    IMO...Ardyn won in the end, he got all that he wanted, he wanted revenge on the ones who wronged him ...yup he got that, he wanted to die, yup he got that too, and his original objective before he got shafted, he wanted to save the world from demons, and he got that too as he led noctis to becoming the true king.

      I absolutely agree. That said, I would also kill for a prequel game to see how his story started, now that we've seen how it ended. I mean, really.. for me Ardyn was the main character of the game. Noctis just came along 2000 years later to finally give him the peace and the rest he deserved.

      I've seen Kingsglaive, but that's not the kind of story I want told. I want to know more about 2000 years ago when the Starscourge happened, when Ardyn was a healer, and before he got screwed over. I want to know the details of THAT story. It's unlikely to ever happen, but a girl can dream. :)

    I got the impression that Ardyn's ultimate goal was not only revenge against the betrayers, but also for him to finally die. Ardyn knew that the only way he could die is from the kings, but in killing him, the betrayers line would also end.

    +Final Fantasy Peasant
    I agree with most of your ideas but here’s my take on Ardyn and the whole story (I wrote this quickly, it may be long but stick around, it'll be worth the read):
    Ardyn is not the villain of the game but he’s the antagonist. He’s not truly evil nor does he want vengeance. He just want to get rid of the scourge that has plagued the world and kill himself to end his suffering.
    Before reading, remember the quote in Final Fantasy versus xiii: “There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.” -- William Shakespeare
    Final Fantasy XV still kept this idea.
    So here’s what I understand, Eos is the goddess who created humans and since Ifrit wasn’t quite fond of the humans, he released the star scourge or the plague of the stars into the world and upon the humans. In order to protect the humans, Eos sent Bahamut and Shiva and the other Astrals to the world of Eos. And to protect them, Bahamut gave his power, which is to summon swords and use the power of light, to a chosen one. Shiva was in charge of choosing the oracle to help stop the scourge. And somehow they both came and chose Ardyn Lucis Caelum as the “first” chosen one to rid Eos of the scourge, which we see on the cover of the Cosmogony book telling the story of the first “king” of light. The person on the cover has to be Ardyn because in the art book that came with the ultimate edition, there’s two pictures that depict a person who has the power of the oracle absorbing demons and cleansing people of the scourge and was hailed as the savior while walking down the street on his Black Chocobo (and it has to be Ardyn’s black chocobo because his outfit has black feathers on his left arm and that’s the only reason why he would have black feathers on his outfit -- probably as a memory of his last true friend who stood by his side till the end). So, Ardyn is the first “unofficial” King of Light or the chosen one who has both the powers of the Lucis Caelum and the Oracle (it was also pointed out near the end when he fought with Noctis and said “...but you are only the second choice at best” -- meaning that Noctis was the second chosen one but Ardyn was the first). He also mentioned that he was betrayed by “...a jealous king, one who was not yet chosen by the crystal,” which I’m thinking that he could be his brother whose name could be Izunia Lucis Caelum (or cousin but I’m leaning more towards brother because you might not kill you brother but you might kill your cousin lol). And the reason why Izunia is not a surname is because the power of light is passed down through the family, which is emphasized a lot through the game and movie, and there is no good reason why Bahamut would bestow his power on a different family than the same, current family. Because if Ardyn was truly benevolent then there is no reason for Bahamut to doubt Ardyn’s brother to be a good candidate as well. And it would be good to keep the power to only one family rather than two because as a god/astral who can bestow such a great power to humans, why would Bahamut create more imbalance in the world or cause more problems in the world. Remember, what is Bahamut’s true mission: to get rid of the scourge, not saving just one’s life but saving humanity as a whole. So by choosing just one family as a sacrifice (fyi what Noctis did at the end which ended the family but got rid of the scourge) the problem is solved within the family itself. In addition, it is known in the omen trailer that Bahamut can foresee the future, so in this case, he probably knew how to get rid of the scourge even before choosing Ardyn and needed two people to sacrifice themselves (Ardyn and Noctis). Bahamut and Shiva choose Ardyn to cleanse the people of the scourge by absorbing all the daemons into himself (in one container -- sad fate but the truth). And Ardyn can’t become king because if he is immortal who will end his burden. So here is where his brother Izunia comes in. Bahamut and Izunia probably talked and Izunia agreed, not to just help Bahamut but also to help his dear brother to end his suffering. But in order for Izunia to become king, he needs the people’s help so he demonized and ostracized Ardyn by claiming that Ardyn is now a daemon, which would led people to hate Ardyn but choose Izunia who had just as much credibility to be king since he is Ardyn’s brother. So in Ardyn’s eyes, it seems like Izunia is jealous of him and wants to be king, but probably in truth, Izunia just wants to free his brother Ardyn from a never ending burden. Because Izunia knew from the meeting with Bahamut that the only way to free his brother Ardyn from the curse is to have another chosen one to end Ardyn’s curse. And Bahamut can’t choose Izunia as the chosen one because it takes 2000 years (2000 years because Ardyn said he waited that long for his “supposed” vengeance) for the crystal/Bahamut to absorb enough light in order to choose another one as the King of light and get rid of the scourge. But Bahamut probably had enough to bestow the power to Izunia so that 2000 years later, someone from their family line can save Ardyn from the burden and end the scourge. And that 2000 years later just so happens to be during Noctis’s time.
    The reason Ardyn is not evil or would not want vengeance is because the king is his brother who he loves dearly. If Ardyn truly wanted vengeance he would have done so 2000 years ago during the time when Izunia was trying to take his throne since Ardyn still has the chosen power from Bahamut. Or he could have done so many, many times throughout the Lucis Caelum family line, but he didn’t. He was truly a saint (in the art book he was depicted kind of like Jesus who sacrifice himself for our sins -- aka daemons/scourge in FFXV). To further proof why Ardyn was not evil or even the villain in the game, throughout the game he helped led Noctis to gather the powers of the astrals (specifically the Titan but indirectly with the other astrals, for example Leviathan -- there was a part where he said he knew how to get into the “covenant” with Leviathan but we weren’t given much more info -- and could explain how Ignis got blind), captured Prompto but didn’t kill him, and at the end, he could have just killed Gladio, Ignis, and Prompto but didn’t again. Plus, you might also say that he brought Ifrit to Noctis purposely so that Noctis can finish Ifrit who started the whole problem in the game (because if you think about it, if it wasn’t for Ardyn, how are you going to find Ifrit in the game and finish him off or even getting rid of the scourge?) Also people questioned why he didn’t have a “final form” or used the daemons inside of him to fight Noctis at the end, but this could be because he didn’t want to kill Noctis but let Noctis kill him instead. He just wanted Noctis to end the scourge and end his suffering. And in order to do that, he needed to lit the fire in Noctis by making Noctis hate him. However, you might argued that Ardyn was evil since he indirectly killed Luna (Luna was ultimately killed by Leviathan from drowning -- it was said in the game) but he had to do this because Luna was keeping the daemons at bay by absorbing the scourge into herself and cleansing others. If he kills Luna, the world would turn dark and there would be a reason for Noctis to kill him (after Luna dies, Noctis and his friends learned that the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer). If Luna is alive, then Noctis does not have to kill himself in order to kill Ardyn. Luna could just keep absorbing the scourge and there would not be a big problem with the scourge yet. So Ardyn has to kill Luna in order for his plan to work, which is to end his suffering and the scourge. If there was any evil, he was choosing the lesser evil or forced to (many people think he won at the end by eliminating the Lucis Caelum family and fulfilling his calling, but I think the Gods are the one who won in their mission).
    For those who are wondering where Niflheim fits into the story, Niflheim is just an asset for Ardyn to achieve his plan by making the problem bigger. Niflheim exploited the power of the scourge by using the daemons for their magitek technology but at the end, they ultimately failed and the emperor was turned into a daemon (aka Foras). They were also the one who forced Regis to follow through Noctis’s fate by attacking Insomnia and other countries. Niflheim never was the main problem of the story. It was never about reclaiming the throne.*cries* It was about cleaning after the Gods’ mess.
    This is my take on the story. I think the story is really deep and dark but needs more appreciation. Please share this hypothesis if you like it.

