Not sure if you mentioned it, but this applies to virtually ALL CPUs to one degree or another. Even disabling access to the hyperthreaded/SMT cores can have a benefit on older CPUs. The P and E cores aspect applies to Intel CPUs from 12th Gen on. On AMD you'll want to adjust if your CPU has multiple CCDs (5950x, 5900x, 7950x, 7900x, 7950x3D, 7900x3D, threadripper, etc.). Lock DCS to the cores of one CCD so the slow infinity fabric is not used. For the X3D CPUs, you want to lock DCS to the CCD with massive cache.

I agree with you. I have a computer with an i9, RTX 3080Ti, 64 GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD. DCS only runs once after installation on my computer. It performs lightning-fast on the highest settings during that first launch. However, subsequent launches are a nightmare. First, the loading takes 15 minutes, and then crashes start happening, even when running the multithreaded version. This is grounds for requesting a refund for the software since it doesn't meet the standards promised by the developer.

You're mistaken. Lock DCS to physical cores (non-SMT) if your CPU has more than 8 threads and you'll see a boost. First, this app is similar to the app we used to use for FSX which would lock apps and games to using only specific number of cores which was awesome because back then and honestly even today most CPU's and Games utilize only about 4-6 cores at most but also the first 4 cores in AMD processors generally provide the most performance so it is nice to be able to lock a game to only certain cores. As for the comment about disabling your other CCD(s) because of Inifity Fabric, only certain games take a hit in performance because of it others can have a boost it really all depends on the game and it's optimization. I dunno about DCS but in general the performance hit is usually VERY little and performance reward for disabling it does not normally make it worth it if you are already doing extra background applications like streaming or video editing etc. But that's up to preference.

I bought Lasso. And boy what a difference!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉. I have an 4060ti i7 - it has never run this good. DCS, MSFS, Cyberpunk, they are consistent at 90+ frames. No questions asked. Worth the $18 investment (using the sites coupon) normally $25 or something like that. Thanks Spud. 😊
Thanks for another excellent video on optimization for DCS. My newly built DCS PC is quite similar to yours's 4090 GPU, but I 'm using AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU. Any thoughts on if this would work on the Ryzen CPU infrastructure?
Ryzen doesn't use E-cores, there's no need for this. If you had a 7900x3d or the 7950, there might be a reason to limit it to the CCD with the actual 3d cache, but the 7800x3d only has 1 CCD so its a non-issue.
This worked for me, for the most part. i7 14700k, 4070ti and 64GB of RAM. Sometimes, though, if I load DCS with PL in the background I get terrible stuttering and it doesnt go away until I close out PL. Not sure why. When it works, I get +20 FPS. I wish I could figure out the issue..
Thanks again for another great video. Just wondering if I am doing something wrong, when I follow your instructions to the CPU Affinity Tab there is no PCORS BUTTON or ECORES button to push. I am running a I7 !0700K CPU and wondering if its architecture does not lend itself to the provisions of Process Lasso. Thanks
process lasso will always run in the background, once you've done what the tutorial says you can completely forget about it, but kep in mind that it will give oyu a very annoying popup everytime you start your computer
If you have an AMD cpu you don't need this since every core is equivalent to a PCore, and you can set the DCS process to a higher priority directly in the Windows task manager.
I have the 14900k as well but have no problems but check your Bios for somthing called Gamers Legacey mode (or somthing like that) as on my Asus motherboard this will turn off the E-cores just by pressing "Scroll Lock" on the keyboard with no need for 3rd party software
In summary: Intel created a problem (ecores), which you have had to solve. Just like Microsoft created a problem (Windows Defender), which you have had to solve. It's notable how much time and effort you have had to spend, just to get normal performance back into your PC.
Do you have to run ProcessLasso in the background while playing DCS or can you just open ProcessLasso, change the settings, close it and never open it again?
Spud, great video. I used to run Lasso some time ago. After watch this video, I choose to reinstall it and running it with DCS and MSFS. Question, After installing Lasso and confining it for DCS, Task manager still shows CPU Cores as being parked. Are the Afinity setting equal to parking CPU Cores?
There is a similar issue with MSFS 2020. As an AMD user I don't have E-Cores, but MSFS will sometimes use HT-Cores for performance relevant tasks and can be really slow, especially the loading times. Process Lasso will help here too. Since I limit MSFS to use only the physical cores of my 7800X3D, the loading times are much faster and more consistent.
