.81V. Definitely seems to be something to this
Got mine just to play Pokémon Ron hacks but then remembered the countless games from my childhood that were literally just preloaded! The TMNY beat ‘em up was such a huge part of my playtime growing up I popped off hard seeing it was already on the console
Actually, the very 1st thing you should do. Is get a 64gb or higher sd card and copy everything over from the jank 64gb sd card that comes with the handheld. While looking through reviews before I bought mine. I noticed people talking about everything working great until their SD card failed a day or 2 later. And yeah the card that comes with it, looks like the very bottom of the barrel of cheap SD cards. Which is understandable. Considering the price of the entire unit. Just treat the stock SD card as a 1 time use type thing and just backup the info that's on it.
Sorry for blowing up your comments section 😂 last thing I have to add is that the included screen protector is fine. Use wet wipe first to remove oils, dry wipe second to remove dust, then check under intense light for any dust specks remaining and gently catch/sweep them with the dry wipe. Keep the dry wipe! Then peel the backing off the protector and carefully *drop it* smack in the center of your screen. I used the fingers grasping the sides of the screen protector to help align it with the device, and dropped it from less than a centimeter above the screen. It should kinda float, allowing you to nudge it for any fine adjustments. Then, *press the center* and let the film do its thing. Grab a credit card, then *using the dry wipe as a buffer* , carefully but firmly work any bubbles (there should be minimal if done this way) out the sides. My screen protector is completely flush and transparent. Could've just gotten lucky with the cut of it though 🤷
Ive been looking into tutorials for these before i dove in and got one. Your videos definitely explain everything a beginner neeqs to know to get started. I cant wait to play the old zelda games, pokemon, and bomberman
Your review is fantastic my friend, I'm finishing my review here in Brazil too and the tip about charging and cards as you mentioned are essential to maintain the health of our portable console. Congratulations!
I appreciate the tip about charging. Unfortunately people tend to only report problems so it seem worse than it is. There's always a failure rate. Until someone post what that rate is there's no way to know if this is actually know how bad it is. From what I can tell as long as you charge it with the correct voltage and amperage (5v 1.5A) charger things seem to be within the average failure rate of most electronic devices.
Exactly, latest firmware breaks a few things. Screen refresh rate, for instance. In retroarch - Settings - Video - Output, retroarch reports a screen refresh rate of 64.926 Hz. It should say 59.941 Hz.
Regarding the charger, does anyone knows if using an Anker 737 GaNPrime is safe? It's a high quality, high power charger, with safety features, so if the device cannot tell what power to use, the charger should switch to default, low power USB charging, right?
I used the high-power charger 65w regularly on 35xx and 35xxPlus. My 35xx works fine but the battery dies in sleep mode around 3 hours. On the plus, it keeps rebooting again and again. Bad! Now I only use a normal charger
Anbernic says it's support C to C charging, but that doesn't mean everything charger is safe. Please be careful. These are batteries that can explode. It's probably fine. Just dont do it again. For now, just charge from your pc or laptop with the a regular usb a to usb c cable. Or use an old charger thats rated 5V/1A.
14:13 WTF?! The baby on the background scared the shit out of me! The background noises with the surround sound on headphones makes the sounds come from outside and back of my room! Jeeez!
Regarding the fast charging, i guess it depends on the charger itself. The charger should recognise the device is not compatible with fast charging and default to the lowest output. But not all do that.
Tip: Update it with latest firmware 1208 firmware it works a lot better (PSP / Dreamcast) ... how can you say keep it with the first one... 1108 is really not the best version... 1208 is way better and was also a lot more stable on my device and you can use the Dpad as a stick now with some games on PSP and DC. I love this Anbernic Device it's one of my favorites but please UPDATE it with 1208 it's really better in a lot of ways! You also have SEGA Mega CD and PC ENGINE CD (I added a lot of those games)
I dont like the way boxart is treated in 1208. Also, I've read a lot of reports from people having different issues with this firmware. Things like PSP emulation getting worst to battery being drained while off and stuff like that. You can do what you want. Im okay 1108 personally. I personally dont play those cd based systems like sega cd. And you can do the psp analog to dpad thing on 1108 pretty easily.

Can it use sticks on a bluetooth controller? It would be nice for some newer games (if they run!?) Anyway, love the video, I will be coming back for more!! Oh almost forgot, I have a bluetooth controller that was used with a Switch.... do you think it will work? Guess I will find out soon, my device is arriving today!

