I think Skyline is an example of expectations vs reality. People who grew up with Skyline love it and hype it up so people being introduced to it have high expectations, often to be let down

You don’t put cinnamon and allspice in chili. To me it’s always seems like Mediterranean meat sauce. But if you’ve had a couple of beers it’s OK. The worst part is the way they do the beans. They need to go to New Orleans to figure that one out.

i found a recipe online and made it in a slow cooker if you accept the fact that it's NOT a traditional chili, it's 100% fine. i actually really like the spice blend (it's more of a Balkan pasta sauce)
I grew up and still live in Cincy, eaten Goldstar and Skyline more times than I can count. The chili is gross. You need to eat the cheese coneys and chili cheese fries. That's why people go to Sykline/Goldstar

First tried it at the mall in Lexington, Ky. I love the soupy meat sauce. No beans, no onions. My mom made it at home much better than the restaurant, but you can't replicate the cheese. As stated the secret ingredient is cinnamon. 👍
If you want Quality cincinnati restaurant food, you go to Montgomery Inn or Jeff Ruby's steak house. If you want the true taste of Cincinnati, you eat Gold Star/ Skyline.
Nah boomer. Jeff ruby's is over priced pre cut steaks. Trottas has an actual butcher. Eli's is way better bbq. Sotto/Boca is by far the best food in the city.
Dan’s view encapsulates rational Cincinnatian’s opinion of Skyline. We know it’s not for everyone. We know it’s not the best. But have you tried it? That’s all I ever ask people visiting. Personally, if I ever eat it I get the veggie chili.

I remember how excited I was when I went to my old company's headquarters in Cincinnati... Pulled up to Skyline.... And it was absolute dog shit. Never again.
Skyline chili is incredibly over rated, the chili itself is bland until you doctor it up with hot sauce, etc. I've tried it enough to determine that I'm not a fan. I can appreciate that it's a regional favorite, but it ends there for me.
Graeter's Ice Cream. Black raspberry chocolate chip ice cream. Enough said. Expensive yet one of the best you ever had. A Cincy favorite.

Our local Skyline Chili in West Chester Ohio sponsored my little league team for a few years. I love it as much now as I did then.

Its not even close to the same recipe they use in the actual restaurant. If you try Skyline or Goldstar, it has to be at the restaurant.

Actually real chili doesn't have beans in it. Skyline and Goldstar is more of a meat sauce though. One has Cinnamon added the other has coca powder
