I own 330i. Magical car. I´ve driven newer 3-series models and maybe I´m just sentimental but every time I´ve sat in my own car afterwards, it just feels so much different - the car is like built around the driver and the sound from that naturally aspirated engine... And about the design - Joji Nagashima designed E39 and Z3 - both legendary BMW-s. I`m more than sure that E90`s time will come. Such an elegant car.

I ran a manual 2005 E91 320d M Sport for 9 years. Took it to 238k miles with very few issues but I did service it every 10k miles. Best car I've owned and really miss it. It would still be going now if I hadn't bumped it but I had some great A/Broad drives in it along the way. Running a 17 plate Merc B Class at the mo and it feels dead at the wheel compared to the BMW despite it being more modern with better tech but it just doesn't make you grin or look forward to the drive like the BMW did.

    • @totuudentorvi7781

Feeling dead at the wheel is because of the more modern tech. Electric power steering ruined the steering of 99% of cars out there. The E90 was the last 3-series that was good to drive - because it still had proper steering.

    E6x, E9x were the best BMW's tbh.
    I've had 26 since 1997, everything from the E30 thru to the L12. I've had 4x E36's, 4x E46's, 3x E39's including the M5, 4x E60's including the M5, 1x E61, 2x E63 including the M6, 1x E53, 2x E70, 2x E90, 1x L12, 1x F33 so I think I've got a fair amount of experience with them.
I know there's the hardcore "anoraks" who prefer the "conservative" look and they will argue these were better built but I wholeheartedly disagree. I think BMW quality slumped around the era of the E39 and E46, mainly in the body corrosion protection and interior components. The E30 was a solid car but with dodgy handling. The E36 was I think, the best 3er before the E90 came and wiped the floor with it. The E46 was arguably the better looking 3 but they are rotboxes. I did briefly own an E34 525tds and that was better in the bodywork department than the E39, but the E39 was a better looking car. The E60 was controversial, and was a BMW that I swore I would never buy, but they grew on me very quickly, and although the design was controversial at the time, it now looks comtemporary and still looks as modern as the modern BMW's of today, whereas the E39's are looking prehistoric now.
Everything from the E53 x5 thru E6x, E7x and E9x, BMW seem to have perfected the anti-corrosion process. Most of the E6x, E7x and E9x cars I've ever purchased have all been over 10 years old, some nearer 20 years old and still are rust free, which is more than what could be said for the F33 4 series as I have noticed that they rust.
2003-2007 Bangle era was the best from BMW. They were still using venerable engines like the M54 and M57, before they ruined their reputation with long service intervals and rear mounted chains on the N47 and N57 diesels which replaced the M47 / M57 starting from around 2007.

The indicator is useful as if you just need to let someone behind know you're moving, like overtaking or moving into inside lane (etc) you can use the short 3 blink one and it stops after and you don't need to worry about it. If you're turning a corner etc you use the longer one, and it does turn itself off. There are occasions when it doesn't reset but this is the same in all cars.

I’ve got a 14 year old E90 320d “M sport” with 180,000 miles on the clock. Every time I think I’m going to move on from it, after every service or MOT, I always find myself happy that I haven’t and that I just keep it going. Having driven more recent models as hire cars, I feel like this was a high point for the marque, a period when driver engagement and technological complication were still in balance with each other. Newer BMW cars, for all their electronic interfaces, ironically make me feel very disconnected from what it is that I’m actually doing, which is not selecting a tune from iTunes, or gazing at a tablet-like satnav screen, but driving a car. And funny old thing, I want to feel like I’m driving a car.

Hi JJ. Yeah, I'm with the motoring press on this and have never been a fan of the design, great car that it undoubtedly is. It also obviously suffers from the BMW way of listing everything you'd possibly want as an optional and probably costly extra.
Having said all that, these 3 series always seemed larger and more spacious than you imagined they'd be so big tick for that and if someone offered me one at the right price, of course I'd be delighted to drive one.

I have a 2005 325i and I've been driving it for 3 years now. It's such a nicely built, solid car. Absolutely fun to drive on twisty country roads here in New Zealand. And because it's an enthusiast's car, there's tonnes of DIY videos to fix almost anything. I've replaced my Oil filter housing gasket and oil cooler gasket myself, and a rear window regulator as well, without any prior car maintenance experience. I got it with 104,000kms on it and had the water pump and thermostat replaced right away by a shop. About 6 months ago the original engine died and so I went through the very expensive option of replacing the engine with a low km good condition 2nd hand engine. In many ways economically it didn’t really make sense to this but I did regardless as I enjoy the car, and couldn’t stand the idea of sending it to the wreckers. Sadly the paintwork on the roof, bonnet and boot are all starting to fail and so that too will be a costly repair. I know not worth doing from a financial perspective but when I can afford it, I will get it sorted out. Overall, it’s been a good experience with the car and I must say when out on the open road it’s a real pleasure to drive.

No iDrive which I'm fine with and no cup holders which can be a pain sometimes. I do have nets at the back of my sport seats with inflatable cushioning for the sides and the back.
Since my brother owned it and I afterwards it's always been serviced decent, he however did some mods that I've turned back stock again. It's on Bilstein B4 and the whole underside has been renewed since 10.000km ago. It did 232km/h this summer on the German highway even though it's stock. I felt it could do a tiny little bit more but traffic came ahead, normally it's limited to 223km/h.
270.000k right now and there's nothing wrong with it, my garage says it can easily go for another 10 15 years.

    The way BMW blinkers work:
    1. Push lever all the way up/down for turn canceled blinker (it stays on until you turn the wheel to a degree)
    2. Push lever halfway up/down for temporary blinker (lane change, blinks a few times then stops)
    3. Push lever halfway towards the ACTIVE turning indicator to cancel the blinker
😂 It's literally the reason BMW drivers have a reputation of not using their blinkers. Because most don't understand the full functionality of these BMW blinkers which is actually really nice. I had e90 so troublesome. BMW are high maintenance. Out of motorplan is a nightmare. Almost everytime you drive some warning light comes on periodically and the costly repairs that follow

Own a ‘11 320d LCI from new. The car is still like new, no issues over 80k kms even the interior still have a new leather smell when I open the door.
The 380nm keeps me happy, even after all these years owning it. Will pass it on to my son when it’s time.😂
