We do the same exact thing and it's worked like a charm for almost 10 years! Paid clean-outs with HUGE bonuses is not a new concept. Just surprised by the number of people that don't do it.
That Hoarder house seems relatively OK, but I've watched "Hoarders" and a lot of the time it's full of dead mice, dead cats, poop, etc. Are you able to pick and choose to only do the ones that aren't a biohazard?
First let me say you are such a great guy to share what you do knowing that it can help other people to survive. The world needs more people like you! I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart. I've been following your videos recently since I was injured & can't work right now; I like the ideas you share on reselling. On to my my questions: 1-I detect an accent, where are you originally from? Are all people there as nice as you?2- Do people keep hoarding until they can't fit anymore in the house so they decide to move or do they still live in the houses you clean and just one day decide to get rid of it all ? I can't imagine why people wouldn't at least try to resell their things..so they can keep buying more stuff instead of giving it away! It's mind-blowing! thanks
Clean Outs are the Best ! Free merchandise , I've done that with a partner in the past , all profit ! Also storage clean outs, ;) ThumbZ UP Brother !!!
Hey, thanks for inviting me to your channel. My husband and I dumpster dive at retail stores, appt complexes (certain ones) and pick up scrap here and there as well as whatever we can find to use or share with a pay it forward group. Just wondering if you had to be licensed for this business and how do you get started? Who would you talk to about getting some jobs? Did you find the job on Craigslist maybe? Sorry for all the questions, we are both treasure hunters in all sense of the word so this would be right up our alley. Thank you so much for the help. I can say one thing, at least it was a clean hoarder.. how do you deal with poop and stuff like that? I'm sure you run into that as well.
Hi Thanks for watching and your comment yes you do have to be license and insured most of my jobs come from referrers from real estate agents and my website www.JunkPlatoonUSA.com you more than welcome to check it out. Building a good website and optimizing it takes time and money but its well worth it if you are series about it. The easy way to star and get your feet wet is to put some ads on Craigslist for junk removal and I will guarantee you will get some calls. If you have any questions just ask I'll be glad to help. Thanks and good luck.
Thanks so much for writing me back. We did a little research earlier after watching your video and see that you have to be licensed and bonded. We'll be looking into it, but one thing is for sure, it will take time because you definitely need a building, OR you will become a hoarder yourself LOL. I give so much away now, just to keep stuff out the landfill. I am a treasure hunter at heart so this is what makes me hunt. The thrill of it all.. and of course the nice income you can get from what you find. Thank you again, I'm going to watch the rest of your videos and also look at the site :)
I also have done this a few times. Working a full time job stopped me from doing this all of the time. Now retired we are actually looking into doing some of this again. Found many buried treasures. Awesome videos!
+TheGatorMan Picker If you are in the states, think about doing this. All income is averaged over years through SS. Many of the seniors who come to me make this mistake. Men who worked their asses off all their life, take a break and work at Wal-mart to supplement income for example. Their income is recalculated. (at the lower wages and at part time). Their SS benefits are re-averaged. Sucks. Huge mistake for many.
+DIANA SILVA What are you talking about. We have large incomes from retirement, investments, paid for mortgage and do picking as a hobby and have for many, many years. My SS will not be re calculated because I took my years and less 10% to go ahead and retire early with a fantastic retirement and will get SS in 6 years close to 2500.00 per month then. I was the very first person to list items for sale in many ebay categories and the very first ever on ebay to buy from thrift stores with items like clothing etc on ebay. in 1995 I started selling mens jeans, shirt and shoes and did a tremendous business with it for many years. You tubers killed the business with their vids because the market became flooded and prices were drove down while places like goodwill raised their prices. I am more of an antique/collector type of guy like craigslist hunter. The older the better. I do this as a hobby only to keep busy. Started selling on Amazon last year and did a bit over 250k in sales on Amazon alone. You do not need to go to wal mart, you can attend a couple auctions and week, look at craiglist and make more in one day then wal mart workers make in a week easily.
I just wanted to ask what age were you when you started ? I'm 19 and i am currently in this business and i love how you expand your business in so many creative ways. I currently just got a working unit Since my backyard shed can't keep up anymore!
You can tell a big lady lived there because the sizes on the tickets showed like 3x and 24. And of course those were lady's shoes. Sometimes it's different situations that lead to cleaning houses like these. Someone passes away, or develops altzeimers and is taken to a home, it could be all sorts of reason why a home was left like this.
Hi Pete, you're awesome! I'm thinking about this business and have a question - if it's not a secret. How much you charge to clean this house and what the criteria s of pricing are? Thanks
Wow, we don't have those here. Wish we did. I wouldn't mind cleaning it out after getting all that treasure for free lol I would have helped you clean this house out if you shared some treasure with me lol
hi pete great job on the house ,what colour paint you use ??.looks similar to colour of your new truck, love the videos .mr easton peoples belfast northern ireland.
NICE!!! I dumpster dive at retail stores for free things to sell and metal to scrap. make good money from it.....i am losing my job feb 28 and i was talking to my x-wife about starting to do what you do. you do like forclosure cleanouts for the bank? i have a couple relaiter friends that i could get jobs from. Hope you get a lot of good things from this house.. have a great weekend
Dumpster Marcus sorry to hear you losing your job, hauling business is tough wright now and foreclosure clean-outs are no longer profitable banks don't want to spend money so I would stay from them unless you will get paid strait from the real estate agent. Try doing some ads on Craigslist for hauling just regular junk and you will get some business that way. Good luck and thanks for watching my videos.