    So, after Episode Ardyn DLC we can actually confirm that the theory of "Noctis Izunia" is a false claim. Lucis Caelum is a Royal Family name, and Ardyn's brother's name was Somnus Lucis Caelum.
    So who's Izunia? Episode Ignis has a line from Ardyn that is mistranslated context-wise, but roughly in japanese translates to "You'll never guess what Izunia is", pretty much meaning that it was just a makeup name just like "Adagium" moniker for Ardyn.

  • @OracleGrouse
    @OracleGrouse 8 лет назад +38

    Actually when Ardyn talked about Gentiana's face was it was about the day she died. They censored that in English for no apparent reason.
    And Ardyn Lucis Caelum was his "formal name" according to the Japanese dub. Meaning that Lucis Caelum is a title not a proper family name. He also said he did not remember where he took Izunia from but it might be a reference to the word "iizuna", a weasel in Japanese. Quite fitting.

    To be honest, I never even considered the possibility that the first king was anything other than Ardyn's brother. That's really the only way his anger makes sense. He wasn't just cast out by society and an imposter, he was cast out by his family. That type of betrayal is probably the hardest to get over. Then having to watch his brother take all the glory that should have been his, watch his nephews take the glory that should have been his sons', it is no wonder he has such hatred for his brother's bloodline. I never would have come up with the imposter theory had I not heard other people talking about it.

    It is Noctis lucis Caelum, think of it, the facts are at hand, how should noctis have the ability of summoning Armiger weapons just like ardyn? Armiger is a bloodline gift, also if anyone did play it with german subs, if you had payed attention while watching the paintings of the Prophecy you can read that Gladio is saying he could not believe how someone like Ardyn is a Member of the Royal Family, because of Noctis mentioning that Ardyn should have also bee on that painting. So i think izunia may be his little brother, that after ardyn was rejected from the Astrals and crystal because of his tainted soul after becoming Immortal, was choosen from the Astrals to safeguard him until the arrival of the promised true King, and not taking the Throne out of jealousy like Ardyn said to Noctis

  • @kitmichaels5223

    So kind of a long theory but what if Ardyn was the King of Solheim (translation: "Home of the Sun"). The Starscourge of course is the darkness that brings about the demons. However, if we look at it metaphorically, this is the process of where the "sun" is literally setting. So we see that in this process the God's bestowed Ardyn (who if we look at the latin meaning of Ardin = "Fiery") with the ring of the lucii (or the "ring of light" to the lucis caelum or "enlightened sky/heavens" lineage).
    The ring of course has the power to absorb light from organisms. We know this because the ring's power in the game is "death" which is basically the skill that absorbs an enemies life force and heals the wielder. And also Bahamut basically says you need to absorb the entire light of the crystal (i.e. its soul). Ardyn, was both Oracle and King (which is perhaps why he also has the trident in his royal arms - maybe this was his weapon which Shiva bestows on us). But as we know, Ardyn absorbed too much evil and basically went mad.
    He says though that it was a "jealous king," Izunia, who basically turned him into a deamon. This person was fickle that he wasn't chosen by the Crystal to be its bearer of light and basically turned Ardyn into an actual deamon. And so Ardyn Lucis Caelum became Ardyn Izunia (Izunia = Oath), or a "Fiery Oath".
    We know that Shiva = Gentiana, which also means "Healing flower." Which makes a lot of sense then if we look at it metaphorically. Shiva gave the house of fleuret (flowers) in the land of tenebrae ("shadows/darkness") the power to prevent darkness from completely enveloping the land. But NOT returning light to eos (the "Dawn"). What prevents the darkness from completely enveloping the night? - The moon! (LUNA). So when Luna dies. We see the acceleration to the whole "darkest before the dawn analogy." NOT necessarily before Gaia or Ramuh disappears. The fact that Shiva is still around and night is still there provides sufficient proof to the idea that the Gods were preventing the darkness. (What the Gods do represent -> Gaia = Earth, Ramuh = Sky, Leviathan = Seas, Bahamut = Sun, Shiva = Moon, Crystal = soul of Eos, or soul of the "dawn" or beginning of life itself, Ifrit = A total dick). And perhaps why Luna was dying rather than becoming evil was because she had the ability to use the light inside of herself to purge demons from people with her actual life force. But the oracles in general would be those that symbolize the house of "night flowers" (or a poetic way to say the "moon") from Tenebrae (or darkness).
    Also, Nadir also means, "observer/zenith," which we might assume is referring to bahamut who "descended from the stars" to give the crystal. And what if the whole "archean's call soliloquy" by Ardyn was actually him saying how he didn't listen to Titan telling him of Ifrit's plan....what if Ifrit is actually Izunia, and Ardyn simply called himself Ardyn Izunia because he was slave to the spite of Ifrit. Prompto and gang make reference to the fact that its simply been spite that's been keeping Ardyn going this whole time. Essentially the Usurper fucked the Gods plan to give the King the ability to banish the darkness and they have now the Usurper and the Immortal Accursed.
    What keeps bugging me is the "Omen" trailer that isn't "satisfied." Almost like he's talking to the soul of Ardyn. Which would make sense. What if the Lucis lineage were all those who could never "rest." They were all cursed with "Insomnia." Forced to bear the darkness within themselves, giving up countless lives for the King that would end it all to defeat Ifrit and his Accursed servant. What if this was the curse of ALL lucis kings? That they defeat a great darkness only to have Ardyn ask in the end "So what will you do? Banish me and bring peace?" And instead of the typical "It's not me who was chosen" and the cycle just repeats itself until you have the King of Night allow Ardyn to "rest in peace, forevermore" just as the prophecy Luna mentions before she was killed ("all those enthralled in darkenss shall know peace") as well as his forefather's, essentially being the "cure for insomnia," (no more ring, no more guarding crystals, etc). Which is why at the end you see Luna and Noctis actually SLEEPING.

