- The Last of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. Amazing Episode, Amazing Reaction - Joel & Sarah's scene is so heartbreaking - both in-game and now in live action - overall, a phenomenal episode!
Interesting seeing reactions from people who are not already totally familiar with the story
SO HAPPY I have never played, either. So pleased these guys are the ones who haven't played
If it’s able to catch them, and people like me who has played the game MULTIPLE times that means they did their job right
Same, i try to find reactors who have not played the game and watch their videos.
Yeah its good that people can see how amazing the game was and what we went through emotionally playing the game back in the PS4 days
@@samushunter0048 PS4 Days!? I bought this game day one on PS3. Am I that old that people only know of the remaster on PS4 :O
"How're you gonna take away Pedro Pascal's kid? That's his thing, he's the dad."
Truer words have never been spoken.
I laughed unreasonably hard at "How are you gonna take Pedro's kid? That's his whole thing, he's the daddy." It really is.
you guys should definitely add "blind reaction" to the title because 3 people who haven't played the last of us is pretty rare
Not a bad idea!
good advice for all reactors because that's what i'm looking for
@@sgtmian me too actually, lol
How is that rare? Millions of people havent played The last of us. Lol
@@MMaRsu Not all of them make Reaction videos
I’m so excited to see people experience this story. I played the game more times than I can count just like so many others, and I’m so glad that gamers and non gamers are getting to see this. Hope you guys enjoy.
Exactly what I was gonna say! Took the keystrokes right out of my fingerprints lol
@@Smokey1419 100% dude
I love ellie's look at joel at the end. She's looking at someone, for the first time in her life, who went all in on protecting her at that moment.
Yeah her facial acting is awesome there. Loved that alteration from the game
I didn't see it that way. It looked like she was shocked at his sudden violence. She's still fairly 'innocent' here and this stranger just beat a man to death in front of her.
@@yukis4422 nop Yuki, she is no stranger to violence at this point.
@@yukis4422 nah, in the comic that was released before the show it shows she has seen violence before. The look she gave during the beating was a look of deep interest, not too excited but with focus and a bit of thrill. She enjoyed the vicious act of the beating, even despite the result of the act, but probably doesnt even know why herself, she just does. I think the actor is doing a great job portraying deeper emotions 🔥
The first 30 minutes captured the game perfectly and losing Sarah was gut wrenching to watch in live action
Yes it was bro yes it was
The brilliance of the opening scene is that all that science discussed in the beginning about fungi is basically 100% true. It makes the series feel more real while simultaneously contextualizing the series as a cautionary tale: not that fungi will turn us all into zombies anytime soon, but rather that our callousness to nature and our planet as a species will eventually come back to bite us.
Not really as a vet spe in microbiology this part is very confusing and inaccurate. There are a lot of fungi who infect humans including the brain. We also have anti-fongus and we can’t really predict how they will work on a fictional Cordyceps specie so saying there nothing we can do is very dramatic. Also Cordyceps are use in médecine and cooking.
I guess you can say that the part were he explain evolution is more or less true but it need to be more than just a 1 degree difference, but it’s an easy way to explain how evolution is needed when the environment change. It can evolve or it can die and disappear forever like must of the time it’s happened.
Don’t get me wrong I love the franchise but I wish they didn’t include this part…
@@bochenskisteven nah, it really worked. Only true experts like you will find inaccuracies. And I am speaking as a Medic
@@chewiewins and as a medic how many time did you saw a yeast or mold taking control of the brain, just being curious ? Because apparently in 68 we didn’t know that fungi can infect the human body.
Not to even mention the big evolution needed to infect a human host, a Cordyceps need to change not only it’s resistance against higher temperatures but also it’s surface proteins and secretive enzymes. It’s not a little evolution at best it will take multiple centuries to evolve at this point if needed.
And I will not talk about the symptoms they are stupid, I don’t need to explain why if you are a doctor.
I like the originality of the last of us but it’s infection is not smarter than any other « agressive » pathogens of other zombies/infected movies/series…
@@bochenskisteven You duufus, it's entertainment and a show. All I am saying is it is better attempt than just say zombies.
@@chewiewins on that’s we can agree
I typically don’t like to be hyperbolic, but, this might actually be my favorite TV pilot episode I’ve ever seen. NO JOKE. It was absolutely masterful in every facet of filmmaking. It’s easily the best and most faithful video game adaptation of all time as well. Also, who knew Bella Ramsey, LYANNA F**KING MORMONT, could be so hilarious. “6, 7, F**k, you” and “holy shit, i’m actually outside” absolutely SENT me. Bella and Pedro were AMAZING.
