My most common disk problem occurs because I experiment a lot with various Linux installs and different Windows installs. I swap SSD drives a LOT between several different computers. I often run into not being able to delete a locked partition to install a different OS on it or clear the disk for storage. I use diskpart. List and select drive, then partition that you want to delete, then force delete the partition. I'm sure there's a way to do this in Linux, but I already was used to diskparted.

Good video Brian I had forgotten all about this chkdsk command which I have used a few times in the past when I was using machines or doing some simple fixes for for friends on machines with spinners in particular. haven't used it much since SSD became the norm for me at least but I must remember this command as I guess I can check the 1TB spinner I have as my D: drive in this machine. Embarrassingly I never knew what Win PE was and I have picked quite a few great tips from this video mate - thanks!!

8:55 Sometimes the errors or "bad sectors" do get fixed with a re install of windows. I had errors and a bad sector error and basically I was sure I had hardware issues. After my pc would no longer boot one day, i did the windows re install from windows media creation tool and now the things works fine. No errors ever. It still does say its at 66% health but it says good health. I use my other drive now for all that music I had on the first drive. Now i get errors on my 2nd drive, but only when moving music around and copying to mp3 players. Super wierd. Maybe it gets tired fast? SSD sata. Yea probably. freakin lazy drive.

Thank you for the video. I would like to ask, how to be able detecting the internal hdd or hdds with winpe if the storage in bios is configured in raid and not ahci or ide mode? I had a pc like that and in the winpe environment the internal hard disk was undetectable. Also what to do if a computer with the storage in raid mode doesn’t boot, how to do the repair process or even recover the data before formatting?

Can you explain why Windows is constantly "checking" if the hard drive is still there? Every few minutes a hdd that is asleep will spin up, which is not only annoying, but also bad for the hdd. Not to mention that if you're doing something else, some Window processes can't just do it while hdd spins up in the background, they hang up for a second. It is SUPER frustrating. It made me disconnect all my hdds and only physically connect them when I use them.
Surely it's not meant to be like this. A hdd should only be woken up IF AND ONLY IF I - THE USER do something that needs to access the hdd. There is absolutely no reason to do all those checks.

So my issue is it doesn’t pick up any errors but when I restart my computer it says ‘imminent failure’ although I have access to my files and everything I am worried I might have to update and restart and it won’t be able to access my files. Do you have any advice for me?

When I error check my drive it says I need to repair it, I click restart and repair now, it restarts but nothing changes it does not repair it as when I error check again it's showing me the repair drive option again

I have a external WD drive that's not allowing me to access it, it was working the day before but now I cant access it. chkdsk doesn't work, the cursor just sits there flashing.Disk is not being picked up using diskpart.
I can see the drive in explorer if I do a refresh but its not accessible.I can see the drive in device manager but it does,nt show up in diisk management.
I did a scannow to fix the system files that may be corrupted but that didn't work. Plugged it into another computer, the drive shows up but is still inaccessible. What other option can I try,to repair the file system, I suspect that,s the problem. In addition when I right click on the drive to try to get to the properties of the drive it just sits there and I cant access that either.