      What confuses me is that Ardyn was never mentioned again as the first king nor the hero after he was branded as a deamon. We have to assume that no one in the present knows about his true Identity, and the people who would know best (The last king and those before him) are dead. It's more like he wants to be forgotten, and for his suffering as an Immortal to end. All in all, this game basically gave more reason as to why I don't want to be immortal.

    Ardyn Lucis Caelum is officially the start of the Lucis Caelum bloodline and Noctis Lucis Caelum is the end of the bloodline (Meaning that it was Ardyn's son that betrayed him or Grandson). Square Enix has released a official family tree. It is in the Collecters edition strategy guidebook. Not sure about the standard version. With a straight line to Reigus and Noctis. Even Noctis Mother is pictured. With all the links if you get things mixed up. Read the guidebook it explains the both families linage and alliances. connects to A Kings Tail Final Fantasy XV also.

    This is great. I think a big part of Ardyn's plan is also that he wanted to die. He was immortal who was alive for far too long and he knew that only the true king had the ability the kill him that's why given his many chances to kill Noctis, he chooses not to and waits until he became the true king. Either way, the story ended with Ardyn winning. He wanted revenge on the Astrals, he wanted to end the Lucis Caelum bloodline, and he wanted to die.

  • @DevilHunter1994
    @DevilHunter1994 8 лет назад +34

    Actually I don't think Ardyn achieved his full goal. He did come close though. Remember his anger wasn't just toward the Lucis family line, but also the gods who turned their backs on him. He wanted revenge on them as well. It seemed to me at the end of the game that he was getting ready to return to the world of the living after Noctis has sacrificed himself. This is why he's bowing to Noctis at the end as though he's about to take his leave and then starts to turn his back to him. It's also why he's shocked when Noctis begins his counter attack. Ardyn wasn't ready for it. He thought he would wait for Noctis to die and then return like always to rule on his throne once more. Only this time there would be no King of Light to stop him. That would have been his ultimate victory. Noctis would have sacrificed himself believing he had just saved the world and fulfilled the will of the gods, only for Ardyn to come right back and once again trap the world in eternal darkness. The prophesy would have been undone and the gods along with the line of Lucis would have been totally defeated. Ardyn would have reclaimed his throne and ruled the world of darkness for all eternity. Unfortunately for Ardyn, things didn't quite work out the way he hoped. Noctis and the former Kings still managed to overcome him in the end.

    Your missing a few things:
    Basically when they die their souls go to the Astral Plain. Arden needed destroying in both the Human plain, then his true power (soul) needed destroying in the Astral plain.
    When Luna dies she goes to the Astral realm and Noctis temporarily joins her (i think his whole DREAM power that got completely left out of the story would've explained this)..and she gave him the Lucis Ring.
    Noctis is the only one powerful enough to absorb the crystals light without being harmed.
    That is the whole set up for the story. Thats why Noctis has the ring, so he can absorb all the power of the crystal into the ring. Then he can absorb all of the kings into the ring, then he sacrifices himself so that when he dies, he goes to the Astral plain wearing the ring. So basically he allowed the Ring/Kings/Crystal power to cross over to the Other side and destroy Ardens soul once and for all.

    • @FinalFantasyPeasant
      @FinalFantasyPeasant  8 лет назад +5

      I agree on all points, but the tight concept of an astral plain means one thing. The brothers died. If as you say Regis had to strike his son down to allow him to defear Ardyn once and for all on the other side, that implies death is the only way to get there. Though of course Noctis went there not in death. But as you say they could be Noctis' EXCLUSIVE power to enter the realm via his dreams. Nothing says the bros can do the same so they must be dead?

    • @pree76
      @pree76 8 лет назад +1

      Final Fantasy Peasant No they are in fact living, they must be. Noctis saw them off saying he left the rest to them and for them to walk tall, there's no need for them to have died unless it was old age but even then everyone doesn't reach the astral plane, it seems very different than the average afterlife. I believe what we saw at the end was a what if sort of deal "what if the two did get married and lived happily ever after" or it's simply Noctis' own personal afterlife in which they were created. Noctis' heaven

    • @Erotal

    It has to be Noctis Lucis Caelum because the crystal was bestowed to the 1st king(Ardyn) and the ring to his bloodline. Noctis and his ancestors would not have been able to wield the ring if they weren't of Ardyn's line.

