Monitor/TV being more important is a very important message to those that are ignorant of it.
yes
100%
100%. People with money to burn will buy a 4090 PC but still don't have an OLED monitor, simply cuz they aren't aware of its benefits.
This is why I've argued that for a lot of gamers, console games will have better graphics because there is a good chance their TV will be a significantly better display than their monitor
Well many of us work with code and/or spreadsheets. So I just don’t want to risk burn ins and lcd ultra wide is fine for me too.
Sleep/resume is so important a feature. It is baffling Microsoft does such a poor effort on getting it to work on Windows.
windows has had its basic features neglected for years, it's one of the reasons I switched to Linux full time
Hibernate works on most games I have tried it with in the ROG Ally.
Yet the steam deck still cant download games while sleeping in gaming mode.😅

Yep. I'm hoping for and oled handheld that can do 120 or 144hz and also has hall effect sticks and bumpers.
Stream single player controller games and play multi-player or games that are better with mouse and keyboard on the pc.
What's the advantage to just using Steam's own streaming feature?
Honestly Steam link has come a long way. I personally love using it, but agreed streaming is better IMO. You get the best graphic setting and excellent battery life, since it's all the heavy work is done elsewhere.

I know the feeling Daniel, I have a 7900XTX and I've been playing a lot of Devil May Cry 3 these days.
I have a Lenovo Legion 7i 12900HX(16C/24T) RTX3080Ti(16GB VRAM) and the games I play the most are Oldschool Runescape, Team Fortress 2, and Halo MCC. I am a tech enthusiast and love my tech, but I have to agree it is overkill for what I play.
Great message on the importance of monitors. If you value visuals there's no point in building a high-end machine just to get it bottlenecked at the very end of the chain.
It's like feeding Hi-Res audio to dirt cheap TWS earphones with lossy codecs and wacky frequency response.
With upscaling and oled nobody really needs a 4090. You can enjoy oled all the time not just when gaming. 👍

It's strange, considering that I'm quite obsessed with audio quality when it comes to music playback and would go as far as to call myself an audiophile, but I don't care all that much about audio when it comes to gaming. Well, I do, but it's not up there on the list of priorities and since I'm broke...
Thing is I never really experienced good audio with games and that helps a lot. I'm sure it would have been way tougher if I was spoiled and knew what I am missing, like I do with regards to image quality.

This was the same thoughts I had when I switched from Switch V2 to Switch OLED. The same games, the same performance, but because the screen was bigger and better, it just elevated that whole experience for me
yup
In all honesty, I'm saving up for a 2nd Gen Steamdeck. Not only will it help get through that infuriating back catalogue during work breaks or on the train, it'll allow me to play more modern games at 900p-1080p at a more playable framerate.
Same. I also want a 1080-1440p screen not because I want to render games at 1080p, they can still render at 720p, but because text and UI elements are more legible at a higher resolution.

I own an LCD steam deck and a 4K 32 inch Oled display. I play most of my games on the steam deck because of comfort. Being able to chill on the sofa while playing is so much more comfortable than sitting in a chair in front of the PC
I have my pc connected to TV that is in front of sofa. I play pc games sitting on a sofa on 65 inch tv. Basically like playing on a console. No compromise.
@@Marko-ij4vy Same here, using my PC from a couch with a 55" LG OLED. I've been doing that since 2008 (first a 26" TV, then a 40" before finally getting the OLED).
But that's all in my gamer cave. It's not as convenient if you have an actual living room.
100%, I even stream more demanding games from my 3080 to the Deck because it's more comfy and I can push the settings.
I am literally writing this comment while sitting comfortably on my sofa looking at my TV, which is where I game.
I sit in my sofa and play pc games on my TV with Steam in big picture mode all the time.
I'll say this: I'm significantly more excited about the Switch 2, than any potential graphics card release over the next few years.
Handhelds actually provide more opportunities to game, which so much more valuable than a flat performance upgrade from a GPU.
Yes the switch is always in the dock saying wanna play when I walk down my hallway by the living room tv. 😮 And because it has a battery I just play it a little here and there but it’s my go to for video games actually right now!
Nintendo hates you.