I honestly had the same thought. It might be the best pilot I've seen. Up there with the best. breaking bad, game of thrones, last kingdom, walking dead, fargo etc. I think this might be the best pilot I've seen
Some curiosities since you haven't played the game:
During the prologue, there's a session where you're in car controlling Sarah and you can basically just look around. The one shot on the car was a good way to mimic that.
Robert has a bit more presence in the game; going after him is essentially the tutorial.
The acoustic guitar you hear in the soundtrack is all from the game.
These two buildings they're heading towards in the ending shot is an actual location from the game they go to.
Edit: 2 more I forgot to mention
The actress that portrays Marlene is the same from the games.
Most of their outfits resemble the games, like Joel's, Ellie's, Sarah's and Marlene's t-shirts
Yes, they 100% recreated what Sarah (we) saw in the game, and most of the game so far in general. I was even telling my niece what Sarah will see next from the car in the show. My Niece also now understands I wasn't just playing a "shot um up" zombie game as well!
As a huge fan of this game, it's so amazing to see the story and characters already being embraced by those who haven't seen the source material.
You're all in for a ride
“She got stung by a bee? What happened?” That took me out 😂😂
Lmaoo same here 😂😂 caught me so off guard
It’s way better seeing people react to something they aren’t familiar with. Subbed👍🏼
Thanks for the sub!
I’ve been watching reactions all day, this is my favorite one! You guys are the best! I was in to this show before this reaction, now I’m even more excited to watch the rest of the season with you guys❤
Wow, thank you!
Hell yeah, so glad you guys liked it! I'm so excited to see people unfamiliar with the game watch this. I'm still smiling ear to ear about how faithful and how much respect the story of the game was shown. I feel like its already the best videogame adaptation we've ever gotten and I've only seen episode one. So if they keep that up, you guys are in for one heck of an emotional roller-coaster! Hope you guys enjoy! (And YES, shoutout to WILLOW, everyone reading this comment go watch it and their reactions!)
This is straight out of the game. The entire beginning up to Sarah’s death was amazingly adapted.
I love this 1st episode. Last Of Us, Breaking Bad and Wandavision are so far the only 3 live action shows I've watched where I'm immediately hooked with it within like the first 2 minutes
Wandavision had you hooked from the jump?
@@de.velop519 It certainly had me.
Have you watched The Boys?
Thanks for mentioning Wandavision. One of the best shows ive seen in the last couple years.
Black Summer
I’ve been waiting 3 years for this since the show was announced, and it was worth the wait!!! The opening for this series was completely different from the original game yet it was so freaking perfect! It described how dangerous fungi and Cordyceps specifically EVEN BETTER a than the game! There’s actually a video the WIRED put up on their RUclips channel where a scientist says that if the planet does get warm enough then fungi will in fact evolve enough to withstand our body temperature and infect humans. And even the entire Outbreak Day flashback was somehow even done better. My heart was pounding the moment Sarah woke up. I’ve played the game 7 times already and thought I could prepare myself for Sarah’s death, but nope, I was almost as broken as Joel.
As for Ellie, Bella Ramsay was as perfectly cast as Ellie as The rest of the cast was. And in the behind the scenes feature for this episode the creator Neil Druckman said that Ellie was almost happy watching Joel protect her because she has never had a parental figure in her life. God this show is going to be AMAZING!
So happy y’all get to experience this story!
Hey guys! Love the reaction.
The scene where the watch is being fixed, the owners are Lebanese and the woman is speaking to the man in Arabic and apparently she's been updated by her sister about something happening.
The first line is "Enta mesh 'aam tesma3?" means "Didn't you hear?"
Then the line after that "Kont 'am bahky 'al telephone ma' okhty, ma andak fikra 'an ma beyseer, OK?" which translates to "I've been talking with my sister on the telephone and you have no idea what's been going on, OK?"
The man then says "I'm already finished", her next line in Arabic is "Tab khalisni e'tini eyaha ba'a" which is "Then hand it over, come on."
Thank you for the translation!
Sarah, Joell's daughter, is played by Thandie Newton's daughter. In case anyone was wondering why she looked so much like her.
Also, the scene when Sarah is in class and the reflection from the bracelet is hitting her face. It looks like the kid is trying to her attention but his hand is shaking. First sign of the infection we see. Blink and you miss it.
It might be dumb and small but what I liked most from the episode was Gabriel Luna as Tommy, he sounded just like Tommy from the game and I also liked how Joel straight bodied Ellie when they first met🤣
I know he's not who plays Tommy but 😂 I definitely looked it up to double check when he came into the kitchen
The fact that more people finally get to experience this story that haven't played the game and you guys going into this blind makes this 10x more better!
