  • The Dalek Time Strategist is the successor to the Dalek Time Controller, serving as the temporal advisor to the Dalek Emperor and de facto second-in-command of the Dalek Empire for much of the Time War. This Dalek had multiple conflicts with the Eighth Doctor and the War Doctor, and also fought against Rassilon, the General, Bliss, Tamasan, Ollistra, and Sontaran General Fesk. The stories that this Dalek appear in include the Eighth Doctor: Time War series, the War Doctor Begins series, and the War Doctor box sets.

The Time Strategist’s voice is hands down the coolest Dalek voice in the whole franchise. It’s cold and calculated, never raising its voice or being gung-ho like the regular Daleks. It’s a Dalek that knows exactly what it’s doing 100% of the time

What I'd like to see perhaps when the 9th Doctor Boxsets start wrapping up, is the return of the Time Strategist to face up against the Doctor on his own, that is the only way I think you will ever be able to give 9 another Dalek story given how powerful and forward thinking the Strategist was. I wouldn't be surprised if he came to the same conclusion as the Cult of Skaro and fled the time war once he realised just how unwinnable it was.

    • @dalekbumps

There is one way to bring back the Time Strategist in the Ninth Doctor audios without revealing to the Doctor that more Daleks had survived pre-'Dalek'. A future Time War story could depict events in which the Time Strategist follows in his predecessor's footsteps and metamorphoses into something that isn't a Dalek, such as a psychic entity or something more powerful. It would be crucial that the Doctor himself not be present in that story, as this entity that the Time Strategist changed into could appear in a Ninth Doctor audio and do battle with the Doctor once again without him knowing it was once a Dalek

the Time Strategist feels truer to the fascistic nature of the Daleks than the Controller, in many ways, because of how it never diverts or rebels from the Dalek Empire entirely and because it stays around, it shows the insecure and often treacherous inner workings of the Empire itself. the disputes it has with the Red Fleet Commander, and repurposing the plans it had as entirely the Strategist's own, imitates how much infighting there was in actual fascist governments in history so some members of it could elevate themselves on the hierarchy. the Time Strategist has slightly more of an allegorical edge over the Controller, who veers moreso on being an anarchical character itself

Bruh it's literally pulling Davros and Nyder style manipulation.
There was a time where Davros betrayed a scientist who originally purposed the concept of Daleks, sending her off to be hanged.

    • @phinnyouchoobs
      @phinnyouchoobs 6 месяцев назад +3

exactly! that's with Shan in the audio drama Davros, and the idea of fascist insecurity and governmental fallibility is prevalent in a ton of Dalek stories even just on TV. the civil war of the classic series focuses on the genetic purity angle, but it uses that as a lens to show how easily the Daleks' empire could crumble apart. similar things also happen in stories like the Daleks in Manhattan two-parter, and there are semblances of the idea being made more literal in Journey's End because the Daleks are ultimately defeated by machinery in the deepest recesses of their headquarters (where funnily enough, Davros, the creator of the Daleks and their governmental ideologies is) and as soon as it is triggered, the three heads of the fleet shown in that episode turn on one another, only prevented from backstabbing each other because of the Children of Time being there

For me the time strategist is the best dalek character created. He is the doctors equal in dalek form. I think it's criminal he hasn't appeared on screen or other media as he is exactly what the daleks on the TV. His casing would only require minor changes to the red supreme to make him. I also think his earlier deeper synth voice was far more creepy and unsettling compared to the daldk casn voice he got in later episodes. Should character options do another line of big finish figures I would hope the TS would get a figure.
Also what story is from where he and the red dalek commander have a tiff?

