- All of the hill climb videos i could find from the last year and a half. Sorry if your bus missed the edit. This took hours to find all the clips and I’m sure i missed a couple. Detroit diesel 71 and 92 series mostly with a few other memorable vehicles climbing the hill too. It’s steeper in real life than it looks on video. The grade varies from 20-25% throughout the climb.

The musical Wanderlodges was the best thing I've seen yet. Nearly fell out of my chair with the Rocky Theme bus. No surprise Allison Transmission wins the day.
Scott, you should do a high-level overview video of the different Detroit Diesel series motors you work on, and what differentiates them from each other. This would help novices better understand their nuances, heritage, and plusses/minuses of each series.
Agree - one of your novices.
I’d love that
Agree
Almost all the engines he works on are for the most part identical... 71 and 92 series engines are identical the 92 series is just has a larger bore. He does also occasionally work on a 53 series which is very very similar but smaller bore. The rest of the variations depend more on age than which series it is, so 2 valve, and old and new 4 valve heads, turbo or not, trunk pistons or crosshead pistons... a 53 series with trunk pistons can turn very high RPMS (not rated factor but it can do it with proportionally worse wear) crosshead pistons reduce wear and oil consumption.... etc... you can also vary the port height and positioning depending on the engine setup. Anyway so even though a ton of stuff is interchagable on these engines (well not between bore sizes for heads and pistons and liners but you get the idea all the other stuff mounted on the engine is).
That Greyhound deck and a half had the best sound. Definitely an 8v71.
I remember when Liberty Lines had GMC Buffalo buses
Always loved the lines of the old scenic cruisers, with the raised seating area.
The quintessential Greyhound bus!
Yes! Awesome video, glad we made the cut! What a great sound hearing all those engines working climbing that hill!
Tyler's bus has a great engine! I hope we get to hear it more soon,
Great video!! I must say though that my respect for the monsters of my childhood has grown exponentially. In my native hometown of Caracas, Venezuela, there was a hilly bus route with gradients steeper than this one, and which included a hairpin bend and another chassis-twister uphill bend to the right. Only one type of bus could manage it: early fifties REOs with gasoline Gold Comet six cylinder engines, which did it with full loads several times per day, every day for nearly 25 years. Unforgettable beasts.
I could watch trucks and busses on this hill all day long. The Scenic Cruiser is beautiful 🥰
And here I am again in awe...watching those 2strokes scream to the top. I want one! Just don't tell the Cummins in my GMC General I said that. lol 😋
Loved every second of that all them bus's sounded amazing going up Bus Grease Mountain thanks Scott enjoyed it as always
That was as much fun as watching the repairs!!! Loved it!!
I’m smiling through the whole hill pull video!
That hilltop must be getting awfully crowded ;)
I miss so much when we had the RTS buses with the 6V92 engines. We used to have some very steep hills in NYC. And those engines used to scream
That country song of yours is Legit! Belongs on the radio.
Was never a doubt that the trailer pulling 7.3 Powerstroke could make it. It was digging in and working it. Sounded awesome.
You found the perfect place to build a shop and hill climb of shame, don’t make it up, drop a thousand in repairs😊
Scott, this gave me miles of smiles, loved it!!!
I've watched most of your videos and this is a new favorite! I can't stop smiling.
I like how you kill skeeters😍
The musical wanderlodges are the best thing since sliced bread lol!
Rule number one for climbing Grease monkey hill, put the pedal to the metal.
Rule two: see rule one.
I think I have watched every one of your videos and I was surprised at the number of buses that have been on your Mt.
Wow. You be busy!!! This video give a little perspective of just how much work you guys really do. It ain't easy.
Looking at this video give an idea of how much progress you have accomplish on your property, something to be proud of 👍
Great stuff, I like you old bus doing the hill, but the science's are great, I do wish I could have one in the UK, preferably an old one like your one, fantastic, Peter.
