- Hi RUclips,
As I explained in the video, this is a medley I wanted to do for a while. It exemplifies the fact that multiple pop songs share very similar (or in this case exactly the same) chord progressions. I zoomed in on my left hand to emphasize the point. In this video, the chord progression is vi-IV-I-V, or in the key of C, A minor, F major, C major, and G major. This is only a sampling of the many songs that use this very common progression.
In order, the songs are:
Avicci -- wake me up
Bruno Mars -- Grenade
Kelly Clarkson -- Behind these hazel eyes
Beyonce -- If I were a boy
Avril Lavigne -- Complicated
Celine Dion -- A new day has come
Joan Osborne -- What if god was one of us
Eagle Eye Cherry -- Save tonight
Sarah McLachlan -- Building a mystery
Toto -- Africa
Heart -- Alone Видеоклипы
I'm so happy that you included A New Day Has Come and Building a Mystery. Those are two of my favorite songs.
thank you so much for explaining this! I play by ear, too and I taught myself how to play the piano. Now I know what to say to people when they ask me how I do it.
I'm a big Elton John fan here. I've heard Elton himself stated in a couple interviews long ago that most of his music were just chord progressions as you've stated here.
It's amazing how so many songs can be created out of the same chord progression. I have noticed though that there are many songs that sounded the same but just couldn't quit point it out. Now I know why! Thanks!
Creo que "Videos Tutoriales" como este es la mejor forma de compartir tu talento al mundo. Gracias.

That piano sounds great. Cool video
Michael, you truly understand music so well, and you communicate that so well also. Would love to see you perform live someday, somehow, some way, as I am such a fan. May never be possible, but that said, all things are possible with God, and you definitely have a God-given talent, my friend. All the best 2 U always!!
Reminded me of that video of Axis of Awesome where they play so many songs with just the same 4 chords.

Talent
Great! I noticed that a lot of songs have the same chords or one basic chord it goes back to and right now I'm working on a Disney medley in that way. You are an extraordinary pianist. I hope one day I can be as talented as you are! Also--it would be cool to have more videos of you talking. It's nice to see a personality (:
your piano is sooo beautiful
Many thanks for that! Passed on to daughter!
Great job. Axis of Awesome did a similar video a while back. Love the idea.
I have been watching you for sometime. You are awesome. I wish so badly to be able to play the piano. Please keep posting!
Saw a piano cover of Radioactive.
Would love to see you play that. Thanks.
I love... your white piano.
Merry Christmas! Thanks for an entertaining and educational video!
Also, wow, your hands are so awesomely big. I wish I could stretch a 10th, but alas, an octave is my limit...
P.S. You are an inspiration to this a newly graduated med student - I am hoping I can continue playing piano even when working insanely too!
Eu amei!! I Love!!!
Something else I noticed, you haven't aged much over the last 7 years but maybe only a couple years! I don't think you're still in your early 20's but you still look it! :)
Man i wish i had that piano lol.. sounds amazing.
Please do a Mary Poppins medley!!
Hi again, may I use your piano pieces in my house music tracks. Love you forever if you let me. I must stress I will not use for profit purposes and happy to send you a link and also link to your videos for each one I use. Kindest regards, your are amazing!
I bet this guy can do a mad Owen Wilson impersonation,
Hahaha Nice
can you produce a version of this with even more pleasant moves? I mean a version which is not limited for learning purposes. ;) It would be gorgeous! :)
Do you sometimes play backings to a vocalist? and if you do so, are you supporting them with the melody with the right hand or are you just playing the chords with a nice rhythm? would be nice to hear, greetings from germany
I don't really do this, but if I did, I suppose I would really just play the chords probably
Okay thanks alot! :)
Avicii...
:)
Had Sam Smith's "Stay with Me" come out by the time this was posted?
I was wondering whether you have already been confused with "Ben Stiller"? :) There is definity an affinity :) Don't mean any harm by saying that. Great music anyway.
priceless
