There should be a horror movie about the ultimate Woofer, who's being chased down by a psychotic hunter who wants to kill him. But in the end, the pupper beats him and Rips his throat out.
Fun fact: the script was originally written for Susie and the other students to be 12-year-olds, but Dario's father (I think his father worked for the studio or something?) refused to use children in such gorey scenes, so they agreed on a cast of 20-year-olds instead, but Dario still wanted to give the vibe of a child experiencing this, hence the door knobs are unusually high and in some scenes, the students act almost childlike (such as that one dancer saying the thing about snakes and Sarah sticking her tongue at her).
Goodness, it is horrible to imagine just how more disturbing and morbid this movie could've been if they actually used child actors. Glad they did not.
my absolute favorite part of this movie is when sara is trying to climb through that little window and the killer is trying to open the latch, there’s no music. just her panting and the scraping sounds coming from the door. it feels so much more tense because that’s what she hears- she’s not listening to some sick electronica, that’s what the room sounds like. it’s so creepy to me and it genuinely made me feel more stressed than i would have if there was music
I also loved that scene because of how the killer used the latch to trick Sara into climbing through the window. It's quite unexpected which I really love.
I think this is the Blu ray remastered version, which is the only version avaible because the original one get destroyed. In fact, this Blu ray version is amazing and it required a long and hard work. The original version was more "grain 70s" look but the color are quite the same. I had an Italian VHS version and I can tell you for sure that the quality was low.
I think it was one of the last movies that used the color method that was in The Wizard of Oz. ...sorry not sure what it was called and I cannot really explain it to you but research it.
I think we were never meant to be shown the wires before she jumped? The shots showed they tried to hide them but some were sticking out at the bottom of the screen and it feels like someone went “screw it” and left it in. Just a random thought.
oh my god. For years, ive had this core memory of a girl going to a ballet academy and a girl falling through a skylight and ive never been able to place it.
I honestly think that the dubbing makes the movie even more terrifying. It makes all the dialogue in the bedroom between Susie and Sara even more unsettling. And I love that the blood is brightly colored and more like paint than actual blood, it fits the film so well.
Even though it’s not a remake if you saw the movie in 1977 the movie only looks bad cause tv’s back then had a lot of static if you see the movie now it will look so good
A lot of old movies only look bad now because of film degradation. Back when the film was new they could be almost as crisp as digital, even in the black & white days.
Yeah In the movie they say it is The Dance Academy of Freiburg, James seems to think it is literally called Tamz Akademie. The name of the academy is ‘The Dance Academy of Freiburg’
Technically, all dogs are good, their behaviour changes depending on their master. You’ll always see that bad dogs have been either educated to be aggressive or have been physically abused.
One detail/pattern I love is the way that there are always at least two actors framed in each scene (with a few exceptions), so when there's only one character it usually means they'll die next and it also creates an atmosphere of loneliness and isolation.