    • @FinalFantasyPeasant
      @FinalFantasyPeasant  8 лет назад +9

      Well the thing is thats not quite true. It's not the ring itself that rejects the person, its the Lucii. Before this point there were no Lucii and no council to pass judgement. If it was true that the crystal decides who can wear the ring then Izunia would have burned because it says "the king was not annointed by the crystal". Therefore the possibility that Izunia stole it, was cursed to become a Lucii because of it and the Lucii formed a council to deny others taking what they had stolen is possible. BUT none of those kings were ever TRULY accepted by the crystal, hence why Noctis is the only one to ever be chosen

    Maybe it's because I'm late to the game, only having played it now, but isn't all of Ardyn's backstory already clear? He was supposed to be the King of Light. He healed the people infected with starscourge and absorbed the scourge into his body and thus, because his body was tainted, was rejected by the crystal. In his stead, his brother Somnus Lucis Caelum became king and continued the bloodline until Noctis was born. Ardyn became corrupted because of that and, as the "avatar" of the scourge, so to speak, became the one thing Noctis had to destroy. There is no single mention of someone else called Izunia, at least not that I can remember. If Ardyn had not been tainted by the scourge, he would be the king of light, and he would use his power to purge the scourge. The only difference is that during Noctis' time there was someone who "embodied" it.
    TL;DR:
    Izunia is just A RANDOM NAME that Ardyn took or came up with.

    I thought Ardyns immortality was connected to his bloodline. I got the feeling that in order to release Ardyn and end the star scourge which had binded to Ardyn , Noctus had to choose self sacrifice which would also save the world; rather than rule as an all powerful king as past kings had chosen.
    I get the feeling Ardyn kills Luna to prevent the cycle (his fate) from happening again to someone else.

    So my thoughts on the name question? I believe that Izunia was a given name rather than a surname. Not only does this theory add more weight to Ardyns's revenge plot, but it also makes more sense. at least to me. the way I see it, only those born in the Lucis Caelum bloodline have the ability to conjure weapons and blade warp. Ardyn being a L.C. is able to do so. Regis and Noctis are able to do so. It could be argued that the entire party can do so, and that the Kingsglaive could as well to an extent. But we know that the Kingsglaive received their power from Regis, and when he died, so too did their power. the reason Nyx needed the ring. I speculate that the only reason Gladio and gang can do so is due to Noctis. possibly a way that they knew he was still alive even after his 10 year absence. this explains a few different things that were never touched on in game. and just makes far too much sense to me the more I think on it

    Wrong. Noctis' family couldn't have been pretenders to the throne. Why? Because, if they had been, Noctis wouldn't have been able to wear his father's ring. Everyone who tried, that wasn't a member of his bloodline, died...Instantly. Hell, the only person who used its power, even for the briefest of moments, was that Crownsguard guy who went before the ancient kings, and entreated them for use of their powers. And even *He* died, when the fighting was done, and the kings took their power, along with the ring, away from him. There was no begging for Noctis. He simply found his way to his ancestors' tombs, waved his hand over them, and Presto!...Mythical Weapons. Not to mention the fact that, when Noctis finally rejoins the world after the demons have taken over, he looks just like his father.

    • @KingOfHalla
      @KingOfHalla 8 лет назад +1

      The crystal chose Ardyn and he rid people of the plague, becoming a daemon himself. "Izunia" shows up, and goes, "you, this guy is bad now" so the Hexathean punish him with eternal life and "Izunia" becomes chosen. Ardyn then broods for the next however many years. "Izunia", if thats the other guys name, no proof, is more than likely RELATED to Ardyn. Ardyn, Regis, and Noct can all use the Armiger, Noct only AFTER acquiring weapons of his ANCESTORS. Meaning it's most likely a blood-line deal. I feel like there is way too much reading into this being done.

    Thanks for the insight on Ardyn! I looked a bit more into it... from what I found, when Ardyn says "Guess who the real Izunia is", apparently there is a translation error and he says something along the lines of "How did I think of Izunia"... Izunia also comes from the Japanese word iizuna which means weasel. So I mean, either way, he could even just be making a jab at Noctis saying he was the real weasel for taking the title of King instead of Ardyn. This all makes more sense with your theory of Ardyn and Noctis being in the same bloodline.

    FFP, new subber here and I gotta thank you for this video explaining and theorizing on FFXV's ending. It helped close so many doors and questions that I'd had about the game. While I did enjoy it a lot, there was a good bit of the tale lost for me through my time with it, and I missed a lot of the subtext and story in the game while having a base understanding of most of the events, i.e. (part of) Ardyn's motivations, Noctis' sacrifice, and his true purpose, but hardly anything else you covered in this video. I felt that a lot of the things were poorly translated through the game's own dialog, and I may be alone in that, but either way this video helped me understand a lot about FFVX and how truly great of a title it is in the FF Mythos, which even before this video I held it in high regard. I've been wanting to replay it again to see what I missed and you've increased that desire with this and your other helpful explanations. Don't know if you'll ever read this comment, but you have my sincere thanks and a new sub, good sir. Thanks again!

      I don't recall anyone sitting on the throne. Throughout Chapter 13 you kept coming across piles of clothing. In fact, that was how you procured the keycard to access the facility, was getting it off a pile of military fatigues. But when you found your way to the throne, it was just the empty robes.
      As you ascended, there were many reports you could have interacted with that began detailing the backstory of the Magitek Troopers being experiments, led by Ardyn. TL;DR--Human subjects were transmuted into daemons, who were then imbued into the MT clockwork bodies, where they could be controlled. It was later that you found out the Diabolos daemon (or at least he looked a lot like Diabolos, it's been a while) you weren't able to kill, that was tormenting your ascent, turned out to be the emperor, who even managed to mutter some of the motivations of the emperor during the fight when you finally were able to put him down.

    Unless I missed something, the fact that Noctis' family uses the royal arms as Ardyn does strongly indicates that Izunia was Izunia Lucis Caelum by blood.
    If not, how do you explain the usurpers gaining abilities (royal arms, magic, elemancy) exclusive to the Lucii bloodline? They might've taken the throne but the abilities? We'd have to stretch pretty far to believe that instead of believing that Izunia was a blood relative.
    That said, I don't believe Ardyn was ever king! He calls Izunia a "jealous king not chosen by the crystal" which means Izunia was already king during Ardyn's time.
    I believe Izunia was Prince Ardyn's father. I also don't believe Ardyn to be a reliable historian regarding his past. I'm not convinced his father DID betray him - not the way Ardyn remembers it.
    Rather, Ardyn became incredibly corrupt (emotionally, mentally, spiritually, etc.) and his father reacted to that corruption as did the gods by rejecting him. Bahamut's telling of events seems to imply this instead of the victim narrative that Ardyn believes in. And this also seems to mesh well with King Regis' omen about who Noctis might become as the Chosen.