I didn't notice a difference, but I run all AMD which has a different architecture than Intel and I think some Intel chips may differ. Doesn't matter what version of DCS/Program you use. Remember, you're tweaking the programs you want effected by this by running them in the background, so it shows up on Task manager or the program mentioned above "Lasso"
You explained how to download Process Lasso and how to set up a DCS-profile. Then what ? Do I need to start PL before starting DCS ? Do I manually select the profile ? Can this be done automatically ?
I run DCS on a low end PC and get playable framerates. On some complex missions however (such as the ones that come with the Raven One campaign) bug out with certain activations and triggers on my pc whilst working perfectly fine on higher end systems. The Devs reckon it could be something due to the scheduler having a panic attack if it means keeping DCS at playable framerates. I wonder if process lasso could mitigate this.
Does Process Lasso stay running in the BG (and start at boot) or do I need to start it and select the profile for DCS every time I load up DCS? Have you tried this with DCS in VR?
So, I set it up last night and can report that it does run in the BG, and is set by default to launch when windows starts. I played for a few hours and it did seem to improve performance in VR, far less stuttering, far more consistent. Anecdotal for sure, but it seems to help. Before I would get stutters like mad when on the ground, or when looking at complex geometry for the first time, and that seems to have been mitigated. My specs for those with a similar rig and problems: i9 13900k 4090 64gb RAM Varjo Aero - running at "High" 35PPD Before trying Lasso, running 35PPD would get stutters, 37 or 39 was a complete mess, even with DCS quality settings set to "VR quality". I'll be trying 39PPD and upping the DCS settings to see what's what.
@Spudknocker it worked. In fact, I maxed out all the in-game options, which I always felt I should be able to run. There are no issues around the board. Huge thank you, I feel like I'm on an entire new sim.
I think the MT / DLSS + 4090 = "BUT, WHAT DO I DO WITH MY HANdS" I get better FPS with Priority set and Dlss off . same config with 13900k Without MT Fps + with dlss on. VR vs NON VR with 4k resolution
@@jamisondanecker8186 I'll try that. I hope ED keep working on making DCS more VR friendly. You need to be a computer genius to make it work. Process Lasso has made DCS playable for me but it doesn't run as smooth as it should. Thanks for the comment mate
I have 2 questions : 1 - What about if there no button "P-Cores" to click on (I have a RTX 2070 SUPER) 2 - Does all of this work with VR ? Many thanks in advance
I had a PC built around the RTX 4090. I, too, was frustrated by the stutters in OpenBeta MT. I stumbled on a process on some forum whereby at DCS startup screen, I go to the task manager, right click on DCS, then right-click Go To Details and then to Set Affinity and uncheck No. 8. It clears up all stutters. Is this an automated way to do this, and is it run at PC startup?
I have the 14900k as well, didn't think I'm having any issues after the most recent bios update, however everyone told me I should do this anyways and I found your video. When I press "P Cores" it auto sets it to the first 15 cores not 7. I didn't manually change anything, have any recommendations?
@spudknocker I am always wondering whats causing your performance issues. One question. Description says 14900K combined with DDR4 3600mhz RAM? Raptor lake is primarily designed to run on DDR5. What board are you on? Since DCS 2.9 i see most often intel users having trouble. DCS Multithreading seems to run pretty fine on AMD, but having almost no effect on intel platforms or causing even trouble. Even though, DCS should run ultra smooth even without MT on your setup.
