"Its a funny and scary movie"
He forgot all the other 20 emotions everyone felt throughout the movie
Yes as a poor boy who lost his father at an early age , I felt the struggle to get rich , the hopes for the boy to tutor a rich girl and he was happy that his life changes , but in reality life never changes by our plans , sad people remain sad for their lives I felt that in the movie and I was shocked by this movie
Right. I got all tense
yeah,, right.
Director Bong seems to have a tendency to minimize the words but maximize the descriptions thru actions & outputs.
Just try to Imagine those who would watch "parasite" with this concise information given by him.
They may go in cold but come out boiling hot being amazed at how the story unfolds stirring up their emotion while keeping them on the edge of their seat.
And you forgot a 0 in 200
More than funny and scary, I thought it was really really sad in the end
“It’s just a funny and scary movie.”
That’s one way to put it.
Thomas Cowley I feel like that sums it up perfectly! It was a little of everything
That movie was every genre possible lol
Thomas Cowley thats why the genre of the film is tragicomedy
mrmichaelmw go into the movie completely blind, bro. Trust me, it’s best that way.
@mrmichaelmw Those cringy moments are the sources of suspense. Bong is a master of creating suspense like his idol Hitchcock. If the characters were 100% relatable the genre 'thriller' will never have come to be, only drama. Black comedy tries to focus on tragedy in a comedic way which leaves the audience in ambiguous uncertainty of emotions. Was that funny or was that terrible why did I laugh is there something wrong with me is there something wrong with the situation. The stream of consciousness that black comedy triggers is the purpose of social satire, to make the audience keep thinking about the idea and scene of the movie rather than forget about it. Look at you, you are still thinking about that uncomfortable scene and talking about it right now, and that is why Bong Joon Ho and Parasite is a master and a masterpiece
It’s not often the director gets all the credit and attention for a movie.
That's because the actors sucks

No one talking about how this guys just comfortably tries to speak English, switches back to Korean when he's at his limits, and then tries again over and over like a boss?
That’s what fascinates me about people from other countries. They always try to speak English to the best of their ability and every now and then when I see someone thats so fluent in both English and their Native language that they are able to switch between the two without skipping a beat, I just have to mentally applaud them. Us Americans usually can only speak English and the couple of phrases that we learn in our High School French or Spanish classes
Yes i did notice lol, he reminds me of when i first started to absorb the language.
I'm sure he's actually fluent in mind bcs sometimes what you mean inside your head are far ahead than your mouth that's why he's so smooth switching codes like that and he might didn't find the term in English because what the translator said was actually quite foreign for me too as a efl learner.
하중이HajungieKato I agree %100, when I first started learning English, I wasn't able to express myself properly and wouldn't find the right words, but I would understand a lot more, I'm sure he will improve his skills now that he has so much international recognition.
하중이HajungieKato not that he needs to speak in English tho lol, we have a lot of English stuff so Korean is more than perfect.
The translator did an amazing job.
I can say the same about the German translater as well as the voice actors!
Yes! She is amazing. She just translates when she needs and get the meaning across very effectively when she does.
She really did, such a fast and efficient translation.
I agree. But it is worth noting that Bong Joon Ho understands English so she only needs to translate Korean to English. It is much more difficult to translate when you have to do it for both parties at their respective language.
Bobby Lee's new character is really great

THIS DIRECTOR IS SO ADORABLE can we just talk about how he's sitting at the end like a little kid? Love him
Exactly!! So cute!!
Truth Seeker I didn’t say that his gesture was cute because he’s a foreigner, I think that when you see a lot of actors, directors, writers and whoever have so much passion about something they worked so hard for and seeing them giddy and happy like a kid is adorable!
Maria Mina seriously? This guy is a cinematic genius and you’re patronisingly describing him like he’s a child?
James Beagley Really? You can clearly tell that my statement was nothing but positive? Are there other ways to describe this director that’s better than what I said? Yeah obviously. Am I insulting this director at all when I keep explaining myself? Y’all are so worried and upset that I said the wrong thing for some weird reason why don’t you make your own comment telling people how YOU want to describe him.
I know your intention was coming from a good place, but historically speaking depicting Asian people as childlike is a racist trope in American propaganda. There was a very recent New Yorker cover depicting Kim Jong Un as a baby, showing this mentality still exists today. Just wanted to point it out from a place of respect, as I hope people would do for me when I am accidentally insensitive.
When was the last time a foreign director came on a late night show to promote his movie? That’s how big it is.
I dont think he was promoting his movie....its more like Tonight Show cashing in on his fame 🙂
Durgesh Kinnerkar but that’s exactly what he meant though. This movie is so good, successful and universal, he’s become more famous. He’s famous enough to get their attention.