    • @ChristopherEdwards
      @ChristopherEdwards 8 лет назад +15

      Also, in regards to the idea that Ardyn was the first Lucis Caelum and Izunia stole the throne, this wouldn't have been 13 kings ago...it would've been 113 kings ago. King Regis was the 113th King of Lucis.
      It seems to me that Ardyn wasn't the first Lucis king; he was the first Chosen king, the first King of kings, but he ended up being rejected and Noctis became the second choice. Ardyn actually remarks on this during their fight, mocking Noctis as the second choice.

    • @AtriasNaradan
      @AtriasNaradan 8 лет назад

      Here's how, Izunia stole the royal arms from Ardyn. As simple as that.
      Ardyn was chosen by gods/astrals, so it's within the power of those gods/astrals to chose another different human into the role, replacing Ardyn. It's very logical for Izunia to then stole Ardyn's family name and royal arms, to make it easier for people to accept him as the new hero, despite Ardyn great deed on saving human kind from Daemon corruption.
      It's also within a likelihood that Izunia was not just stealing, but downright posing as Ardyn. The name of the hero on the history was called Lucii, never known on their first name basis. This shows the possibility that what people know is Luciis Caelum the hero, not Ardyn Luciis Caelum. If we assume the possibility that people never saw Ardyn themselves, or if Ardyn and Izunia have a striking resemblance despite not being a relative, it's very possible for Izunia to assume the name Luciis Caelum and called Ardyn as Izunia. This can only be done with the astrals blessings, which we can see from the game, it can be gain and lose.

    • @AtriasNaradan
      @AtriasNaradan 8 лет назад +1

      Noctis is really a Luciis Caelum, because he's born with that name. So does Regis and most of their ancestors. The first ancestor not being a real Luciis Caelum doesn't change that Regis and Noctis are Luciis Caelum...just not one related with the first original Luciis Caelum.
      Secondly, the sure name could just be a gift from the astrals...as the name of any bloodline that's chosen by them to be hero and royal.

  • @RockstarAMG
    @RockstarAMG 8 лет назад +258

    Your whole theory is WRONG. Here is why - You can't steal the Lucis family name or the ring. Watch Kingsglaive, two unworthy people try to wear the ring, they get rejected and burned because the are unworthy and not family. Then Nyx tries to wear it, even though he is worthy, the Kings still reject him and instead offer him one day of use, which will cost his life the next morning.
    So it is literally IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to steal the Lucis ring or family name. Ardyn and Noctis are both related, they are both from the Lucis Caellum line. Noctis is not Izunia.
    Also, Ardyn says whatever he says about what happened to him. Take it with a grain of salt dude. We don't know the full story. He was "helping" people by absorbing demons into his own body. How do you know he didn't have an ulterior evil motive for doing that? Even if his intentions were purely good, absorbing demons into your body has to have some kind of ill affect, even an unintended one. Maybe the King at that time was right to persecute against Ardyn, maybe there was a good reason.
    Lastly, Ardyn is hundreds, maybe even thousands of years old, but he is NOT the first King. He didn't even complete his ascension, he was rejected by the crystal before he could do that because of his demon absorbing and there was already a Lucis King at that time. If Ardyn is the first King, how could there already be a King before Ardyn even begins his ascension? Ardyn is old, but he is NOT the first King. Also, the first King was ACCEPTED/REWARDED by the Astrals and the crystal, NOT rejected. Ardyn was rejected. They are two different people.

    • @FinalFantasyPeasant
      @FinalFantasyPeasant  8 лет назад +36

      This isn't my theory, this is what is being discussed online. Thats point 1.
      Point 2 is you are actually wrong. The ring does not reject ANYONE. The crystal does not reject ANYONE. It is the Lucii council who do it! If they had decided ravus could wear it just like nyx he could have. So let's clear this up. A bloodline of people who are NOT chosen by the crystal (hence why noctis is the first after Ardyn), protect and pass judgement over the who wears the ring.
      While I stated clearly I believe he is still a Lucis Caelum, you are wrong in saying it is IMPOSSIBLE for them to be unchosen imposters. Its actually very very possible youve just got confused on who passes judgment, a pretty big factual error bruh

    • @RockstarAMG
      @RockstarAMG 8 лет назад +15

      Final Fantasy Peasant Never said the ring rejects anyone, clearly wrote the Kings do the rejecting when the wrong people try to wear the ring. First paragraph. Read again.
      "Rejected by the Crystal" is an actual quote from the game, that's why I wrote it like that, I know it's the Astrals and the council of Kings who decide who is worthy or not.
      In the case of Nyx, I clearly said that despite him actually being worthy, the Kings still rejected him but allowed him to wear the ring for one day but told him it would cost him his life. So anyone not from the Royal Bloodline cannot wield the full power of the ring, they will die almost immediately. This is further confimed by Regis when he says the Ring draws from the life force of the wearer to provide them power. Clearly someone not of the Royal line cannot withstand this. Only the Lucis Caellum family can and even they get weaker, as the years pass. Again all confitmed by Regis.

    • @FinalFantasyPeasant
      @FinalFantasyPeasant  8 лет назад +10

      no not confirmed by Regis. When Regis talks about the ring draws from the life force that is what the ring does to both worth and unworthy holders. The ring ages you, thats nothing to do with selection.
      But everything you say about 'its not possible for someone else to wear the ring' is just not true. We have PROOF that the ring only burns people through the decision of the Lucii, not the ring itself. Therefore the question is, if there were no Lucii, what proof do you have the ring would burn someone ever?
      We don't.
      Hence when Izunia took the ring it was at a time there WERE NO Lucii. He was a jelous king unchosen by the crystal yet he was still able to use the crystals magic. Any notion the ring rejects unworthy wearers just is not backed up by a shred of evidence in the game or movie. Regis quote doesnt support the idea either.