Error that Eagle Dynamics did, was to form a common multi-threaded program as the DCS World would be like a 3D rendering or video editing software, where each scene or time can be split to own timeframes and distribute all those to your different CPU cores for processing simultaneously to form the final data. What ED should have done, is to split the DCS World to multiple different libraries and run each library separately on own dedicated CPU core, independent from others. Example: One major category switch is the BLUE and RED sides. So example RED is given odd CPU cores and BLUE is given even CPU cores. 1 Odd RED 2 Even BLUE 3 Odd RED 4 Even BLUE 5 Odd RED 6 EvenBLUE Then each side gets own dedicated CPU core by the type. 1 = Player aircraft flight modeling 2 = Player aircraft sensors (radar, EOS etc) 3 = Every released missile, dropped bomb and fired rocket. 4 = Ground units AI 5 = Air units AI 6 = Every bullet trajectory fired 7 = Rest You allocate each type to own groups based the available CPU threading or cores. So if you have 6 core + 2 threads per core processor, you have 12 processing units. That gives 6 for blue and 6 for red. You can combine types to groups, example: 1 2 4+7+3 5+6 And now you have four processing groups, where each is put on own CPU thread processing. Nothing is syncronized between the groups to stop influencing other process. So if your sensor is heavy on calculation, it doesn't affect at all to your flight modeling. Or if you release a cluster bomb on lot of units, it doesn't affect your flight modeling or your sensors or any ground unit movement and reaction. If you play on computer that has less CPU cores, today that is minimum 4 cores and 8 threads. Then you just combine more together that are not stressing each other too much. But always prioritize player flight and sensor experience over anything else. It is OK if the ground unit warps slightly, but it is not fine that you flying and looking around will drop frames and warp around because the ground unit was warping. And then every AI is separated from single AI. There needs to be AI system that can run thousands of AI units separately, and run all through communication and delays in it. As in reality, if HQ gives command for capturing a hill 10 km away, it is multiple hour operation. There is no requirement whatsoever for realtime processing, no requirement to know exactly every unit location, status, state etc. All that should be simulated first by numbers, like soldier is waken, cleans the equipment, eats, prepares to move, form a group, mount vehicle or start patrol. And then expected to arrive on given area example 2 hours +/- 10 minutes. There is lot of factors that can be delayed in processing when required, as nothing needs to be realtime. So if ground unit gets stuck, it doesn't affect player sensors or flight modeling.
Not an ED thing is an Intel chipset plus windows I don't know what to prioritise thing. Not much ED can do until Microsoft and Intel come up with a better CPU core scheduling system. As it screws up choosing what e-core and P-core to use on most software not just DCS. Most don't know about it though
Ok. Tried your recommended settings, I thought it was working well. When I went back to 2D the frame rate was appalling. I have a 14900k and a 4090 and 64 GB of fast RAM. Something wasn’t right, clearly. Eventually I switched off the profile I’d created in PL. I then used the default settings, either High or Ultimate Performance. Kaboom! Back to what I should have been seeing. Silky smooth maxed out settings at 200 FPS. Ok, now back to VR. Yup. The best performance I’ve seen since I embarked on an extensive tweaking and testing extravaganza. My VR performance was bottlenecking at the CPU , it still is, but using PL has resolved the random spikes and odd stutter I was seeing. My advice? Try the settings that come with the program first you may find it’s all you need. 👍🏻. The easiest way to manage DCS with process lasso is to pay for the program and then use the one click power profile setting for your exe files. The best setting I’ve found for DCS is Bitsum ultimate performance. But the whole program is great for running your PC more efficiently.
Hello, Where Can I find these default settings you mention? I mean "High" or "Ultimate Performance"? I installed PL and it did help me though I wish to try the options you mentioned. Thanks
Unfortunately this did not work for me. It made DCS unplayable. Frames were 1-15 on the main DCS page where normally the FPS is 120 on my system. The mouse was lagy and the mission would not load. I have a Core i5 12600K 3.7 GHz, 64ghz of DDR4 Ram, RTX 3070 gpu, and DCS is on a dedicated 2tb SSD. My stutters weren't really to bad and I thought this might help but sadly it did not. I did follow your instructions to the letter. Thanks for putting info like this out there.
There is still a missing piece to this puzzle. My E-cores have been disabled forever and I still need to disable a maxed out P-core once DCS is running and then re-enable it for DCS to be buttery smooth. There is a scheduling problem in the intel 14900k that effects DCS performance. Hopefully ED figures it out in the future.
Unparking your cores should fix it, Bitsum has a nice little program called ParkControl, use that to install the Bitsum Highest Performance power plan and use that power plan when you run DCS... Problem solved (hopefully, all the people I spoke to that tried this reported problem solved, me included)!
So, I already have a base PC, that's running on integrated right now, as I don't have the money to buy all parts at once, and I was considering the RTX 4070 ti super . What are your guy's thoughts on that GPU for DCS?
