You and Logan do great work thank you for posting
Wow, that is one heck of an RC submarine!
Sadly, the rivet counters exist in all aspects of modeling.
Outstanding review of this subject matter. I want you to know I have the highest respect for you and what you do for this great hobby. You and Logan keep up the great work.
I’m new to rc submarines and watch your videos regularly and have learned a lot by doing so. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. There are people like this wherever you go and whatever you do. Ignore him, he is not worthy of your time.
u built so many nice boat bob n thought me many things as a new comer about this hobby😁😁😁
having had the privilege of meeting you in person. talking online and making some killer deals. I can say that you make the hobby fun to get into. was this the same guy who did not like the Arizona thats for sale?? nothing wrong with counting rivets on your own model. but if your going to put someone down for alot of work that they had fun doing. NOTE: FUN being the key. let it be. this is a super fun Hobby for all. keep slapping those models together Bob. we Luv them. the best. LOL!!!!!!
This little saga reminds me of watching people attempt to build the 1/350 Polar Lights USS Enterprise kit from Star Trek, very few ever succeed in completing a full lighted and painted accurate looking model. Those that do can have failed many times before they get something that they are proud of, but the rivet counters will always find fault, but constructive criticism is far more welcome than downright ripping the model apart for the satisfaction of that selfish so called expert, it's a hobby guys, let's be positive and respect and encourage each other to enjoy the model, and even a expert was once a novice.
I love you the models you guys do, the work you and Logan put in on making an painting the tiny figures and bridge sets is awesome. As we have seen with the flying sub making something that's from a tv series to just getting it work can be hard and frustrating at times, it is even harder when it's not your model and it's already started.
I admit I cringed when you started cutting the back of sea view up to allow water flow but it works.
The Seaview you got looks great, end of story.
I guess you gotta have a thick skin when putting out video's on the 'tube. I love what you do - keep on doing it for the grateful majority of your viewers.
Oh, right I forgot to add. That model is inspiring (as inaccurate as it purportedly is). Thank you for highlighting it.
I am a master modeler who has over 50 years of building experience and although I am not a big RC person myself I always love seeing what you guys do. I go to model shows to see what other modelers do and I always go away learning something new. Thats what the hobby is all about. You should never say to yourself that you know everything, you should always have an open mind and always be gracious to your fellow modeler weather they are pros or just starting out. This is a community type hobby which even though we like criticism of our work it does not reflect well on anyone being over bearing (Rivet counter) because you just come out being obnoxious. You have a great channel here and don't change anything about what you do. I plan on (when I retire) to build Lindberg's 1/125 scale Fletcher class destroyer and I plan on using alot of the tips that you have given me to build my project with confidence. Don't let the obnoxious individuals ruin your day and don't ever find yourself defending what you do to people who are just happy saying I'm great and you suck. They have very sad lives and probably alienate a lot of their friends if they have any. Keep up the great work .....George
I was a Subcommittee member in 90's. Bob Martin is a capable builder. Not a Huckster. David Merriman is a legend. Fortunate enough to have known Mike Dory and his amazing RC subs. All of the above mentioned are better builders than I will ever be. Bob builds for those that have the money or lack the time and/or skill to build an RC sub. Bean(rivet) counters only offer venomous vitriol rather than constructive suggestions. Ignore the vitriol and continue doing your best to provide products and services to a niche market.
Just made my day, pal.
Dear Bob
I build RC scale helicopters and RC submarines only from time to time.
I want to thank you for your wonderful videos.I really enjoy them watching.
And thanks what you do for the RC hobby.
There are sometimes people around who feel better talking bad or from a higher stand about others guy passionate work.
I experience this very often sometimes in flying clubs sometimes on exhibitions where I take part with my models.
Yes it hurts. Very often it is just plain jealousy or poor self confidence. You build great Submarines and the products you sell are very good.
Good luck for your shop and do not care those haters.
Kind regards
Günther
Once disagreement turns ad hominem, you just have to walk away. Hardly worth arguing over anyway, the differences are subtle and would be unnoticeable to all but the most ardent enthusiast of the subject.
It's a custom model, keyword "CUSTOM" so build it your way DIY. Even the show was fiction and this sub never existed. This is one of the problems with RUclips and the internet in general. Keyboard warriors. Thanks for the video, Bob, Mike in Oregon.