    • @RockstarAMG
      @RockstarAMG 8 лет назад +19

      Final Fantasy Peasant That's a pretty big leap of speculation on your part. Yes, Regis does confirm his life force draining as a cost of using the ring. Anyway, not trying to argue, just giving you the facts.
      What we know from Kingsglaive is that even when someone worthy, like Nyx, takes the ring, their life force is drained within a day, that's the cost someone who is not from the Lucis Caellum family line has to pay. They literally show us this. That's proof enough.
      So it would be impossible for any non-Lucis, even a worthy one, to wear it more than a day, let alone steal the whole family line.

    • @FinalFantasyPeasant
      @FinalFantasyPeasant  8 лет назад +7

      well the pretty big leap in speculation is right there. We dont know that Nyx lost his life through being drained by the ring the same as Regis. In fact that seems entirely wrong. Nyx dies because the sun comes up, a sideeffect clearly unrelated to Regis' aging by holding up the barrier.
      Nyx body literally reacts to the sun and causes him to disintegrate. Which is interesting because we also hear daemons cant be in sunlight.
      On the flip side because despite how it sounds I DO believe Noctis is a Caelum. Noctis gets the same sideffect of his body burning up like Nyx, but then he just seems to heal from it. So there is supporting evidence there that a Caelum can instantly recover from that burning up effect of overcharging the use of the crystals magic.
      But again, that seems to be a seperate side effect then the aging as it happens to noctis instantly and then he heals.

    Hey peasant. I have a FF topic that has always been on my mind. Regarding sephiroth in final fantasy 7. This insanity was triggered by discovering his true origin while exploring the library in the Shinra mansion.
    He was reading "the jenova project" and was horrified that he, himself was a monster. But does that mean he knows the whole truth? did he ever truly find out that he was the child of Hojo and Lucretcia? OR did he only know that he was an experiment made from Jenova cells? did he ever know the whole truth? if so, why would he continue to call Jenova his mother?
    it seems to me, that if he knew that he was, in fact human and not a monster OR an ancient; then he wouldn't have gone insane.
    btw sephiroth is my favorite final fantasy character ever so I would LOVE a video about this

    • @FFXDarkAuron
      @FFXDarkAuron 8 лет назад

      After he fell into the Lifestream/Mako Reactor above Nibelheim he gained massive knowledge about the World, so I would imagine he DID know about all that, but only AFTER he fell in the Mako Reactor. I don't remember Sephiroth still calling Jenova his Mother after he falls in the Mako Reactor, in fact, he uses Jenova's power to get what HE wants. He essentially gets a "God complex," and wants to rule, and uses Jenova to try and achieve this.
      I would love if peasant could make a video on this as well. He could probably explain it a lot better than I can.

      Hey Kelly, is is a great topic to discuss!
      Thing is Sephiroth WANTED to believe he was special and at the end of it all, he never fully says he knows who Lucrecia is. But realistically he must. Through his Jenova cells and the fact he knows Hojo is his father, logically Seph could figure out his mother may have been human. Thing with Sephiroth is I dont believe he wants to know. • @FinalFantasyPeasant
      @FinalFantasyPeasant  8 лет назад +106

      no i didn't. Ardyns motives are crystal clear, vengeance for the ones who betrayed him. I actually spent half the video discussing whether Izunia was a true king or an imposter. Good games leave open ended points to fuel and leave continued discussion. Whether Izunia was a relative or not is not a plot hole, just an interesting topic to discuss.

    • @bruno-santos-00
      @bruno-santos-00 8 лет назад +18

      A good plot doesn't need to be explained, let alone in a 20 min video. You can explain and discuss your interpretation of the story and it's meaning which wasn't the case here. Pes was mainly trying to explain plot holes like that whole Ifrit stuff for example.

    • @bruno-santos-00
      @bruno-santos-00 8 лет назад +16

      No, it wasn't the case here. You can explain and discuss an ending, the moral of the story. In here, he was objectively trying to explain WHY Ardyn was doing what he was doing, if the story didn't tell you that CLEARLY, it's a plot hole and bad writing. This is not Donnie Darko where you have multiple kinds of interpretation, this is a villain whose motives were kinda obscure and never really explained.
      "There are details in the game that allude to this" It supposed to be a story, not a puzzle to be deciphered. This game have 3 plots merged into 1. You have Luna and Noctis "love" story (never happened), You have the empire (they did absolute nothing relevant) and the bros friendship, only thing that kinda worked.

    So since there is so much left unexplained about Ardyn Lucis Caelum, I hope Enix makes a spin off, or separate game to explain what all happened to him. It seems like that may be what they end up doing and I say this because his role in the early and mid part of the game wasn't as big as it was towards the end, and ask yourself, "Why would our end-game antagonist be on the side throughout 2/3 of the game?" With that being said, I hope Enix makes a spin-off game to go more in depth into Ardyn's story and early life.

  • @AICW

    There is nobody named Izunia. The English translation took too many liberties and spawned this false theory. In Japanese (and German) Ardyn says he doesn't remember where he got the name Izunia from, and when he wonders this out loud, it doesn't sound sinister like it does in English ("You'll never guess where I got the name from") but more as a matter of fact, as in you can't guess where Izunia came from because he doesn't know either.
    Personally, I think it's Japanese wordplay that doesn't translate well. Izunia sounds very similar to _iizuna_ which is the Japanese word for a weasel, which is basically what Ardyn is, personality-wise.

      That's what I've heard as well, and it drives me crazy that people focus SO MUCH on the line about "who Izunia was" when it's just unfortunately vague wording from the English translation. It's also really annoying to look through old fan theories because so many people thought "Ardyn's brother is Izunia" when we now know (from Episode Ignis, I believe?) that Ardyn's brother and the first king was Somnus.

COLEMAN. smh, can't believe you overlooked this.

    Couple of thoughts while I try to digest the ending myself, and watching your videos...
    a) Interesting that Ardyn calls Noctis an 'imposter king' in Chapter 13 during his numerous chastisements while you do the level. Probably subscribes to the theories in this and your video on the ex-employee leaks that Noct's ancestors somehow 'stole' the throne and he felt cheated.
    b) Given the game pulls a lot on both Nordic and Greek mythology, do you think that Ardyn/the Lucis Caelum lineage is almost a Thor/Loki situation? He is chaotic, a menace (as was Loki), and believed he should have ascended as a true king (as did Loki), and felt he was cheated from the throne by a sibling (as did Loki)? Perhaps Ardyn or a Lucis Caelum ancestor were an adopted sibling? And that was the cause of the rift and animosity?
    As I say, idle thoughts while I try and work it all out.

    also I didn't think the last scene wasn't a "traditional" afterlife scene I feel it was more tragic than that, (coz tebata) I feel it was a gift from Regis to his son and Luna, it was a gift for them to finally share a moment before falling into a never ending sleep. this is what I took from it and I think it's fuckin beautifully tragic!

