@@wolfstyle8945 Bahamut orchestrated the events of Ardyn's life to not be chosen by the crystal like he was supposed to, leading to Noctis eventually becoming king. I forget the reasoning but he manipulated everyone. The final cancelled DLC was supposed to be Noctis, Ardyn, Lunafraya and Arenea vs Bahamut but as we know that never came to fruition

They did a great job expanding on his character with the final version of the game and dlc

Since I know it will be asked, YES I included relevant information from the anime and movie, YES the character DLCs are include, and NO I did not include the alternate endings or the events in the book (which are mainly non-canon anyway). Final Fantasy XV is one of my favorite in the series, as it arguably has done the best job of really fleshing the main cast and antagonist in such depth, that no other Final Fantasy comes close to how believably written this crew is (almost every RPG just focuses on just the main character for development, and everyone else maybe gets a sidequest or mini-arc). You FEEL the theme of Bonds. The theme of Fate is nicely handled here too, as so many times, the concept is approached as 'breaking free' of fate, and here, so many try and fail to thwart fate, mere pawns to its inevitability. Also, Hajime Tabata is at the helm of this one, so you can guess what will happen to the main character... Stellar art design, robust music (old and new tracks), and tight combat are all so well done. To be supported for 3 years after release with content is impressive too.

Oh you poor poor poor soul. If you think the this was one of the best ones for casting.. This game has so many holes, even with the DLC. Luna's arc was basically hacked away because it was too brutal, why wasnt there more on the starscourge, how did the empire manage to "kill" Shiva only to have her comeback? More info on Solheim? Why didnt Gladious ever comment that his dad died? Not to mention the whole afterlife aspect that was still left in from FFXIII-versus but not fully explained.
It was clear that this game was unfinished as they had to scramble and patch up the story afterwards. Also, character development should never..ever.. be relegated to DLC.. without it the side characters were just the smart guy, strong guy and the funny guy and nothing more. I think this was just a training game for FF7 remake.

Listening to this, I finally see that ff15's story is actually really compelling. On paper.
Save for some under utilized characters like Luna and Aranea, the story is actually really solid and msot of the characters great. The failings of the execution and pacing bogged it down though. I get that it's msotly due to the development hell and many changes in plans and directors but it still honestly saddens me.
I feel like if it were handled better it would have been considered one of the greats. The story was phenomenal. The game was just handled in a not-great manner. I didn't hate it, but I'm sad it wasn't as good as it couldve been.
I think we were lucky as FF fans to get what we got lol, which looking back was pretty good all things aside. Every FF has its quirks, pros, and cons I feel

It's a good game, it's just kinda sad that the original story got scrapped because the new story had to get explained from a bunch of movies, anime, and dlc (that wasn't even fully released).

Me too.I liked the hack and slash gameplay of it since I am not a fan of turn-based game.No offense but it hit me so much.And the ending is so sad.
Glad to hear you’ll be including all relevant information-which I assume includes explaining the dlc episodes in chronological order.
While I really did enjoy this game, I always thought that it could have been so much better but suffered due to poor execution as far as the presentation of the story. The main game alone felt like a book that had had full chapters torn out of it, and upon playing the DLC episodes as they were released, I found out where those chapters went... it still bugs me that there isn’t an option to just play the game start to finish with all of the DLC episodes just naturally woven in. Having to go back to the main menus and into a DLC menus for each individual chapter completely shatters any immersion that there could have been. For that reason, I imagine watching one of your recapitation videos with it all laid out in order would be a great way to really get a sense of how the story flows.
Even with the DLC baked in, there were still some glaring issues with the story. The game worked, until you turned on your brain.
You can thank the director of the game for that, he's a fucking mess.
He literally at 1 point demanded to change FF15 into a musical themes game instead because he enjoyed a musical.
no doubt this also played an huge role in why they decided to chop the story into bits and pieces.

i think it was one of the best games just poorly layed out. Game wise was better than most games.
The game was so boring, I kept on stopping playing in the middle of the game. Now I know what the game was about, thanks to Oni.
The story is actually really good when all put together. Square made the mistake of splicing too much into DLC, one of the most important events into a Movie, and additional character development into an anime rather than just giving one complete package right off the bat.
I think this game has an undeserved negative stigma because its initial release was missing so much. Hopefully, they learn from this and make the next entry as complete as possible.
Although I can safely say now that this game is deserving of the Final Fantasy title.

I don't care what some people say...i know it's not the game square promised us but i love the fucking lore. i just love the world of ff xv and it's characters. It will always be my favourite game of all time. I'm not saying that the game is perfect coz it's definitely not...there are way better games but when i play ffxv i absolutely love it.

