    I know I already made a video on Process Lasso, but due to popular demand, I wanted to make a deep dive into how to tweak CPU affinity. It is extremely dependent on what CPU you have and how many extra cores you have to spare, so knowing what general situation you are in via this video hopefully helps. As always, thank you so much for the support :)

    Thank you so much for watching! I hope this helped some of you figure out how to schedule processes around and, as always, ensure you know what tasks you are moving to what threads. Be careful not to go overboard with scheduling! Please ask away in the discord or streams if you have any questions and links are in the more section if you need additional info / downloads!

    Back in Shattered Horizon's heyday, one of the devs told me to disable core 0 for that game to improve performance. Years ago one of the devs from Process Lasso created a Window 7 specific program just for me (I honestly can't remember what it was for XD), that he later made sharable on their site. Good devs for sure.

    Hi man, first, MANY THANKS for the guide.
    I have an 8700k, thus, 6 cores.
    I tend to run only tarkov, so no browser, discord, or anything heavy. Does it make sense to allocate 1 full core for other stuff in background (nvidia control panel, logitech ghub, razor synapse, basically, software for my hardware) and the other 5 for tarkov, or all 6 to tarkov as the rest of the softwares doesn't need much?
    Probably this would defeat the affinity, no? As in this way they would not be solely for tarkov...

    7800x3d Tarkov:
    I usually had it on disable SMT with just the physical cores running. There was little to no diferrence just having all cores checked with Tarkov. Small improvement at most.
    -tested in multple live scav raids
    -with the 7800x3d I couldve just left it on all cores and the difference would be minimal...but when you have recording software, streaming, and other stuff going on... allocating cores helps a lot.

    How do we know about how much cores should we give to the processes? You've said like in 17:14 you don't recommend browsers to be on just one core. I have a i9-9900k which has 8 cores - 16 threads. I was thinking about giving only CPU 0-1-2-3 to background processes like Discord, Chrome, GHub etc. and giving the remaining cores to Tarkov specifically. Will 2 cores be enough for all of the background processes?

      Two cores may still be a little slow as daemon said. It depends on the task. Chrome and discord will suck on one or two cores, but background tasks or RGB apps will be fine on one or two. For example, Corsair ICue or Razer or Steelseries or Logitech apps you should be fine with on one or two cores, but having apps that you specifically interact with a lot (browsers, discord, etc), may be slightly sluggish if those cores are maxxing out.

      @klemintime1452  Месяц назад

      Sorry for the long wait in reply, but I would not disable hyperthreading. However, if you'd like to, you can do it by following these steps:
      1. If you want to have the game attempt to run on all 16 cores without hyperthreading, simply check "Disable SMT".
      2. If you'd like to have hyperthreading disabled and only have the game run on the CCD with V-cache (aka the first 6 cores), go to the CPU's affinity and check the even numbers between 0-15. If done correctly, you should have checked 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14. Then, all you need to do is apply!

    I have an i12700kf with 8 hyper-threaded P-cores and 4 E-cores and when i look in afterburner while running tarkov it seems like tarkov only ever uses one core at a time. for example one core will be at 90%+ usage and the rest will be under 5%. It seems to randomly periodically change which core it is using. This makes me confused whether I am being bottle-necked by my CPU because the one core is maxed out but the rest of the cores are doing nothing.

  • @ones9308
    @ones9308 4 месяца назад

    Tarkov is a funny game, since it's kinda CPU heavy, but at the same time it only uses like 4 threads out of 16 on my i9 11900k. And it also choses threads starting with number 8, when the first two cores should be the most high performing cores with all the in built OC tech enabled according to Intel's website.

  • @wilihey1425
    @wilihey1425 14 дней назад

    i've never seen any performance comparisons with these tweaks, from my experience doing it on multiple cpus theres always a performance decrease for a marignal decrease in process latency, i never saw this as worth, its very game dependent too, on csgo at the time putting all processes on threads and the game on physical core would net -100 fps from the max, reserving the first 2 physical cores to handle processes and the rest (4 cores at the time) would also destroy performance, running everything on all cores would be the best performance, in every game i've tested, maybe it would help on heavily bottlenecked systems where it would give you slightly more headroom but i never had any good from doing this

    • @klemintime1452
      @klemintime1452  13 дней назад

      Good point. It sounds like you probably keep a fairly tidy system, hence why the benefit is less apparent. The main reason why I discuss this is NOT for systems that are light / debloated. Rather, it can be a useful tool for those who have lots of things running in the background and need to insure proper scheduling of those extra tasks to keep performance *conisistent*, even if its a little lower. I would also concede that it would be more beneficial to remove that software, but not everyone is willing to do that. This reasoning is why I personally do not have any benchmarks of it- I would need to build a separate system that has more "normal" levels of extra software to test it out. (Also, there are recorded instances of this software helping others in my PC Sherpa Live VODs if you are interested.)
      Secondarily, do note the example with dual-ccd CPUs, for instance. In that scenario (especially with CPUs like the 7900x3d and 7950x3d), proper scheduling is ESSENTIAL to getting the right performance, and process lasso can enforce that automatically as well. Its not for everyone, but it can help those who do not have a "optimized" system, so to speak.

