Glad virtue/bk got rid of the magnet on the cone and went with a thumb wheel screw. I have lost that little donut magnet during play a few times on both my cntrl & spire

Honestly the trend with 300$ + loaders up here in Canada is getting old. Would be nice to see companies moving away from gouging customers.

The LTR and Spire IR (1 or 2) are truly perfect hoppers IMO, no need to get the higher price point unless you're looking for those 20 extra balls in a hopper, included speed feed, etc. As a ref/salesman when I used to work at a paintball store, I was recommending them left and right. Of course I'd show the higher end hoppers if the customer wanted to see but I always tried to make them feel like you don't have to spend an arm and a leg to get true performance, and you don't. Paintball has been capped at 10.5 for the past decade basically, what unnatural feed rates do you really have to achieve unless you're in your backyard shooting uncapped.

Yes, it will and easily perform against any modern day hopper too.

      @@Paintballpro18 oh?
That’s great to hear from a pro because I haven’t played in a long time but I’m thinking of getting into it again with some of my old coworkers and a group they play woods ball with.
I mentioned I still had all of my old gear, air tanks, pods, halo b loader, mask everything except my old smart parts ion? and Spyder extra?? so I needed to get a new marker and I’d be ready to go. But he told me the markers use different caliber balls now so I wouldn’t be able to use much of my old stuff if I wanted to get any respectable modern marker.
I don’t remember what size balls he said his marker took nowadays but I think my old stuff was all for .68 and I didn’t know different size paintballs existed until he said that.
So if the halo will feed the newer markers I assume the markers are using smaller balls now?
What size do you recommend the new marker be?
Can I use my old compressed air or co2 tanks?
Finally, I’m too old and grumpy to sort through a hundred wannabe’s opinions on what’s best but I know those that are “in the know” can save amateurs a lot of money and time with guidance so, can you just recommend a reliable B+ maybe A-grade setup?
I obviously don’t want to waste money but I’d like to sink 800 maybe up to a grand into it one time and be happy for the long term if that’s possible nowadays.

      @Paintballpro18 5 месяцев назад

@jaxturner7288 that's totally respectable and great (or maybe not lol) that you got the paintball bug again.
To start off with, no paint hasn't change in size like that, and both the extra and ion would shoot the balls today. Potentially what whoever informed you about this was paint has relatively shrunk, but from an average .689 size to .683ish, OR that there are two sizes being the .68 caliber and .50 caliber. Regardless, both the Ion and Spyder will shoot them both.
Now, those markers are a bit outdated and you could probably do with an upgrade. First thing I'd do is go to your pro field, and try on any and all the masks there. Whatever fits you best, don't hesitate to buy. I understand most people's first recommendations are a marker, but I'm 100% for a mask as this piece of equipment will be on your face 100% of the time paintballing, no matter if you have a marker or not. You can't be on the field without one, so you want something that's going to feel natural. An example I can think of is the HK KLR's ride on my nose and feel like they cut off air, but for my gf Empire EVS's do that. Every person's face is different, there's no right or wrong answer for everyone so would try on masks and feel which one is best. The so called "cheapest" option that's a quality option is the JT Profilers, a mask you might have seen back in the day. Recently made a come back and are some of the most budget friendly yet customizable masks on the market to make it your own if you feel the need to spend more money down the road.
For a marker, I always vote for anything Planet Eclipse, their markers simply just work. It's hard not to go to a tournament, and not half of all the makers being used being that of PE, Mechanical tournament or electronic. Depending on your budget, either of the ETHA 3 options are fantastic starter markers, the normal Etha 3 or Etha 3M. The M stands for mechanical and won't require a 9V battery to operate the marker, but everything else internally will be the same (it can fire just as fast).
For a tank, any tank will do, but if buying from somewhere ask for the hydro date. Nothing has changed on that, but just know from the born date you get 5 years of use then you have to re-hydro before the tank can be used properly again. A 3000 PSI tank will feel heavier and hold less air than most 4500s as well, but a good way for a general comfort of use with a tank is to put your arm at a 90 degree angle, place the tank on your bicep at your elbow (obviously not on the elbow but against your forearm) and find where the regulator of the tank sits. You want the reg to be basically even with the palm of your hand, where it caves in so to say. That has been my general measurement for anyone I've sold a tank to, gotten from the great Ollie Lang himself.
For a hopper I can't stress the Virtue spires enough, but some people are Dye rotor people too so honestly either path is fine imo. A spire IR2 or a Rotor LTR are 2 perfectly great options, that many professionals in this sport use. They are super budget friendly hoppers considering, and perform exactly like the higher end ones. To me I go spire due to maintenence, form factor:ball ratio, and ease of use. Nothing flashy, you put 3 AAs in, press the on button and you're ready to go.
Everything else you can get as you go: pod back, pants, pads, headbands, squeegies, pods, caddy, gearbag, etc., but to me those are my recommendations and reasons behind them. Mind you any marker above $300 will perform phenomenally, don't fret about if you can't find someone with a PE marker like I've said. Hope any of this helps, we love to spread any information we can give!
