  • In this video, I complete the wing construction including the engine nacelles. Please NOTE that when the audio drops out slightly it is because I have edited out where I say "OK". People have complained in the past about the number of times I say it, so I have removed it.
The conclusion I draw in this video is that I have made a slight construction error - I am confident the kit was not to blame. It is a very minor issue, but I do now need to fill and re-scribe. Details in the video. Enjoy! =)

Hi Simon, Im building the Hobby 2000 version of this kit atm and it is possible to build the nacelles perfectly around the engines. But only just and with hours and hours of test fitting. My suggestion to anyone trying is to assemble front and rear nacelles seperate. That way you can use the exhausts to line up front and back and the spinner to close up the esembly.

Thanks for your comment! Assuming the Hobby 2000 version hasn't been tweaked in some way then that is good to know!! This one was tricky as can be seen in my video. I am thinking of building the same kit again and seeing if I can get it right.....I love Luftwaffe aircraft, so I can easily choose another one of their impressive schemes!! Thanks again.

@@SimonWebbRCandModellingChannel Hi again, you are correct, it's the exact same kit but with canopy masks and Cartograph decals. Sells for around 80 euro's, an absolute steal! Let me know if you need help, I'm able to tell you in detail what I did if needed. P.s, Hobby 2000 also has the Dragon Bf 109 E on sale for around 50 euros, THE best 109 E in my opinion! Cheers!

My new conclusion regarding the nacelle misalignment at the end is.....I think I over-clamped it. A lesson for me to learn there!

Fantastic build,I found the same problem re the fitment of the engine nacelles/cowling,not a big deal though.

Thanks for your great comment....I enjoyed this one! It is nice to know others had the same problem with the nacelles....(in a nice way).....I was thinking I had made an error. Cheers 👍🙂

@@SimonWebbRCandModellingChannel As you say it's a fantastic kit that,in the main, just clicks together, the only real issues I had were the cowling fit and positioning the nose cone over the 4 machine guns.I look forward with interest to watching your approach to the nose guns/nosecone fit.

Very, very good work on that Bf110 kit, Simon. I built the Dragon version about a year after it came out originally. One small point: Did you Use Tamiya RLM grey (XF 22?) for the interiors? I ask because the Tamiya RLM Grey (Both the Acrylic and Enamel versions) was their original German Army Field Grey color (Ie a dark green-grey_). RLM 02 (Interiors and primer) was a much paler grey-green colour - you need to add about 30% white and 10 yellow to get the right tone and hue for RLM 02.

Hi Simon, great detail explanation of the fitting, it does seem odd that 1 engine and cowling fits on one wing, yet not on the other. Is there any difference in the sizing of the actual engine from one engine to the other? Did you manage to use a caliper to measure them individually? Good that a man of your talents is able to work around, I'm sure it's going to look great after the filling and rescribing of that problematic engine and wing. All the best until next time.

Thanks John. I think the problematic engine cowl moved whilst the glue was curing and has ended up in a slightly lower position. No I didn't use calipers as I assumed they were both the same size. I can only guess that the flared out lower engine cowl has been over-clamped and has deformed. Otherwise I am at a loss. I am working on it right now and it is looking much better, so fingers crossed for me. Until next time.

The average Tamika “modeller” would have a good cry if they had a fit issue like this. They hold their breath in front of their mummies and turn purple at the sight of the smallest amount of flash. 😬
