thanks man, great video, just one thing at 13:12 you said the fan move a little bit, thats because the original fan had in the three holes for the screws some rubber rings, you just take them from the original fan and place then on the new one, and with those the fan fits perfectly and doesnt move.
I read your comment before I started my fan replacement, thought “phew, glad I read that!” and STILL managed to forget! 😅 Fortunately I remembered before putting everything back together. Thank you!
Thank you :) after a few heart attacks and forgetting to connect the "SD holder" correctly, fixing that, destroying 2 screws and losing one, my switch finally runs smooth and silent again ^^
Couple notes from my experience: 1) The fan shouldn't wiggle around after you install it. There are some little shock mount rubber grommets that go around the screw holes that you need to take off the old fan and put on the new one. 2) My fan doesn't spin a little when I turn on the device. I thought it probably wouldn't work when I got it all back together but it did. 3) I wasn't able to get the SD card connected to the motherboard again without removing the little pad that's on top of it. After I removed it I could easily connect it again, then I just replaced the pad afterwards again. 4) for some reason the 2 bottom screws by the USB connector wont go back in. No idea why??
This is one of my first times doing something so hands-on like this, and you made it INCREDIBLY easy. This vid helped me work wonders, thanks again! :)
Thank you so much. It was of great help. Two things I would have personally done differently: unplug the battery and replace the thermal paste, it seemed a little more on the drier-end. Thanks again!
For anyone new watching this video I just wanted to say I followed it to a T and it was a huge help. Unfortunately in the beginning I didn’t have the right screwdrivers and ended up stripping a few so I had to buy a whole drill kit in Amazon for that and bought the proper screwdrivers. I’m happy that after all the effort it finally paid off lol. My fan was screaming every time I tried to play a game and replacing the fan worked like a charm. I’d say my switch is around 5 or 6 years old.
Thanks for posting this video I had a little trouble getting that copper radiator piece back in but otherwise it was a flawless success. I did the battery about three weeks ago and it works great my 11-year-old son is very happy. The only thing I can say is get one of those magnetic grid boards to put the screws on so you don’t lose them I am not an organized person by any means but I made sure to number each screw and where it went and then work my way backwards so I didn’t forget any screws
Thank you for this video. I successfully changed my cooling fan and i even switched out the battery successfully while i had it open. I want to make one remark to the cooling fan having that wiggle room? The origin cooling fan has rubber gaskets you should take off and apply to the replacement fan. Just something i noticed during my own switch surgery. Thank you for posting this video and giving me the confidence!
You can test the fan basically once you put the game cartridge/headphone jack piece in, and probably a good idea to do at that time. Other than that, great video, it was super helpful :)
Thank you for posting! Very helpful and well explained! I think someone else might have mentioned but there's 3 little rubber bushings for the fan that help hold it in place. I doubt that'd make any difference for cooling but it might be a little noisy:) thanks again friend!
WARNING FOR FUTURE VIEWERS: I too purchased the ElecGear fan replacement kit as shown in the video (not blaming video creator, I had bought this before even finding this video!). Well, upon installing and following this video and another video exactly, my Switch was crashing upon bootup. I took it apart again and hooked the old fan back up and it worked fine (old fan is still grinding due to bad bearings, but the Switch at least works again). So, if you run into the same issues, it's most likely due to a faulty fan. When I looked up other reviews on Amazon for this product, many other people had the same issue, so beware of this particular fan! For the record, I have a launch day Switch, so it COULD be because this fan is meant for newer models, which MIGHT have the fan draw more power than the original models. That's just my theory if it's not due to the fan being faulty, simply because one would think a faulty fan would result in it simply not turning on versus hard crashing the Switch every time on bootup. Anyway, buy at your own risk!
Thanks for the video! It was my third video for this case that i watched. i was about to mention the thing with the rubber rings, but that was already mentioned. One thing though, and i suppose it depends on the firmware you currently have on your switch. When i installed the new fan, it did NOT turn for a short moment like it did in your video. I immediately thought my fan was bad and reordered another.. then i replaced it with the original fan (which did work, but made scratching noises) and it also did NOT turn on. I installed the new fan again and put everything back into place. Started up a game which is quite demanding and waited for air to be pushed out of the switch. It did (to my great relief!). So if anyone wonders why their fan did not turn on, upon turning on the console, it may be just a different firmware where there is no "fan test" at the beginning.
Thanks a lot!! That was my initial thought as well, so I fired up TOTK for a few seconds and then boom! The fan started to spin very nice and silently ^^
Great video just replaced my fan & flawless.! I wiped away the old thermal paste & applied new paste so hopefully this fan will last me another 3 years plus
Awesome video! I accidentally put the black backing back on before I tested the fan. Removed it, turned it on, saw the subtle rotation, then put the backing back on. Noticed I forgot one silver screw, but if my Switch no longer shuts down because of overheating, cheers to you! Thanks.
Question, I worked on Nintendo Switch Lite today I was doing a shell swap on it, and right before I put it all back together I turned it on to see if the fan will start spinning the moment I tuned it on, but it didn’t so my question is do you know if it should start spinning instantly when it turns on or does it start to spin once the console starts getting warm?
hum, maybe i did something wrong.. my fan is always working even on sleep mode. I will dismount it all over again to see if i can see the mistake.. maybe a faulty fan ? update: The fan connector, i cant plug it well, i think its broken. I solved it adding a little bostik between the connector and the bronze piece, its making some pressure.
Recently my switch started over heating after playing for jus 30 min docked and would shut down on its own. It’s done it three times, and I haven’t used it since as I don’t want to damage it further. I don’t hear any fan sounds coming from it, so is fair to assume the fan is prolly broken?
My fan runs after I turn the switch off. Only turns off if I turn the unit back on or unplug the battery. Any suggestions. This is the original fan. Just wondering what could cause this
Thank you for this excellent video. I replaced my badly screaming fan and now my Switch is running silently again. I also didn't replace thermal paste, just added a bit more and that was it.
