Can I just use vaseline / petroleum jelly to separate skin and silicone? You would help me a lot if you could answer that.
The Release Cream is a special lanolin based cream. Vaseline is not as effective. Depending on the size of the hands, you may be able to make multiple molds.
Would I be able to use ecoflex for the first layer and then a different (more cost effective) silicone for the rest of the layers? Also how many casts can you get out of a glove mould like this in plaster/wax?

@smooth-on I am curious if this mold could be used for wax candle making? would it be too difficult to remove the glove without ruining the wax as it is fragile in comparison to the cast?
We wouldn’t recommend casting concrete in Ecoflex rubber due to the abrasive ness of the concrete. You will get a limited amount of castings. If you choose to try this, we would recommend Aquacon release agent.

Daniel Brydebell Just use a disposable non-powdered vinyl food-handling glove. Fill with water. Tie shut and freeze. When frozen carefully cut away the glove and throw away.

+Sugar Note Alginate works great as well for hand casting. This method produces a re-usable mold. Alginate molds are generally one-time use only due to their moisture content and low tear strength.

No problem trimming to clean up imperfections but sandpaper is probably not going to be beneficial.

Smooth-Cast 325 is a rigid resin, like a plastic. Perhaps a firmer silicone such as Dragon Skin 30 would work?
can i pour mold max 20 over the finished rubber mold.
Mold Max 20 would not adhere, it is a tin cured silicone, Ecoflex is platinum.
Can i add thi-vex to make it less runny?
Yes, you can. URE-FIL 11 would also work.
Can I use a vaseline as a release cream?
Better to use Body Double Release Cream - it is a heavier-bodied release cream.
is the red and blue pigment really necessary??
It’s optional, just so you can see where the material is being applied, as it is normally transparent.

Why not just stick your hand in a vat of silicon after coating it in release gel?
You could, but this would result in a lot of wasted material, and it would be quite difficult to demold your hand.