The Ford Super duty truck pulling that large container is only making a cameo appearance in this video. Power stroke engine right there........ definitely not a V-series😊😊
I love that greyhound.... love the way there made you no.... thanks for sharing
I love'em all. My favorite is the one with the big black puff of smoke at the beginning of the charge up.
What a variety of buses, great vid Scott.
Great montage of them going up the hill bro. Safe travels up your way
Like the bus treadmill!😀☝️ And a great way to get your driveway compacted 😉👍
Rocky theme! Hilarious!
That was fun watching them make the climb. The Wanderlodges were hysterical with the music. That would make a hell of a soap box derby hill.
Always looking forward to watching ur video's keep up with the positive work u guy's do
I love the sound as they go up the hill .
Well done Scott Kelly and Tyler look how far the place has come someday I hope to climb that mountain the best was the wonder lodge with the rocky theme song playing.
Tyler's bus went up that thing like a rocket!
That was fun. I used to drive a Terex Clay hauler back in the 80's that sounded like a lot of those. Also an old Euclid with a Stick shift and maybe one gauge. LOL. But the best were the orange Mack trucks with the exhaust that vented out the back of the bed. Very cool sound. Mack Motor.
Interesting compilation that was fun to watch. Thanks.
The dump. I remember that one when you first started the property. I've been there, "running out of truck", before hill! The property, has come a long way!
Great vid, love the new song...Keep on Wrenching!!
That was fun....I remember here in Tacoma WA. I would ride with my Grandpa in the transit bus, he was a transit driver and this was back in the 60s with just a side mount strait 6 I think it was a gas engine.... and we would go down to Titlow Beach, but had to go another way out because the buses could not make it up the long hill. I have pictures of the buses somewhere...He would bring home stuff that he found on the bus all the time.... good times
Benefits of driving buses and working on a garbage truck. Bringing home the best trash! Do you realize that if you go to enough yard sales eventually you'll buy your old crap back for more than you unloaded it for! lol
I never comment on anything.. but this is sweet! Go rocky!
I'm in the UK and this is top content again 😎💖👍👍👍👍
One of your best vids. You work on them we want to hear them work.
It's almost like ASMR. This is really nice.
Love the sound
Just sat through 30 minutes of old buses climbing a big hill ... 👍🏻😁
Scott only 40,000 buses to go you will touch them all thank you🙏🏼❤️
For something so repetitive, that was so cool to see them all (try to) go up the hill.
One question though, did “zippy do da” tow the truck up the hill or was it pushing him… 🤣🤣🤣
That is some sweet Detroit music. I always wonder when a tag axle bus is gonna break loose and start spinning, or a straight drive run out of power. Love your chanel.
Love the video AND the new song
What a beautiful part of the world you live in.
I can work out from the engine sound what I think the engine config is (i.e. v6, v8, i6) but it would be lovely to know the mass vs horsepower for each candidate.
Love your channel.
would like to see you work on a crown, last bus i drove was a '67 crown super coach, she could climb mountains like nothing, she was a 10 speed! no load i'd start in 3rd, with a load, i had to work all the gears uphill!! touched the clutch taking off and when we came to a stop, she also had a jake brake! when i left that outfit they parked her, none of the young bucks could drive her cause she was a "stick!", was sorry to leave her!
Had a 6n71 in a gmc brigadier 8yd single piston dump air tailgate with 10 speed roadranger. Best advice I got was to " Drive it like you hate it!". So long as you dropped gears and let it scream it would climb anything. Lug it and you were in BIG trouble. Best truck I'm ever owned. Best sounding engine ever made. Dream ride would be a short GM bus with Detroit and a 10spd roadranger or a super 10 trans. I'd be in seventh heaven.
From my time as an earthmoving mech, I remember the Detroit powered dump trucks would scream away from the hopper, but got left for dead on the incline. Sounded great though...