Yes it will, but for a different reason. The higher tier AMD CPUs can have multiple CCDs, basically clusters of cores, with a slow "infinity fabric" connection between them. You can use process lasso to lock DCS to a single CCD (the first half of your cores) so this slow infinity fabric is irrelevant. Further, their top X3D CPUs have huge cache on only one of their two CCDs. Flight simulators greatly benefit from the huge cache so you definitely want to lock DCS to the first CCD with the 7900x3D and 7950x3D. I've made a couple DCS forum posts about these issues, started over a year ago and worked directly with the developers. They can't do it right.
How is that possible with your specs? I'm running an old I7 6700K, 2080 Ti and 16GB RAM with almost everything maxed out in DCS? This makes me fear buying a new PC soon.
When I run Process Lasso lately all I see are affinity errors in the action log, even when I have no affinity rules running. What could be causing that?

Thanks
actually works holy crap! :) always struggled with stutters in the CH-47, ELIMINATED with this program! awesome :)
DCS was a stuttering mess on a brand new high end machine. Process Lasso solved it. All the thanks in the world Spudknocker and Process Lasso!!!
Holy crap! This made my VR so smooth!
So glad to hear it!
Do you open this before launching DCS and run in background or is a set and forget?
process lasso will always run in the background, once you've done what the tutorial says you can completely forget about it, but kep in mind that it will give oyu a very annoying popup everytime you start your computer
Great Video! You can also set the processor affinity with windows cmd. If you need more Process Lasso is a good tool. All the best!
Thanks Soud, this looks like a great solution. Just awesome.
@Spudknocker Could you also include a extra bit on how to add in the TrackIR or even a VR setting for this, or is that not needed?
Another awesome video from the fps boost guy himself!
VR is playable again, THANK YOU
hey @spudknocker ..weird question..but, what is the name of the song at intro?
The Pcores option has been removed since you uploaded this. What do you do??
Thanks Spud for your research. I will be implementing this for my 5800-3D.
How did it do?
If you have an AMD cpu you don't need this since every core is equivalent to a PCore, and you can set the DCS process to a higher priority directly in the Windows task manager.
On every start yeah, this keeps it.
Thank you for looking out for the DCS community Spud, always a helpful video.
I have the 14900k as well but have no problems but check your Bios for somthing called Gamers Legacey mode (or somthing like that) as on my Asus motherboard this will turn off the E-cores just by pressing "Scroll Lock" on the keyboard with no need for 3rd party software
Exactluy MSI pro series MBO also has simmilar
In summary:
Intel created a problem (ecores), which you have had to solve.
Just like Microsoft created a problem (Windows Defender), which you have had to solve.
It's notable how much time and effort you have had to spend, just to get normal performance back into your PC.
Excellent insight, much appreciated.
Do you have to run ProcessLasso in the background while playing DCS or can you just open ProcessLasso, change the settings, close it and never open it again?
im wondering the same. Did you find out the answer?
does process lasso needs to be open all thetime for it do wok?
Spud, great video. I used to run Lasso some time ago. After watch this video, I choose to reinstall it and running it with DCS and MSFS. Question, After installing Lasso and confining it for DCS, Task manager still shows CPU Cores as being parked. Are the Afinity setting equal to parking CPU Cores?
Thank you. Brilliant. Really appreciated tip. Works Brilliantly
One time test. Great! My problems seem solved. I will check better. Tank you very much.😀
Do we have to have launch Process Lasso everytime we run DCS to make this work?
Thanks Spud it worked for me.😄
you can do this even without process lasso just in the taskmanager i ve done high prio and affinity 0 to 7 i could not find any perfomance boost
Leave your feedback people ! Did you got more performance? You solved any problem? Did u run the dcs.exe from the vanilla folder or the MT folder?
I didn't notice a difference, but I run all AMD which has a different architecture than Intel and I think some Intel chips may differ. Doesn't matter what version of DCS/Program you use. Remember, you're tweaking the programs you want effected by this by running them in the background, so it shows up on Task manager or the program mentioned above "Lasso"
silly question, but does process lasso need to be open in the background while playing DCS or can it be closed once its been set up
You explained how to download Process Lasso and how to set up a DCS-profile.
Then what ?
Do I need to start PL before starting DCS ?
Do I manually select the profile ?
Can this be done automatically ?