The Mandalorian travels around the galaxy to deliver a special child….Joel travels around the country to deliver a special child…….coeincidence for Pedro?

I'm not a gamer so I'm not familiar with the LOU story but after watching the 1st episode, I'm very curious what kept going Joel going for the 20 years after losing Sarah and before meeting Ellie. His existence seems so utterly joyless and hopeless -- what motivated him to continue to struggle to survive for those 20 years?
Throughout the game there are things that hint at what Joel did to survive, terrible things, but never is explicitly said.
Its implied but never stated that Joel lost all of his humanity after Sarah and he & Tommy survived as cutthroat raiders or something close to it for a time, but Tommy couldnt live with it and left Joel. Seems like the show might go into this more.
They were part of the Hunter faction for a while until Tommy joined the fireflies and Joel went his own way.
The Hunter faction is filled with the most vile people so it’s very much implied Joel did horrendous things to survive.
He was a hunter ( tlou bandit) and spent some time robbing and even killing innocents just to survive until both and his brother had different ideology’s and Tommy went off to join the fireflies before living in the quarantine zone
“You have to keep finding things to fight for” - Joel (in the game)
lmao i loved the chorus of "nope nope nope nope" at 7:26
PlayStation 5 and last of us sales are gonna skyrocket after this amazing pilot 😂😂 I myself after watching the first episode, started the game again for the 100th time.
I still remember the intro, the first time I played that game.
Sarah's death hit me like a truck.
Fantastic game.
there won’t be very many blind reactions of tlou here on youtube so i’m very happy to see some of my favorite guys leading the way! can’t stress enough how much i adore this channel and the good vibes you 3 always bring, individually and together. i already watched you all but you can bet your cordyceps that i’ll be here for this show every week! thank you guys for all you do 🫡💛.
sidenote, i hope you never get rid of that intro/background/end credit music. literally the best anti skip beat i’ve ever heard lol such a bop.
I just came from Blind Wave's reaction, was so excited to watch them knowing they all played the game, then remembered you guys haven't played it AAAHHHH suuuuper hyped for you guys going into it blinder than Blind Wave lmao all my fav bois
Cried during the games opening so many years ago,…and I’m crying now.
the Depeche Mode famous song fits perfectly at the end of the episode with its message
I've been watching TLOU reactions all week, and I can confidently say y'all have the best one I've seen.
~30min videos are so much better than the 50min+ ones, and you guys edit them REALLY well so we don't miss the best moments.
Hopefully my sub will get you closer to another 100k!
I am super excited for fresh reactions. So far today I have only watched people who already played the game. So it will be nice watching both types week to week.
ive only played the smallest part of the game, i didnt have a lot of spare time when it was released... but the opening, did such an incredible job of setting the scene... it could have easily been 2 hours in itself. im looking forward to watching this show AND i also want to go play more of the game
I honestly love that each episode is like 80 minutes long and not like those normal series that have like 40 minutes for each episode
ooooooof no one tell this person about episode 2
Not every episode is 80 minutes. They just combined episode 1 and 2 cause the executives realized no one would want to come back for the show if it ended at episode 1’s half-way point.
There not 80 minutes only episode one is an hour but they need to be 2 hour episodes
@@MJ-420. Tonight’s episode is also close to 80 minutes, as is episode 5.
“That dog is the best actor” 😂❤️
The actress that portrays Marlene is also her Voice Actress in the game. Troy Baker, who voices Joel in the games, is also to make an appearance.
You’re right, there are new people finding your channel; hi!!
Great reaction guys, really good commentary
Shoutout to the reactors who are familiar with the material but fresh eyes are gonna be the most fun to watch. Enjoy boys!
Out of all the “what is up homies” that was def the most aggressive
LOL..."what's this...a little tiny tamale? I'll take it"
The song at the end of the episode is, Never Let Me Down Again, by Depeche Mode.
So when I first played this game and I got to the end of the intro, I had to stop playing for at least a half hour. It was gutted. I never thought I'd still be able to be effected by that scene again but the live action version found me just as gutted. As a father of girls, that reaches into my soul and tears me apart. This season of TV is going to be SO good.
Most underrated channel on RUclips right now! Glad you keep growing!!
Congratulations on 100K!!! Best video game adaptation and it’s only the first episode! Look forward to your reactions moving forward!
Man I thought you guys played the game. Cool to see the perspective from people who've never played those epic cinematic stories that just so happen to be video games
The blurry back ground scene with the old lady was so creepy i loved it! Thats some good directing! And good acting!
