Yeh its a solid card. We couldn't have known that Amd would pull off the rare feat of pricing their upcoming card correctly. Now at just $500 the 7800xt is the easy choice going forward this Generation.
I have been pretty happy with my 6750xt. I am thinking of getting the 6950xt on my lan/guest pc I want to build.

Best YT channel for in depth GPU reviews by far!
I have been a subscriber since this channel had around 30k subs. It is great seeing you close to 150k subs now because you definitely deserve it, Daniel!
But you can't beat the voice of Gamer Meld - I go there just for the voice haven't a clue what he's really talking about.
Hey man I’ve made a handful of RUclips comments ever, but I want to say your content and analysis are amazing. I’m a high school teacher myself (chemistry) and I have no idea how you are able to juggle this with that. The algo fed me your channel when it was just getting started wow has it been 2 years already!? It is great to see how you’ve grown. It is well deserved mad props! I upgraded from a 3070 to a 7800 XT yesterday to get a boost for Starfield. The 8gb VRAM was rough going in some games. Your recent videos were more helpful than HW unboxed and GN honestly in making this decision. I cross reference benchmarks among all the trustworthy sources but your analysis is the best.
Very well said! As much as i watch HWU and GN, here on this channel the detailed analysis is pure gold.
Watched all major outlet reviews, this and Hardware Unboxed are best ones, with this one having an edge as it's more aligned with most modern games and stuff. Great work, this'll become main go-to channel in very short time.
The 4070 at 499$ would be such a good card, especially when looking for low power consumption. Would've upgraded from my 3070 if ngreedia hadn't made the price increase

Right? Even at $550 the power draw difference would easily make up the cost difference quickly. I'm surprised people aren't factoring it into their purchase more.

Excellent content as always. A bit of a suggestion: when you make these side-by-side videos, you should do a summary slide at the end that shows the average difference to go from card-to-card. Like maybe just an average percentage change. You're already collecting all of that information in your relative performance blocks, so it might be pretty easy to just show it at the end in maybe a like a bar graph or something.
This is the first time I've watched one of your reviews and I just want to say that I really like that you've tested with upscalers and different settings. It's a little bit frustrating when watching other reviewers test games because they only test with ultra settings and without upscalers. I know it's to push the GPUs to their limit but it's not very helpful for a real-world scenario. The same RUclipsrs will tell you not to play using ultra settings and then will not show me how well the GPU will run using lower settings. Also, I always use upscalers as long as there's no massive hit to quality so being able to see the performance while using upscalers is very helpful. This is not me knocking other reviewers, I still think that their information is very accurate and helpful its just that I think these more varied reviews are more helpful for a real world scenario.
7800xt might be interesting. Especially if there's still any more gains to be had in the form of drivers. I've noticed that some of my AMD cards had a few drivers where general performance increased quite a bit throughout the years.
yeah must be nice to buy the latest gpu the day they release just to play starfield 3 years later
@@busetgadapet If you aren't FPS-chasing, you can absolutely play Starfield now even at 40+ FPS. The game's good, but kinda feels empty yet. Not talking about performance yet, but I'd definitely advise people to wait for further updates, or for better mods to have a better game experience.

