    I enjoyed the comparison. I bought the Pelegos LHD, because I’m a lefty-at least that’s how I rationalized it. It’s “look” is entirely different than the blue one, and just instantly resonated with me. It’s my “daily driver” for 1.5 years now, and it still brings me enormous pleasure.

    I have Pelagos from 30.12.2020. I was heading for North Flag, but I tried Pelagos and Black Bay P01. I was surprised at how light Pelagos was, despite his size. I haven't had a titanium watch before. Pelagos is not my type of watch, but something happened. I liked it and with each passing day I like it more and more. This is not a watch like love at first sight. However, it is its simplicity, which you can not get enough of, that makes you like it more and more. It is obvious that it is made according to all the rules of perceptions - reduce to the maximum. What is most impressive, however, is the accuracy of the movement - in the first month it worked with an accuracy of -1.4 seconds. per day. Now he is 5.5 seconds behind for 16 days, regardless of the position in which he lies. Unbelievable.

    Great constructive review Adrian. I've tried both watches at an AD (the pelagos was an LHD in black) and I really like the Pelagos in blue from photographs but prefer the LHD version in black and for what it is, a tool watch it does all that I'd want. No pizzazz it just does the job incredibly well. The bracelet is incredibly functional and easy to use for us mere mortals as well. The lume of the hands and ceramic bezel it incredible . The in house movement with 70 hours reserve and COSC certification at the price is a real plus also. This watch does what it needs to do for a purpose and it does it really well.
    The Omega is something different though, that white dial with the waves is something that you really need to see in the flesh, it's simply a work of art in different lighting conditions, the black skeleton hands, the black ceramic bezel with white inlay is just gorgeous in my humble opinion. The bracelet with the on the fly push to fit is great as well. The Omega is the more versatile watch given the case and lug shape along with that dial with the date at 6. The tooth paste cap at 10 is easily forgotten on the wrist. It;'s a heritage thing at the end of the day.
    In summary, if you need a watch to do the job the Pelagos would take my hard earned cash. But if you want something more versatile and have the extra money the Omega would be the one to shrink my bank account. Given a choice I'd want both.

    I’ve owned a Pelagos and currently have the black dialed Seamaster. I love both, but the Omega is technically on another level with the coax. I agree that Tudor has the better bracelet, but the Omega is still quite good in that regard. I think the Omega is significantly more wearable and flexible. Also, I think you may have missed a trick by not showing either on their respective rubber straps. The Omega is KILLER on its OEM rubber

    I own the blue Pelagos -- There is something about the stark simplicity and contrast of the dial and bezel. It also feels rugged and reliable. It's my go-to tool watch. It also keeps miraculously impeccable time. That said, I do admit to checking out the white seamaster videos. I love everything about it - except that helium escape valve at the 10 o'clock position. It's the one visual feature that I can't get past. Also - like you, I'm not a fan of the non-tapering braclet. Cheers - Dennis

There's only one scratch I notice - it's on the curved vertical side near the crown. It's a great watch and keep very accurate time. Now if Tudor would just make a kelly green Pelagos and Titanium. Better yet a not flat bezel and a sunray dial.

    The Omega is a real looker. The dial sometimes is shiny, sometimes not. The ceramic details on the bezel really pop, even better than the sub and are flush which is a real bonus. Just an all around more fun watch to look at in different lighting conditions. Let’s face it, we all love to look at our watches and on the front and back, the Omega is just better looking.

    1. Advantage Pelagos for weight on the wrist (titanium vs. steel).
    2. Advantage Pelagos for better integration of the HEV.
    3. Advantage Pelagos for better legibility (snowflake vs. skeleton, tho both polarizing).
    4. The Pelagos is actually 41mm at the case. You stated such in your review. The 2-liner is also thinner if you can find one. Advantage Pelagos.
    5. Not sure why you gave the plus to Omega's 25,200 BPH over Tudor's 28,800 BPH. A higher beat rate AND 15 more hours PR is damn impressive.
    6. I think 22mm straps are as ubiquitous as 20mm. 18mm, 19mm, 21mm and 24mm are where you see a tapering off.
    Ultimately, I own one of each... although my SMP is the 2230.50 so I get the benefit of sword hands AND applied indices, in a thinner case without sacrificing a COSC movement. Also added the micro-adjustable clasp to the tapering Speedy bracelet, so no loss of usability there.