I love FFXV, regardless of the hell it went through during it's development cycle. The bonds and personality the main cast of 4 have is great, the setting is rather nice, and the antagonist is pretty interesting as he achieve everything he wanted by the end of the game, making it a step up to Kefka who had his godhood stolen in the final act. Main complaint though is of course the "love story" between Noctis and Lunafreya as is wasn't fleshed out and their supposed separation at a young age didn't really make it worthwhile. I also am aware of the canceled DLC, now Light Novel titled "The Dawn Of The Future", has saddened most for it not coming out in game form; however, I'm honestly fine with it not being made into a full fledge game as I find those alternate stories to be made solely for the people who can't handle the sad ending of FFXV. Sad ending doesn't make it a terrible ending, you know. If it were possible, the content could've been altered and used for a FFXV sequel, but since it was production hell just to make this initial game, a continuation probably would've made developers too scared to take on the task. Ah well, I'm content with what we got and hopefully others agree.

Honestly, I wish I would of waited to play this game. I got it soon after release and 100 percented the damn thing only to feel that the story was full of holes(didn't watch the anime movie and no dlc at that time). With all of the extra content it makes one hell of a game, but releasing it as a mess of a story isn't excusable for a game in development for that long. The game is a gem now but got totally ruined for me. Now, I'm definitely waiting for all the ff7 remake bs to come out before I play it...even if it will be several years from now.
I feel the same. Bought it midnight at release, whereas my sister played it within the last 6 months and I'd say she had a much more cohesive experience. Frustrating, but I still enjoyed it for what it was.
same here bro. I thought the game was so incomprehensible that I just auto-piloted through the story to see the ending. Then I gave up during the solo weaponless chapter because I was tired of of all this nonsense. Here I am again, the game suddenly sounds like a perfectly cohesive story.

What was hard to understand? Noct was the true king, crystal protects world from monster, bad guy uses crystal to infest world with monsters noct must sacrifice himself to restore crystals power. Personally I think it was one of the easier stories to understand.

Man the story is full of lore, complete and with nice FF references here and there. Why people say it was bad?
The characters were mostly good with exception of few ones whom felt lacking more backstory such as Gladio, Lunafreya, Aranea
And while the game mechanics and battle system aren't really good and was distancing completely from regular FF games I think it was ok for the most part.
Not the best FF clearly but also doesn't deserve all the hate it took all these years just because some players didn't find what they wanted here. It's just a good game with great story, astounding visuals and fantastic soundtrack
A lot of story was chopped up into outside DLC and books. So if you didn't have them, which no one did on release, then the story becomes a disjointed mess
Because i never played the DLCs (i had the royal or gold or whatever it was called edition on Xbone, just never bothered)
Then we cut to the movie ... to the anime (without actually seeing them you're just lost)
Just overal the story felt lackluster which is contributed in multiple ways, FF15 was FF13 versus before but got cancelled (FF13 versus looked super interesting, unfortunately it never came to pass and we got FF15)
The battle system was boring, with the exception of lunafreya's brother (2nd fight when he's consumed by darkness) it's literally hold a button to win (and occasionally teleport away to regen your HP while if you have 99 potions you got 99 revives)
The traveling although it looked nice overal became really dull, you don't get full control over your car, you get to say which road it'll drive on ... fun
after a certain point it becomes a linear point and the marketing was about it's grand scale open world (granted in the final chapter you can return to the past and do sidequests but that's a lame way of doing it)
Just overal a lackluster experience and that's amplified once you haven't watched the anime/movie or played the DLCs.
Ardyn actually becomes likeable after his DLC (only seen it through here) it makes sense how he turned into how he is in the game ... unfortunately you don't know till the DLC dropped and if you played it.
they made magic completely useless and not worth getting because it was a pain, the games was press circle and that is it

Because the game has absolutely nothing in terms of a coherent story. A princess dies who we the player have no real understanding of other than she was supposed to marry Noctis and we the audience don't really understand the relationship between Noctis and the other characters other than 'he's friends with them.' Like the camping & food cooking mechanic could've been used to explore that but instead it's just here's high resolution video game food, enjoy!
When you put it all together, this cohesively Final fantasy 15, is a really good story. FF 15 story was told as poorly as 13 was. This was a great story but nothing will beat the sadness of type-0, I still mourn. 😭😭😭
Na 13's story was told better, at least I didn't have to watch a movie and anime with ff13 for it's important plot and character backgrounds.

That's the thing right, when I played it, it was so jumpy and I just didn't feel it. Recapped like this, I finally can see why it is a Final Fantasy story
The issue is imo it was shattered to pieces + the fully open world with sidequests did not help. Otherwise the backstory is so unbelievably rich if you are interested in learning more. There's the anime series, the movie, the game itself, then the DLCs for various characters and parts of the story. I also love the Astrals (especially Ifrit + Shiva) who had actual meaning in this game, they were not just a battleforce.
Not saying the game is perfect, I would change some things, about the storytelling / gameplay / sidequests / summon system for example. But the game is very good in some aspects aswell. Overall I liked it.

