      @@Aeririn I also suspect that one of the big reasons why they made this change was because of new players receiving slash procs from nearly every enemy in the game. Taking damage that bypasses your only source of regenerating HP was really annoying without any reliable healing sources, which are few and far between when starting out.

      There's a few more now as well.
      For melee you have the Pathocyst, which is surprisingly not bad with how glaives work now, if you've a riven for it; the Plague Zaw's, Pulmonars and Keratinos for viral, and the Caustacyst for corrosive.
      For secondaries, there's the Kompressa for viral which has innate multishot and decent status to start with, and then the Tysis, and the Catabolyst, which is quite a nasty weapon... (and technically the Stug, but...)
      And finally, primaries you have the Phage as mentioned, which is a status monster, but also the Synapse, which has exceptionally good critical stats, so can make for a nasty Corrosive/Viral/Munitions build. Also the Hema which I never really loved, but the Proboscis Cernos is positively ludicrous with it's viral explosion and the ability to tick multiple status effects on the tether prior the detonation.
      Hilariously good weapon, though I kinda wish it had innate viral instead of corrosive, so you could build corrosive to get max impact from the innate armor bypass after building up a bunch of viral on a tough target. Either way, still great.
      There's a lot of really fun weapons now that can lean into a mix of pretty crazy status effects.

    • @FiveN9ne
      @FiveN9ne 3 года назад

      Except that the proc ratio will make it very hard to proc viral at all unless you have very high fire rate, attack speed or a forced viral proc. Take the plague zaws for example. With just primed pressure point (or CO) and 2 elemental mods for corrosive you have almost 8x more corrosive damage than viral, which means on each status chance occurrence corrosive is 8x more likely to proc over viral. Even puncture proc will be higher since you have more puncture damage than innate viral.

    • @Aeririn
      @Aeririn 3 года назад

      @@FiveN9ne that's why you use weeping wounds. Easy way to get over 300% status chance. Even if it's 8x more likely proc, if you proc 3+ status per hit then it balances out much more nicely. Especially so if using a CO build

    • @FiveN9ne
      @FiveN9ne 3 года назад

      @@Aeririn Yea you can't get that much status, idk where you pulled that number from. Weeping wounds is 440% status chance at max combo. Even if your weapon has base 30% status you reach 160% status chance. And most weapons don't have even that much. Procing more status also means you will just proc more of the dominant element, not that it evens out somehow, that's not how probability works.

I feel since both elemental combos ( Viral & Corrosive ) Can use Heat as a single side element an taking slash & bleed ticks from slash into account. There could’ve been more arguments to be made about which is better with those additional multipliers. Especially with Heat in the mix because it temporarily reduces enemy armor while the burn proc is active. An a point you missed about Viral in this video is that 325% additional damage alongside boosted/enhanced damage with DOT damage types (Damage Over Time) So Heat, Slash, an Toxin damage. Great video nonetheless just wanted to pointed out this interaction the both elements ( Viral & Corrosive ) have with Heat. Against high level enemies, it's best to bring a crit based melee with condition overload and mainly slash together with a mixture of viral, corrosive, heat and radiation distributed between your companion and your gun, for which I find the new sentinel gun Verglas very helpful, despite it's inconsistent firing. Why radiation? Watch a heavy gunner and a nox with rad procs turning on their allies...

    Something else important to consider is the existence of Heat procs. I normally am able to fit three elemental mods onto weapons and by putting Heat on with Viral, it creates a pretty good combo. Heat procs reduce armor on the first stack and each stack deals damage over time, meaning that it acts as somewhat of a mini corrosive proc as well as adding some DoT. Heat procs therefore help Viral weapons get through armor while Viral procs amplify the damage of Heat procs. At this point, most of my weapons use this Viral + Heat combo and it works pretty well.