      This is wrong, people need to stop saying this. You have three notches of adjustment and that's all. The spring is too tight to comfortably flex around your wrist when it expands. Something I've just noticed is that the waves wouldn't twinkle when on the wrist rotating forward and backwards (horizontal). But pointing up or downwards (vertically) would really make the waves sparkle. So now I'm walking everywhere doing a bee gees night fever arm motion just for effect! 😃

      I tried on both at the AD a couple of weeks ago, both were absolutely stunning , I loved the bracelet on both but the Tudor was a bit nicer, I actually loved the waves on the Seamaster and that is what I'm wearing. I tried to get the model without the Helium escape valve and the salesperson smiled and said it didn't exist. As a first time customer for Omega I would suggest they get rid of that Helium escape valve and make it a bit smaller. I like the fact that Omega was a little busier than the Tudor, Tudor seemed a bit bland for my taste. At the end of the day I love my Seamaster.

    Love my Pelly LHD even far more than I loved the standard 5-line black Pelagos I had since March 2016, and I LOVED that last Pelly every day I owned her (she was my daily wear in the office and while diving). Interestingly, the first expensive diver I owned many years ago (mid-90s) was the Seamaster Pro Chrono, which I wore (again as my daily office and dive watch) until 2016 when I moved to the Pelagos. NOW... still LOVE my LHD, but I have to admit I'm sorely tempted to add a Seamaster NTTD (only thing stopping me is the 007 branding on the case back -- oh, and the price!) to the rotation.

  • @grantchallinor5263
    @grantchallinor5263 4 года назад +14

    I would say that, even if the Tudor cost as much as the Omega, there's a cigarette paper between both watches in terms of quality. It's really down to personal preference.
    In terms of the movements, the METAS certification was announced about 6 years ago, and, to my mind, is as much a marketing exercise (as much as anything) initiated by the Swatch group for Omega watches.This is why only Omega watches are METAS certified - because this is (essentially) an Omega certification done "independently" through METAS. Hence, why would any other brands want/be able to do the same.
    Brands like Omega, Rolex and Tudor usually test their watches above and beyond COSC level anyway.

    The white dial of the Seamaster is what makes the difference aesthetically (even among the Seamaster line). it's just stunning. Also, the finish of the dial. The printing on the Pelagos is a bit 'fluffy' - admittedly not very obvious with the naked eye and from more than a foot away, however there is a reason the Omega is pricier.

    I tried on a Pelagos last year before I bought the BB58 Black. Can you beleive it, the salesman in the AD said, "those watches are not normally worn by women" ~ true story. So I didn't get it. In fact, I wrote an email to the store the following week telling them of my experience. They called me and offered me a BB58 on the Nato the next day. It wasn't my intension at all other than to say women can rock larger watches.
    Funny thing is now I have and wear my Black Omega SMP (technically the same demographic as the Pelagos) more than the BB58 Black :) .
    The blue dial on the Pelagos is amazing!! I found he watch, while big, wears a lot lighter than the SMP due to the titanium. Having said that, now I have the SMP I wouldn't swap or trade for a Pelagos.
    Thanks Adrian, this was a great comparison video.