One reason Daniel's videos about the 7800xt are even more relevant and reliable than the usually great Gamer's Nexus (who were the outlier on the 7800xt), is that he tests in the latest and most demanding games. Unreal Engine 5 is probably the most important possible test since the majority of games will be based on it, and super demanding games like Immortals of Aveum and Remnant 2, despite neither being particularly big hits, are still super relevant because they show off a good guideline to how these cards will be performing with games going forward. Right off the bat we can see with these two UE5 games that the 7800xt is brutally slaughtering the 4070, almost to a criminal extent. This video helps cement why 7800xt is the new undisputed King of the Generation in terms of Performance and Value.
fsr looks bad
@@bigturkey1 ? what about FSR here?
@horodoomwolf Nvidia can dlss it self to being a 4k card amd will always just be a 1440p card until fsr looks better.
HUB showed really poor performance in fortnite (which is UE5) compared to both the 6800 xt and the 4070
@@bigturkey1 Yo big ngreedia fanboy, Nvidia needs DLSS just to match AMD's raw performance, it is nothing to be proud of. AMD isn't crippling its GPUs with small bus widths like Nvidia is. If they need to rely less on upscaling, it is an advantage. You have probably never compared them. I have DLSS, and I have seen FSR, the difference is nowhere near as big as you exaggerate. Sure FSR quality looks like DLSS performance in some cases, but on stuff like 4060Ti 16gb even performance DLSS can't match 7800XT.
You're blind enough not to see that nvidia is using DLSS=good narrative to not increase raw performance.
Great video, thank you! It would have been more awesome to get the 4k comparison!
Great stuff- exactly the video I was looking for :D
I'd like to say 12GB VRAM vs 16GB VRAM is also something to consider.
In my opinion, textures generate the bulk of graphics quality. Having more VRAM allows you to use higher quality textures, providing the game is VRAM heavy on the texture side. Which is more often the case nowadays.
That's the main reason for me to always choose for the 7800XT over the 4070, if the 4070 had 16GB (which I recently learned is not possible for the 4070 series, not even with a refresh). I would maybe choose for the 4070 if the price would be a bit cheaper.
12GB is fine.
@@icy1007 for older games yes, and for a hand full of newer games as well. But more and more games have proven to need more than 12gb.
@@JustSomeDude31 no game available today needs more than 12GB.
@@icy1007 Ratchet and Clank already uses more than 12GB. They'll be texture mods for Starfield that will exceed 12GB. There are more examples.
The only sensible reason I can think of choosing the 4070 over 7800XT is for the nVidia's CUDA support which works much better for stable diffusion and other productivity workloads.
Real time ray tracing is still in its infancy - maybe give it another 2 GPU generations before it becomes relevant. Frame generation increases latency which is just stupid in 95% of cases.
Well now even in RT 7800XT is good enough vs 4070. I don't see why anyone would spend 100$ to get less performance and less VRAM, AMD pulled a winner here.
I just returned my 7800XT. The 7000 series drivers are awful currently.

Brilliant video, once again. Thanks for the insight as I was currently considering the 7800XT vs the 6950XT (on offer)
I picked up a new reference 6950xt a couple months ago for $620 on Amazon. Was going to wait and see about the 7800xt but had an EK GPU waterblock that fit the 6800-6950xt reference models so went that route to keep my system fully water cooled. I get a stable 2749Mhz OC while slightly undervolting. I also OC'd the memory with faster timing. Super low temps liquid cooled and still a little headroom. Its a fantastic GPU. I only have a 5600x CPU but they seem to pair very well. Never see below 60fps at 4k usually much higher on almost every game.

Excellent breakdown at the end.
I can suggest more talking points if you like to do this sruff even more comprehensive, like the memory architecture in relation to future expectations of holding up in performance (e.g. a higher bit bus combined with compute power suggests a design for a higher resolution which usually translates to holding up better in future), the re-sale value (usually nvidia holds more value in time on the used market), software stack including streaming facilities or, if you are inclined to, some tuning performance and QOL on this front would be amazing, altought i know this takes more time and passion that you might not be atracted to.
What I do appreciate of your videos is you talk about different usecases, especially important when it comes to pretty clear results like this (7800 XT is slugging the 4070 in rasterization) that *should* still be considered. Its rare that anything is high and dry "this is better in all situations" and that nuance is important.
That said, damn, do I wish I waited from buying my 4060 ti 16GB and grabbed the 7800 XT 😂
Cool video, would be interesting to see 4K as well IMO. Might be a solid win for AMD.
180W compared to 280 and 300+ is still a quite an impressive feat from Nvidia, DLSS looks better, RT is still better on the 4070.
Would be nice to see some price drop on the 4070 but I don't really expect it.
Remember that this is an ABI model of the 7800xt that is pulling more power. Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed found that the power consumption difference between the 7800xt and 4070 was only about ~45-50w in the tests they did (furmark, numerous games). No doubt the 4070 is the more power efficient card, but its not by the margins that some are lead to believe.
Yeah 45W power savings but also worse performance and less VRAM while having to pay 100$ more.
RT is not better if you look at fps per dollar. 7800xt brings more Ray tracing fps for every dollar you spend.
@@mmadevgame If you check UE5 + Lumen you're right and it is probably an important metric just like Daniel said. But if you check CP or Ratchet & Clank your argument is invalidated.
This is why it would have been useful to see the 4K comparisons because the bus width difference could potentially negate any kind of advantage the 4070 has over the 7800 on higher resolutions. I know it's probably too much for both cards on newer titles, but still it's relevant information for anyone who plays older games.
Interesting!@@mmadevgame
My only problem with these new GPU's is that they are absolutely massive.