Outstanding.. AWSOME sub guys .. carry on doing the outstanding jobs you’re doing as always …..😎
Growing up from the sixties, I've always had a passion for submarines from conventional to nuclear. We only had a few model shops and books to serve the passion and love of the model world. Watched all the films and series with subs as their theme. Over the years and with the advent of the Internet, I've been able to expand my knowledge via people like you, your son and affiliates. Watching your channel for many many years, It is grossly unwarranted to level such comments about you. Whilst I watch other model makers whose passion are rc planes, the transition from concept to actual working model remains an absolute pleasure. Sir, you, your son and all of your associates remain a force for good that many of us will continue to delight in. Logan, Bob and all associated, keep up the very good work you do and I'll keep watching, learning and enjoying you generosity in sharing it all with us. God bless
Based on my association, with Bob Martin (business and friendship) in this hobby for the better part of 5 years, I think the person that has seen fit to JUDGE you needs to take a good hard look at himself (no body is perfect) Might be he is just plain jealous of what you have done for this hobby!? Not only as to your building skills, but building a great business, and your social media skills getting this great hobby out for everyone to enjoy!
Bob, you can take great pride in what you have done, and continue to do to move this hobby forward in such a positive manner. Stay strong!!
Hey guys I love watching you guys I’m a rc airplane guy I do the air you do the water , awesome job!
Great comments everyone, and sea view on the background looks impressive she will great on the water.just like the tv series I remember as a kid all those years ago anyone remember the theme tune?then I hope you agree with me this is the seaview.
I have never seen the TV show, the model looks amazing. BTW, how out of scale does it look underwater? stop feeding the trolls, not worth the time.
Wow @RCSubguy sorry you had to deal with a situation like that. I still really enjoy your videos as well as learning from you. One day I will have the Gato class Sub, that I dream of, hell maybe even model it after the sub from Operation Petticoat
I wish I had your Seaview RC model. For your good hard work, and your sons, your Seaview is a work to be admired. Great artistic work you guys did.
I think I know who that long soliloquy critique came from as well.
Please read my comments. I’m the builder of that Seaview it’s my second 104 ship. You can see the other on on RUclips under Frank Salernos Seaview. But please read my other replies to people’s various comments. I like to give credit where credit is due. And just so you know I build for my pleasure not for some has been, self proclaimed expert.
@@frank-simr4488 Okay, are you referring to the gentlemen's video here, as the, "has been self proclaimed expert"?
No. If you misunderstood my reply or maybe I am mid understanding yours, I am no way speaking about Bob or Logan or Ed. I am referring to some person who doesn’t have a life and is a self proclaimed expert on something that is a fantasy. He lives in California. Bob is a very good friend. Who I,as a PROFESSIONAL MODEL MAKER for almost 30years,is a great model maker. So with that I am done talking on this subject. I build for my pleasure and my enjoyment not to please some wannabe. Her sister ship was my first sub and wish you could see it all. Go on RUclips and look up Frank Salerno’s Seaview. There are several videos. Enjoy.
I just want to know where the real Seaview is this is sitting on the bottom of the ocean resting somewhere? Just came out of somebody’s head science-fiction.
Rivet counters are so annoying. Here in the UK, a friend of mine built a model of the Royal Navy ship he served on right until it was decommissioned. A rivet counter came up to him and said "Those were never fitted with that part in that location!" My friend replied "Well, it was when I served on board until its final days. When did you serve?" Said rivet counter didn't answer and walked off. Watching the series, it looks like there were several filming miniatures. The one where torpedoes are launched appears to have hydroplanes in the front nose section, but in other scenes, the area is smooth (as on your model) and not all are the same size.
Speak life. Very cool boat, Admiral Nelson would love it, Kawalski too.
great video and agree with you 100%
I’m busy counting the rivets on my OTW type VII…..this sounds like a job for Luca Merriman…
Perhaps this critic heard you mention the Dive Tribe & thought you said diatribe so obliged you in response.
Hey the SeaView is a fictional boat a good model is a good model.
The story about my friend, Harlan Ellison, tearing the *_Seaview_* model off the wall and smacking Irwin Allen with it is factual actual. Harlan oft repeated the tale.
People like that are not worth the time of day.
I have meet people like this....and five minutes into the conversation I know I am done with that person.
If he does not like what you are doing.....then go watch something else.
People build to the level of their skill and experience and should be allowed to be proud of what they have accomplished so far.
NO ONE, not even this person, builds the perfect model first time.