    Great vid. Love these two watches. I wonder how the Pelagos would do going through METAS testing. Very well I think. I suspect the reason not to put it through is COSC is already a high standard, and the expense it would add to the watch, as it does with the Omega.
    My Peli is my fav watch 😁👍🏻

    • @michaelcheshareck3275
      @michaelcheshareck3275 3 года назад +1

      My Pelagos is stunningly accurate, dead on over the last 61 days. I believe Tudor regulates their watches to -3S to +3S a day, so they go beyond COSC and many users report stunning accuracy. My Seamaster Pro is also very accurate, but more like off between 5-10 seconds a month. So quite a bit better than the rating, just not freaky accurate like my Pelagos. I have no doubts that the Omega can handle magnetic fields better than the Pelagos, and the movement is nice to look at through the sapphire case back. Both are great watches.

    Had both and chose the Pelagos. As someone who dives frequently with my watches, the Pelagos just functions better as a dedicated dive watch when compared to the seamaster.
    Some of the main points(IMO):
    1. Bezel is easier to operate when wet
    2. Spring clasp allows watch to fit snug at different depths around your wet suit (volume of wet suit actually changes at different depths due to water pressure)
    3. Lumed bezel insert helps with night dives
    4. Legibility of hands underwater
    Overall the seamaster to me is more of a dress diver than an actual diver. Which is why I ended up keeping the Pelagos instead!

    • @chriszivoder2650

    Finally getting around to this one. Test driving the Pelagos now (borrowed) from a friend incredibly nice to send it to me. The blue/matte finish seems very divisive but I love it. Need to try on a Seamaster though I don’t love the scalloped edges of the Omega bezel visually even though they serve a purpose obviously. I could easily see that being a very favorable visible attribute to some, however. There’s also something very 90’s TAG about the Omega bracelet design but I may be over thinking it. Haha. Great vid per usual, my man!

    Hey Adrian, I have the Pelagos FXD and Omega diver 300 (green dial). They are both amazing. The 300 probably wins on specs and finish but I don't think the FXD was ever supposed to go against it and of course is cheaper.
    Things I would change about the 300: Get rid of the He valve, I play with it and it doesn't bother me, but also not needed and would improve the overall look. I can understand it is part of the watch DNA and that it probably won't ever go. I don't mind the non tapering bracelet and in fact I am used to it now, in a lot of ways it is superior to any Rolex bracelets I have, but I would get rid of the diver extension and have an extra 8 or 9 mm of micro adjustment. I would like the date to go, but that is so well done it also doesn't bother me. The Omega symbol would be nice if it was applied. Increased power reserve. And the only other thing would be quick release bracelet / straps.
    I think what Omega are doing is special and whilst I will usually chose Rolex over them, there is a massive case for Omega to claim they are making superior watches.

    Fantastic comparison - but while the jewel count can show you the complexity of a watch, it doesn't necessarily function as a good indicator of quality. Manual wind movements tend to have less jewels because they don't have the automatic complication, and hence have less pivots that need to be jeweled. That doesn't mean manual wind movements are inferior to automatics or chronographs though.

    I’ve owned both piece’s, blue pelagos and black sea master. The Pelagos was much more enjoyable to me. I think it came down to the bracelet and wearability. The initial honeymoon with omega was fun with the presentation and certifications/website, but at the end of the day I just never bonded with it. First, the bracelet drove me BONKERS. I didn’t like the aesthetic of it, particularly the railroad appearance and no taper. Granted I had owned the pelagos and several rolex and Tudor watches prior so I think my expectations were high. Second, the skeleton hands. Not for me. Surprisingly, I actually otherwise enjoyed the more jewelry appearance of the shiny ceramic face and bezel which I know is polarizing. The pelagos was a joy of a tool/dive watch, and actually the most accurate of all watches I have owned to this day. My only real knock is the titanium is just soft and prone to bumps and bruises. It was also a bit hard to dress up, particularly in the blue variant. Otherwise great value IMO, with a suppper bracelet. Now that I’ve picked up a bunch of straps and gone away from being almost exclusively a bracelet guy maybe I’ll revisit the omega. I do like what omega is doing with the bracelet on the speedy, as that was another watch where I didn’t love the bracelet.