Seriously, when I'm buying a GPU to play games with, the LAST THING I think about is "but it's too big!". I care about frames per second, and price.
Not power consumption, I don't need to save £10 a year on my electric bill more importantly than I need fps and value for money. I don't spend 10 huors a day editing videos. And I don't care about AI.

It's obviously speculative, but it seems like ray tracing is getting more and more sidelined instead of being more and more widely adopted. Which to be honest kind of makes sense, since Nvidia launched it how many years ago already, and it's still not properly usable, delivering hard to notice differences at a great performance cost.

The math teacher in you shows. Good info. An English teacher would have to work with you to better organize that last eight minute closeout trying to explain some of the feature benefits of the Nvidia GPU. It was all over the place. I think you should let the stats show what they show and then mention briefly at the end that although it isn't reflected in the data, DLSS is generally considered to be better than FSR. Then let the reader decide if that is worth the price and performance difference.
Good Video, thank you!
I find your review very detailed and informative, as always. Let me point out, however, that, although many reviewers, not just you, say 7800 XT costs $100 less than 4070, it seems to be the case only in the U.S. and perhaps Canada. I checked prices of these two at price comparison sites in the U.K., EU, Australia, and Japan. The price differences between 4070 and 7800 XT are as follows in those different regions: $75 in the U.K. and the Netherland, $50 in Austria, France and Germany ($50 in the EU as a whole), $2.5 in Ausralia, and -$5.5, which means 4070 is less expensive, in Japan.
DLSS does such a good job at upscaling from low resolution images compared to FSR 2. They are worlds apart, at 4k I'd say 50% DLSS looks as good if not better than 80% FSR even when frame generation is enabled. Hopefully FSR 3 will close that gap because there's no competition in that area. Nvidia keeps leveraging DLSS and sell the inferior products for higher price. However If FSR 3 does as good as an upscaling job as DLSS at lower resolution scales, it doesn't even have to generate frames. Most AMD cards are already powerful enough to provide the same FPS with frame generation disabled at the same price tier. If they'll also look good, Nvidia will have to do major discounts. That'd be really good.

Thanks for all the videos Daniel. I'd be interested to see a different take on this analysis - one not purely based on highest FPS. For me, I'm looking for a card that can render well enough at 1440p to upscale to 4K 60FPS while producing the best visuals. In this context, I'm wondering whether the DLSS enabled RTX 4070 with its superior RT is the better card - particularly since I can get one for the same money as a 7800xt.
I had bought a 4070ti for 800 i later found the red devil 6950 used on Amazon for 450 it arrived pretty much new and I'm so happy with my purchase I'll be keeping this till the next generation
starfield is a rlly strange game because AMD gpus tend to be much faster then their Nvida equivalents but also it seems to favour intel CPUs in big cities even a i5 13600K gets more fps than a 7800X3D which is rlly strange.
Starfield using E cores too and that's bad for most games but in that game they are using E cores in smart way that's why intel with amd GPU is good way to go, I moved from 5600x to 5800X3D did not make any diff when I play at low options at 1440p in games because of my rtx 3070, now I have my eyes for rx 6950xt goes to day for 7800SEK vs rx 7800xt 7100SEK, price diff is just about 70€, there will be event tomorrow and price on rx 6950xt will be 8k SEK and 7800xt may drop in price or other GPUs. Taking risk to pay 20€ more for 6950xt just to see price of GPU event

