Interesting story with how the 3DO version came about. The developer who created it, Rebecca Heineman, shares the story of its nightmare development on her channel. Very crazy story!
IIRC the guy running the company that hired Rebecca to do the port had no idea how game development actually worked and thought adding stuff like new weapons and enemies was as simple as dragging-and-dropping. He DID however know music, and that's why the soundtrack is so awesome and the only redeeming factor of the port. Doom on the 3DO is bad, but it's a miracle that it even came out at all. Much like Doom on the SNES or Street Fighter Alpha 2 on the... SNES. Weird how the majority of people only use the "yeah it sucks but it's impressive" card when it's a Nintendo game, huh.
SNK NEO GEO tech explainer coming (with regard to RIDING HERO): For all the excellent stuff the machine can do it has a big flaw when compared to every single console from the NES and Master System up to the Saturn and almost every arcade of that period: The NEO GEO has ONLY sprites to draw the screen. A LOT of HUGE sprites. This would not be a problem in most cases as instead of background tiles you just move sprites. However you cannot really do RASTER effects with sprites. The classic 8 bit and 16 bit ROAD effect (Out run, hang on, or even the floor in Street Fighter 2) is done by moving the background at a different pace for every scanline. However this appears to be something very tricky to achieve with sprites (the ones in the NEO GEO are thin and tall, as tall as the whole screen height). Riding Hero and that nice Golf game are the only NG games even attempting this and it is obvious that the approach is different.

This comment hits a little different in 2024 😂
I don't see what's wrong with the Neo Geo Games. Maybe the Higashi no Joe gameplay is bad but it really resembles the Manga/Anime.
Hooters girl: Hi! Welcome to Georgia!
Shitty southern accent while wearing an Airizona shirt. 🙄
about the cancelled doom port running on the first engine, it could be wonderfull for preservation that some of the developers will share with us a video or a build of it running on saturn. it will be very good for all the community and educational purpose.
its really hard to contact those developers
@@Blueflag04 i remember that i was chatting with a former psygnosis developer Who went to work to rage software at the time of PS2 but i Am almost sure that he didn't knew anything about Doom for saturn.
I just woke up and now having breakfast. Great video to wake up to new Sack
F-16 Fighting Falcon was programmed in the SMS' legacy mode... aka SG-1000 mode.
Without Dave the episodes are very Sega heavy.
Eh. People said that when Dave was here as well. Makes up for all of the Nintendo-heavy YT vids out there I suppose.
U r the best gaming retro channel man... Never stop
