As a minority, I rather you ask "stupid questions" about my culture, instead of assuming I would be offended and stop the communication before it even begins.
As a white person from a small midwestern town with few minorities, I am not afraid of asking stupid questions to a minority, but rather, I am concerned of triggering the overly-woke outrage-mob which can't tell the difference between ignorance and intentional racist hatred. Well, ok, I'm not THAT concerned, but I'd rather not get my accounts lit up over that kind of thing. So...the conversations are stifled... and it's not because of minorities, but because of self-righteous people who are creating problems oddly similar to the ones they are trying to fix.
Thank you. I've gotten in trouble several times asking what were apparently stupid questions to people of colour. With nothing more than the intent to start a friendly conversation with a black woman who had a clear African accent, I asked her "so you're from Africa?". She got offended and said "Africa isn't a country, its a continent". Though I didn't say it, I was like "yeah sure, but there are like 50 countries in Africa. Do you expect me to know which one of those you are from?" I think all this political correctness and "sensitivity" rubbish is really just about causing division. At least that is what it is doing regardless of its stated intent.
I used to work with cultural exchange programs abroad, and still occasionally do cultural presentations in America. Those programs are where people can feel safe asking questions. I've heard plenty of "stupid questions" about America too, like "are all Americans fat?" (While me and my American co-worker standing there were stick skinny😅) Or "Why dress up on Halloween, it's so degrading." (from a teacher) They are not trying to be mean, but genuinely curious.
To be fair, who is responsible for giving those people the trophies? Last time I checked, it was the Boomer/Gen X parents going out and buying the trophies to give to their kids.
I thumbed up your comment for its reminder that “we are just normal people with normal voices” but I argue that we do NOT need more voices like that of Ricky Gervais, just more normal people responding to nonsense in normal voices.
They would never admit that. He threw them their groupthink bone when he said that "Republicans" are appropriating the term and using it when one of their own gets their "just comeuppance." The only reason the Right is talking about cancel culture is because it's almost exclusively the Left who is partaking in censorship and cancel culture. I guess that's what happens when an ideological group has almost complete control of the political and cultural institutions. It happened with Christians, and now it's happening with the religion of woke.
When people tell the truth & make sense it’s easy to see the truth. I’m not a democrat but I like hearing what a fair man has to say about our culture. Im a fan now!
If you watched him regularly, you would know that he always speaks his mind. He's a Libertarian, not a far left leftie. He had a show called "Politically Incorrect". Ironically, that show was cancelled because he spoke the truth.
“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” -1984
Gina Carano should've quoted this instead of the Hitler thing. It makes you stop and think about the words, without the "I can't believe they said that!" reflex.
The thing that bothers me is when people get offended for others, even if there was no offense for the people being “targeted”, or the people being talked about didn’t take offense by whatever was said or done. I think these situations make problems that shouldn’t exist and distract us from the real problems at hand, be it social, economical, environmental, etc.
It's due to the 'divide and conquer' strategy that's been played out, controlled by the progressive corporate liberals who have taken over almost every facet of our lives- Public Schools, Health Care, Food Administration, Television Media and Social Platforms, Industrial Military Complex, etc. etc. There's a reason they don't call it 'scatter and conquer', as they can't build a billion person army that way. They have to divide one group to their side, and then group their enemies together as well, so that their brainwashed robot soldiers can easily know exactly who to start shooting down. On one side, all the "nutjobs" believe in some magical sky daddy figure which the superstitious fools have been calling God, who are obviously very sick/dangerous/brainwashed people that they'd allow a fairytale to govern their lives- any kindergartener can understand that, and many are coming to that understanding daily, as that is what they are being taught from day one in the Public Schools. On the other side, the "educators", and the "scientists", etc. know a great deal about everything, from physics, to astronomy, to math and medicine, and their word should always be final over the superstitious fools who obviously have a mental disease in order for them to believe in the archaic nonsense that they do. Tomorrow there will be more kids than yesterday, all going home from their field trips to gay bars, or watching the cartoon videos at schools titled something like, " How to Spot a Covid Denier", perhaps they will even be watching kiddie p0rn on netflix from their smart devices, and they'll go home and begin looking suspiciously at their parents who might not agree with what all the doctors, teachers, and media organizations are saying is best for children. Then will come the rebellion stage necessary to break them away, which they will also promote through Hollywood movies, as well as shows on, Disney, Mtv, Nickelodeon etc. For some 12 years or longer for many, they'll keep forging the youngsters into being their allies, encouraging them to defend the rest of the hive, and yes, even be offended when just one of theirs is made fun of or provoked. By the time they're of voting age, the one's who are motivated to vote the most will almost certainly vote for the liberal democrats, because their "rock stars" like Barrack Obama told them they should all be voting "democrat all the way down the ticket". And this is precisely why Nancy Pelosi and others have been pushing to lower the voting age to 16, because they know good and well that should dramatically increase the democrat voters who they can just put on a school bus and haul straight down to the polls- all on the tax payers' dollars! Unfortunately, even as these kids graduate and move on to "adulthood", all too many will succumb to the pleasant warmth in which the liberal hive provides. The brainwashing will be complete, and they will never have the chance to molt and grow their conservative feathers.🤧 But I'm sure you were probably already aware of much of this. And I agree, the democrat party sucks!