The rocky music got me rewinding
My o my what a wonderful day
That RTS was changing gears uphill. Not too shabby
hi there gm i like ur vids takes me back to my youth i was in the navy sea bees a trex doser 333 8v71 blew up in the shop there was so much smoke a sea bee was injured real bad he died for what he was 19 yrs old shame on us navy late....
Not sure why I get goose bumps when I hear that song..to be honest it's with both songs...and you see them old behemoths climbing bus grease mountain...just does something to ya..and Lenny...he was a bit nervous the first time...second time he didn't give no shits..at all... he wanted to show daddy he still had it...nice vid
Nothing runs like a CAT.
Name that road "Dynamometer Hill".
Why do all these Bus's make me smile???
Time mark 8:39 - An MCI A series . Beeline had these with the single rear axle........no tag axle
I could tell which Detroits had the “T” in their engine code lol
Hello from kurre sweden :)
Surprised the dump truck didnt make it
Tires were spinning if you look close
@@BusGreaseMonkey lot of ponies to spin loaded truck tires. Unless muddy or somethin. Really like the buses still resemble greyhound
Ok but that purple RTS 😰🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
That’s the ultimate dyno.
Finally, old tractor is the winer
Was hoping to see the Texas Rescue bus in there!
Commercial engines have really come a super long way!!!
A Series 50 would speed right up that hill like its nothing.
And a current Cummins X12 would speed up these hills even faster
I'm late what LED sponsor did I miss
Come on Lenny! You can do it!!
More fun is to watch these 40,000 lb buses go DOWN that steep hill. Bet those were some WILD rides!
Never had any issues going down
Hiding from the Snap On man 😂
“Annnddd heeesss on it…!”
Sounds like purple bus had a ZF trans?
Awesome video also
Wow most got what it takes
please keep the videos coming
Which one surprised you the most, either with the ease it did it or with the struggle you didn’t expect?
I'm guessing it's not just about power, but driver skill, too.
Bus visual Overload 🥴😳😅☮
Hey Scott,
Lenny still looks the best climbing the hill.
Be Proud Sir.😉
I’d like to see and hear a Bristol RELL on that hill. It would walk it!
Scott you must have a camp grounds for all of those buses
Sooner or later one of these ol girls is going puke her guts our trying to climb this hill. I just hope Scott catches it on video.... ;)
lol that was fun
I feel like a stalker now, and you didn't even put all my hill climbs on there!
I was going to say… has Flixy Lady climbed the hill more than Lenny? 😮
Yes
Looks like those truck videos taken in Indonesia lol.
Thanks for the long hours putting this compilation together. Loved re-living those moments of suspense. I only wish Lenny had made it the first time, poor fella. I guess he is the oldest bus to make the climb?
The 1st run was w/o propane.
Are there any modified Detroit engines that have tried the hill?
This is fantastic to watch. I’m just a bit confused as to why some of these buses are struggling though. I drive a double decker with up to 90 passengers on, up steeper hills than this. Including stopping and pulling away again, and they never struggle like some of these 🤔
What type of double deckers? And tbh a lot of the buses on this are really old, at least id hope that's a the case!
Dyno hill drive, you can’t make we will fix it so you can!
Heavyweight Hill Climbs😃
What is the percent grade of that hill (or slope angle degree)?
That is a pretty mean hill! Makes me wonder if our Eagle could make that climb. 🤔
What engine/transmission do you have? Just curious
8v71 with Allison automatic.
WOW< This is exciting...LOL
To my mind, a big drawback to the two stroke Detroits is that they have to be "kept on the boil". If the RPM drops much, the blower doesn't move enough air to keep producing power. In other words, they lack good "lugging" ability. A turbo 4 cycle Diesel, on the other hand, will produce good power when lugged down because boost comes more from exhaust flow than the amount of air being blown in, unlike a two stroke. More fuel injected means more exhaust flow to keep the turbo spinning at lower RPM. Try running down the hiway at 1200-1400 RPM in a 2 stroke Detroit!