    It's important to note that the relationship between Viral and Corrosive gets even more complicated once you add Heat to the mix. As Heat is straight up one of the most powerful elements, what with being an ever-increasing dot tick as well as stripping 50% of armour over one second following initial application, it benefits massively both from armour getting stripped, as well as the bonus damage multiplier from viral. It innately helps itself with its own armour strip functionality, but Corrosive only makes it more potent, while Heat also makes Corrosive more potent as well.
    Now, this might not mean a whole lot if a decent portion of your weapon's damage isn't purely corrosive, as is the case with a good deal of your standard loadout, but there's a small number of them.
    For example, if you're using Excalibur's Chromatic Blade augment and literally all of your damage is Corrosive/Heat, and you're looking at 10 procs of Corrosive status and 1 proc of Heat status, then *97.5%* of ferrite armour has vanished from Corrosive damage calculations. A level 180 Corrupted Heavy Gunner is basically tissue paper at that point, and is honestly likely to be dead long before you even apply all 10 stacks of corrosive.
    Obviously this is less effective against Alloy armour, but 90% armour stripping ain't too shabby regardless -- while viral/heat will kill bombards faster, corrosive/heat will kill heavy gunners WAY faster, and maybe it's just me but I feel like I see those more often, on top a corrosive/heat-centric Chromatic Blade outright one-or-two-shotting a bunch of ferrite-armoured mooks even at those levels.
    Some of the funkiest weapons, though, are those that have innate viral or corrosive already. Scourge, for example, is one of those weapons that can have Viral/Corrosive/Heat, one of the most devastating combos in the game for armoured enemies, and is patently hilarious as a result. Bubonico is in a similar camp with its alt-fire having innate viral.

    I think there is one specific stance of the corrosive vs viral dillema you didn't look at: Shotguns.
    Shotguns can make use of Primed Charged Shell, a very powerful elemental damage mod that can be used for corrosive damage, but not viral. I wonder if viral would still be the better choice in such circumstances?

      In this case, it's also worth considering Viral is even stronger on rifles, since we have Primed Cryo in that case.
      It's fascinating how complicated the varied circumstances can be, and ultimately in a game this complicated there will always be edge cases, videos like this lay out the ground rules for how to do the math, and how that applies to most cases. Plus, you have 3 weapon slots (one for each damage type), and a companion that could be modded to use a Viral Verglas while you run Corrosive+Slash, or a Blast+Corrosive Verglas while you run Viral+Slash. The argument is rendered moot by the simple fact that there are many ways to use both elements at the same time.

Without complete armor strip, rather than using status hose weapons to sustain 80% armor strip, it is easier to use armor strip skills incl bastille, shuriken/link augments etc, while freeing mod slots for viral damage (and procs) instead.

    there does exist weapons with innate viral thus need no viral or more specifically panzer kavat which can effectively apply 10x viral procs to the entire map that do push damage in favor of running corrosive or just pure heat alongside the meta slash *or faction damage modding*
    ...and seriously use panzer if you aren't using smeeta for loot, its the strongest battle companion for so many reasons right now, applying 10x viral procs to every enemy, gives melee combo or sniper combo for hitting both the spore and enemies, gives hunter recovery healing for every spore ticking on the map, can't be permanently killed because panzer and frees up an element to allow different elements to be used
    also infested in missions outside of deimos CAN have armor, but its not generally an issue since its only under the specific circumstance where they pass through a swarm mutalists cloud of flies though its not generally much of an issue

