This is us. This is Canada. The Hip are us. Gord was a poet, a patriot and a prophet. Never forgotten, He lives through this beautiful music.
I LOVE The Hip. But, they represent urban Ontario, not the rest of Canada. I absolutely love this band, but they are just representative of very urban Ontario (hence all the guilt in the lyrics about all the things that are not in very urban Ontario....) Just my 2 cents....

As much as everyone hates on CBC these days, they did a solid airing this for us. I don't care how much they made off of it. It truly did my soul good to be able to watch this in solidarity with my fellow Canadians across the country. For that I will forever be thankful.
I don't think they made anything off it. They ran it with no ads, during prime time.
@@kmacgregor6361 I would hope that, if they made anything from it, there was a deal with the band to donate a considerable amount to charity (glioblastoma research and indigenous causes, most likely).
thankfully we have the CBC if CTV and Global did this it would be full of commercials and they would have charged admission to the 11 million of us who watched free at parks across the country. CBC TV and Radio provide great exposure for Canadian talent And they still use Canadian foreign corespondants not feeding off the US news networks
They didn't make anything from it, in fact they lost because they paid to be playing the Olympics. They did an absolute solid and did a solid by airing this. Only The Hip could stop the Olympics and pause the busyness of a country to bring people across the entire country together 💜
The CBC gave up on Canadian values after this.

Honestly I disagree, the cancer that he had is very intense.. I lost two people very close to me to the same cancer that Gord had.. and when I think about how much they suffered, emotionally and physically, it really isn’t a blessing .
I grew up in Ohio. The northern and easternmost town. That sharp point in the upper right hand corner.

I was across the Lake from London. And through London's FM96 I first heard the Hip in 1989 or 1990. It was MAGIC. It was a Twofer Tuesday. I was hooked.
I have spread the Hip as far as I could in the States. I have shared Gordie and the boys with everyone I could, whether they wanted to listen or not.
It's been nearly four years. I'm sitting in my car bawling. Literally crying SO hard right now.
I remember a reddit thread I saw once. It was something like "I'm Canadian but I don't like..." Someone said The Hip. Even that guy was singing along on this night.
I miss you, Gordie. For every kid in the US who lived in a "bordertown", you were OUR treasure, too.
Big hugs for you today. Even if you don't read this now,anytime soon or ever...the hip united us and that's why I send you a hug today. Take care. Miss you Gordie and The Tragically Hip.

I’m sitting here crying after watching this too… loved the hip since I first heard New Orleans is sinking in about 1990 in Starkville, MS.

I'll never forget this night. In the little northern mining town of Timmins, hundreds of people crowded into a public park by the river where a big inflatable screen was streaming this concert. It was pouring rain and there wasn't enough shelter for everyone, but we never stopped dancing or singing along. Every now and then the connection would go bust because of the storm and we'd just wait together huddled around the screen in anticipation. The north loved Gord.
I remember it like it was yesterday,for one night the entire country stopped .

You Canadians should be so proud to had a band like The Hip. I had the luck to see them twice in Belgium and they were fantastic. The will be still one of my favourite bands. Many greetings from Belgium to all the fans of The Hip!
Having seen them 21 times. I watched this show, obviously burst into tears. Often wondered why they closed with ABAC. Then it made sense. The last lyrics he ever sang was “disappointing you is getting me down” he was saying sorry to all of us. The Hip is Canada. He was all of us. This country will never forget this night, but I’ll never forget the man and what he meant to me.

Wow, they were absolutely nothing like anything else in that they pretty much made everyone relate in some way and made you feel good and comfortable in any situation hearing them and everyone could feel a vibe which stayed inside our hearts forever! RIP GORDON DOWNIE

Not just the greatest band to ever come out of Canada, but one of the greatest bands of any country EVER.

This band means the world to me...I am not from Canada, but i have seen at first hand what this band means to Canadians..... There were ALWAYS Canadians at every TTH concert i saw in the Netherlands.... I fear the day Gordon Downie will die, we will loose one of the great poets of our time....This video tears me up, makes me feel good, makes me want to visit Canada and hug you all.....