    This is my speculation:
    Ifrit loathe human feebleness thus he blessed them with his “fire”. His grace caused the prosperity of the civilization and not only that, he also husband to a mortal and creates a line of descendant. This is seen as an ultimate betrayal by his astral brothers and sisters. They killed his avatar in “revelation” and from its ashes the Starscourge originate.
    The astrals tired from their devastating battle proceed to their slumber but before that, their leader Bahamut granted, or cursed, Ifrit descendant Ardyn with a task and a ring. This task is to guard The Crystal ripped from Ifrit chest and the powerful ring, carved from The Crystal which permits its wearer to enter the Astral world and communicate with the “light”.
    Bahamut, unbending to Ardyn’s desperation plea, told him that he will see the end of his immortality when one of his descendants would be unhurt by the light of the crystal thus could absorb the light of each 112 Lucian kings to completely purge the scourge.
    The Crystal itself hurt Ardyn because the massive amount of scourge he absorb from the daemons he dispatched. Ardyn son, blinded then by the rings power and to his father affliction, managed to obtain the ring by usurped and demonized Ardyn… since then Ardyn has roamed the world of Eos, lonely and immortal, waiting the cure from his insomnia.

    *"May you two know happiness"*
    So I just finished the game about two days ago and though the ending is bittersweet and my initial thought was that everyone died, I'm now starting to have second thoughts. Not because I'm in denial. Not because I didn't accept the ending. But because of what King Regis is saying and how he's talking to them. We can all agree this isn't a typical FF ending. Everyone dies. It makes it all the more emotional when you feel a real emotional connection to the main characters. Surprisingly enough I thought this ending was great. If it ended on a happy note, I still would have been okay with it. This is one of those moments where both of these ending would've been acceptable to me.
    But that being said, I strongly believe there is going to be a DLC released in explanation to what all occurred in the 10 year gap that Noctis was gathering the crystal's power and the final scene in the spiritual realm just after Noctis falls on his back and his spirit disappears. It reminds me of FFX, VIII, and all the XIII trilogy. And as we all know with FF series, NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS And it's all in Regis's dialogue to them. The way in which he speaks to them. If they're all dead, why is he talking to them in some sort of faraway scope, looking down on them type stuff and wishing them well? I don't want people to think this is a rant, because it's not. It's more like a diagnosis. As much as evidence proves that everyone did indeed die and move on to the farplane or afterlife, there's also minimal evidence which speaks in GREAT VOLUME that that wasn't the case at all. And again, it's all in the way King Regis is talking to Noctis and Luna. Congratulating them. Wishing them well. It doesn't make sense to do that if they're all dead. It's as if King Regis and the other Knights or Dead Kings are rewarding them with life for all their sacrifice. That this dialogue doesn't take place necessarily in the scene we're seeing, but rather in the afterlife right before Noctis and Luna and maybe even the others are resurrected back to life. *"Thank you"* is what Noctis says to his father after those words. Again, it doesn't make sense to be talking to each other like this if you were dead. If that was the case, there would be no need for these words in the land of the dead where everyone is now reunited with one another and should be happy regardless of them being dead because they're all together no matter what.
    Watching the entire ending for the first time after I kicked Arden's ass, I was a filthy mess of emotions and tears and snot. But the only thing that stunted me, the only thing that made me stop and think was King Regis's words and the mannerism in which he spoke to Noctis and Luna. Because where does it make sense where they alone would have their own realm in the dead and be happy all together if Noctis also cared about his brothers in arms? I think it's also important that we reflect back on various hints throughout the game. No matter how small they are. For example, indications of Luna's wedding dress. Like how Prompto and Ignis were saying in Altissia that the wedding could still be on after everything was taken care of. It's in the small things here and there that keep me guessing and staying optimistic for every turn and possible outcome. I'm going to play it by ear and DLC but for now I will accept that they're still dead and found happiness together in the afterlife.
    What do you guys think? We all know the OBVIOUS outcome but what are some of your theories for other possible outcomes?

      yeah and I said I DONT think that is the option. There are forums posts discussing this and a HUGE point is people calling Noctis. Noctis Izunia. I simply adressed that point, explained its possibility and then gave the other option which I stated I think is more logical

      I dont make any assumption. I simply state the FACT that Izunia could either be a first or surname and what each entails. That's not assumption, Izunia is a personal pure and simple. As for the rest of the vid, thats just laying out the story as it is.

    I kinda found the real betrayal in ff 15 to be how ardyn was given power to save man kind, however that power was meant to save mankind and it did just not how they discribed to him how he used his power to save humanity was how he basically created noctis and max him worthy of the crystals power. I think he was never hateful or evil maybe spiteful but I think he learned his true power was to make the true king by being the trial for him.

  • @monochromehart

    The way I see it, Ardyn was just like Noctis. Both of them are chosen, to heal Eos. Ardyn absorbing myriad daemons, while Noctis absorb the Old Kings of Lucis. Ardyn was supposed to be dead like Noctis, but somehow he rendered immortal. I believe Ifrit has something to do with it, that damn traitor. Well, in the end... sweet Ardyn won. I smiled actually in the end game. He manage to achieve his goal, the end of Lucis royal bloodline and the crystal is destroyed... though, I personally dislike the end game video where Noctis is all happy and peaceful with Luna. So unfair...

    • @TheTinyTimmyTimTim
      @TheTinyTimmyTimTim 8 лет назад

      That endgame part alludes to an afterlife, which if it exists, noctis earned at that point lol.
      Even if insane, ardyn did far too much damage to deserve a happy ending.

    • @monochromehart
      @monochromehart 8 лет назад +3

      It's a happy ending for Ardyn, actually. He achieve his goal. I as his fan, only dislike the happy and peaceful Noctis with Luna. I know the wedding is happening in after life, and I still dislike it. It hurt my heart seeing Ardyn have to die twice, on Eos and on spiritual realm. Sorry, it's a fangirl ranting so better ignore it. I give my vengeance to them by chose Ardyn's photo for their wedding day. Hah!