They really need to work on Bluetooth audio, my headphones jack has a short and their solution is for me to ship back my device(which could be 8 days or more), they receive the device, exchange for another one(which could be 8 days or more). All of this during the holiday times, it could be a month before I get the replacement while being empty handed. I'm trying to see if I can fix Bluetooth audio myself, maybe script it
Im sorry to hear that. My device isn't perfect either. Mine has some light bleed along the screen edges where the screen is not glued all the way. It's not noticeable in the day, but it's annoying at night. I could return it as I bought it from Amazon, but it's not really that serious to me. I plan to fix it, myself too. Good luck with yours, though. I hope you find an easy fix! Ill let you know if Anbernic fixes bluetooth audio in the next update.
I got mine today and I wanted to play Mortal Kombat in the PS1 and I got an error saying CD ERROR!! lol and how would you play Duck Hunt in this thing!! I just beat CONTRA in the NES GAMES, and non of the Mario Brothers games are here!!
Just got an rg35xx... Complete noob .. Harry Potter chamber of secrets keeps freezing during intro. Read on Reddit, need to overclock. But watching this super helpful video (seriously would've killed my device), I noticed I don't have half those settings. Barely any customization settings and def no retroarch. Now I'm just confused
Hi all, I just bought my console and was wondering if it matters how I charge it the first time. Should I fully charge it first before powering up the console or can I play with it a bit 5-10% and then let it charge?
Link to wall charger needs to be updated.... the one you linked is no longer available. I do have an old iPhone charger, I guess I will use that one. I would like to find a compatible charger that had multiple ports, so I could charge more than 1 device at a time. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!
Regarding the charger, only the voltage (5V) should match perfectly. For the ampere, it can be greater than or equal 1.5A. Using a 1A charger might damage the unit/battery in the long run since the device expects 1.5A.
I've been charging all my devices on a slow charger for a while and never had a problem. I find the higher amp actually generates more heat, so I prefer a slower charger. I think the heat generated is worse than more time on a slower charger. Also, that's untrue because when you charge from a computer, it charges even slower at .5A. So 1A is perfectly safe and recommended by me.
For everyone reading this comment. You have been warned. If you plug into a fast charger, anything over 1.5A, don't be surprised when you start experiencing battery issues. Trust me, I've seen a lot of people devices go bad.
@StopToBreathe If it's still working, it should be fine. Just stay away from fast chargers. Just because it works now doesn't mean it's going to work later without problems. Anything above the recommended 5V/1.5A I would not use at all and anything below that is fine to use. If you charge from you pc, you'll be getting around 5V/.5A which is really slow but 100% safe to charge with.
i have been having audio issues 24/7 since getting this device. nonstop humming as well as screetching noise, and can only be drowned out (not fixed) with super high volume. have tried with/without wifi/bluetooth on , restarting , resetting , etc. could i have possibly gotten a bad unit ? literally it does not stop unless device is powered off.
I have a few questions: If i have 2 Bluetooth controllers can 2 people play a fighting game together? Also, Amazon has an SD card that's just as good, would that be fine?
thanks for your sharing, fast charge warrning is a good thing to know!!! not every TYPE-C connector is suit for fast charger!!!could you also make a video about how to flash to 128G TF card with latest firmware 231212 (official download link with rom include)? i was struggling with 128G or 64G TF card to new purchase. thank you!
Thanks for the content! It helps a lot for new users like me who are starting with the RG35XX+. For now I have installed the factory OS with your tutorial and added a rom pack. Likewise, the Stock OS is somewhat 'ugly' and I understand that it is little used. Are we all waiting for a more stable version of Garlic OS or is there any other alternative? Thanks in advance!
Best way to mess up with retroarch is setting "threaded video" to "off", after that you have to restart the whole device due to action button inputs being ignored. May have changed something crucial in the retroarch mgba menu, now it's unusable and even a "retroarch.config" reset won't help. If you stay away from changing driver settings and this crucial "threaded video" retroarch shouldn't be a big problem at all. Tried shaders, latency - runahead, gpu hardsync and nothing of that stuff crashed the device. But, yeah, SOME settings are very critical
Yeah I actually want to share with you some setting that ive founf that completely break retroarch. In the online updater do not update default controller configs. Horrible idea. You will lose all input except for dpad and you will have reflash you sd card. There no way to fix it easily. Also do not enable menu sounds. This has a bug that breaks psp and dreamcast in game menu.
I'm having trouble adding games. The roms I found online don't have the same file extensions as the default roms. I could just change the file extension, but I doubt that will work.
So I finally got my 8bitDO Pro to work without lag (it was a setting on my LG TV) but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to send audio out to the TV. Video is just fine, but audio is a no go.
Is there a way to play the Pokémon Heart Gold version on this or the plus? I tried and it doesn’t let me click the bottom screen at the start of launch
I want to ask if I used a quick charger from Samsung at 5V - 2.0A just once, does this already mean that I have worsened the performance of the console battery?
You say do not change to much setting on Retro arch, do you mean on the menu accesible thought the seetings icon on the main screen or also the emulator settings when a game is on?,, cause there are setting y may want to change , control mapping for instance.. the n64 controls don t work otherwise, i think.., and the psp analog too.
With my new rg35xx+ I went in to menu > controls> within psp game and was mapping DPAD up and down but now the up and down doesn't work at all in any psp game. Cant navigate menu to change it back. Any help?
Hey, can someone answer my question?: i have two chargers, one is 5.0V- 1.2A, the other is 5.0V-2.0A, are they both good or only the first one?, or nono of them?.., i ask because i am not sure i understand the 1.5A part which Ambernic recommends and if those i have are much higher or lower. Also, this are just output measurements, what about input measurements ,they don t matter?.., i have a 35A on input whit one of the chargers.
i just bought it, its my first time with this console! would u recommend changing the firmware to a new CFW? which one u think its the best second, I bought a new micro sd card, should I buy another one? how many do I need third, do u have any safe page to download roms? i wanna play gba games and lastly, iv been trying some games and many of thems are lagged or low fps... like sega genesis .. is a way to play them better and last question, how do u charge the console? whats the best way to charge it? any USB C cable?? thanks for answering all, cheers I suscribed