Amazing. The reach they have, the tears unite us. I remember watching this live. It was a difficult time for me, my family. Watching it now brings it all back, both the good and the hard. What an amazing time it was, as a country, to say goodbye to one our own. He is missed.

That guy fully understood that significance of the moment...I may have watched that from my living room, but you could feel the collective, imminent loss our country was to feel
It's probably the biggest celebration of life event any country has ever had for a person. A rare event that could reduce the most stoic of men to tears.

My dad grew up with gord and have been friends since childhood he was a great guy no act what so all what u see is who he truly was would give his shirt of his back if someone needed. I have great memories of going to party's at his place or ours. And going out camping and fishing in the summer we went to the last concert after the show he came back into his dressing room and basically collapsed onto the couch from exhaustion and he gave me one of his mics he used for the tour. And gave my dad one of the guitars from the tour and singed the back and wrote a very heart felt note to my dad.

I was doing all three that night. It was like saying goodbye to an old friend you knew you were never going to see again.
I was playing a weekend of shows in Ocean City, Maryland and booked it out of there to get to the hotel to start watching this immediately. Watched what I could and was in tears almost the whole time. I hear The Hip on a daily basis - they're on my playlist here at work, so they come up a lot - and Gord is never far from my mind. Five years gone and he still blazes bright. What a legacy to leave behind.

I'm crying watching this - it tells you something when a band can move people so much as Gord Downie and his band. I'm 58 and been a Hip fan for over 25 years. Great lyrics, great music, great singer, no other can compare. Thank you for everything guys. Courage Gord, keep the faith....
After hearing the last two songs, long time running in the credits, I tried to get up, then just sat down and cried.
I am an American living in the Cayman Islands. I have been here for thirty years. Along the way I have met and become friends with scores of Canadians.Good people! One of my best friends is a Canadian from Niagara Falls. On one of his mother's trips to the island I asked her to bring me the one of the Tragically Hip's greatest hits cds. I had already been a fan having seen them when they played a concert in the Caymans. That's right, the Hip played in the Cayman Islands.I am so glad that she brought me the cd Yer Favourites. I am sure you all know it is 37 of the Hip's best. I will forever cherish it! I just want to say, as an American whose country has lost numerous musical icons, including Tom Petty just a short time ago, (may he rock on in heaven), that I have never experienced the love and admiration for any of our musicians the way that Canada loves the Tragically Hip. Gord Downie and the boys have become a national treasure! You have lost one of the best and I grieve with you. Let's make sure their work is not lost on future generations. They were truly ahead by a century!!!
Thank you for sharing Mark. Gave me courage to tell my tale. Came to Canada in 90... was in a US university for 3+ years prior, but originally from Latinamerica. As an avid music lover ...jazz, Latin jazz, rock (drummer) ..my life changed when I heard the Hip. Looked into their evolution and saw something remarkable. They were themselves and and uniquely Canadian and had phases along the way from fun and games, to dark themes, to Canadian history/politics lessons... all with a distinct Canadian flavour. Becoming Canadian was eerily easy with the Hip as my soundtrack. I learned what it meant to be Canadian with their help.
I was already barely recovering from Petty's passing. Gord's passing is now unbearable man. Two great ones gone..

How many times in life are we able to give roses to those who deserve it most whilst they are still alive. This wasn’t just about it being the Hip’s last concert. It was our opportunity as a country to say thank you! Thank you To a man who has given his soul to his art and a band that represented us Canadians so well. So for One last time, THANK YOU! I will always remember this moment and their music will always be with us!
Filled Officers Square in Fredericton (watched it with my adult children on a beautiful summer night). Saint John had several outdoor and indoor venues showing the concert, filled to the rafters. Even my 78 year old mother watched the concert and she'd never heard their music before. This was so much more than a concert by a beloved Canadian band. This was a national coming together for an iconic group of musicans and the unabashed love and respect for Gord Downie.
This was a Canadian experience… one of our “where were you “ moments. Gord was really wonderful and we’re lucky we got to say goodbye to him as a country. I still miss him so much.

I remember watching this live on the CBC. Looking back now, I'm glad I watched this home all by myself. I cried so much through out the concert. No one needed to see that. RIP Gord.... you are missed....