I feel the same way! I don’t even care what switch 2’s performance is going to be. I’m just excited for all the first party Nintendo games. The Wii U is considered a failed console, but it still had an amazing first party software lineup. It feels like Nintendo just knows how to make fun games
Also excited about the Switch 2 but only because it will promote handhelds even more and incentivize others to jump in.
Steam Deck was the best purchase I’ve made in a long time. 2 years in no regrets

@@adamtajhassam9188Depends
@@adamtajhassam9188 it is true if you can afford a 4090. For most of us, we cannot afford a 4090, so it makes sense to say Steam Deck is better

@@adamtajhassam9188 It definitely is, at least to me, and I owned a 4090 for a couple months before selling it because it wasn't worth the money. I was so excited to get that card and then I was so disappointed that it didn't bring me the joy I expected.
It doesn't change HOW you play games. It just makes some games that actually push graphical fidelity to its limits (of which there aren't many) look a little better. And you get used to it extremely fast.
The Steam Deck changed how I approach gaming in the way Daniel described in the Video. And I'm single without kids. I kept my 3080 to stream more demanding games to the Deck from time to time.
I'm sure there are plenty of folks who prefer the 4090 though and that's totally fine.
Dont forget you can also stream games from your desktop to the steam deck as well if youre just playing at home.
That lets you play at higher graphics fidelity, frame rate, and the steam deck gets crazy battery life from it just being a stream of a game. This is also a way to play those games that dont run well/ at all on the deck but can run on your computer.
Valve has legitimise the pc handheld market and linux gaming will be their legacy on top of creating the steam store. And for that i will be greatful for that.
The steam deck with steam inputs/proton/standby on steamOS is still why its still a powerhouse despite being beaten by new hardware.
They also put Linux gaming on the map and put in so much work for free and allowed Linux gamers to enjoy so many more games than they could just a few years ago. You could play a lot of these games already but they required a lot of fiddling and work arounds, but now you just boot it up on steam and click play and thousands of games just work
I’ve legit been thinking about the Steam Deck a lot recently. I’ve got 2 rigs: 6900xt main, backup/secondary 6700xt. We just had our 3rd child and the game I’ve played the most this year has been Balatro. As much as I’d love to push my systems all the time, there really isn’t any time lol.
Do it
Just bought a steam deck yesterday, as someone with 3 part time jobs I don't have much time to just sit and play on my PC
In my opinion, this is sort of an extension of the reason of why people still play games on Nintendo Switch, especially if you got the OLED screen model.
When it comes to the time thing, Daniel, I totally feel you. Got a great, top-of-the-line PC with a 4090, and a couple of nice VR headsets, which is part of the reason I built the PC--but haven't turned it or the headsets on in the last month and a half, because I'm the sole caretaker of 3 close relatives, and they've all been going through it during that time.
I don't have a Steam Deck, OLED or otherwise... but after this, I'm maybe going to have to give it a look. Because I don't know when my time is going to be free enough to just sit down and play for awhile, without hearing my name every five damn minutes.
The frustration of having my mom call my name every 10 min or so is what did prevent me to get into multiplayer games since I was a teenager.
9:20 Yes yes and YES!!! I recently sold my fairly high end gaming PC, I just don't appreciate it when I game on it be it demanding games or non demanding games, I don't know what it is about it, maybe as you get older you start to appreciate different things, I've switched to a Mini PC now from MinisForum, the UM780 XTX model, Perfect for what I need.
Interesting take, thanks for sharing! I actually never thought about getting a steam deck but I might as well look into it now.
Surprisingly, I felt this with my desktop + laptop experience. Found myself using my laptop way more than my super powerful desktop.
If you still have both, stream to your laptop with sunshine/moonlight then you don't have to have it running on high performance mode, don't have to deal with laptop coolers and get better battery life.
@@KarlParl bro you're like a magician. How did I not know this existed! Thank you!
@@zackfair_og LOL! No problem.
You might also want to look into tailscale as well if you want to stream to laptop from your pc even if you're not home. You'll just need a good internet connection wherever you are.