Another well made video, I’ve not managed to get through the big finish audios yet but these videos certainly help build up the big picture of each character and their involvement in the timeline.
You can see why the Timelords liked to limit the time travel of other beings and protect the web of time, because the fracturing of the timelines and crossovers with other timelines starts to become a huge convoluted mess where nobody knows what’s happening and where and when with events happening then unhappening as they’re undone because they don’t work out as intended.
Life is simpler when you have one universe with what is, rather than a multiverse of meanwhiles and never were’s crossing over causing chaos.
It makes the time controller and strategist very dangerous characters and you can see how it makes the time war so devastating not only to Daleks and Timelords but to the lesser species who watch the universes burn in their madness.
    Well made ❤❤

Thanks! I'd definitely recommend the Big Finish audios, lots of the early ones are quite cheap nowadays and they sometimes go on sale, so it's easy to pick up half a dozen or so and listen through them to see if you enjoy them. Spare Parts is a great first audio to try, it's a Fifth Doctor and Nyssa story about the origin of the Cybermen on Mondas (post-Adric's death)
In terms of the Daleks, there's a lot of Sixth and Eighth Doctor audios with great Dalek appearances - Jubilee, the Juggernauts, Patient Zero, Blood of the Daleks, etc. The Eighth Doctor also has three entire series on audio - his early stuff with Charley, the Eighth Doctor Adventures which also includes Dark Eyes, Doom Coalition, Ravenous and Stranded, and then also his Time War stuff leading up to the Time War. There's some fantastic audios in that series

I'm gonna do my best to 3D Print my own Dalek Time Strategist. I already made a Time Controller, but I really love the design of the casing of the Strategist. I wouldn't be surprised if he too survived the Time War, since it wouldn't take away from the Cult of Skaro's foresight. They knew what was going down, so they hid from the universe until the fighting ceased. It wouldn't stretch the imagination to think that the Strategist could do the same.

I love the time strategist mainly because like the time controller he is extremely interesting and I love his unique very deep voice (when big finish remembers that it’s deep). I think the main difference is between them in terms of character is that the time strategist was genetically Loyal to the supreme dalek who probably became the emperor yet he gains ideas of becoming the emperor in that war doctor box set which I gave me the theory that because the time strategist/controller are linked to the time vortex it allowed them to expand there mind and gave them free will. I also think that in those final days of the time war the time strategist realised that the war was unwinable and the only out come was likely destruction as the war became hell and realised the only way to win was to escape as the emperor would not be persuaded to give up and if he suggested the idea he would be destroyed so I think he escaped using something like a void ship and could always return one day

Fan theory: While the War Doctor's Timeline is fairly linear, from War Doctor Begins to War Doctor Quadrilogy, the Time Strategist's timeline is much more screwy, in-universe at least. In reality, the Time Strategist's Timeline is parallel to its story release dates. The latest boxset of the War Doctor Begins, from the Time Strategist's perspective, is long after the War Doctor Quadrilogy.
A fitting end to such a powerful character in the Dalek Empire.

So one really interesting piece of information not in this video, I'm guessing coz you haven't heard the final war doctor begins yet but *spoiler warning* the strategist becoming more rebellious leads to the emperor punishing him by slaving itself to the time strategist, restricting the strategists free will and therefore watching over everything it did. I like to think this explains its change in voice. It starts off deep, gets higher as it becomes more rebellious in the war doctor begins era, then once the emperor takes control of it it becomes low and perhaps more subdued sounding as in the original war doctor boxsets.

The dalek time strategist is like Doctor Who's admiral thrawn. Cool in cross medium extended universe stories that are allowed to do whatever they want, but would probably fall short when introduced to the main series. I don't see it working on screen simply because I don't think they would be able to do justice to the concept of time omnipresence in a 50-100 minute tv program where the good guys have to win in the end

I've been thinking about this actually, I want to make a full video on it eventually - it is possible that the Time Controller and the Time Strategist form a sort of 'Ouroboros' situation where one creates the other, who then creates the other, who then creates the other in a paradox of sorts. The Time Controller is created by the New Dalek Paradigm in the far future based off the Time Strategist, the Time Controller then goes back in time and creates the Dalek who will go on to become the Time Strategist, who is then lost in the Time War and the records of its exact origin are lost to the Paradigm, who go on to create the Time Controller...