Problem with the 4070 is it loses big where it matters most UE5. And wins big att stuff that is irrelevant. Heavy raytracing, which it is too weak to handle anyway.
It could be $500 and people should still get a 7800XT instead.
If you plan to keep the card for a few years and play at 1080p (which is my case) I would go with the 4070, mostly because I wouldn't use FSR at 1080p and DLSS looks good at 1080p and Frame generation sounds interesting specially at 1080p where you have more than 60fps
More heat.

Worse power consumption at idle.
Worse power consumption with multiple monitors.

for cards like these, testing at 1080p is a bit redundant, since at 1440p with upscaling at quality we are already rendering at 960p.
Also with 1080p with cards like these using upscaling would make the image look really bad, and even when done due to vram limitation, at this resolution dropping texture quality to high or medium would still yield a better looking image than using upscaling at 1080p
I was on the fence but it was eating away at my brain so I just bought the 7800xt for £490 which came with starfield. In the UK the extra power consumption over the 4070 is a bigger deal due to higher electricty prices and over a period of 4 years it adds up but obviosuly that can change as well as the time I play games so I didnt think it was a good factor to decide on.
This is something i wish more people talked about.

This moment, when AMD get's accused to block Nvidia Tech
and Nvidia is too lazy to adjust their drivers for the game.
Nvidia is busy for AI BS now. I hope their bubble bursts soon.
Both companies have had their respective shenanigans on new tech. This is usually patched, so don't read too much into so-called 'blocking'.
Crysis and Hawx: nVidia title, WAY overblown sub-pixel tessellation, under-map water with tessellation not culled, tanked AMD cards
Witcher 3 and Final Fantasy XV: nVidia titles, HairWorks still enabled on culled objects, improper culling, Hairworks on by default tanked AMD cards.
Tomb Raider 2013: AMD title, TresFX hair didn't even RUN on nVidia til it was patched in
Fallout 4: nVidia title, vSync didn't even WORK on AMD for months after release.
Cyberpunk: nVidia title, WAY overblown RT, need s 3090+ for decent performance
To be honest, AMD is not any better here either. Their CPUs perform pretty poorly in Starfiled. Not a good result for a brand, which "worked closely with the developers to make sure their products perfrom as expected". My 5600 is way slower than 12400, although in many other games they are usually comparable.
P. S. BTW, ironically, modded DLSS in Starfield looks really good, much better than "natively implemented" FSR.