05:00 I honestly think it's absurd to say that the Steam Deck LCD model has an "absolutely awful display". It's a pretty decent IPS panel, with good uniformity, relatively good pixel response, it gets REALLY bright ~550nits (above the 400nits VALVE states on their site). The base pixel color of the display is very dark, so blacks look WAY more black than let's say the original Switch. The only real bad thing I have to say about the display is the 60Hz refreshrate (because 90Hz+ is always nice to have), lack of VRR and the limited color range... The color range made the screen look quite dull in games. However, as soon as the VibrantDeck plugin came out, and later Valve's official solution. increasing vibrancy makes the display look pretty decent. Sure, compared to OLED, it's no competition, but when you come from a history of nintendo handhelds where you had massive ghosting, no backlight, and quite lately on the New 2DSXL it was a TN panel with pretty substantial ghosting... The Steam Deck does DEFINITELY not categorize as an "awful display" :) decent, and serviceable are better words for it.
This is the best Steam Deck OLED ad ive ever sat through ❤
I feel handhelds are going to create trouble for expensive PCs. Three are many on market now. They will become powerful in the future. U are asking the most important questions in your videos than other youtubers.
It's not just about being older or having kids. I've been playing handhelds since I was a kid. Sure I had my home consoles like the NES, SNES and so on and a very good PC for the time, but there's just something addicting about handhelds. You end up playing a lot more games than you actually planned on because you think "I'll just play this a bit and then go do something else" but it ends up sucking you in and you discover some great games in the process. Most of my favourite franchises and games today are games I played on a whim on a handheld like SMT/Persona, Ace attorney, Ace combat and so on. Steam deck just helped people see how good handhelds can be when paired with a competent OS and a platform like steam integrated into it, making the experience even more seamless.
Steam Deck was my dream from childhood - I always wanted a mini PC to play my games anywhere. That's exactly what Steam Deck is, fulfilling little boy's dream :D I've ordered first Steam Deck next day it was announced, later sold it and bought OLED. Because of it I'm now looking for OLED monitor. I totally agree with you that good screen is really important. Looking forward for more Steam Deck videos :)
I use in home streaming with moonlight. It's absolutely amazing. All the convenience of the deck, all the power of the desktop. The latency and quality are actually amazing - on my network, it's almost indistinguishable from native.

Oled is not an option for me at the current state of tech. I had several phones with oled displays so far and each one of them lost brightness significantly after 2 years (about 30% percent) and got a slightly brownish/yellow tint on all whites. With all oled dark mode and heavy use, that is.

I got a steam deck OLED about a week ago and I have the EXACT same feelings regarding playing lower-end games on my 4080 + LG C2 Setup.... (the guilt)
I have now created a specific Steam Deck backlog in my Steam library.
I bought a steam deck oled as an impulse buy on my bday. I honestly expected it to eventually collect dust in a week or two like the switch and 3ds and boy was I wrong. I play d4 in my game room on 4080 then downstairs on steam deck elsewhere. It’s amazing for many reasons, and I haven’t even got into emulators yet
Do you know what my last upgrades were? Getting a 7800X3D with motherboard and DDR5 and what I've been playing mostly ends up being a super old text-based MUD. Perfect system for such a game.
Last year I spent a ton of money upgrading my PC. Got a 4070TI, R5 7600, memory, and motherboard. Just 4 months later buy a Steam Deck and completely abandon the PC .-. If I could return, I would have saved that money and got the OLED Steam Deck instead of the basic LCD model. Another thing that the Deck has helped me is with my PS5 backlog. I was procastinating to finish some games on the PS5 because did not have the time to seat on the couch and play it, but with Chiaki4Deck I can just play a few minutes between tasks. I hope handhelds PCs keep getting better!
Tired of commenting the same thing over and over - Please give us the OLED monitor review!
What is this? Quantum TV?
Personality disorder?
Other folks have already reviewed it elsewhere. It has serious issues. For folks stuck with it, they are trying to address some of the problems with firmware updates. The C1 is amazing, because of its rolling scan option that greatly clarifies moving images. Even if issues addressed, the 32GS95UE just seems like such a let down after he possessed that legendary display. I guess Daniel never really knew what he had.
I'll save you some time. It's an OLED, it looks pretty good.
Monitors unboxed.
I prefer MnK controls for most games I play short of sidescrollers, which is why I still spend most of my game time at the desk despite having a Legion Go.
The Go gets most of its use during travel and as part of a portable setup, where I can stuff it in my carryon with the other components (like the monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.) going into checked luggage. It's more versatile than taking a gaming laptop, even if the package does take up more space as a whole. Great for knocking out more casual games.