Korea's artistic creativity in the film industry has been top tier for decades. Finally, the world is taking notice.
So Ni Burning is one of my favourite movies
its funny that just now westerners are actually noticing this, when korea probably has a better film history than all of hollywood. they've been making beyond oscar worthy films for years. parasite is just one of many and bong joon ho one of many absolutely superb directors. americans shoot themselves in the foot by being as arrogant as they are and as intolerant of other countries and cultures as they are, it means they miss out on this sort of brilliance. anybody who has just seen parasite as their first korean film, dont make the mistake of thinking this is a one off, korea has so many absolutely outstanding films.

Because this movie does it the best, other movies come off preachy, or simply boring. Honestly i don’t even have an example at the top of my head because they are obviously not memorable. Parasite is so subtle that surface level you could still enjoy the film by just watching and getting entertained by the storyline while it gets its point across in subtle ways about the terrible class gap. The poor could never be rich. It’s entertaining, and also talks about an important topic billions are facing

I will never understand those people that never get into foreign cinema, there are so many foreign gems out there, parasite being one of them of course.
Can you recommend few?
Smiling Buddha well, idk what's your style of movies but doing a bit of research you can find easily a couple of foreign classics. There's a Spanish film, for example, called "el laberinto del fauno" that won 3 oscars in it's time, pretty good if you ask me. French movies are also pretty good, a French classic would be "les choristes" the songs are absolutely beautiful and it's just overall a beautiful movie.
Idk if you're into anime, but there are very good anime movies out there you can check out, some of the best ones come from Studio Ghibli, they have classics like "spirited away" or "my neighbour Totoro", anime is overall pretty good to me, don't let the prejudices of anime prevent you from enjoying it.
For Korean movies there are quite a lot I've seen, the most popular ones apart from parasite it would be "train to busan" or "along with the gods".
Lastly, I will recommend a beautiful classic that everyone must watch, it's an Italian film called "la vita è bella" or in English "life's beautiful", it's an older movie but it is probably one of the most well-known old movies out there.
These are just a few foreign classics/popular movies you can start checking out if you are not familiar at all with anything outside of Hollywood or anything that's not in English. If you have Netflix you can also go on and explore the foreign tag, there's pretty good foreign stuff on Netflix too. Sorry this was so long lol there's just a lot for foreign stuff, I'm from Europe so I'm quite familiar with European films and because I'm a fan of anime and Asian entertainment overall I know quite a lot in that area too.

@@smilingbuddha If you want another great movie from this director watch Memories of Murder. The ending just sticks with you. It's based on a real story about a series of killings in the 80s.
@Smiling Buddha That’s okay each to their own, I’m personally a fan of a lot of classic cinema mostly because of my parents. They had a bunch of VHSs and DVDs of all sorts of classic movies and they liked to watch them when I was little, so I naturally grew into it. I’m of course still updated in more modern stuff too cause I overall really like cinema, but the classics never fail me.