Has there been any news for the bt-audio? This one is a dealbreaker for me as I'm looking for getting one for the commute.
I got mine today and I wanted to play Mortal Kombat in the PS1 and I got an error saying CD ERROR!! lol and how would you play Duck Hunt in this thing!!
I just beat CONTRA in the NES GAMES, and non of the Mario Brothers games are here!!
Where did you get the mock game cartridge sticker?
It is strange because their website says it works with C2C (usb C to usb C) charger but I don´t think it exists a 5v 1.5a usb c charger...
That was our research finding too
I've been charging all my devices on a slow charger for a while and never had a problem.
@@JaviPlayRetro i accidentally charged mine in the fast charger, once only, is it alright?
Hey man, great video! By any chance, would you happen to know of a PS5 Controller can be connected to it?
Are you able to play the device while charging it at the same time? Like, plugged in to the wall and also playing a game?
Question, can you download games like candy, crush, saga, and toy blast onto this device and if so, how do you do it?
Doesnt itncome.with garlicOS 2?
I have a really have a MacBook Pro. Would I be able to back up the Original SD, that came with it?
So, plug-in into the tv is just straight foward? And the Bluetooth controller can link 2 to play vs??
I have a few questions: If i have 2 Bluetooth controllers can 2 people play a fighting game together? Also, Amazon has an SD card that's just as good, would that be fine?
Where do I go to get new roms? Since everybody keeps saying not to use the ones it comes with.. please help.

Can you share info on how to use the wifi on adding games on the device.
This is not possible yet. We need to wait for CFW for this feature.
Try batocera
Should i clone the OS SD card, or should I clone the card where games are because i just got my 128gb RG35 plus, and im curious
Does it come with preinstalled games?
So I finally got my 8bitDO Pro to work without lag (it was a setting on my LG TV) but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to send audio out to the TV. Video is just fine, but audio is a no go.
Mine just Stays in begining display and doesnt work !! Help please
Will it show that it is charging or do I just need to keep an eye on it?
Hi , just got mine. May I ask , how long does it take to start? When I turned it on it just stayed on Anbernic logo.
Can I create my own directory with my favorite games, for example MY, in the ROMS directory on the card? And the console will see them?
i just bought it, its my first time with this console! would u recommend changing the firmware to a new CFW? which one u think its the best
second, I bought a new micro sd card, should I buy another one? how many do I need
third, do u have any safe page to download roms? i wanna play gba games
and lastly, iv been trying some games and many of thems are lagged or low fps... like sega genesis .. is a way to play them better
and last question, how do u charge the console? whats the best way to charge it? any USB C cable?? thanks for answering all, cheers I suscribed
Can you conect two blutooth controlers to play two vs two?, sorry to overwhelm you whit questions.. xd

What is “flashing” a SD card?
Hey Javi! My rg35xx plus WiFi won't refresh and I can't add a new one! Any ideas?
Just got my device a few days ago and I was finally able to get my Nintendo pro controller to work with my system but ever since I’ve been able to set that up using retro arc now the a and b button on the anbernic itself doesn’t register in the IO test. When navigating the main menu on the device I have to use the b button to select instead of the a button and the a button does nothing so there’s no way to return to previous menus.
You can try connecting the controller again and reset the defaults of that rg35xx in that controls menu
Can I use this if I don’t have a Pc? How do I download games if I only have a MacBook?
Yeah, you can. Just download games from any game archive online. Example search dreamcast archive etc
In the November version, can you tell me that the PSP's Dpad/analog is corrected?
You can actually just map this in the settings. Make you use psp in the games room you can map R2+dpad as a combo and it will work the same
OK@@JaviPlayRetro
can I ask do you think the D pad is good? i cant stand a bad d pad i wanted to ask someone who would give an honest answer its okay if its not i just want to know before i buy one
It's pretty reasonably. No issues with quarter circles or anything.
Dpad is excellent. Much improved over the regular RG35XX
