- I take a look at the contents of the full upgrade set that incorporates the smaller sets into on deluxe offering, covering armament, masts, radars and the basic set.
You’re going to have the ultimate Scharnhorst model when you’re done with all that. 😍
Look like a quality upgrade kit. How I would have loved that sort of thing years ago. Just can't seem to do the fiddley small stuff any more, but sure do appreciate the detail. Thanks for the review Jason. 👍
Its why I stared a stash of wooden ship kits they are definitely less fiddly
Hi Jason, I know about soldiering, CA, and PVA, but attaching parts with magic is a new one. LOL. This looks like a really well designed aftermarket set. I'm looking forward to seeing the build. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff
Nice review Jason. Looks like a handful.. I just ordered it anyhow!! You mentioned the hull.. isn't the bow misshapen at the main deck level? Nice sticker BTW. Pontos vs KA.. when it comes to the Enterprise, the Pontos deck is far superior to KA. The KA set gives you nothing for the Aircraft, but Pontos gives you nothing for the ships boats. As you say, with that kit you need both sets because KA gives you resin boats and the Trumpeter boats are Dog Poo.
Thanks yes the focsal is back to front and the bow is wrong because it's the hull for Scharnhorst's sisters ship. unfortunately KA is the only show in town for this right now, you know I would get Pontos too if I could. I have 3 etch sets and additional resin of Bismarck. building this in the winter
@@ModelkitStuff I'm aware this is the only set right now for the Scharnhorst, but I was surprised to hear you prefer KA to Pontos decks? Maybe we should buddy build this one lol.. keep us both going.
Sent you an email@@NigelsModellingBench
Awesome review, can't wait for the build, Ron Calverley, mentioned it, and I've got to see the build!
Thank you, I do love Ron's channel, I will be building it as soon as the Queen Mary 2 is diminished catch my Table talk videos for updates on when that will be
@Modelkit Stuff sure will, I do 1/350, to save on cash and space, but am going to do the German fleet.
Wow there is a lot of extra goodies in the set. Almost a model in itself.
Looking forward to the build. To bad about the damage to the wooden deck. 1:29:09 I have the newest pontos upgrade that just came out for the Mogami. Started the build and I do have to say that 3d printed parts are spectacular. No more resin. Good luck and I’ll be following along.
intresting did not know Pontos had moved to 3D printing
Really looking forward to this build. I have the kit and this upgrade set in my stash. Will be superb to watch you put this together, I am a build and a half off doing this (finish a Prinz Eugen, then a Tirpitz) so will be great to see how it all goes together and get some tips before i start it! I was really impressed with the Mk1 set too, absolutely superb quality, dreading the handrails and the grab rails though!!😆 How long till you start?
Not to long I need to finish Queen Mary 2 first, I give updates in my weekly table talk videos, so keep up with them to not miss the kick off
Well! J.
You’ve inspired me to take on the task of building some of my stashed ship kits!
Besides my Tamiya 1/700 Scharnhorst, I’ve dusted off my Trumpeter 1/350 Blucher kit.
I started this kit around 3 years ago.
I bought the Eduard detail up set , which includes a photo etch bow, because surprise, surprise! Trumpeter got it wrong. I’ve realised now that’s the reason I shelved the project.
I bent all the P.E. To form a perfect new stem for the ship, then realised I’d have to graft this on to the original bow, seamlessly. Any suggestions? Jason.
i have the Blucher kit also. Best product for blending etch into the plastic is milliput in my opinion, I guess your copping plastic out?
Very nice Jason ❤
Holy Photoetch!!! wow
Hi, Jason.
Would you recommend fixing a wood deck using wood glue, instead of relying on the adhesive backing?
I’ve heard some modellers say the self adhesive decks can start to peel off over time.
I have never had a wood deck delaminating from its adhesive. Usually deck popping off is due to poor fitting, I have seen modellers recommending CA and all sorts but the fact is you need to do a lot of test fitting before you finally fit the deck. Most wooden decks need a little fetteling first, Pontos decks probably fit best but unfortunately look the worst.