Yup you can do this via the MT shortcut too. I have limited DCS to 4 Cores not all 12 and its a big big difference.
Good info to pass on to those in similar circumstances.
Does Process Lasso stay running in the BG (and start at boot) or do I need to start it and select the profile for DCS every time I load up DCS? Have you tried this with DCS in VR?
Following...
It will run in BG all the time. Once you get the settings for DCS put in, as soon as DCS loads process lasso will run it at Max
My specs for those with a similar rig and problems:
i9 13900k
4090
64gb RAM
Varjo Aero - running at "High" 35PPD
Before trying Lasso, running 35PPD would get stutters, 37 or 39 was a complete mess, even with DCS quality settings set to "VR quality". I'll be trying 39PPD and upping the DCS settings to see what's what.
Thank you. My PC is a beast yet stutters constantly. Just set this up and fingers crossed I can run without stutter
Let me know what your results are!
@Spudknocker it worked. In fact, I maxed out all the in-game options, which I always felt I should be able to run. There are no issues around the board. Huge thank you, I feel like I'm on an entire new sim.
Looks, I got a new project when I get home today. Hopefully this helps with the lag I get on the South Atlantic map.
Hopefully it helps!
South Atlantic seems to be more of a GPU hog than CPU. It always 99s my GPU at low altitude while CPU usage is the same as other maps.
It's the biggest map in the game it's huge compared to the others, but still needs more optimisation but they are working on it continuously
I still get the stutters after doing this. Not idea why
I9 14900KF
Rtx 4090
128gb ram
Too much stuff bro, need to downgrade, 3080, i7, 32gb of ram
jk of course
i think its the 14900. I run 13900k and it seems to run better with dlss off
I think the MT / DLSS + 4090 = "BUT, WHAT DO I DO WITH MY HANdS" I get better FPS with Priority set and Dlss off . same config with 13900k
Without MT Fps + with dlss on.
Try disabling your paging file in windows you have enough Ram to do this, if should help with stutters. Google how to do it it's easy
QUESTION: does it matter what shortcut for DCS we use?
for example.. multi-threaded or single-thread
or special shortcuts for VR?
There is only one DCS now. Even if you run beta multithread icon it's the same DCS as running stable. This was done to unify the player base.
@@thefinancier12 single and multi thread are still different builds
I've used process lasso for quite a while with DCS, but the biggest change came when I unparked the cores. 12700k/3090/32 DDR5
What is the best program for that, IYO?
The makers of Process Lasso have an app for that too.@@knutstrom1

I have 2 questions :
1 - What about if there no button "P-Cores" to click on (I have a RTX 2070 SUPER)
2 - Does all of this work with VR ?
Many thanks in advance
I think you can do the same thing to the cpu via the bios but for anything that you run.
Does the app need to be open while running DCS, or does it run in the background regularly?
Hey guys, what if I do not have a p-cores button? I have a I7 10700k CPU.
me too
I had a PC built around the RTX 4090. Is this an automated way to do this, and is it run at PC startup?
can you please show the performance boosts with us, coz I didn't see any actual improvement
I have the 14900k as well, didn't think I'm having any issues after the most recent bios update, however everyone told me I should do this anyways and I found your video. When I press "P Cores" it auto sets it to the first 15 cores not 7. I didn't manually change anything, have any recommendations?
i have additional hyperthreading options to disable thats not shown on your video. seems you disabled it in bios/uefi
Great vids!! How do you acticvate Game Turbo (High performance) ? Can`t find this under main - Active Power Profile.
1 Odd RED
2 Even BLUE
3 Odd RED
4 Even BLUE
5 Odd RED
6 EvenBLUE
Then each side gets own dedicated CPU core by the type.
1 = Player aircraft flight modeling
2 = Player aircraft sensors (radar, EOS etc)
3 = Every released missile, dropped bomb and fired rocket.
4 = Ground units AI
5 = Air units AI
6 = Every bullet trajectory fired
7 = Rest
You allocate each type to own groups based the available CPU threading or cores. So if you have 6 core + 2 threads per core processor, you have 12 processing units. That gives 6 for blue and 6 for red.
You can combine types to groups, example:
1
2
4+7+3
5+6
And now you have four processing groups, where each is put on own CPU thread processing.