Our goals should be to increase our skills with each build.
Some things you try, will not work, but that is how you learn and improve.
Someone once said, you learn more from your mistakes than from your successes.
Bob and Logan, I love to watch what you are working on and sometimes I see new ideas that I want to try to add to my skills.
In a parody of Dan Ackroyd's famous rant on the news segment of SNL to Jane Curtis, "Bob you ignorant Huckster" 😂
I am an avid RC plane modeller. We talked years ago talking through my Russian flying submarine. I would not call my self a riveter.
We see the "rivet counters" in this end of the RC model hobby too. And my hats off to those who spend the time and energy to go to those lengths. But many of us approach the RC hobby with the time constraints to just be excited we have a working model. And even more proud that we built it ourselves. Elitism is not inclusive. And the BUILD IT YOURSELF end of the hobby is finding fewer who will take on the challenge. Encouragement, not discouragement is how the hobby grows. Look at what this channel demystifying what it takes to Sub, and Flite Test's supportive, relaxed, "easy" hobby introduction has done for RC airplanes... Hundreds of thousands have taken up the hobby because of how inspiring these channels are.
If the newcomers stick with it, likely they will grow and become the next balsa builder, or other creative mind in the hobby.
The Rivet Counters have great value. I routinely admire and are inspired by their work. I just don't think criticizing existing works is going to entice anyone to start counting. Pointing out detailing success is likely better.
I want to leave you with this Bob; Thank you for this channel and what you do. The details you reveal, and how clearly you help people know what they are in for. Saves on disappointment, and sets folks up to find success and joy with it.

If one has never suggested or inferred that any model (s) is a 100% replica then anyone questioning wether they are exact replicas is ludicrous.
I am a huge fan of Voyage to the bottom of the sea movie, and TV series. I watched it when it origionally aired. I had the Remco seaview, and loved it. I have the Aurora, Polar Lights, Lunar vacuum formed, and Moebus models of the movie and TV series. There are differences in all of the prop models. Many versions for different scenes in the movie, and TV series. One of the actual movie models in the movie had a wire on the hull between the fins. I have never seen a modeler add that detail, I did. Watch the movie on a large screen, you’ll see it. On the other hand the Remco Seaview was very inaccurate yet I loved it most as a kid. The entire voyage to the bottom of the sea was imaginary. Who cares if a model is within a thousands of an inch accurate of one of the imaginary Seaviews versions. I don’t believe anyone should. Just enjoy the adventures, and the imagination Irwin Allen.
Compare Both seaviews side by side DeBore and Rays countour
And moebuis for a study
Please read my previous comments. Ray, Bob or Logan did not build this Seaview. I did. Frank Salerno. The first three feet of the model is from Ray’s mold. All the rest is from molds which I remastered and made new molds. Ray knows this and as a dear friend helped me out a lot bring Seaview up to spec for MY PLEASURE not some wannabe model maker.
No complaint here Frank,we talked you and I and I know Ray, I was saying it would make an interesting articale/study of all seaview ever made from the ArourA kit too moebuis. By the way lazers are great but everything is better with BlueTooth!
As Edd said there is to much judgement in this world already, but when it enters our hobby’s that’s when it’s gone to far. There is no such thing as perfection.
I always say Haters are your best fans…..😎🍻
Primarily, I model trains where the term “river counter” originated, so I know how you feel. I enjoy watching your show, it’s amazing how you and Logan manage to create practical, realistic, and working submarines! I’ve been following your saga with the infamous Flying Sub, you must’ve been under considerable stress to finally get it in working order. And now you have this situation to deal with. Unbelievable!
What this person doesn’t seem to realize is that once he’s gone, who’s going care about all of this? After we’ve all left the scene, who will even know what the Seaview was? How many young people (other than Logan) have seen the show? The sub itself has logistical difficulties- how is the Flying Sub supposed to take up so much space in the Seaview, for example. It’s a fantasy, after all, made for, and conforming to standard broadcast television entertainment, electronic cotton candy. Much of Irwin Allen’s work falls into this category.
In other words, we shouldn’t take anything too seriously, time enough was wasted on this bitter experience. Make your days happier!