A popular 20th-century genre, Giallo (pronounced "dgallo," like "jello" with an A) is Italian for "yellow" (derived from the yellow covers of mystery shorts and novels that were popular in early 20th century Italy.) In Italy itself, Giallo just means anything mystery, thriller and/or horror; unrelated to a specific region or country. Gialli (plural) are generally a broad blend of different influences (American noir, Gothic fiction, German Krimi...) and genres (horror, mystery, erotica, thriller...), which results in films and novels that are unclassifiable by conventional standards. Usually, they are macabre, shocking, exploitative horror-mystery thrillers with a heavy emphasis on gore and atmosphere; supernatural elements are not as common though. Typical tropes include excessive gore, intoxicating camera work, surreal coloration, pronounced sound effects and ambient noises, premonitory-to-cacophonous music, attractive and highly sexualized leads, a masked and often gloved killer (generally dressed in black leather clothes), point of view shots, a visiting foreigner witnessing the atrocities, skeptical and unsympathetic authorities ,minimalistic and superficial narrative, and general excessiveness. Sadly, It's virtually uncited for its' influence on horror movies. As a wannabe Italian, it's the only horror subgenre I had known before discovering Dead Meat.
Batoche - It's 10 lines of text. That's too long for you to read? Yikes. I will agree that the majority of the comment was just summarizing what James had already said, but it's hardly too long to read... that's like 10-15 seconds, lmao
@@jimmyywutang832 Giallo was the Italian Slasher films before Slasher Films were a thing. Argento was a common director in a genre so a lot of them have surreal tones.
I saw the remake of Suspiria, and I really enjoyed it. It didn't do any cheap jump scares, instead creating genuine suspense until the actual horror scenes happened. The scene where the Susie dances and a dancer named Olga, in another room, starts doing the same movements but horribly exaggerated, making her bones snap and twist like a balloon animal, was one of the most horrifying scenes in the movie, and left a big impression on me. True, the movie isn't nearly as artistic with color as the original (other than the "Red Death" scene in the climax) but I rank it far above its contemporary horror movies. Suspiria 2018 genuinely scared me. Not many modern horror movies do that anymore, especially remakes.
Most horror remakes are actually pretty well done though, the only bad ones I can think of are My Bloody Valentine, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Child’s Play
I have no idea why people find bright red blood fake 😃 It's actual colour of blood coming from arteria! Because it's oxygenated. Only blood coming from veins is darker as it contains carbon dioxide hence is already toxic. Still, modern films get blood way too dark and stylized, to the point victims look like messed up with plum jam, not gore 😃

There came, from Italy, a vast amount of movies that really needs to be addressed among your kill count. Fulci, Deodati, Bava as well as Argento were avid producers of flesh ripping horror amid the 1980's. I would say that "the Hills Have Eyes" also are worthy contenders for the count. Both the original and the reboot. Take care.
This is late but great references. I do remember watching Deodato and Bava and only enjoyed Bava, my boyfriend who archives films for a hobby, has seen Fulci's films and enjoyed some of them. I might look into them one day.

This was the first horror movie I convinced my non-horror loving friend to watch because it wasn't scary. Needless to say, there were many questions at the end of that viewing. That being said, she's now letting me direct the horror movie marathon we'll have on Halloween. Thanks, Suspiria.
I absolutely LOVE the black and white apartment (Olga’s)! This is one of my very favourite horror movies! Even if it weren’t horror, with the cinematography and beautiful colours would be worth watching alone
I'd like to say a HUGE thank you, because of this channel, I've since discovered how amazing Dario Argento's work is! I never knew he was even more influential to the genre than Hitchcock, and his other movies, like Inferno, and Profundo Rosso would be PERFECT Kill Count companions to this look at his most well known work outside of Italy!
I really loved all the blue and red tones the movie had. Like the blue velvet walls and the red wallpapered window sills. It's a really visual movie and I've always loved that aspect.
Pretty sure he is, because in his upgrade vid he said next he’s doing sinister then he said “ you might wanna look above your heads for any buckets of blood”
"For instance there's madame blanc's creepy nephew who looks like he's about to go up the hill and fetch a pail of water" Holy shit james, thats so accurate and so harsh😂