I love that Anna Torv from Fringe is in this!
I used to watch y'all when you were on a diff channel like 4 years ago. I'm so happy to find you guys again but also happy you're reacting to this show 💜
You got me as a new subscriber! :D It's good seeing others that share my culture indulge in nerdy things, and it's even more exciting to see y'all react to my favorite single-player video game franchise. This episode had things that even people like me, people who are extremely familiar and in love with this entire franchise, on the edge of our seats, and I really hope that, at the end of this series, we can see you play the story because it's "full of unconditional love, and that can be problematic" as Neil Druckmann (co-president of naughty dog and creative director/writer of The Last of Us 1) and Craig Mazin said in their podcast.
Welcome to the fandom, boys, and I hope you're buckled in, 'cause it's gonna be a bumpy ride. ¡Diviértete!
Thanks for the sub and welcome!
Congrats on the 100k!
I just found this channel, and its like finding out your old favorite band got back together! Glad to see you guys again have been a fan for a very long time.
The commentary for this episode was extremely entertaining. New follower here :)
Welcome!
Fun Fact: The actress who plays Marlene (Merle Dandridge), the leader of the Fireflys, played Marlene in the video game too!
It’s really refreshing seeing people who aren’t familiar with the game reacting to this
It’s so nice to get to watch a reaction from another group of people who haven’t played the game. I know if it’s significance in pop culture and have seen the first hour or so of the game so this episode was amazing and I am so looking forward to learning more about this world and the characters
Can I just give a shout out to the sound engineer who got that pipe-wrench hit. That was some tangible crunchy sound.
I came in with Video Game adaption expectations and two episodes in this show is really schooling me. Ana Torv is tragically underemployed in TV. Also there were SOOOO many shortcuts they could have taken in the show given how the audience has largely already seen this story before. The producers have no fear of earning every little thing in the show. There's tons of scenes where I have to stop and realize that they could have done a virtual surround set for the scene but they built an apocalyptic ruin for the show just for the physicality.
The absolute savagery of Joel when he beats that man to death is just so awesome when you think about the bigger picture of it and the meaning behind it. The roar he lets out as he charges him down and just violently beats him to death with his bare hands. Goddamn.
Guys you recognize Ghost Rider, that scientist was Radcliffe also from AOS S4. These are not zombies, the scientists said the fungus keeps the host alive. Haven’t play the game, I will guess there’s a name for the infected.
You guys are my favorites! You’re always so positive, and you actually ENJOY things. The fact that y’all were so fully onboard with WILLOW warms my cold, shriveled heart. And THE LAST OF US is one of my very favorite things in the world, and I’m beyond thrilled that (a) the show appears to be absolutely NAILING it, and (b) that you guys seem to be loving it.
Thank you for being you.
Our boys are in the room together!! Let's goooo
I love the game, it's one of the best games I've ever experienced. So cool to find all these videos reacting to the show now, I love that more people get to experience the HEARTRIPPING story.
I'm really, really, really excited about your reactions specifically because you said at the start of this video that you have barely any TLOU knowledge. That's gonna be unique in terms of reactors not having played the game. This will be a really interesting reaction series for me to watch as someone who did play them and is watching the show.
Best thing about this being a video game adaptation is it’s so cool seeing reactions from both sides, those who have played the games and those who haven’t.
I knew the basics of the story, and I really liked it! Glad to see that you guys are reacting to the show!
Pedro Pascal deserves an Emmy or Oscar award for his portrayal in this series!!
We learned (I believe in this episode) that the fungus grew in grains which people ate and it made them infected. Joel, Tommy and Sarah almost eat grains multiple times. Pancakes (Joel forgot to get it at the store), birthday cake (Joel forgets to pick it up), neighbor offering biscuits before Joel and Sarah leave and Sarah being offered cookies at the neighbors house. Four times they almost got infected.
I love watching reactions to things I love. High key the best reactions I've seen. Coming back every week for sure
I need to have these fellas in a roundtable to talk about this show. There p.o.v is fascinating and the reactions kicked-ass!!!
In the past, I tried telling NON-gamers that this game is like a movie/TV show, only to have them still think I just like "shoot um up zombie games" (I felt corny). Now, hopefully, they understand I was playing a "TV series" and working these characters through each scene.
Congrats on 100K btw!
Thank you!
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this but the lady playing Marlene is the same one who voiced her in the game!
Definitely makes me want to play the game again it was so good. Crazy to see how parallel the scenes are
The way this episode had me jumping, shuddering, CRYING. Amazing. Can't wait for more!