He's been a cheerleader of cancel culture all along. But now that it's coming for his friends, he's freaking out. Sorry, but I hope the whole cancel mob tears each other to shreds, Maher included.
@@Mr.Ekshin exactly! he's been denying it, or claiming, as he did in his opener, that it's "just desserts for conservatives" but uh oh, as we predicted, the left eat their own and he's finally realising the truth of that.

I think companies have found a loophole through "fired for cause" requirements in states. If you can't find a real reason to fire someone for cause and deny them severance, find a blurry photo of them and claim they're doing something racist in it. I don't think average people are actually protesting these targets on moral grounds. Someone wants to fire someone, so they craft a reality-TV-style story around them, and people get into it like they're judging TV show characters rather than real life people.

i agree, but it's pretty clearly been an issue for a good 5 or so years. It's only now that people are starting to notice. Before, people just took cancel culture as pearl-clutching moments to moral grandstand to their peers. "Guilty until proven innocent" has been a pretty prevalent mind-set lately.
Have fun trying to convince a leftist that there is such a thing as a slippery slope. With the exception of protecting the environment, they generally are really horrible at anticipating the potentiality of negative future consequences. They are emotionally driven and hence, make knee-jerk decisions which are gratifying in the short-term, but ultimately create dysfunction and the exact opposite of what they intended.
Bill Maher is a true classical liberal who speaks his mind about the current American political landscape; Bill maybe just maybe you might just be able to save America. Keep it up.
The problem is that he has a hate-boner for Republicans that quite frankly I don't think it's justifiable nowadays. The progressive democrats are a lot worse in almost every aspect than a traditional republican (veterans and christians, let's say). Like the woman from the mandalorian, he didn't need to shit on her or on the show. First, because the show is good, and I think that SW is a big pile of garbage. Second, because she was 100% right on her commentary. When your neighbors become the agents of the police state that's when you have a totalitarian state
This comment, and these threads are a classic example of how blind so many liberals continue to be. Bill has done so much damage to the American people, by brainwashing them with his liberal views, hating, finger pointing, and basically relying on ridicule to dismantle anyone's logical arguments that he can't win, because he's pigeonholed himself to adhere to his audience. Yet, when he subtly changes his tune over time, his audience is able to just go right along without batting an eye. One day, he will break the news to them that he and they have actually become conservatives, and they will laugh hysterically, because their is so much irony in the truth. Dude's a pro
As someone that leans conservative, it pains me greatly to cheer Bill's eloquent tirades. This country would be in a much better place if we started taking his advice.
I think we all need to move a lot more center. There’s nothing wrong with agreeing on certain topics with a person you largely disagree with. You don’t always have to stay with your side on everything.
This times 50. That's how paranoid people have become. They think someone in the audience might out them for laughing a bit too hard at the wrong joke. He said 62% of Americans have opinions they're afraid to share. Bullshit. It's closer to 80, maybe 90% or more. And when you see what happens to dissenters, it makes thought suppression all the more likely. The waters getting awfully hot around the 🐸..

So you’re not concerned about cops shooting unarmed people in the back? You’re not concerned about a president that has lied over 30,000 times since he took office back in 2016? You’re not concerned about a party that is only interested in suppressing the vote, rather than making voting easier for more people to have the opportunity to exercise what most of us believe is a constitutionally protected right? So if you decide you want to use racial epithets & the person you direct your comments to decides to punch you in the face, knocking you to the ground, should you have the right to sue that person? George Zimmerman shot & killed an unarmed teenager because he decided to play cop & he he was allowed to walk free! So what crime did Treyvon Martin commit? So 12 year old Tamir Rice, was shot dead by police, what crime did he commit to deserved to be executed in such a brutal& violent way & Breonna Taylor an EMT worker was sleeping in her bed & she was shot dead by police, serving a no knock warrant, at the wrong property & at the wrong location! So how do you get justice in that situation? The list goes on & on of the injustice in this country, particularly against Black people & people of color! The history of United States is replete with the atrocities perpetrated against so-called minority groups! So I disagree that people wanna be controlled, as some has suggested in this form, people want justice, they want accountability, reparations for past transgressions & they do not want to be controlled & cancel culture is nonsense, because you can’t cancel what has happened, that’s like saying you can cancel history, both concepts are ridiculous! Waaaaaaaa!” Most opponents of cancel culture (usually butthurt, right-wing straight white males) are nothing but irredeemable bigots rooting for the days where they could rape or murder folks in marginalized groups for blinking wrong. Right-leaning folks want so badly to be victims and victimizers all at once, no wonder they have to resort to everything from voter suppression (canceling) to lynching (canceling) to genocide (big canceling) to stay in power. The objective reality is that it is the cancel culture mentioned above that has “gone too far,” not the scary (mostly for irredeemably evil right-wingers) cancel culture that puts misogynists, anti-Semites, white nationalists and other shitty excuses for humans in their places. You're making too much sense Bill, that's a crime these days.
Experienced that myself, it was easier to deal with Superman than this nonsense.
The brainwashing will be complete, and they will never have the chance to molt and grow their conservative feathers.🤧