Craigslist Hunter Thanx for the reply. and That's what i do now my business is called Dumpster Marcus Recycling. i have ads in my paper and have my truck tailgate wrapped with my ad. I take anything metal for Free removal. i get a lot of good calls from that and have contracts with a bunch of local business's. Check out my channel if your bored one day
The thing I would be concerned about in reselling things from a hoarder house is the dirt, bugs, and possibly rodents that would be present. Hoarders usually don'' t clean much because they have no room to clean. Every available surface is piled full of stuff, including the floor. Dust, dirt, food particles, etc. get in everything; and bugs are not far behind. I would be afraid of getting sued for shipping something that was full of cockroach egg cases or flea eggs. Bugs can even get in sealed boxes, so everything needs to be opened and inspected even if it is new. Then you can't sell it as new on eBay because the box has been opened.
kathyt555 This particular place probably had gotten cold enough to freeze out the bugs. But not all "hoarders" leave everything dirty....I've been to some where everything was nicely sorted and stacked, just very dusty!!!
Just found your channel and subbed - great ideas! You must get the really yucky hoarder house clean outs tho as well - or do you only take the ones that yield things you can sell?
Hi, Great video! If approaching a realtor or property manager do do a clean out, I assume they need certain things from me, like that I'm bonded? insured? references? Some kind of contract that I sign, agreeing to have it done by a certain date and to pass their inspection before they pay their balance due? I imagine some of the un-sellable stuff can be donated to a big thrift store, but maybe lots that has to go to dump. I'd hate to get paid $250, then after a few days of work end up paying $150-250 in dump fees. Any comments? Thanks!
+Craigslist Hunter Is your business still running? I can't find anything active about Junk Platoon USA online, no website, no facebook nothing. What gives? I'd love to learn more about what you do here. Thanks!
ya right the workers are taking shit home for sure! lol damn i would be watching them shit they pull up a truck that secretly goes to their house lol. you can believe that! lol
Hey Pete just out of curiosity how long does it take to clean a mess like this and with how many people on the job? Also do you know a big brand store that throws away small cardboard boxes? I can only find big ones and yes I saw your video on how to make boxes smaller.
I'm not insulting anyone, but someone said that there was a lack of heart in taking profit with all this, but in reality even Goodwill stores do the same. They resell everything that once belonged to someone and they are getting pricier by the way.
If people don't want to spend time cleaning a house, then what's wrong with him coming over and doing it instead for a fee? They didn't have to hire him, they could have done it themselves.
Kind of sad, really. That was someone's home and you have to wonder what they were thinking and where they are now. Was that someone's mom or grandma? I'm not bagging on you. It looks like a really cool business deal. But you have to wonder about these people.
@TonydlP650 And roaches, spiders, mice, rats, dead animals, fleas, chemicals, mold, urine, feces and any bio hazards etc.. After paying out costs for sorters, cleaners, demo crew, insurance & licensing costs, advertising, office employees, transportation containers & fuel, disposal fees, clean up chemicals, and time management to clean, list & package all the resale items I'm thinking this venture wouldn't be very lucrative, unless you hit pay dirt on antique items or high end jewelry. Maybe a chest of lost coins. I'd be afraid of attempting that line of work without bio Hazzard suits, and proper training.
I think it looks like "anxiety"!!! I'm exceptionally tired of "stuff". There is ALWAYS TOO MUCH STUFF ! It didn't use to be an issue and I liked to go through it and see what I could find, but these days, it just looks like a nightmare. I wouldn't care what was in it all. I'd just want it to be deleted! There is far too much clutter in this world. It's pointless and I just know I don't want any of it in my space! That, to me, looks like the absolute job from hell. Treasure hunt away everybody, me, I'll just pass!!!
As much as I love getting things for free, I just found this video lacking in emotion for the person who's things you were removing from the property. The person obviously had been in a situation of great distress to get into the hoarding mindset. Also, the fact you are benefitting from the proceeds of the items you remove and re-sell as well as being paid for the clearance and removal, you almost gloat over. I do enjoy watching your videos but a bit of compassion would go a long way in my eyes. Do any of the items that are not resale able to you go to charitable concerns? Regards, Tracy from London,England.
+Tracy Quinn Totally agree with you. It's a shame the way this guy talks about it. So heartless, and only thinking about the money and benefits. This home belonged to someone, and the stuff to. Imagine it was the house of your parents or relatives and people are going true the stuff like that. Horrible. Indeed Tracy, he could have shown some compassion and respect.
I have no idea how or why the original owners got all of that burden of stuff but I am glad that Pete can make good use of it. This video is amazing to me and I know it can help people. I appreciate him sharing what he did.
Shane Smith, I get that same feeling when I go to estate sales. The people/person is gone and what is left of them is their belongings for a price, spread across each room. Makes me think about buyers going through me stuff when I'm gone, looking for treasures. In the end, it's just stuff. The life one lived is what matters...Leaving something behind that can't be bought or sold.
We do the same exact thing and it's worked like a charm for almost 10 years! Paid clean-outs with HUGE bonuses is not a new concept. Just surprised by the number of people that don't do it.
I love this idea. Thank you for being so forthcoming about how you make money. I am up and coming in Oregon. You have been an giant help.
LOL!! Paid money to MAKE MONEY OMG HUSTLER MODE! You are on the grind brother wowsers
That Hoarder house seems relatively OK, but I've watched "Hoarders" and a lot of the time it's full of dead mice, dead cats, poop, etc. Are you able to pick and choose to only do the ones that aren't a biohazard?

my one relative used to do this. he didn't even utilize the internet. all word of mouth and still made tons of money.

You got lucky there. I've cleaned two Hoarder places for Probate cases, talk about the circles of hell!