Gord, I was in Canada in 96/97, saw you at the Corel Center. My school
friends insisted on their weird foreigner to accompany and watch the
best band in the world. You may have noticed us. ;-) My friends were the
only row totally calm and nailed deep deep into their seats after
consuming too many veggies - strike! The rest of the Corel Center was at their
feet going crazy. I will never forget that picture.

Sitting here, 5yrs removed from this prolific event, and I still can’t stop the tears. I cry for everything we lost with Gord’s death, every lyrical blessing he bestowed upon us, every moment of harmony he still brings to our lives. He may be gone, it may be 2022, but In Gord, We Still Trust.
This song reminds me so much of my husband, my wonderful Canadian husband. It was our wedding weekend, we, plus my new BIL were driving to Venice FL and we put the Tragically Hip in the cd player and this song played..this song will forever remind me of that weekend..my husband and all the wonderful and amazing things he brought into my life. He is gone now, he died last June my incredible and strong hero. RIP Rob ~ till we see each other again ~ XOXO

When I watch videos of bands playing to crowds of thousands, I always think about how cool it must feel to be a musician and have a sold-out arena singing your words back to you... but to have an entire freaking country doing so??? I can't even imagine.
This is what a band means to a generation across the nation.
There is certainly more than one generation of fans that like them, but it is across the nation.
This is utterly heartbreaking and incredibly inspirational all at once. Shed a tear for Gord on 11/17/2018. A Canadian living in Atlanta, GA.

In 1995 I bought a ticket for Rolling Stones' Voodoo Lounge Tour and yes ... the Hip were there again.
I've never heard them live again, but this band will always have a very special place in my heart. In Gord I trust! Long live Canada!

Six time zones wide. No nation ever held a bigger block party. I was there. Macdonell Street, halfway between Wyndham and Carden, just past the Guelph City Hall fountain. I still mark the spot. A late summer's night in 2016, all the generations of an entire nation came out to sing and sway, and offer our gratitude. History finds its high spots, too. Only this band. only this country, could make this happen. It was so beautiful. Six time zones wide.

I imagine if anybody were to pull it off, no question the one and only band and I would say pretty firmly no other band even comes close, it would have to be Aerosmith, u can imagine Steven Tyler announcing he hasn’t got long to live and they do one last tour across the US with their last concert in Boston, would definitely be something else

To watch the death of an era is slow, and unnoticeable. To watch the final minutes of such a band was one of the most memorable moments of my life.

Watched this at the trailer park. Watching from the deck across the street through someone’s window looking at their TV. We had the sound coming through the radio. Unreal experience. So special, glad I got to spend it with my dad and grandfather!

I watched this show with my wife and wept. As a long-time Hip fan South of the border, I want to say thank you Gord, thank you Hip, and thank you Canada.
I don’t use the tern hero very often however Gord certainly was a hero. To be dying and rather than live out your final days in the comfort of your home with loved ones he chose to show love and appreciation to his fans and his country. That is probably in my opinion the most courageous and selfless act one could perform.

Now February 2022 and I didn't expect to see footage only of the audience. Thanks for that, couldn't keep it dry here.... so surreal and unfair and heart breaking. Miss you & love you Gord.
I live in Halifax. I was so grateful to be given free tickets, free accommodation, and free plane tickets to the show in Edmonton on this tour. I flew from Halifax to Edmonton for 1 day, went to the concert, had an INSANE van taxi ride on the way back to the hotel with 5 strangers blasting Nelly, and flew back to NS the next morning.
For as long as I live I will never forget the entire thing and being part of Canadian history.
I was in Ottawa watching it live on tv (and I was also pvring the concert). Love every minute of it. But what made it even more too real for me was when Gord broke down and my youngest daughter (at the time 4) asked why Gord started to cry on stage. I explained to her that he was very sick (didn’t want to scare her with the fact that he was going to die), she then turns around responding, “Mummy, he needs is a hug. I wish I could give him a hug to make him feel better.”
My dad introduced this band to me (he is from winnipeg) its probably the best thing to ever happen to me
