He was loved and his employers put on the biggest funeral I've ever seen, 500 plus people there. He looked and spoke and acted a lot like Anthony. He joked here about sliding into a 3 day depression. Clearly it’s a joke. But I’m familiar enough from hearing him speak elsewhere to know that he has joked about being depressed before. We all know of his early struggles with addiction and alcohol. From struggling with depression myself I know that those who like to joke about it are usually the ones who know what it’s like from personal experience. RIP my friend.

    The first time we went to Ireland back in the 90s, we came across a Fifties-themed American diner in Dublin, so we thought it’d be funny to grab lunch there and see what Happy Days nostalgia looked like thru an Irish lens. The meal was fine: serviceable burgers, shakes, fries.
    About a year later we’re back home in Boston, and we see a sign at a local mall that that diner would be opening a location soon over here. And that’s how we discovered that this Johnny Rockets place was, in fact, a chain from the West Coast. 😹

I know he was talking about food, but for some reason, I feel like there was something more to that. And when he talked about 3 day spiral of misery and depression from that one experience, I could tell he was the kind of person who was tormented by some serious demons.

I've known people with clinical depression and it just manifests differently for them. Sure there are days where I am quite stressed and feeling down/depressed, but the difference I've noticed is this serious "spiraling" which tends to manifest in people like Anthony.

    • @douglassun8456
      @douglassun8456 7 месяцев назад

      Definitely, it's a medical condition and so hard to manage. By its nature, it works against the hope and willpower that you need to cope with any serious medical condition. I have a friend with depression, and when I saw through his Facebook feed that he had taken up Pokemon Go, I chuckled - but then I realized that it was probably a moderately helpful, low-impact way of addressing his condition. If nothing else, it got him out of the house, exercising and getting some fresh air, and it kept his mind occupied. So 👍to him obsessing over Pokemon Go.

    It seems that many people in the comments section are sharing similar stories of the most depressing meal they've ever had. Here is mine. In 2017 I had a major mental health crisis and fell into a severe bout of depression and anxiety. I apart from using the bathroom, I literally didn't leave my room/bed most days. Anyway I became so intolerable that on October that year I got into a massive, depression fuelled fight with my father (who thinks depression isn't real and that it's just laziness) and he threw me onto the streets. For the first 3 days after being made homeless I was in a state of shock and it didn't quite sink in. Then it sank in and hit me like a ton of bricks. The night my situation fully sank in was on a dark, cold autumn evening and I was aimlessly wandering the streets.
    I decided to eat in KFC. I sat there under those harsh artificial lights in a filthy, trash-infested KFC with a three-piece meal made for me by uncaring, teenaged staff who were more concerned with talking and messing around then doing their jobs. I just sat there eating lukewarm, greasy and soggy chicken with cold, limp fries fully coming to terms with the fact that I was homeless. My eyes welled up with tears as I was eating but I forced myself to stop because a teenaged member of staff saw me and made a pathetic attempt at hiding his laughter. That whole evening made me feel REAL GOOD (not). I spend the next couple of months sofa-surfing.
    I am in a much better & more stable situation now. Even though I still suffer from depression, it is nowhere near as bad as it was during those times. My heart goes out to anyone that suffers from depression, especially if they have family like mine who don't believe depression is real or how serious & debilitating it is. All you have to do is keep moving forward no matter what. Even if it's a tiny bit every now and then keep moving forward and try to reach out for help from someone/somewhere (there are many websites, phone-lines and organisations that'll offer help for free). Just keep moving forward and I promise you that things will eventually get better to the point where you can function and cope. If I can do it then anyone can. Just believe in yourself no matter how hard or pointless that may seem and keep moving forward. I love all of you. You matter to this world ❤

      5 guys is one of those places people act like assembling a burger is a miraculous feat and are willing to overpay for it. I will just make my own and save my 10 bucks.

      Sadly add suffering from depression, addiction to drugs and booze. It didn't balance not even having a young daughter. He was brilliant and taught us much. R.I.P.

    This video makes me miss how he would open his show. Explaining perfectly what we’re about to see with vocabulary that I’ve never heard before but you kinda knew what he was saying. Everything flowed perfectly together with his smooth voice. Man do I miss hearing his voice.

    My most depressing meal was after I left an abusive relationship where she cheated on me. I had just purchased a house but I had nothing in it. I had two beers and leftover twizzlers before falling asleep on an inflatable mattress.
    My life is so much better now haha. A lot can change in a year or two. Stay strong guys.