Listening to your thoughts is making me appreciate the steam deck more and more. It sounds like Valve’s greatest accomplishment with the steam deck has been massively reducing the friction for starting and stopping a gaming session. It’s something I’ve never really thought about, and your personal situation really pushes that problem to the forefront. Reducing that friction has made gaming much more enjoyable and accessible for you, and it could also possibly make a difference in my experience with gaming too even though my life isn’t as time-constrained as yours. I’m left really wanting a steam deck, but I’ll probably stick to my switch. It has a lot of the same benefits as the steam deck, but those steam sales cannot be beat haha
I'm currently buying the parts for my first gaming pc and I got a nice monitor for it. I got that QD-Oled monitor by Alienware with the panel being made by Samsung, because OLED spoiled me too lol. But yeah, I'm building around a 4080 super and i-7 13700K. I'm supper stroked to play games with all the bells and whistles, and I can say that I'm joining the PC master race but I still love console games because they were always there for me. but yeah, that's my 2 cents
Steam Deck is amazing! I see it more as a companion to my main PC, but i will always be a sucker for handheld gaming.

Getting the steam deck was a game changer for me. I am at the point in life where I have the money to buy all the games and have an awesome gaming PC but I have no time to play. I have two girls one 7 one 4 and no more gaming time. The decks continue function is awesome. I get a few minutes to play so it is great. And also one of my great experiences with the deck include a cheap 1080p Chinese projector and a big wall. The other night I finally started to play South park the stick of truth. I connect it to the projector and had a hell of a time playing it.
I really hope handhelds will gain more traction so that developers have the incentive to make their games run well on it. Every game can be scaled down while still looking good if you put in the effort.
Ive been utilizing moonlight streaming for games that struggle on the deck. So playing games maxed out on the decks OLED screen is beautiful
The Steam Deck has been one of the most impressive pieces of gaming hardware in the last 10 years, love my OLED model and cant wait to see what they bring with the Deck 2.0
Idk why I wasn't subscribed to you yet despite watching your videos for a while now lol, but you made some great points here.
On buying games that run on steam deck: I hope more people start buying Steam Decks, because maybe it will put some pressure on devs to optimize their games for it. I think most Steam Deck users feel the same way; If it doesn't really run on the Steam Deck, we don't really want to buy it.
On monitors: Yeah. I've had this 1440p 170hz monitor for like 3 years now. It was a great price, it looks decent, and it's the perfect size. But I don't think it really hit me how much the monitor matters for immersion until I started playing my Steam Deck OLED more. I have been playing like a few minutes at a time of Cyberpunk 2077 on my main monitor since it came out, and I have just never been really impressed by the visuals... until I tried it on the Steam Deck OLED. It literally does not matter that it can only do 30fps... it just looks phenomenal with that OLED screen, and I feel like I'm seeing the game for the first time. I'm telling you Cyberpunk looks better on low settings, 30fps on that Steam Deck OLED than it does at psycho/ultra/whatever on my 1440p IPS. It's crazy. And I can freaking play it in bed!
If you haven't tried it yet I 100% reccomend that you try sunshine/moonlight. You can run your games on your high end PC at max settings, at let's say 2x the resolution of the deck (for upsampling purposes) and stream to it with virtually no latency. Even for games that the deck can handle on its own, the battery life change is huge because it's just using the hardware video decoder. Add tailscale and you can even use it away from your house without opening any ports!
Nevermind I just got to the part where you mention it lol
I have a 4090 in my pc gets used maybes twice a week. Steam deck Oled is used daily. Totally agree being a dad this is the perfect device.
Same, the SD is a really good device for me as a new dad as well. I still use my PC though, moonlight streaming is absolutely goated on the deck. Also: with a good network 4k streaming is very possible when using your deck docked. My 3080 actually can't keep up with that demand lol and I'm actually going to upgrade it when the 5000 series hits, even though I'm not gaming in front of my PC's monitor very often anymore.
Absolutely agreed. I had ps5, pc with 13700 and 4080 and I even had original steam deck and rog ally. But when I got steam deck oled I sold all my stuff. And now I have only MacBook Pro for work stuff and steam deck oled and I love it.