      Sorry for the super late reply, but that would just be disabling hyperthreading. If that's what you want to do, then that's good. However, if you just want to say disable the first core for Tarkov, you uncheck 0 and 1, as there are two threads going to one core.

      I think I would disable the highest utilized and clocked core in Tarkov for background tasks. Usually core 1, 2 or 3 is that core. You can find out using Ryzen Master and that core will have a star next to it.

    • @klemintime1452
      @klemintime1452  4 месяца назад

      Essentially I'd disable the first hyperthreaded CPU core, so CPU 0 and CPU 1. Since windows tasks or other background tasks sometimes are scheduled on that thread, it makes "room" for those tasks to be on that thread. Then, you can move background software like peripheral apps (razer synapse, corsair i-cue, logitech-ghub, etc).

    • @klemintime1452

      Sort of, its more like setting tarkov to everything but the first, and setting some non-essential background tasks (i.e RGB software or peripheral software such as Corsair ICUE or Logitech GHub) to the first core. You don't want to have tasks that you commonly interact with only on the first core- only things that run in the background. Having say discord (as an example) on one core will make using it extremely slow and choppy; so its not recommended.

  • @jakf101

    How much could you really put on your ecores without running into system lag? For example I have put firefox, steam, discord and a few other minor programs on them so far. Tarkov I have just tried turning off cpu 0 and cpu 1. I have i7 13700k so a decent cpu and my gpu is a 4090 and 64gb ddr5 ram. Windows 11 has been a bit sluggish at times and it can sometimes freeze randomly for 2 seconds when I open a program so I thought I would see if putting programs on the ecores could help with that but I think it is a bug with windows 11 as it never happened with windows 10. Would I likely see any benefit sorting things out with process lasso with my rig?

    • @klemintime1452
      @klemintime1452  4 месяца назад +1

      If those apps are only on the e-cores, it can feel very slightly more sluggish, but with them on those e-cores you will not have to worry about them interfering with the game at all. HOWEVER; be careful with what apps youre putting on those e-cores. Do not sort crucial windows processes around that are associated with SYSTEM as that could be making your browsing slugging (for instance with dwm.exe that could be an issue). Keep it to extra apps you've installed on the system to avoid issues like that.

    Been playing around with this program for a couple of weeks ,and watched many videos , just a question about cores and how to make your pc work with them ( i have i7-8700) which is a bit underwhelming for this game and having so much input lag with 1080Ti ( still rocks all shooting games ) but for some reason this game is a pain and dont want to spend money atm for an upgrade.
    My question is can you check the Cores ( my case 6 cores +6 hyperthreading ) for the game , i currently tried a guide where i put all the pc programs that are running ( excluding system) on first 3 cores ( ie 2 cores - 1 hyperthread) and tarkov on the rest cores, where everything is quite and stable for tarkov to run, does this helps a bit with my rig or not.
    Also having a 16gb 3000 Ram , which can be upgraded to 32gb 4000hrz rams which is the max for my MB atm z370-h gaming , would it make a huge difference or just minor?

      RAM Speed will help, but it will not be the same amount of gain that you'd see with a CPU upgrade. I'd honestly save the money and use that to upgrade your motherboard and CPU to get a much more modern platform. The 1080ti should do just fine in Tarkov with a more modern processor.
      As far as process lasso, give tarkov at least 4 of the 6 hyperthreaded cores- its going to want them. I'd personally recommend doing 5 and then sorting out the first core for background tasks (but not chrome or discord, for instance) and seeing how that helps.

      Currently if i get a new CPU it needs MB + DDR5 Ram cuz mine are ddr4 so its a huge deal of money lol , but saving for it is a must i guess , 1080Ti helped me thro all the fps games smoothly no idea tarkov is running on spaghetti engine or what lol .

    You forget that you can name the cpu affinity rules... for example of you have 2 CCD's and you wan't an application to run only on on CCD1, you make an affinity rule and when you want a process to run on just CCD1, just click cpu affinity -> always -> CCD1

      Its an 8 core, so you can try the 8 core section (everything except the first hyperthreaded core) and see how that feels.

      CPU but you should be getting good enough fps anyway

      Neither you have the best possible CPU for Tarkov and a 4090 which the game doesn't even nearly fully utilise. You could legit have a 3080 and still get the same/very similar frames.

      It really depends on your CPU. If its not powerful enough, Streets is gonna hurt, no matter what GPU you have (mostly).

      If you aren't on Intel's 12th through 14th gen processor, you will not see those buttons. If you *are*, your CPU may not be equipped with any e-cores as its lower in the product stack (i.e 12400f, 13100f, etc)

      @@ArmagedonCS Though this is the case for the games he benchmarked, its different on a game by game difference. Its not always a constant "no" or a "yes"; it differs depending on what you're doing and your own setup. Furthermore he is likely benchmarking without the background tasks that process lasso is meant to control. I was not just talking about setting tarkov only to P-cores either, as I did also see slight reductions in doing so when I benched it a while back. This video simply has a different purpose.
