Anna: "I cut it before I was bit. Before."
That's an interesting parallel between Joel and Anna because Anna lied to protect Ellie, to give her a chance at a future, whereas Joel, also lied to protect Ellie from being burdened by a chance/choice that was robbed from her.

Ashley Johnson (Ellies Mom, Anna and VA for Ellie in the games) and Laura Bailey (One of the nurses and VA for Abby in 2nd Game) made this episode so special. Loved all the cameos and the fact that both of them are great friends IRL (and are on Critical Role together.)

Ellie: So time heals all wounds does it?
Joel: It wasn’t time that did it…..
    😭😭😭😭😭
I played this game 10 years ago and to this day it is one of the single greatest stories ever told. I remember debating with other gamers for over a year about if Joel made the right decision or not. The question of “You have a chance to save the world but the cost is that you lose the person you love the most in the world after already suffering that pain before”. The answer, the REAL answer, is that both Joel and Marlene made the wrong decision, because that decision should’ve been Ellie’s to make. In the Last Of Us (GAME) podcast Neil Druckman talks about how Joel and Marlene had no right to take that choice away from Ellie. She would’ve said yes, and then Joel would have no choice but to respect her wish. She wanted the deaths of all the people she had lost, Riley, Tess, Henry and Sam, to mean something. Even if it cost her her life. And even though a small part of her knows in her heart that Joel was lying to her she feels that she can’t let herself believe that the only person she loves in the world took away her chance to save the world.
Also I love that Ashley Johnson got to play Ellie’s mom Anna. It was a beautiful full circle moment that the woman who plays Ellie in the games played her mother in the show. And it sucks that even though we have to wait a couple more years for season 2, it will be worth the wait!
    Until then, Endure And Survive!

What I don't understand is why Marlene didn't talk to Ellie about the whole situation and be honest with her before prepping her for surgery. Why does she have to do it right away? They just crossed the country. At least give Joel and Ellie a day or two to recovery and catch up with things with the Firefly. I mean I kind of understand. Marlene doesn't want Ellie to be afraid and change her mind. So in a way, both Marlene and Joel are guilty of taking that decision away from Ellie.

You kind of missed the knife her mom killed the infected with. The same one Ellie's had all this time. The difference with playing a game and watching a series is that your focus in the game is always going to be somewhat different because people want the action. Some gamers don't even care about stories and only about the action. I played the game and watched this series and I loved the series because they added a lot of human interaction stories which really helped flesh out (sic) the story.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume what the spoiler you're talking about is (I won't say it too, so I don't spoil anyone who didn't play the game), and I have to say, even though it seems bad without context, it set everything into motion in the second game. And I'll go against what your friends told you and say: the second game is very, very good. It's an emotionally scarring experience, something I haven't felt with any other game ever. But it's very worthwhile. You should definitely play the game, not just watch the cutscenes, just so you're fully invested in the events, and especially you should go into it with an open mind. I think Neil Druckmann definitely took some risks with the second game, and even though it was hard to accept and wasn't what I was expecting, it gave me an incredible experience. One that couldn't be achieved without that event. Take that as you will.
As for this season, I thought it was really good. I also preferred the game, but the show managed to capture the magic of it. It is very faithful to the source material, and I enjoyed the additions to the story that kinda only work in this format (the Bill episode and the scene with Ellie's mom at the beginning of this episode). And yes, the scene with Ellie's mom wasn't in any of the games.