Bill Maher’s George Carlin influence came out on this one...
The world need Carlin badly right now. But I'm glad he doesn't have to live through this.
Not really...Carlin would say something like "Fuck You ya little pussies. Buck up or hide in your closet."
Carlin would’ve been slightly meaner but I completely get your point, Maher is an obvious disciple.
Carlin would be hated nowadays. He always unapologetically spoke the truth.

We've been down this road before. Read Margaret Chase Smith's Declaration of Conscience, considered one of the greatest speeches ever given on the US Senate floor. Margaret Chase Smith was a Republican Senator from Maine. In it she states the basic principles of "Americanism" are:
The right to criticize;
The right to hold unpopular beliefs;
The right to protest;
The right of independent thought.
It is good to remember Margaret Chase Smith, whose courage and integrity and willingness to stand up to toxic figures in her own party still shine almost seventy years later.
Sounds very interesting. I will definitely check that out.
@Pained Truth truer words have never been said lol
If you know anything about society then you know that people aren't evolved enough to live in a society that works that way. People want to be controlled. People want America to be like China. Total government control. You can't educate idiots. The best you can hope for is that the world's most brilliant minds (who came up with rights like you mentioned) are able to escape this planet and live somewhere safe from the rest of the idiots, so that they can advance their own civilization and live on in peace.
Then it’s ironic being able to point out times Republicans violated those rights.

That was enough to cancel him too. Ridiculous. Never forget that all throughout history, the silent majority has always been irrelevant. So, while most of us agree this is insane, it’s the minority radical and crazy left that are pushing this. They already control every institution in America, from academia, to government to mainstream media to big corporations like Disney and Big Tech. It’s what happens when people no longer have a life. Their life is the internet. Like I said, they have NO REAL LIFE.

So the idea of cancel culture is a political diversionary tactic, used by people to change the subject & blame the victims! So how do you justify what happened on January 6th? Was that cancel culture too?

That moment you realize calling everyone who disagrees with you a Nazi, while YOU are actually being the Nazi.
Oh they know they are projecting. The shock comes to them when OTHER people realize what they are, despite them deflecting onto someone else.
Or calls someone a racist while you are being the racist and sexist when you are being a sexists.
The leftist mobs on the streets today are the modern Brownshirts.
So sick of white supremacists, sexists and other bigots pulling out the "just because we disagree with you" card.
There are certain things about which disagreement is objectively evil.
I promise you that if a brown person "disagreed" with a white person's argument that a white child shouldn't be deported back to a European country just because his or her parents are here against the law, the right would explode with outrage and order that person fired immediately.
Cries of "cancel culture" come mainly from whiny privileged people trying to hold on to status they didn't earn and don't fucking deserve. The real problem is that many White folks, men, cis-hets
, (whoever feels they’re the dominant group) have this disgusting habit of insisting on making everything about how they’re being oppressed. Black person says don’t call me the n-word: “censorship!” “You’re violating my right to freedom of expression!” Woman complains about sexism or harassment: “Can’t even compliment these cunts nowadays without getting called a rapist!” Someone calls for cultural sensitivity: “You’re always claiming you believe in tolerance but when I say all blacks are lazy thugs, all immigrants from Spanish-speaking countries are rapists and all Muslims are from ISIS you try to silence me! Waaaaaaaa!”
Most opponents of cancel culture (usually butthurt, right-wing straight white males) are nothing but irredeemable bigots rooting for the days where they could rape or murder folks in marginalized groups for blinking wrong.
No wonder the right is resorting to insurrection when they lose elections.
They’re nothing but a bunch of status anxious hypocrites, and the troglodytes they elect are thriving on their abject stupidity and objective immorality.
So, as long as everybody's politically correct, we can bomb Syria and go along with neo-cons?We can have companies like Coca Cola whose brown sugar water has probably killed more Blacks than the Klan ever did require critical race theory to their White employees? Is a corporate run Military Industrial Complex justified just as long as it's Woke? I really think Animal Farm should be read and/or re-read by some folks on the Left.