Im impressed, he made history, he made his dream come true , God, I wanna be with those people all the time ! Well deserved Bong!!
توبوا الى الله لأن بالصلاح والاسلام تحيا النفوس والقلوب Repent to Allah in Islam because by Islam live the hearts and the souls
I’m so glad that Korean movies and shows are getting the attention they deserve
I thought i understood Korean by the end of the movie because i totally forgot i was reading subtitles. The movie was that goood......
Roflol.... Watch the movie, and you'll come out being fluent in another language!!! That's the bonus!!
Jojo Jo That’s called Bong-Us
(A Shitty joke from a Korean man, coming through.)
@뉴하트 i want to learn korean so bad.
Bcoz of bts and kdramas 😥😥😥
@뉴하트the living heart Yeah goblin is good.
Already watched it.
Anyway tq for the recommendations
I love how he hired a non-professional translator who also is a director as his translator. Bong truly has a discerning eye for casting the right people. Her translation is on point👌🏻
Ikr
Parasite is freaking insane, starts out as comedy and ends up as a horror! Gotta be high to come up with that script.
More like talented to come up with that script
And that's not even his best work. Memories of a Murder is.
And Mother is also a great film of his.
My Korean lessons are working!! I understood him!! Love his movies!!
_"Parasite"_ ✔️
_"Miracle in Cell No.7"_ ✔️
_"Train To Busan"_ ✔️
All this Amazing Korean Films !!👏👏👏
the lack of "The Wailing" saddens me
Snowpiercer
Old Boy, Tale of Two Sisters
The wailing, old boys and the 2 sister should be on list.
Miracle in cell no. 7 .. I can't. I cried rivers.
Best movie of the year not "just" best foreign movie.
the lighthouse for me is the best film of the year parasite is second for me
Exactly
The best films of every year are mostly foreign in this era. The American scene is lagging
Kirk Landau because Uncut gems, the lighthouse, marriege story, ouatih and the irishman dont exist right? Parasite is in my top 3 this years but all those films are arguably better
I put JoJo Rabbit up there also
The way Parasite and BTS add to S. Korea's popularity ..its insane!
HES SO ADORABLE THE WAY HE SWUNG HIS FEET 🥺
"It's just a funny and scary movie"
So accurate though
Swarnava Sen sooo accurate
“Thank you, let’s go home” he’s too funny😂👏🏼
Yup watched it the first time and I gotta say, I experienced different kinds of emotion the entire movie. Not many movies does that to you. The movie genre changed everytime and I literally had to paused the movie a while to digest every moment in the film. Tremendous stuff.
It’s SO EXCITING to me that these people from around the world are getting the recognition they deserve. This is a big time for S.Korea right now! I hope people will start watching more of S.Korea’s amazing movies and giving other foreign language films/music a chance
Struggles of success, not getting to eat dinner because everyone’s applauding...
I don't mind struggling like that if I'm gonna be successful, ngl
“the film is best when you go into it cold”
i did not watch the trailer before watching the movie and i’m telling you i was NOT PREPARED for that much of a thrill ride.
DON’T WATCH THE TRAILER.. JUST GO WATCH THE FILM. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
The trailer is actually perfect though, because it actually doesn't give away anything about the movie!!
Absolutely agreed!! The movie just blows your mind away...
EXACTLY THE SAME HERE, AND IT IS THE WAY TO GO, I'M TELLING YOU..
Acutally no watch the trailer cause the trailer is giving away nth at all
@@kushalbajracharya7759 really? Then it was me overcommitted of not watching the trailer i guess, because i haven't watched it up UNTIL NOW lol...
Bong Hoon Jo understands English perfectly and speaks English quite well you can see that when answers the questions she doesn't have to interpret and translate it, Sharon Choi is the best, she is beautiful and smart and interpret his words perfectly with nuance, emotion and passion, I love them and they are the best.
First time watching an interview with this guy after the Oscars. He’s such a nice genuine guy. I like how he really tries to speak as much English as he can out of respect 👍🏻
Best movie of 2019, my personal favorite of the decade.
mine too
Fury Road & Parasite, best films of the decade
Same here
Blade runner 2049?
@@swhelan1648 didnt watch it yet! definitely should
I'm soooooo glad they invited him to the show and that the movie is being recognized internationally!!
Much respect for Bong Joon Ho. Not only is he one of the greatest directors in the world, he is so humble and down to earth. Wishing him a Happy New Year!!
Bong Joon Ho 👍👍👍
He’s such a boss. I love him so much. Also Best Movie of the Year.
His translator is a genius.... :o
Yes.... I'm Korean American and have seen lots of interpreters before but she is exceptional and translates VERY well... not so much literally all the time since some things get lost in translation. She must be fluent in both languages. Usually translators are better in one language and weaker in the other.
Parasite is the greatest movie of all time.
I just finally watched it and was floored. I love how original it is. It’s the best movie I’ve seen for 2019. Granted I didn’t watch 1917, but for me, I’m pulling for Parasite to win Best Picture.
This is the most honest man i've ever seen to be in a talk show😂
You can tell he’s a maestro, at the top of his game.
The movie was a masterpiece of modern cinema.
I dont think ill ever be able to express how much I truly LUV director bong. such an inspiration!
I don't think anyone can disagree with the fact that Bong is a genius
there are always exceptions. yeah, it's me.
The best movie is in 2019 and this movie tries tell us so many things. it is so deep, scary but funny as well.
If Bong's Memories of Murder were to released today, it would have won all the Oscars that it was nominated for. I mean Parasite was brilliant and it does indeed deserves every award at this year Oscar but Memories of Murder was another league above it.
Bong Should have got 8 Oscars by now
I have seen this movie but actually i didn't get it ( the end was very strange ). Can you explain?
@@moonchild5769 Movie was based on real unsolved case of a serial killer in korea from 80s-90s so at the end when lead character stares at camera it meant we are watching you or something like that
He was caught or he surrendered by himself recently in 2018 or 19
Jimmy Fallon has a lovely way to make foreign guests feel so comfortable. Seen this during BTS interviews and now with Bong
I really like how Jimmy laughs. Not faking it, just honestly enjoying his guests’ talk.
Sarcasm
Lmao never could have agreed more. Just allows us to see how genuine and authentic of a person he actually is yk
Yeah he actually laughed here. You can tell by that sound he made at 2:16. I've only heard that from real, genuine laughs. It comes deep from the throat. Not only that but the laugh was pretty silent which is how real laughs generally are. His fake laughs are pretty loud and cringey
There is nothing faker than Jimmy Fallons laugh
Everyone should watch his movies. They're amazing!
he seems humble.
Korean culture promotes humble behavior.
I love that man
Parasite is such a jaw dropping movie ever im not even kidding.
You left the theatres in an awesome daze like what did i just watch