There is a bit of screen lottery with the steamdeck oled. I was a bit disappointed jumping from the lcd model to oled because my oled model has an EXTREME green tint that no settings can fix. Seems to be specifically the oled models that use samsung displays. Mine also has awful moire patterns clearly visible on most greys. That said, the 90hz refresh, hdr, and better battery life still make it a nice upgrade.
I love the deck so much.. I’m excited for a more powerful update though especially with new chips that are coming out in the next year...
I'm in a similar situation - husband and father with a 6800xt pc and a steamdeck. I am probably 50/50. My main pc while I am working from home and steamdeck when I am around family.
Have both, but the low frame rates kill me as input latency feels really bad on some titles. One thing I do love though is the fact that Valve is supporting Linux so damn well. Enables me to ditch windows finally, and not looking back.
the deep sleep feature is what make me love PS VITA when I first got it.
The steam deck was my favorite PC purchase (including a couple high end PC builds) of the last 6 or so years. The only thing I can think of is when I got a 1080TI and a 1440p 144hz monitor that I liked more. Honestly if I had to give up my high end PC or my Steam Deck, I'd be sad about giving up my PC but I'm giving that up.
Just got a Steamdeck OLED a couple months ago.. I only use my PC for the most demanding games now. In my mind i'm just buying time for my OLED desktop monitor to last longer since Windows 11 won't activate my screensaver when it's supposed too.
Same here. Switch and Steam Deck Oled for me.
Been owning the LCD model for literally 11 months now when I checked out of curiosity yesterday, and man, this thing is a gem of technology and literally the best all-round pc handheld that currently exists.
When I bought it I was still running my budget pc that I had since I was 13, but now after upgrading everything due to wanting to get into 3D animation... yeeah the Deck is still more used by me than my pc 😅. The comfort of being able to just chill on a couch or anywhere outside is just so much better than sitting infront of a desk, let alone the Sleep feature.
No regret from buying this whatsoever..... Until I remember about the OLED which was revealed 4 or 5 months after I got my Deck. Still salty as fuck about that, but I'm gonna wait until Deck 2 cause cash ain't easy to just throw around like that.
So true, I usually will use my steam deck at the end of the day on the couch with my wife. Just a few years ago I would spend all my time on my desktop
Im definitely getting the next Steam Deck (2)
I have a desktop with a 13900k and RTX4090, also a laptop with 13900hx and RTX 4080 with two 65" QD-OLED TVs (S90C and S95D).
But a steam deck is perfect for ultra portable playing and the next will have substantially better battery life given the Intel and AMD providing battery-friendly CPUs while VASTLY improving iGPU tech in exponential fashion.
Why do you have a super powerful laptop if you have a state of the art desktop? You are sacrificing battery life with those laptop specs but maybe you just have that much to spend without much thought behind it. What do you do for a living?
@@Stardomplay I am a systems engineer.

I have a Steam Deck, a Legion Go, and a 3080 Ti based PC. They all get play time because some games just don't do well on handhelds(though some run surprisingly well like Metro Exodus and TLOU Part 1), and demand being played on a larger or ultrawide screens.
Of course, you can hook the handhelds up to an external display but the lower res will be very apparent because even though they can output resolutions up to 4k, good luck running games at higher resolutions with decent settings and fps, not to mention the ridiculous power drain higher performance profiles require.
Having a lot of fun playing 2D games lately on my not-at-all gaming-spec laptop (iGPU only, 10 years old).
Fun gameplay, low minimum requirement, easy and convenient to play anywhere. It's a great time. More casual like I used to feel like playing on a console. Kinda the good old days.
The more I play Steam Deck, the more passion I felt from Valve.
Considering how Valve bet into open source project like Proton, VLKD3D...
And the software keep pushing the hardware to new capability like an evolving miracle.
For example, Cyberpunk 2077 ran about 33 fps for a preset for me. But now with software advance and a framegen mod installed.
It boosts to more than 45 fps for me with almost no visual degrades.
Owen, please also try out desktop mode sometimes. You might find it really enjoyable as well.
I would agree with you, if the Steam Deck had VRR support, or some sort of frame gen tech, or some sort of auto hdr tech, or the support for vsync off which is still broken since last year.
yeah only one problem with all handhelds - no keyboard and mouse
that really limits what I would play on it (personal preference, don't really like gamepads for most games)
no issues playing indie games on my watercooled 4080, I kinda enjoy it that it runs half the clocks to max my refresh rate fps limit and runs super cool and doesn't heat my room at all
When you say gaming on a "Steam Deck", what I interpret that to mean is PC gaming without the mouse and keyboard. In this situation I can definitely agree with you.