I JUST watched this for the first time, and now I can finally go back and watch this kill count! There’s no better feeling than going back to an old kill count and finally getting to watch it without worrying about spoilers.
I think what makes Suspiria stand out from other horror/psychological movies is the cinematography. Like this movie is beautiful and terrifying at the same time due to all the colours
I just discovered this film.. which is surprising because I’m a veteran when it comes to horror film. I love this film the violence the colored lighting he uses. It’s very pleasing to the eye
I remember when this came out. It was terrifying. After a few not-so-scary horror movies that followed The Exorcist, this really had an effect. Especially when seeing it in one of those old movie houses that had seen better days. Thanks for your video.
I was binge watching this channel a couple months back, and I came across this video. I take his recommendations seriously, and when he said to watch it before watching the kill count, I listen. I am a poor college student so buying it legally is not always practical, but a couple days ago, we finally watched it in my horror Film studies, and now here I am.
Hey, youre probably not gonna see this, but I'm going through a tough time and I feel useless, but somehow your videos make me feel better and forget about everything going bad in my life. Okay bye now
Great work guys! As an Italian subscriber I couldn't be more glad to see one of our godfathers of horror appreciated so much. If I could recommend others films from Dario they are : Inferno - Tenebræ -Phenomena - The Bird With The Crystal Plumage - The Cat O'Nine Tails, and his masterpiece Deep Red. Also, search the work of Lucio Fulci and Mario and Lamberto Bava. Thank you for some of the best YT content!
This is the funniest retrospect of Suspiria I have seen and in such a loving manner too. Edit: my highschool senior year lock in was amazing and awesome.
I fucking LOVE Jessica Harper! She was amazing in Phantom of the Paradise! Definitely need to watch this one for myself before I watch this kill count!
Hell yeah, love this movie. So glad it made it to the kill count. It’s one of the first horror movies I ever saw because I have quite an obsession with the game Clock Tower for the SNES and this was apparently part of the inspiration for that game
I usually don't go out of my way to make sure I've seen the movie before watching the kill count but this is definitely a movie that I'm glad I took the advice and went in knowing pretty much nothing. That was an experience
Least favorite part is how the blood looks like red paint (okay let me say I know this was made on 1977, but I’ve still seen great effects and most dark blood)
Aw DOPE! I LOVE this movie! I was lucky enough to see it for the first time in a local art house theater. Thanks as always for the content, James. You da bes!

I would love to see the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Franchise on the Kill count Next 👍
he said that he will cover that soon but right now he can't because it would be very long
@@GradeAMasterLukens 8 movies
he said he was gonna do Evil Dead after he finishes Halloween
Doctor Dread and after a bunch of one-offs
Texas chainsaw is good until you get to the newer movies, i personally didnt like the newer ones. But id like to see james cover TCM.
This has a creepy and ominous vibe similar to the shining
@Clementia Anetta u a bot 2018 film part got me laughing so hard

"Suspiria"(1977) is a horror movie masterpiece! This is one of the best and most scariest movies of all time!
I’ve never heard of this gem of a movie I definitely have to watch it
peep more giallo afterwards, directors like Dario Argento, Mario Bava and Lucio Fulci are great ones to look out for.
Hey James and I just wanted to say I love your content and I think your amazing keep up the good work and the amazing entertainment
I really loved all the blue and red tones the movie had. Like the blue velvet walls and the red wallpapered window sills. It's a really visual movie and I've always loved that aspect.
This film is a total fever dream. Everything from the wild colors, heavy use of shadows, and the sound / music production.
I love how chill and kind this community is. We're all just good people who happen to like slasher flicks
"That was more slurry than a Mark Twain novel."
God, I love this man.
Omgggg, please do Carrie! (1976 version of course!)
as well as 2013 remake!
The 2013 one is better
I think the remake is horrible.
it (proply) took over a year but afther i think two kill counts he`ll cover it
Pretty sure he is, because in his upgrade vid he said next he’s doing sinister then he said “ you might wanna look above your heads for any buckets of blood”
Me, a year later waiting for the remakes kill count:

September 2021 update: still no remake kill count
I tried to watch this years ago but I was too young to appreciate it. I'd love to see this again. It looks beautiful
2 kill counts I'm in heaven
Thx for the likes
I'm confused did James re-upload the video I only see comments from 2 hours ago
another video?! stop! My adrenal glands can only produce so much adrenaline
Another video?!, My testicles can only produce so much sperm.

