We compareD the £499 CALEY 01 T IRONS head to head against TAYLORMADE P770 IRONS and PING G410 Irons with a MID-HCP GOLFER!
The results were quite a surprise! We wasn't expecting this...

Very nice. 👍
I got a set of the takomo 101 which look very similar. Play great and a affordable. The price of golf clubs now is getting ridiculous. Great video lads
We tested the Takomo 101 with our high handicap rob. I really enjoyed hitting them
Thanks for Gary and James for trying out the Caley 01T irons - delighted to hear all your positive feedback. Both of you striking them lovely and what a putt from James at the end. Seen your order come through the other day. Will get them built and dispatched ASAP. Cheers, Ryan.
Awesome review from Gaz and James
Top video Gaz and really pleased for James as he was striking them CALEY irons well, hopefully we will see a match when they arrive
Couldn't you come up with anything better than an X ? Takomo's logo is class.
Do you deliver to Thailand?
@@LeslieGreenwood-bu9tn funnily enough we quite like the minimalism of our own logo
Well.done lads informative as usual ...the TM yep nice and re sale if you were to move em on...tbh go for caley mate 👍 and cheaper.🤯🤯
Just goes to show big money spent doesn't always lead to big gains made the Caleys looked great. smoking putt at the end to finish on a high.
Striking them well! Great video Gaz 👍🏻
Because of the price of irons, I have been looking in the second-hand market. But now I am looking at Caley, Takomo and Maltby irons for the price and can get them in my spec. Caley has a good static fitting system making them hard to resist. since these are direct-to-consumer items, a head-to-head with these three brands would be helpful.
Not heard of maltby, I’ll have a look 👌🏼
@@garymartingolfGabe of Let’s play thru has reviewed them.
selling my cobra forged tec x irons if your interested , i only want £450 in really good nick, listed on FB and Gumtree 👍
@@garymartingolf Definitely suggest checking out the Maltby irons. I've been doing some club building for fun and think that the Maltby TS1 IM and the TS4 iron heads look worlds better than the Takomo 201 irons I've been playing. The TS1 IM irons are performing on par with my Mizuno Pro 223 irons. I've settled on the Mizuno's for my regular set and the TS1 IM as a more forgiving hollow body iron. I really fell out on the Takomo's because the PW and 9 iron top lines looked so chunky . Maltby's look great throughout.
I've got a set of Caley 01T's with the tour lite steel shaft in them. They perform as good as any top branded irons I have tried before.
That’s what shafts we’ve gone for, for James. If they can out perform ping, they’ll do for us 😄
I love what the DTC matket is doing, but im still a stickler for a proper fitting
I am too personally, but I love you can get a good performing product for a reasonable price. It’s not rubbish anymore, it actually compares.
@@garymartingolf Indeed, but my issue is I know my specs and I'm pretty particular about swing weight, and most DTC companies don't go that in depth about the fitting options you can select online.
Keep up the good work Gary.
Had the Takomo 101Ts for about 9 months and would recommend them. The Caley irons are pretty similar. If you know your specs and you're not scratch or better the direct to consumer market is deffo the way to go.
Which you was local, would have been great to put them head to head, as I think the profiles are pretty similar.
They look very similar. And both look friendly as well as compact. Keep up the good work 🤗
Enjoyed this one Gaz! The Caleys are absolutely brilliant, can’t wait for them to arrive and to give them a whirl! Let’s sort a match for when they’ve arrived 😎🏌️♂️
100%, it’ll be good to share what you’ve gone for, and see them in action!
Wots aftersales service like with Caley Ping are second to none
I’ve no idea. I can agree with you on Ping being second to none though.
Having spent next years budget on tattoos there’s not much left for golf 😮😅
Haha 😄
Seem comparable as new but wonder what these DTC clubs look like a season or 2 with use?? Do the heads hold up or show wear signs that are worse?
We looked at Robs Takomo after 18 months and I classed them as wearing normal. I wouldn’t class Caley and Takomo as budget product, the components are great. I dare say these sets cost the same to manufacturer as TM, Callaway etc.
@@garymartingolf Good to know. Yes. Similar costs to make. Just less advertising, endorsement deals, etc., which drive up costs.
what worries me about Caley and Takomo is the wear and have you seen SAS golfs review of caley
No, I’ll have a look.
I've had mine a year and they still look great
@@davidtruluck3989 I think this is a load of toss from SAS. The only thing different is the head. It's a lump of metal. What's it going to do, melt?
I bought a set of the cheapest ($100) box set of clubs about 23 years ago. I sold them on, and know about 5 owners that used them since and still see them doing the rounds with someone else. They are still playable after years of abuse and were never near the quality of the current DTC offerings. I get the SAS gig, buying wisely with second hand used gear. But that can also be full of potential traps, are they original spec for lie, loft, length etc? Tired grips that add to the cost etc
I prefer them caley to the takomo
Takomo in Graphite only seem to have their own Obsidian shaft.
For UK based buyers you are also importing Takomo verse Caley are local, avoiding potential duties
I personally prefer the clean look of Caley, although I like both clubs to hit.
TM 770 did well considering its 3 degrees weaker 😂
more like 2! 😅
@@caleygolf Fair enough 🤣 I thought the 01T had a 30 degree 7 iron?
@@matthewthompson6329 It does but across the set (4-PW) it's more of a 2 degree difference
@caleygolf I did prefer the feel off the caley compared to my P790s. May give them another whirl if they provide better stopping power 🤞
That would explain the slightly difference in numbers, marrys up exactly.
All those putting aids used in practice then not in your game.
Totally agree. I have since and just to update, I’m using the line 6 feet and in, but on longer putts, I feel it hinders more than helps, as I’m that focused on the line, I lose my natural vision and ability to feel the putt.