I think what would be cool is a 4 foot. See view split in 1/2 length wise with night lights underneath the bottom. Just the artwork that was created is beautiful in itself and would be awesome to hang on a wall. I know you're sub guys, but I'm not a sub guy. I just know awesome art when I see it.😢
I think i know who the mystery guy is...lol
Hi Bob, thanks for making us aware of the negativity you have to cope with, sorry that the individual felt it necessary to put their jealousy of what you and your family openly contribute for our edification, into writing. Hmm, documented. To make a fictional object a point of contention, thats sad.
Looks OK to me
The seaview is a fictional boat. Is there really scale concerns for a sub that has never existed other than the model used in a tv show.
I totally agree
Nothing but a rivet counter and saying that 80% of modelers don’t have the skill that’s a bold statement any hobby is designed for enjoyment you build it your way , people need to get a grip on reality…
you were very diplomatic and handled it very well. considering the guys was a 🔔End
I'm a model maker but when I see your work I'm amazed but there will always be some one out there ready to pull you down and as for trying to push his stuff then that's basically sabotage ro tour work but this will come back to bit him in the but as karma is a wired mistress lol keep up the good work and do what you enjoy regards Paul in the uk
I just can't believe some people would even say that about a model a lot of time and effort just a very sad person
Paul
😂
dont tell me the guy doesnt even have a youtube channel,
trolls for you,
some people need to get a life
My name is Frank. I am the builder of the Seaview behind Bob. It is the sister ship of an rc model which is the same size (104 inches). You can view it on RUclips. Frank Salerno’s Seaview. This guy needs to get a life. My sub fires missiles, fires torpedoes, has working nav. lights, has a real laser in the front, has working radar antenna, snorkel, periscope, working crash doors, fore and aft dive planes, hidden bow thrusters, visible interior of control room behind windows etc. I rest my case. Get a life.
I took the time and effort to remaster the Ray Mason hull to the proper specifications. I did this for my own pleasure and gratification. Not to please some self proclaimed expert that doesn’t even have a functioning model.
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”
Like Ed said, you have these “rivet counters”. that make the hobby sad.
Keep doing what you are doing.
Besides, they are all replicas.
End of story.
After seeing this I looked for the comments but couldn't find them. Did they get deleted? It sounds like basic snobbery. I suspect almost all models aren't 100% accurate, especially a fantasy model of a subject that didn't even exist in real life. Even the various scale original Seaview filming models didn't match each other. If someone has to tell you how great they are. They're probably not that great.
Nope. In fact, the originator of that letter Bob read is one of the finest model-builders I know. A bit defensive, yes, but a great model-builder. I learned much from that guy's fantastic work.
Bob did the right thing defending/explaining Ray's work and the reasons-why he departed from canon. And it was a guilty pleasure watching Bob do the slow-boil on video -- he's such a calm and reasoned guy, even when obviously pissed off. Those Canadian's: Nicest people on the planet... till a hockey game breaks out, then it's Katy-bar-the-door.
@@montigobear I'm not judging the mystery mans modeling skill, especially since I don't know who he is or what he has done. I'm not sure what you mean by just "nope"? Do you think what he has said about Ray and Bob is in anyway true or fair? I agree with what Bob, Ed and Logan have said and how they have handled this situation. There's no reason to go out of your way to insult other peoples work.
Maybe he is a good model maker weather in his own mind or not. May he should work on his personality. And learn the rule if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say a damn thing. Signed- the actual builder of that beautiful Seaview behind Bob
@@frank-simr4488 Hi Frank. I do know who you are from Dive Tribe meetings. I greatly admire your work and your attitude. As we all know, you can't please everyone. Jason.
I don’t really get the drama. It’s a hobby!!!!!
Imaginge making a salty manifesto because someone didn´t do something exactly the same way as you did...
To many Karen's today
I'm in the hobby to have fun and pass the time. Not to measure modeling skills against the arbitrary standards of self important people who are so empty inside they lack human decency. The guy is a narcissist and the Internet has created record numbers of them.
The seaview is an imaginary vessel, the scale is whatever you want what a scale weenie.at least in the crawler world this shit doesn't happen.wow just wow.
How is that Seaview not to scale? And what exactly was wrong with it that this person did not like? It does not look short to me.
This one is not short. I brought it up to the right proportions. Ray is my friend and had no problem with me doing this. It was a lot of work but I do it because I enjoy the hobby and I do it to please ME.
I have made two of these 104 inch Seaview’s. The one behind Bob and one that is fully functional that you can see on RUclips under Frank Salerno’s Seaview
I wish I knew who the letter author was.