I have a home office with a gaming PC (4090 with a 7800X3D) attached to a 43 inch display, complete with VR and a haptic / motion enabled custom built racing simulator for GTR 2. (Yes I'm a Gen X-er). The racing simulator is truly the only reason I use my "gaming PC" nowadays to actually play games (a three hour race every Sunday), okay along with RTS type games and serious FPS games (Squad and Ready or Not), but those are not even thrice a month.
In my living room however, I have a "HTPC" attached to a 75 inch MiniLED (a 5800X3D with a 7900XTX) and that is where I have for the past 5 years played games for what I would traditionally use my office "Gaming PC" for. So yeah, I've found myself using a PS5 Dual Sense or Xbox 360 Pad for 80% of my PC gaming sessions. I've been playing Duke Nukem 3D 20th Ann' on Steam for the past few days with the DualSense and its just bitchin. Just as kickass as I remembered from way back when.
I have a Legion GO, but have never actually used it to play games in a serious sit-down session. I still treat PC gaming, watching movies and listening to music as a dedicated and separate planned events in my life. I'm one of those that still have a "Hi-Fi" system in my living room with a Dolby ATMOS / DTS system attached to the HTPC as a basis for my iMAX home theatre system. (complete with bass shakers in the sofa, etc). Yes, all of my PCs have Sound Blaster (X-Fi) cards and all have dedicated room mounted 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound systems.
So yeah, I get the PC gaming without the mouse and keyboard side of things. PC gaming has definitely come quite a ways since the 90s, that's for sure, but I really do think its for the better.
Totally agree on the monitor comment. When I updated to a 4070 card I also got a nice Samsung 32" 144hz monitor and its been a fantastic gaming experience. Both the 32" screen and the RTX 4070 seem to be the sweet spots for me for meow.
2k or 1080?
I love Elden Ring and the Monster Hunter games on my Steam Deck OLED. The colors and HDR-Content in this games are breathtaking.
The 2024 gameboy, love it
Fun fact: according to Valve's own data, more people own 4090s than SteamDecks. Lol.
After a long day at office what I least want to do is to sit at another desk at look into another monitor for another few hours.
Having Switch/Steam Deck lets you go to bed/balcony/couch and just relax.
Especially it's good to have a handheld console if you live with gf/wife + have kids and your attention is suddenly needed ASAP.
It's true. That's why the best of both worlds would be having the high end hardware AND the free time to actually USE it. One can dream😔
In order to have the high-end hardware, you need to put in the work to earn money to get it. But then, you don't get the time to use it.
during the pandemic this happened to me but with a gaming laptop
I have to wake up at 4AM to play games for 2 hours before work haha
Madness
Waking up earlier to play games is wild lol
I just bought a legion go on sale. And it's been fantastic so far. I also have a 4090 pc and an oled 4k 240hz. But sometimes it's nice to lay in bed and play a game.
Also steam remote play works really well on it. 120hz with no noticeable latency. It doesn't get much better
I’ve been using moonlight to stream from my 3080 ti rig. Works great on the Rog ally and steamdeck. Plus my battery last for ever
The one thing I miss going from series x over to PC is the quick resume, hands down best feature besides higher refresh but now that's going down with newer games.
This has been my experience 100%. Don't have the OLED, but definitely upgrading to the next gen. Hopefully in the next couple years 😢
"The blacks arent black" Daniel Owen 2024
first, love the content Daniel! Just bought an OLED, looking forward to playing it when i’m home from holiday
9:50 I definitely have the same feeling. I got one of the new 4k 240 HZ oleds, a 7900 XTX, and a 7950 x3d this year, and my most played game is balatro lmao.
I finally threw windows onto my steam deck and I've been more obsessed with it now. Been playing MW3 and hell divers 2 on it.
