You are so right. My attitude going into decluttering was always negative, "what can I get rid of? " Now I will approach it with a positive approach, "What do I want to keep!" That makes such a difference, thanks!
I will try this. I always focus on what to get rid of and I don’t get to far before I walk away unsure of what to keep and let go of. I think this may make a difference for me too.
I can relate to years of decluttering and I was really just moving stuff around, then it would get mixed up and I would be starting again. Now I have a box by the door that goes out monthly for donations.
I was just thinking about that the other day! I have been decluttering since August. I went from feeling like we don’t have enough to have having a feeling of abundance! That we have more than enough, because we are able to give so much away. It’s wonderful
I used to buy decorations then put them in the closet until I had time to set them out. I'd see something else and would buy it too. I'd feel overwhelmed with so many choices that I didn't use any of it. I've decluttered a lot of things lately and have bought a few decorations that I've combined with what I already owned. I've created vignettes in several places and feel more confident and peaceful than any other time in my life. Thank you for inspiring me to let go and go on. Smiles...
Thank you so much for sharing and supporting us! I'm so glad to have found you and your channel and thanks to The Minimal Mom (Dawn) for asking you to be a part of the group in January. I love your common sense approach and the way you drive home the important points.
This helps so much! It reminds me of going to Disneyland. I often see adults there (without children) lugging full backpacks around. I am usually there from 6:30am-10pm, five consecutive days. I walk from my hotel and average 10 miles each day. I’ve learned to fit everything I need into my pants’ pockets. Nothing to carry! I don’t even bother with a jacket unless it’s pouring rain or under 60 degrees. I’m going to think about my house this way! Only keep what I need so I can be free to have fun!
Thank you so much for this advice.... I have spent the afternoon sorting out Mum’s books so that I could put mine away. I packed then in 4 small Amazon boxes because it was what I had. I can’t make the decision about them know as I need to get them valued first and we are on lock down.....well just coming out. But more pertinent to your video...I went and got my whole draw full of post it notes and put them in the charity bag which goes to the hospice. I thought I would use them when I left work and had time to organise but I prefer to use a notebook... you were spot on! Sally
Rachel.. thanks .. I dont know how many times I watch your videos over and ovee again.. just because it energizes me to keep going... today.. another 2 big boxes of clothes have to go.. my husband is seeing the progress around and he supported me on throwing stuffs we dont use though there are still some things he kept for memory sakes of his childhood and grandmas love.. but still hoping that one day he will be ready to let it go😅 its not a lot though
You make so much sense and inspire me. I actually have a collection of writing paper as well which I thought I had culled down as much as I could but there is still more than I can probably use in my lifetime - and I also am just as likely to write my letter on sticky notes if they're closer to hand when the urge strikes. I love my papers but do I have to keep them all JUST because they're nice paper? Nope. I don't have to own everything. Haha.
Great video!! very helpful, I just need to decide where am I going, what is it what I want in my life as a mother of 3 and then decide what I need, thank you
It was 46 post note pads of varying sizes- why......? I kept 2 - 1 opened and 1 new but if I don’t use them by the end of the year then they will go too... thank you again
What about seasons of life... You may not be using an item or collection in this season (for example, as a mom of young kids) but when they're older you'll be able to use xyz and it wouldn't have been easily replaceable...
Sewing machine & Totes of vintage fabric from grandma - (true story), camping supplies - tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, etc -replaceable but would be expensive (also true story)
If you have that much GOOD storage space, lucky you. But I've seen so many things stored for years and they are unusable when they are finally pulled out. And many of us value room to live in our home NOW than to "maybe" use things later. I say this from experience since I became a widow and disabled within a few years and lost my house. No storage space and a lot of dreams had to change.
I'm going to try to declutter my children's baby clothes. My daughter was my parent's first grand baby and they couldn't stop gifting me with baby clothes. Some still have tags on them because they overbought. I have over 9 huge Rubbermaid boxes full of baby clothes from 0-24 months. I am so overwhelmed. They take up our guest bedroom closet. Should I go box by box? Or should I Marie Kondo them all at once? I'd like to get it done this month. I'm not done having kids so what should I keep? Any advice helps.
I would probably Marie Kondo it- get it over with! LOL You already know what you used, taking some time to write out what worked for each size. And focus on keeping the practical ones, like the sleepers and gender neutral, because grandparents are likely to buy cute outfits for the next child as well. Then for everything else, take them to your local consignment shop and hold onto the credit for the next child. Honestly, you could do that with all the clothes, then you wouldn't have to sort and you can just shop there when you actually need it! (Do make sure the credits won't expire before the next child joins the family.) For me, the fewer hand-me-downs the better. I always forgot what I had, so I opted to use a consignment shop and never store things. ❤️
UPDATE: got rid of 4 garbage bags full of baby items. And one huge Rubbermaid container. Im not even going to go through Once Upon a Child. One less headache.
My daughter was storing 9 boxes of baby girl clothes in my loft unused for years, I took them all to a local baby bank, there are so many families in need at the moment, they were so grateful.

Your home feels so incredibly restful.

Hi, love your mindset, but what if you love your stationery collection? And have been collecting since the 1960’s? Asking for a friend 😉
🥰 You should watch my fantasy-self video... I love stationery too. 😁
Great video! 🌹

That's so great Sally!! Isn't it funny what we keep?! Now you have a whole drawer to organize thing you DO use! ❤️

Well, what can you think of that wouldn't be easily replaceable?

@@Nourishingminimalism Thank you for the advice. I hope to tackle it all this weekend. Or whenever I have some free time.