That was very helpful. My next build has Starfield as the #1 in mind haha. Thanks for this. 7800xt seems like the no brainer
Great video answered alot of the question I have about the 7800 xt looking to buy a new rig this fall and the main problem atm and pretty much always is which graphic card to choose.
Well I bought a 6950 XT (admittedly it was a hard choice between the 4070, 7800 xt and 3080 ti) but since I play VR as well it and I wanted some futureproofing in terms of VRAM (Texture quality, bad optimization habits and so on) I went with the 6950 XT since I got it for a good price. Btw a good model 6950 XT (undervoltable) costs here in austria/germany around 800€. I got my MSI Gaming Trio for 650€ (3 months used, so still with guarantee) and that would translate to around 580$ without VATs. My Reasoning:
1. The better cards for VR are obviously Nvidia's cards, but since the 3080 ti and the 4070 come "only" with 12 GB of VRAM it after all wouldn't have been a really good choice for me (and I want to underline the "me" here, since not everyone will have the need for more than 12 GB). The 7800 XT on the other hand was a really tough choice to pass. But since everyone knows that AMD is slow with their drivers (especially for VR), I didn't want to wait until next year (or maybe never since they'll probably concentrate more on flat screen rather than PCVR) until they release capable drivers. So the 6000 series - and my previous one is the 6700 XT - already have some pretty good drivers with which I almost never had crashes, although the encoding is not the best. But until AV1 encoding will be the standard probably in 2025, I'm not keen on waiting for that and what advantages that means for VR (quest 3 f.e.).
2. When it comes to RT and DLSS support.. well I'm more of a Starfield, Resident Evil and VR gamer (and I don't play a lot tbh). So there's that. Even with a bit of RT (fe only Reflections and lighting in CP77) the 6950XT is very capable. Since I only game with controllers (coming from a PS4) I don't need very high FPS.
3. Really Nvidia? A 4060 TI vs 16 GB VRAM, but a 4070 TI with 12 GB? You know what I mean.. this generation and the leap from the 6000 to 7000 and 3000 to 4000 series is pretty much a joke.
I'm surprised you chose the 6950xt as a German - considering that we have the highest electricity kWh price in the entire world (yes, really) and the 7800xt nearly has the same performance with less kwh usage.
On the one hand I understand your reasoning - basically you sacrificed the long term for the short term. Which is a reasonable thing to do if you have the financial means to upgrade again as soon as you need it - but you will also have longer term driver support on the 7800xt and given that the 7900 and 7600 have already been out for quite a while I don't think they will take that long to update drivers as the 7800xt is their last release this gen so they shouldn't have any other priorities at the moment.
@@Humanaut. Well I have considered that as well. But my energy contract in vienna is about 12,6c per kwh. Since it's subsidized over here. And yeah considering the drivers.. if you see the past and how AMD went with VR drivers and that they are probably more conected to xbox (who dont see a near future in VR) than ever.. you can pretty easily come to the conclusion that this is a long way off. And the 6950 xt is not so old. (May 2022) These cards are definetely going to be to be supported at least until end of 2025 or longer. If I would buy a new PC, then I would definetely tend to AM5 or Intel13. But AM4 is still capable and since I run it with a 5800x3d its not so memory dependent. Next stage would be 7800x3d which is "just" about 12-14% better with ddr5 6000 CL36 fe. So I didnt see a need switching to the mew platform.
@@niko220491 okay yes that makes a lot of sense.
If you already have good am4 components AND cheap electricity then your choice definitely sounds like a smart move.
Over here in Germany I pay 33 cents per kWh.
I'm still curious to see how the whole VR driver thing will play out.
I am also interested in VR but everytime I dive into the topic a little more I come to the conclusion that it's better to wait 1-2 more years until the tech matures a bit more for it.
Since it's still considered niche I can somewhat understand less resources being dedicated to it but I would love to see VR take off in the not too distant future.
My general sense is that AMD has been improving more and more on the driver/software sider over the past ~5 years.
I actually did a "deep dive" once and if you consider drivers AMD vs Nvidia then it's pretty much a tie (2-3% lead for AMD actually) but that was merely considering ALL high impact driver issues and duration until fix.
So it wasn't VR specific.
You probably know more about the VR side of things.
Maybe I'll get to try star citizen in VR someday.
The future is looking good for AMD. Their latest mid-range reportedly doing good numbers in sales.
Frame gen eats up lots of VRAM just like ray tracing. There really is no point in preferring mid-range 3000 and 4000 cards over 6000 and even 7000. Nvidia fumbled on both VRAM and FG being exclusive.
3080 can dlss itself to being a 4k card. amds will only be a 1440p card until fsr looks better. plus nvidia cards are valued more to professional use and have higher resale value. Yes, you can turn on upscaling with either of those GPUs and some games unfortunately rely on that because of lacking optimization. But I personally would more likely ditch those games until they get patched.
Upscaling is a feature to close the gap between generational uplift in performance. So you shouldn't need that currently at all, especially when you buy a 7800xt or above. The 4070 should at max cost $500...
DLSS is virtually indistinguishable in terms of image quality unless you're side-by-side comparing screenshots and looking for it specifically, which you aren't doing while you're actually playing games. It's just more performance for a marginal decrease in quality you're not going to be able to notice in a practical context anyway. Saying that doesn't count is like saying rasterization doesn't count. That's also a hardware feature that improves performance. You're creating an arbitrary metric because you don't like Nvidia, which is fine, but at least be honest about it.
@@itsaUSBline So why would you skew the comparison then by disabling FSR? Nobody cares about the difference in image quality between FSR and DLSS while playing a game anyway if you already argument like this. Not even to mention that DLSS won't be supported in every game either.