Noticing a lot of games performed significantly better without steam proton
Always love it when I buy a high end gaming PC and end up playing 20 year old emulated games or indies that could run on a lukewarm potato :D
Edit: I own both Oled Deck and PC but am not quite bound by dad life like you are so my split is more like 75% PC and 25% Deck, depending on the day and what I'm doing. If and when the electricity prices jump for a day, I'm usually just playing on my Deck all day so it offers great flexibility in case you need it. I would recommend Oled Deck for anyone that's curious about the form factor and the advantages it can bring. It's emulation beast and can play most popular Steam games quite fine after some tinkering. Looking forward to Deck 2 with high hopes and expectations.
I work remote, barely leave the house, and don’t have kids but honestly, same.
If it’s a 3rd person game I aim for 40 fps. If it’s a first person game I aim for 60. If it can hit those I play it on Steam Deck. And I do very often look for more games to play on Steam Deck rather than my PC.
It’s nice being able to spend time with my wife in the living room or just lay in bed and wind down with the cat on my lap before bed.
AS a 38 year old 4090 enjoyer you are 1000% percent right. I don't have time. Lord Gaben has saved my gaming life. Gotta min max the gaming on my breaks.
I'm gonna take your 4090 any day of the week :D I play on my gaming PC during my lunch break when working from home and also late in the evening when kids sleep.
on the feeling guilty when you get an expensive setup thing - i totally have had that! and i ALSO realised i actually don't need even a GOOD system because i mostly play games on console anyway because i hate messing around with Windows. i think being fine with medium settings on a steam deck screen has been freeing tbh!
This is what I try to tell everyone who asks me for pc building advice! The monitor is the final bottleneck. I always choose my monitor first, and then build the pc around it
My gaming pc , both of them and the Xbox Series X are just collecting dust for the moment, I have been playing on Ally 90% in the last 3 months due to a new son, so as a father of two now I can really relate to your view in this video 😂
I totally agree with what you are saying here. I don’t have a steam deck, but can definitely see the appeal. I tend to game a couple times a week and end up playing warzone with mates for the most part. I tend to play this, as the games are relatively short so if I need to jump off I can. I’ve really enjoyed Control, Alan Wake 2 and Starfield, but as yet I’ve not completed for the reasons you have outlined. And yes my 4090 is overkill for Warzone when the frame rate is capped at my monitors refresh rate. Runs cool and quiet though.
I also agree on the monitor point as well. I’ve had an OLED TV for years, so once an OLED monitor was available, I had to order it straight away (take my money now kind of situation 🤑 ).
I've had both Steam Decks and I've never thought to just use the stand-by button on single player games. I've always exited out of the games and shutdown which means I have to boot it and load everything back up. I feel guilty not using my Steam Deck enough cause I have a couple high end PCs. I love the device though. Going to try and get through my single player backlog now with that stand-by button.
I don't have a Steam Deck but I can relate as I built a PC with 4090 and 7800X3D last year but literally played zero games on it (heck I don't even use it for anything, still using my old PC for browsing and stuff), all my game playing is happening on Nintendo Switch 🙃
Both my Switch and TV (which the PC hooked to) are OLED.
He totally nailed why we end up playing more on the steam deck than our PCs. It's a family thing
It depends on how good you can adapt with consoles. As a KBM player myself, I just can't stand these consoles approach too much. It was hard. I tried to get used to but ended up satisfaction is what I'm looking for when playing games. Maybe I'm fine with racing or sport games but shooting games? Just 8:32 not great. I kinda like the OLED but yeah the gameplay or immersion matters too than the visual or graphics. I'm not even that old yet but I kinda agree, the more I live the more I have lesser time to game on the fixed setup. But the handhelds are not the option either as I'm not enjoying mobile games that much. So torn. If we all buying handhelds then the gaming era will be remedied again since none of us requires higher res, higher graphics, higher fps anymore isn't? These never better than a desktop PC, just more convenience. 🤷♀
Yeah, I play Aladdin on mine, a blast from the past.
btw you can actually pause Elden Ring. You go into inventory, then help, then menu explanation and them you stay like that. The game is paused.
A game not having a pause function is a deal breaker for me.
The Steam Deck fixes that for your
alright man . didn't have to flex that 4090 on my broke ass damn 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Move your broke ass into a job that doesn't involve saying "Would you like fries with that order?" and you'll be able to get a 4090.
Bro just get to work man like stop calling yourself a broke ass just get off your ass and grind for it like if you want something enough you will get it writing a comment on how broke you are is not gonna change your situation sadly
going itx or even mini pc with steam deck on side sounds great