"For instance there's madame blanc's creepy nephew who looks like he's about to go up the hill and fetch a pail of water"
Holy shit james, thats so accurate and so harsh😂
You know it's gonna be a good episode when you can tell James is genuinely excited in the opening of the video
PLEASE DO THE NEW ONE!!! It is straight up DISTURBING.
"DISTURBING" you say? damn now i cant wait to watch it. (L A T E R) ok now I have watched it and...HU-BOYYAAA
I watch gore and horror all the time but dam the remake gave me nightmares.
@@caincorn i watched it during a horror marathon at the movies and to this day i can still remember the sound of the crunching bones in that one disturbing scene
@@scammer9348 Same here :( That scene is not leaving my head anytime soon.
Where can I watch it?
You said Daniel (blind dude) doesn’t have to see her smile
😂😂😂 I’m dying
Wait wait wait a minute, don't just glance over that little dance you did, we need to see a little more of that please. That was adorable. Don't think your little kill count made us forget.
This was such a strange film, the Director did a brilliant job of making it atmospheric and creepy.
I JUST watched this for the first time, and now I can finally go back and watch this kill count! There’s no better feeling than going back to an old kill count and finally getting to watch it without worrying about spoilers.
(7:33 - 7:41) I love how James's Voice is so nonchalant during this scene. It makes me laugh! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
“If you haven’t watched this movie I recommend you do before watching”
Me: No, I Don’t think I will.
I’m new to this channel and I’m already obsessed!😅💗
Enjoy it

You won't be disappointed
Same happened to me 👍

Great work guys! As an Italian subscriber I couldn't be more glad to see one of our godfathers of horror appreciated so much.
If I could recommend others films from Dario they are : Inferno - Tenebræ -Phenomena - The Bird With The Crystal Plumage - The Cat O'Nine Tails, and his masterpiece Deep Red.
Also, search the work of Lucio Fulci and Mario and Lamberto Bava.
Thank you for some of the best YT content!
“Zoom in on the maggoty meat crate” is a sentence I never thought I’d hear
This is the funniest retrospect of Suspiria I have seen and in such a loving manner too. Edit: my highschool senior year lock in was amazing and awesome.
Holy shit James you’re on a roll! The amount of videos you’ve put out this week is insane, nice work!
I fucking LOVE Jessica Harper! She was amazing in Phantom of the Paradise! Definitely need to watch this one for myself before I watch this kill count!

Thats honestly the first horror movie on this Channel I didnt know before.
You knew New Years Evil but not this?
Hell yeah, love this movie. So glad it made it to the kill count. It’s one of the first horror movies I ever saw because I have quite an obsession with the game Clock Tower for the SNES and this was apparently part of the inspiration for that game
Well, hell, the first death in Clock Tower, the first death here; there was some clear inspiration taken, and used to the fullest.
I usually don't go out of my way to make sure I've seen the movie before watching the kill count but this is definitely a movie that I'm glad I took the advice and went in knowing pretty much nothing. That was an experience
No homo but I love every fiber of your being James.
No homo but he is handsome
no hetero but I agree
You never go full no homo!
Gay
No hetero, I also agree
I watched this film as a kid and I don’t remember the plot at all, only the music and the film shots
Least favorite part is how the blood looks like red paint (okay let me say I know this was made on 1977, but I’ve still seen great effects and most dark blood)
The Undead Slayer yup
vins I’ve seen some pretty good effects even in 1977
That's kinda of a staple of the genre tho
I mean, its 1977
You can't blame them they tried they're best to make this a very scary horror films
Just listened to the score... absolutely beautiful. So unique and mesmerizing. I can’t quite describe it.
Aw DOPE! I LOVE this movie! I was lucky enough to see it for the first time in a local art house theater. Thanks as always for the content, James. You da bes!
I love the color of the blood, I feel like the brightness really goes well with the entire tone of the movie.
Yo James do Texas Chainsaw Massacre for a kill count
Fun fact about that movie; Leatherface was actually very heavily based off the serial killer Ed Gein, who made furniture out of skin.
I'm surprised you are not asking for a T.O.P Elimination count
P.S. I like anime