A minor difference in artifacts while upscaling..? Ah yeah, you are right... that's probably it - don't kid yourself. CUDA support? You can just use ROCm on RDNA gpus to run CUDA applications. Frame generation? FSR3 is around the corner...
Let's assume Nvidia would actually offer value to gamers here which I don't see honestly. It would still make zero sense to pay $100 on top while trading whatever value you get vs. plain performance. So at least pricing should be even.
But please try to explain why you want people to pay $100 for hot air...
You guys should a new category. Initial price of GPU's vs long term price. As in, how much the wattage will add to your electricity/power bill for x number of years. With a single monitor, with dual monitors, with 3 monitors.

I play on a 4K TV, so often the options for me are "play on 1080p, 1440p or 4k".
With a RTX2080 in BG3 and other titles, playing on 1080p natively (or with DLAA) or 4k with DLSS performance mode runs about the same, but 4k with DLSS can look better in some parts, and either option looks better than 1440p natively or even with DLAA.
In BG3 4k + DLSS performance gives me nice environments, UI and character closeups in exchange for slightly flatter looking distant NPCs when you are zoomed out (esp when zooming out far using NativeCamera mod) - there is just not enough information to make those small avatars look good. 1080p + DLAA gives me better and more 3d looking avatars in less detailed environs and UI. 1440p native gives me overall a more washed out image and the blurriest UI, no matter if DLAA or not due to the non integer scaling nature of the resolution to the display - maybe enabling driver level sharpening could alleviate this issue a bit, but from my experience driver level image sharpening often leads to graphical issues like jittering and texture flickering in games.
Do you have a 7900 xt still? I'm currently choosing my upgrade from a 5600 xt (because I got a nice new UltraW 144hz 1440p monitor and discovered games from the last 5y are a struggle), and considering the bump in every single spec except clock compared to the 7800xt, and the trend of games getting harder to run before they get easier, is it worth the long term ~30% performance bump for the 50% price