Never played the game but really enjoyed the episode its definitely tugs on all the emotions. From that last shot it looks like the landscape as they travel will be amazing!
Minus a few deviations, this stayed really true to the video game. It shows how good the writing was for the video game.
I wish you guys had paid attention at the beginning of the episode when Joel and Ellie were walking and she asked “are Frank and Bill nice?” and he responds “Frank is”; this could have avoided a lot of unnecessary “I don’t trust him”s and “he’s going to murder him”s 😂
Love you guys ❤
Being waiting for this reaction all day long haven't even seen other ones waiting for you guys i haven't seen one of your reactions in a long time
Congrats on the 100k guys
And so cool to see you all together for this premiere.
Loved this game from Day1 on the PS3. Played it to death, plus Left Behind, Remastered, LOU2, Part 1 Remaster and Factions MP. Hope Factions 2 gets released at some point!!
The actress who played Sarah absolutely was fire in this episode. She is Nico Parker and is the daughter of actress Thandiwe Newton (MI2 and Chronicles of Riddick).
The song at the end is "Never Let Me Down Again" by Depeche Mode and is from 1987 - so yes the code is still Danger/Trouble.
Hector you mentioned getting the soundtrack.
The score from the games are amazing, beautiful, and haunting, they are readily available anywhere you can stream or purchase Musica.
Happy listening!
Thanks for reacting to this, you guys are in for a treat😁
I loved the plane crash scene omg
So happy you guys are watching!
Excellent reaction and amazing first episode. Looking forward to watching your reactions, especially since you haven't played the game. It's gonna be a ride!!
I don't usually watch reactions because most reactors dont bring their own genuine personality to the content or add anything new but you three are hilarious and its so fun to watch with 3 people who have never played the game. Can't wait for your next reaction!

@@HeroesReforged with Elora and aryk the problem with that dating thing is as Elora was adopted by sorsha and madmartigan that would make aryk and kit her siblings which is all sorts of creepy dating your own brother.
Its funny when people think that joel bailing tommy out was the first mission in the game 😂. That would have been nice lol. The game basically started when sarah wakes up. And yeah the truck scene was really accurate. Good video guys
Congrats on the 100k! Def deserved
My family doesn't understand how crazy this show is and it makes me sad that they make me feel stupid for sharing how awesome this series is!
hey ur not the only one lol as long as u know that theres a lot of people that enjoy the same things u enjoy then ur fine

I suck at games, don´t have the chance to have a PS4. But thanks to the people who upload walkthrough videos here on RUclips I´m becoming a fan of this story, and maybe someday I will be able to play it. And solely by this pilot, you can tell this show is gonna be insane, just as they predicted as I was following the production (cause I´m a papa Pedro slave) I loved your reaction and you just got a new subscriber!
The Last of Us the game is a masterpiece. It makes you feel sad & cry, happy, love and every emotion. PLAY THE GAME. The show is off to an amazing start.
The last of us premier has already shown us that it is the best game to live action adaptation and no other comes close, the actors, the environment, the cgi, to storytelling and steller directing and writing and how they kept aspects from the original game while changing certain parts really proves that they made this series with love and passion and i think that the last of us should be used as an example and expectation for future adaptations. I've already preached the greatness of this series to everyone i know and am counting down for the second episode. Perfectly executed series
That "Tommy help me!" Pedro gave... i dont know how he did that. Its like he went to another universe, had a child, lost the child, then came back and channeled that emotion into a single sentence.
That "Tommy help me" destroyed me. Pedro is a king.
The 100k of us!! Congratulations!!
You three guy's. I'm surprised not one of you mentioned or remembered that this is just an updated version of the 1956 film" Invasion of the Body Snatchers." Just with more blood. Cheers, Chris Perry.
I’m a diehard fan, my wife has known my obsession but legit loved this episode. For fans I HIGHLY recommend rewatching this, there are small hints from the director and game that explain the fungus jumped into flour, crops etc. if you rewatch the beginning and see exactly what they missed, forgot, avoided…..it’s just great story telling without telling you. Also 2 years post 9/11 and planes crashing imagine the panic and your immediate reaction to what is happening. So well done
The part where Joel was asking bout a bigger credit/pay was the sewer. So they planned that to escape from the QZ.
I love getting to see fresh eyes on this! Especially as someone who holds the game as something very beloved and close to heart I had some issues with the show, but seeing your perspective helps me. I'll also be curious when u finish the show and play the game, which u prefer. Because tbh, the game story has so much more additional info, and I do think it's better.