So if ground unit gets stuck, it doesn't affect player sensors or flight modeling.
hey spud, i dont have the P-core option, so i just selected the first colum (cpu 0 - cpu 7), is this correct? i have an i7 11700K.
Same
Sir Should the app remain open in the background? Thks
Thanks, Do you have to do this every time you boot up DCS??
@Spudknocker What MBO you got under that madness?
Once configured, do I need to run Process Lasso before DCS.everytime?
That moment when you need an external software to get your game to a consistantly good performance. ED really has to put more attention to this.
With 4090 and 5800x3d DCS run butter smooth in VR even in large mp mission in Syria so I can't complain
@@ziosam850 Thank you for sharing

Not an ED thing is an Intel chipset plus windows I don't know what to prioritise thing. Not much ED can do until Microsoft and Intel come up with a better CPU core scheduling system. As it screws up choosing what e-core and P-core to use on most software not just DCS.
Most don't know about it though
My CPU has 24 cores and I don't see the option to set P cores.
Thanks for this video. But I don't know what to do with this program? I can do that more easily by hand.
Thanks
Can someone tell me if this program is good for what I'm having trouble with. Connections timed out and DCS crashes a lot?
Unfortunately this did not work for me. It made DCS unplayable. Frames were 1-15 on the main DCS page where normally the FPS is 120 on my system. The mouse was lagy and the mission would not load.
I have a Core i5 12600K 3.7 GHz, 64ghz of DDR4 Ram, RTX 3070 gpu, and DCS is on a dedicated 2tb SSD.
My stutters weren't really to bad and I thought this might help but sadly it did not. I did follow your instructions to the letter. Thanks for putting info like this out there.
Any idea if Process Lasso needs to be running on the background for this to work?
Hey, I have a problem. So when I go to cpu affinity, it doesn’t give me the option to select P cores, I get the option to stagger
Same
same
I have a rocket lake I7-11700k and I don't think they did E cores until 12th gen. same.
Iam on the 10700k and no P-cores or E-cores just the other 3 options Stagger-invert-clear avail. Thanks anyway I tried😢
I've got an i5-11400H, how can I know if doing these things will have a positive effect on my performance in DCS?
do you leave process lasso on while playing?
What about Ryzen CPUs .
So what type of increase did you get?
There is still a missing piece to this puzzle. My E-cores have been disabled forever and I still need to disable a maxed out P-core once DCS is running and then re-enable it for DCS to be buttery smooth. There is a scheduling problem in the intel 14900k that effects DCS performance. Hopefully ED figures it out in the future.
It affects all intel cpus from 1100 series onwards
And it's not an ED issue it's an Intel Microsoft issue. Windows 11 is better at working out the scheduling but not by much
Unparking your cores should fix it, Bitsum has a nice little program called ParkControl, use that to install the Bitsum Highest Performance power plan and use that power plan when you run DCS... Problem solved (hopefully, all the people I spoke to that tried this reported problem solved, me included)!
amazing video again. Thanks!!
Ryzen 7 7800x 3d & MSI Slim 4090 undervolt 0.9 DCS all settings on high no stutters over 100fps consistently and over 60fps in VR 🎉
Hi, do you use Dcs or dcs MT ?
So, I already have a base PC, that's running on integrated right now, as I don't have the money to buy all parts at once, and I was considering the RTX 4070 ti super . What are your guy's thoughts on that GPU for DCS?
Does this work for AMD CPUs too, @Spud?
I dont see why not, but I am not an expert on AMD CPUs and if they have E-Cores vs P-Cores
if they have performance and efficiency cores, yes
No this would not help as found looking up specs as of January 23, 2024 "AMD's Ryzen processors don't have "P-cores" and "E-cores" "
Thanks! Is the cache also an issue with the 5800x3d ?@@Specter0420
would this be useful for a ryzen 7900x?
How is that possible with your specs? I'm running an old I7 6700K, 2080 Ti and 16GB RAM with almost everything maxed out in DCS? This makes me fear buying a new PC soon.
Do you have to run it every time you reboot before playing?
No, only if you want to change it
Damn, was hoping for a stuttering fix. I guess this doesn't really work on the 7950x NON-3D CPU's.
When I run Process Lasso lately all I see are affinity errors in the action log, even when I have no affinity rules running. What could be causing that?
windows lol