    Great video. I did learn details abotu a few things i didn't have accurate data on. The whole demolisher thing for example, thank for that^^
    However, there are a few things i'd like to point out which i think the video should have or could have mentioned.
    From the video, it initially seems that even specifically against grineer it all boils down to the inability of corrosive to handle alloy armor after all, as those select few grineer that posess this armor type do prove rather hard to kill with corrosive, as the armor reduction of even 80% at 10 procs becomes irrelevant at some point.
    You prove to us that viral in conjunction with slash is more effective as although it falls behind against ferrite armor, it can handle them as well as any other enemy "good enough".
    Since we're talking about combined elements, wouldn't it be only fair to also talk about combinations of corrosive with other elements as well?
    IF we're talking alloy armor, the main problem would be that you cannot use corrosive in conjuction with a damage type that's good against alloy armor as both corrosive and radiation require electricity as the base element. The only other option is to use cold which has a minor 25% modifier against alloy, but that doesn't really cut it.
    The again, the story changes on weapons with innate radiation damage, such as for example the staticor or any Kuva weapon with the right progenitor warframe to get radiation. This dynamic also applies to weapons with innate corrosion, on which you can mod radiation for the same all-star combination.
    Then, another major point would the be the very nature of slash as a DOT.
    While it's just really anticlimactic to stop shooting an enemy only to see them stand there for a few seconds until the DOT does it's work, time to kill itself as well as ammo efficiency also factor into the decision which element to use.
    The next major point would be priming the enemies themselves with one of the aforementioned elements.
    The Panzer Vulpaphyla specifically will proc viral on basically every enemy on the map for the entire mission - even while it's dead (which it won't stay for long as it always revives itself after a minute). If you're running around with that thing in tow then the decision changes: Use Corrosive and ridiation to straght up annihilate anything upfront or proc slash to wait for them to die - again, radiation on one weapon and corrosive on the other, or even both on the same weapon will usually obliterate anything.
    Last but not least: acolytes. all of them sport ferrite aromor. So far, corrosive seems to be the best element to have on your weapon to kill them, as one of their traits is that they cannot take more than 4 status procs of any status at the same time. as soon as 4 viral and slash are applied, no further procs can be stacked. This renders them virtually immune to any DOTs... so upfront damage it is.

    I think Zariman Thrax turn the conclusion of this video on its head. Corrosive is much better against them than Viral Slash. I have tried this with Titania and Dex Pixia. Without Arcane Pistolier, it takes multiple magazines to kill a Thrax with viral and slash, while with corrosive they can be killed in one magazine. It is hard to control things due to the heckikness of the mission, but this seems to hold true.
    I think this is because their armour is so high it trivializes the slash damage on the procs, but I would be curious to see the math on it. Keep in mind common enemy level for this scenario is 200+ with matches with a good team going to enemy level 1000+.
    Also as a note, Unairu shouldn't be declared the default choice for every build, so the instant armour stripping isn't a given.

    To those wondering here we go:
    Heat+Viral= easy use on weapons that prioritize slash in IPS and on lower armored target including lower levels, also on melee that use "Shattering Impact".
    Heat+Corrosive= Best used on targets above a certain armor threshold in terms of levels and targets that have higher armor scaling than health, i personally run the Phantasma and prioritize this combo with 3 dual stats blaze and a 90% heat mod and feel like it's the best shotgun/GUN behind the Cedo (Cedo is a cheat code).

    This is why Viral killed corrosive:
    Viral isn't enough vs Corrosive.
    But if you put Viral and Fire element it beats it.
    Fire status reduces armor by 50% for a short time, which make a great exchange for corrosive, and you can still build for Viral status.
    Viral is worse against infested health, but Viral also increase damage, so you still get around double damage at 10 stacks. And there aren't mutch infested that have armor, and also infested doesn't have shields.
    This all is just complicated with all enemy material types, you just have to know it, instead of look at enemy health color bar and switch weapons.
    It would be nice to have full arsenal on each enemy material type, primary, secondary and melee. But it's just too complicated.
    I hate to switch builds everytime I go somewhere like in Monster Hunter or Dauntless. I prefer to just have universal build, which in this case like in Warframe just having all weapons build with different statuses would be great, to see enemy with different health color bar and just switch from Primary to secondary or use melee. Each enemy would require to use different weapon.
    You would not need to change loadout every time you go to a different faction mission.