Rx7000 series will just get better in time , I can see another 20% performance with optimization in future drivers .
I will say, both cards make the much cheaper 69xx XT look so good. Better perform for much cheaper. 7800xt is 650euros if not more, 69xx xt used can be had for 500 or less and is faster. I've even seen 6900xts go for 450 euros. For now Hyper-Rx is just a 1 stop button to turn on all the features at once. The reason it doesn't work for Rdna 2 (Yet) is that it incorparates the new Anti-Lag + which is exclusive to Rdna 3. What you are probably hoping to see is the new feature from Hyper-Rx called "Fluid Frames" which is basically gonna be Driver Level "Frame Generation" for all Dx 11 and Dx 12 games. That is an exclusive AMD feature, and only for Rdna 3, but it won't come out till early Q1 2024. So we will have to wait a few months to see how that plays out.
@@slickrounder6045yeah that hyper RX feature is tempting but I'd like to see more test to see whether it's a dud or win from AMD
@@HuntaKiller91 Ofcourse we will have to wait a few months till Fluid Frames is available. Its different than regular Fsr 3 Frame Generation which we will be getting in a few days/this month, since it doesn't require a game to be programmed for the Frame Generation, it can just do it at the driver level. I doubt it will be as good as regular Frame Generation from FSR 3/DLSS 3, but its a bonus feature that might be worthwhile on some Dx11 or Dx12 games that don't have native Frame Generation support (i.e the overwhelming majority of them). For now the biggest thing is to see how FSR 3 Frame Generation does, we will have reviews of that shortly, but reports from Digital Foundry (big Hardware tech reviewer in Germany) implied that it seems to be on par with DLSS 3 Frame Generation.
Really annoyed that the default now is upscaling. If I wanted a 1080p experience, I would have just bought a 1080p monitor. I have a 1440p UW for a reason, I like the higher resolution. FSR looks like a blur filter and has annoying artifacts and DLSS has annoying artifacts as well. Both are a pass for me. Now if they can get frame generation working well with little visual issues, I could see that being very valuable for certain games.
I just bought a 7800 XT on launch day, really excited to play Starfield 😁
at where I live, currently, the price difference between the cheapest AIB 7800 XT and 6950 XT is around $80 USD, still undecided after so many reviews, but are leaning towards 7800 XT simply because it is newer tech, therefore should have better support in the coming years over the 6950 XT.
Thanks for this.
Great video and analysis as usual. The question is: Is RT a thing because NVIDA said so? Modern games still look amazing in 4k /1440p without it.
FYI - I ordered a 7800 xt based mostly on your videos - thanks!
I mean cyberpunk is basically, what if you only use Nvidia tech without a good alternative, its a benchmark for years to come since not even the 4090 can full path trace at 60 fps, too bad the company is dropping the engine to use UE 5 instead.
I think the 6900xt would have been a better comparison instead of the 6950xt . 6950xt especially being an OC 6900xt with higher clocks. Great video Daniel. Thanks again.
6950xt actually has faster mem. 18.0gb/s vs 16.0gb/s.
the faster mem are what make the 6750xt and 6950xt such bangers in the 6000 series line up.
got a 6950xt for $500 on ebay 3 months ago and was so afraid i'd regret not waiting for the 7800xt glad to see i wasn't wrong just glad amd got the price right for one of their cards
How did you get those numbers? Every other techtuber shows the 7800XT similar to a 6800 or a 6800XT.
I’m constantly seeing AMDs graphics cards stomp nvidias mid tier cards
While I'm pretty set on getting a 7800 XT later, I'd still like to remind that the 4070 is absurdly energy efficient compared to the AMD cards. It might not offer the best performance at its price point that could be a serious feature to someone building a low power setup.
amd cards are always overvolted, just like their cpus, if you adjust the voltage rising the power limit up you'll get better temps and a better watt/perf, also at stock there's like a 60Watts difference, not that much, easily adjustable
@@riccardotesta987like if the 4070 voltage can’t be lower. The 190/200power draw is the stock setting
Good choice getting the 7800xt. Nvidia's one strength though is its power efficiency on things like the 4070. According to the reviews from both Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed, the 4070 had about a ~45-50w advantage over the 7800xt on average (you can see the results in the 2nd half of both their reviews). That is not an insignificant lead, but its less than one might think (such as from seeing this video which featured a higher power consumption AIB model of the 7800xt). Both cards will get good gains from Undervolting, and all cards should do it, so when you get your 7800xt just try to shave off like ~50w worth of voltage while maintaining stock clocks. With even mediocre Silicon Lottery that should be doable, getting it close to ~200w which would be a Stock 4070 power consumption.
@@slickrounder6045yeah but you can also undervolt the 4070 for a crazy efficient SFF card
@@hotbitch3978 Ofcourse. The 4070 (and every cpu and gpu) should Undervolt. I fully support that. All cards will be much better when Undervolted and Tuned properly.
Personally, I think the best case on going AMD is if you're going to play at 4k. 7900xt/xtx. Because since most AAA games are now requiring you to turn on upscaler and in 4k the difference of fsr/dlss quality are very minimal. Basically AMD offers the best bang for buck 4k experience. For lower res, I think it will still be Nvidia being a lot more efficient. I still don't see the point on turning on fsr in qhd/hd res if it will greatly impacts image quality. Maybe for smaller screens but for 27" and up you will definitely notice the difference.