    • @TheTinyTimmyTimTim
      @TheTinyTimmyTimTim 8 лет назад +4

      Estrella Lucis Izunia Well he got what he wanted didn't he lol? quite generous all things considered. It was hardly a happy ending for noctis anyway. Dude died a painful death, watched his fiancee die in front of him (by ardyn no less), and his reward is a slight afterlife before he ascends as a spirit of lucis.

    • @monochromehart
      @monochromehart 8 лет назад

      Yeah, at least Noct still have his spirit while Ardyn... #weep
      People say that they feel sad when Luna died, feel sad when see the end video. I cried when I have to kill Ardyn, twice. I literally cried. It's those Astrals' fault and the jealous king who made him like that, make a true monster of him... 😭😭😭

    • @nathandouglass6872
      @nathandouglass6872 8 лет назад +7

      From what I read, Ardyn was immortal because of the Deamons he absorbed.
      This is from the wiki
      "Ardyn absorbed countless daemons to save thousands across the world yet is denounced by the Astrals as unclean, denied entry to the Astral Realm demonized by a jealous king (Noctis' ancestor) who later becomes chosen by the crystal"
      He then vowed to kill the one true king, being Noctis.
      I agree, he had a sad story and he was living with this for 2,000 years, who wouldn't go insane and want to destroy the Lucis Bloodline?
      It seems like the the Astrals used him to stop the Starscourge and then he was tossed away like he was something of pure evil.
      In my opinion the true villain is Noctis's Ancestor because of his jealousy.

    I think my comment got deleted or something? Posting again:
    Thanks for this video Pez. We and the others over at /r/FFXV have been discussing this a lot....As for the question: Noctis Izunia or Noctis Lucis Caelum? I believe it is Noctis Izunia and there are quite a few reasons why.
    First, Ardyn's comment to Noctis after their battle at the citadel: "Now it is over, majesty. What will you do? Banish the daemons and bring peace? ERASE ME FROM HISTORY ONCE MORE?"
    ^^^ That right there. Erase me from history once more. They ostracized him, demonized him, and took his name. They (the gods) deemed him so impure of body and soul, and wished to wipe the star scourge and him from history completely and start over with a new King.
    Adding to the above, Ardyn says this to Noctis during their battle : "You're a second choice at best!" The Izunias were a second choice by the gods, but they wanted to erase Ardyn from history (the first time) so they gave the new line the name Lucis Caelum. It would seem like nothing ever even happened in the history books. Why else would Ardyn comment on being erased from history "once more"?
    I believe the gods (the 5 of the 6) decided to strip him of the name and grant it to the new chosen. It would just add to the bitterness Ardyn has, and it makes even more sense for him to take their name as an act of spite.
    Why? Because how fantastic is it for Ardyn that the name Izunia will now be known, after the timeline of the game, as the name of the one who brought darkness down upon the world? It is all part of his revenge: end the Izunia line, tarnish their name, and destroy the crystal.
    The Izunias/Izunia were/was jealous for not being chosen (out of jealousy or righteousness can be debated - we don't know...although the gods did agree that Ardyn was far too tainted to be granted ascension) - we know that much for sure.
    Another side note: it is interesting that originally the gods chose for the crystal bearer (Ardyn) to be both King and Oracle simultaneously. After stripping him of both the title and name, they split the duties between the Lucis Line (guard the crystal, special fighting powers) and the Fleuret Line (Oracle, ability to heal those affected by the scourge). This was probably a "we learned our lesson, let's do it right this time with two completely new families".
    -------------
    Sorry I know that's a lot but I strongly believe that Noctis and his ancestors were originally the Izunia line, and it just makes sense for the name swap to occur in both directions for the reasons stated above.

    Except Ifrit is on the poster. Barring Shiva(who has extenuated circumstances for her size), Ifrit is the smallest of the Astrals, not look carefully among the Daemons at the bottom. More specifically near to the center as though leading the charge but just a little off. That "minotaur" looking thing? Ifrit.

    • @cake6851
      @cake6851 8 лет назад +2

      DemonEyeX I mean that's debatable shiva is the smallest at the moment being a couple inches smaller than adult noctis. But when she was alive (which I don't know how she isn't) she was most likely as big as bahumut.

    • @DemonEyeXGamer
      @DemonEyeXGamer 8 лет назад +2

      Cake# That's why I said extenuating circumstances.
      Shiva in her original form was a freaking skyscraper.
      Doesn't change my premise of a possible Ifrit being among the daemons at the bottom.

      It is a shame the updates to story are after we played though the game, but it's better to get updates than to get nothing. I always play though my Final Fantasy games more than once so it's not a huge deal to me and FF15 will have a new game plus, so I assume you will get to keep your stats and so maybe it be easy to play though the story next time with out having to do the side quests. Plus it's easy to level up quick in FF15 if you know to save up exp and go to a posh hotels and the main story isn't hard at a low level.

      Dirqué P. Lmfao what? Square literally brought in enough money with 15 to just say "fuck you guys" and move on to 16, yet the fact that they're actually letting tabata finish the game to what he envisioned (hopefully) is something they didn't HAVE to do. 3 years wasn't fuckinggg enough for this game to be under development.

    also Izunia IMO was Ardyn's son/daughter, Izunia Lucis Caelum. betrayed by his own child, that sounds a lot more tragic for Ardyn.

      Yes Izunia was the king who banished him. But thats just is, Izunia was the one who took the throne of Lucis and founded Noctis' line! So Either Izunia stole the name or he was indeed related to Ardyn. A son/daughter is entirely possible, just as possible as a brother. Also Izunia BECAME a king after Ardyn, at the time it says he had not been appointed by the crystal. So Izunia whoever he truly is did not ascend to it rightfully, he betrayed his way to it

    1. Who are the corpse hanged at the throne room?
    2. Theories that Lunafreya may still be alive as no one uncover her body.
    3. There maybe a sequal concerning the return of the demon king that could die before ch 15. Lunafreya may play a role in returning to vanish him.
    4. When Noctis was taken by the crystal. Why did it take 10 years to return?