I couldn't quite get into the game when this was released, and thus, was unable to grasp the full scale of the narrative. Watching it unfold here though, I realize how expansive, layered and tragic it really is. I finally understand this beautiful yet sad tale of betrayal, revenge, destiny & friendship.
I really enjoy playing Final Fantasy XV, it was a very memorable game.

I just have to say this is a very underrated game, replaying it as the Royal Edition and it's fixed so many of my gripes the 1st time through. It's not perfect by a long shot but the world building and central characters carry it well.
I feel like a lot of people hate it cause it wasn't Versus XIII. They built it up so much in their head that nothing could ever live up to it.
@@jellosapiens7261 good point the tone is very different from what Versus was pitched as. I may have been one but when I played it on release I just remember feeling like the game was hastily put together and released unfinished, which turned out true when DLC started dropping.

Excellent video! I played XV at launch and haven’t played any of the DLC and I can’t help but feel it is the most frustrating Final Fantasy ever. The ending was incredibly emotional and the characters were fantastic, but the delivery of the story left so much to be desired in the vanilla release. Just imagine if this game had all the open world fluff removed and told this great story in a more direct manner... this could have been one of the greatest games in the series. This video definitely makes me appreciate the game a lot more though. It almost makes me want to replay it!
i played this game at launch and felt it was missing too much. i haven't replayed it since, but very glad you did this one so i can see how the episodes sorted out the gaps. makes me wish i had waited for all the content to be released. perhaps i'll give it another go. thanks oni!

Man this was my first final fantasy experience and I gotta say I've seen the first 6 games played, the ff7 remake part 1, and played ff14. and I LOVE this one the most it has something the others just don't have

I realize you made this comment over a year ago but you also might enjoy FF9. It’s pretty old and obviously not nearly as advanced. But the gameplay and story made it my favorite FF game and even my favorite game in general of all time. It’s on steam if you’re interested.
FF7 is the only experience.
It's an experience because it was the first to have animated scenes for summoning summons. These are what made FF7 unique among the rest because the technology caught up to the imagination.
There has not been anything since the addition of animated scenes for summoning the forces of light and dark to your aide. Which means, there has been no experience to be had.
Plain and simply, you missed out. You'll never know what it was like to experience a six legged horse coming from the Moon to kill your foe. You'll experience the imitations, which have zero originality, making the audience lesser for the experience.

came here for a watch to remind myself of the beauty of this game before rebirth, I'm so excited, this ending broke my heart and stomped the shards into dust especially when Noct appeared on the logo and it revealed that Luna was shown from the beginning, as the goddess on the title.

So... I played and finished this the week before it came out (live in NYC) and never played any of the DLC. I can't believe Square Enix didn't finish this game before putting it out. Seeing this storyline... it's like 60% of what I just watched was NOT in the vanilla release.

Thank you for this. I just finished the story today with Ardyn’s dlc (I know the books have story as well as comrade but I will eventually look into this since I know it is mostly not canon.) I feel like the main cast was well done and tie with a nice bow. - I will say though I feel like there was a missing piece (I only know it because I went with it when doing the main story) was who ended hurting Ravus- such as Ardyn became Noct and hurting him, and that’s how Noct found him almost dead. - but just detail, other than that, this recap is amazing! Thank you a lot! ✨

It's funny how they have the Silhouettes of the old King's watching the fight and then you have to collect the weapons of the Old Kings and they reduce the number so significantly since technically there are a hundred and thirteen not counting noctis but I realize that animating and modeling 113 Kings would have been too much work and they will already delayed by like a decade
Man, I always get so emotional when I hear the story of FFXV. Now that you've lined up all the main story elements from the entire thing, it might've just become my second favorite game of all time.
If everyone who disliked it took a second to realize that it's no longer meant to be a simple game, but a multimedia experience spanning across the game, OVAs, DLC, movies, anime, and other various readings, prequels, and sidestories, I just hope they realize it's a massive juggernaut of hit and must-have heavy story. Not only on the consumer's opinion, but also their souls.

This story is absolutely beautiful, Ardyn’s really broke my heart to hear all that he’s gone through. All the side characters really do have awesome stories as well, I wish we would’ve gotten more episodes with more side characters to do deeper dives into their stories too!
Despite the omission of the Comrades story,I absolutely loved this video
Never played this game since I didn't have time to own a PS4 (with college, FFXIV was my game)
But this is an amazing video and even though I heard the pros and cons of this game, seeing the video at least made me understand the lore behind it.

For future games I would recommend chucking the letters DLC in the bottom right or something, while you are describing events that were not part of the original game.
I'm guessing it is going to become a more common thing
Easily my second favorite final fantasy soundtrack and narrative in my opinion. IX has my favorite for both.
