It actually worked out well. By not wanting to repeat himself for acknowledging cast/crew, he gets to shine the spotlight on the other great talents who inspired him and others.

I agree. I thought it was the third best film of the year, behind Parasite and The Lighthouse.
It was not the official submission from France. They submitted Les Miserables which was even nominated.
Amit Verma I know, but it’s such a stupid rule. The filmmakers who actually made the film should be celebrated, regardless of the films country of origin.

Portrait of a lady on fire hasn't been well received in its country. It has a lot of negative reviews. Celine talked about this in a interview for "The Guardian"
This was probably the most predictable Oscar win of all time.
It was literally impossible for Parasite to not win this category. It was the only foreign film nominated for Best Picture, meaning it was the best out of the nominees here.
Gar96 this and TS3 winning best animated films in 2011 because it was the only film in the category to get nominated for best picture as well

It's really crazy that this was the first South Korean film nominated. The amount of well recognized and respected movies that have come out of SK in the last 2 decades is quite a bit.

In my opinion the success of this film at Oscars not only overwhelm South Korea, also the whole Asian film industry. You can see every Asian face in the audience showing how they are proud of this film.

the farewell is an american production, so it couldn't be nominated at all. something similar happened to "letters from iwo jima" and "apocalypto"

I wasn't expecting anything different. I absolutely love "Parasite". It immediately became one of my new favorite movies when I watched it on the theater last year. I only wish that "Bacurau", from my Brazil, had been nominated as well.

We all knew that Pain and Glory would have won in a very deserved way, but when Parasite arrived this changed and South Korea would be celebrating in a big way... That is so, the victory for Original Screenplay was well deserved, nobody saw the Director win coming and Best Film less so but it was an incredible surprise

Miracle in cell 7 (Turkey) should have been nominated. One of my favourite movies
Miracle in cell no.7 is originally a South Korean movie, the Turkish remake has the exact same plot as the Korean one. If you were touched by the Turkish version, you’ll be touched (might also bawl your eyes out) by the Korean one as well.
