    I agree. I had one with all bells and whistles in 2011. Those items you speak about here are totally true. I spent 51,000 out the door for an ext cab molten orange truck. I did not like those. Now my mileage, I got 16 MPG. Of course it did take about 130.00 to fill it up once a week. Which is why I sold it. It looked cheap, however drove great!

    I have to say that complaining about the fuel economy of a 6.2 liter V-8 powered, high performance, off road pickup is just about silly. The lack of a central locking tailgate I will give you.
    I am disappointed with Ford Sync. You can not ask it to turn on the heated seats?

    • @diamond_movado
      @diamond_movado 11 лет назад

      Complaining about the mpg is not silly, The new chevy corvette 6.2L V-8 engine gets about 29 mpg on the highway. Ford could've done better with the mpg.

    • @diamond_movado
      @diamond_movado 11 лет назад

      Flooring it in any car including a 4 banger will get you shit mileage so idk why you're using that in your argument. Weight isn't the issue here. It's the technology that Chevy has with only using 4 cylinders when driving normal. It's technology that ford hasn't got yet. Bitch away.

    • @diamond_movado
      @diamond_movado 11 лет назад

      Besides the raptor is supposed to be lighter than the average truck due to it's purpose. Its a light duty truck based off the f150. Chevy avalanche has the same technology as the corvette where it only uses 4 cylinders when driven normal getting around 27 mpg highway. Avalanche weighs twice as Much and has less hp and torque. No excuse for the ford.

    • @DavidSiebert
      @DavidSiebert 11 лет назад +2

      The Avalance uses a 5.3 liter V8 and makes around 100HP less than the Raptor. The Raptor also is optimized for off road. It is tall with chunky tires.

    • @diamond_movado
      @diamond_movado 11 лет назад

      That doesn't matter. It also weighs a lot more than the raptor. 11 mpg is just stupid

    I posted this as a reply, but I thought worth pointing out so maybe TFL can read this. I think you should keep the mpg of the truck in perspective. 20+ year old F150 that are lifted, off-road tires, stroked 351W (393-408) get about 6-8mpg, and still don't offer the same level of performance the Raptor does. If you think about that it is actually impressive the truck offers this level of performance, comfort, and reliability while maintaining gas mileage that is about 50% better than similar 'modified' trucks of the past ... just keep it in perspective. You can also look at the standard half-tons from back then that got ~15-17mpg, and today we have trucks that are going to be pushing up against 30mpg within the next few years (per predictions of manufacturers), and you get the same type of perspective. It really is a lot of advancement in technology that brought trucks this far, so don't forget where we came from.

    The Raptor looks like pure fun on or off road. Unfortunately fun can be very expensive and usually has a down side or two. In the end if the truck is sufficiently entertaining then the negatives will not matter all that much.

    I own a 2014 Raptor Supercrew and the gas mileage is better than the 2013 ecoboost I traded in on the purchase, on the highway. Off road fuel mileage should be accounted for separately and expected to be crappy when you're hammering the go pedal, crawling over major resistance or slugging it through mud, what do you expect, good gas mileage?? Try that with any vehicle and see how fuel efficient it is. That said, this truck rocks...its fun on and off road and a capable work truck too, great job Ford!

    The #3 dislike was actually the MyFord Touch system, not Sync. The Sync system is the voice control along with Bluetooth pairing and other sync services. The big infotainment screen is simply MyFord Touch, which I agree, is not so great. Sync can be had without MyFord Touch, however, and is very good by itself.

    • @CalifLove

      Just my 2 cents - I have a 14 Explorer Sport with MFT & Sync. I find it easy to control A/C & Radio from the screen. I find that its very rare that I interact with the screen or console "buttons" for controlling the radio instead using the steering wheel controls 95% of the time. The navigation system I think sucks. So much so that I don't ever use it and instead use Google Maps via my phone. The voice recognition works so much better and I can say something simple like "Navigate to Target" and it will give me the closest few Targets as destination options... Which leads to MFT/Sync voice recognition. In general, it sucks. I say that because you have to give directions in steps rather than 1 smooth command. You would think they could easily update that - hell 4 year old smart phone hardware has no problem with that! Raptor looks like a kick ass truck. For the price though, I think they could have made the fit and finish a notch better. I feel similarly about the rear seat section of my Explorer though I think up front the quality of materials in the Ex is a few steps ahead of the Raptor.

    The Fast Lane Truck I definitely agree with the tailgate and gas mileage. But I will say this I use my raptor as my daily driver after I purchased it I caught on quickly to drive better and using the power when I truly need it. Switch lets me get 12 city and 14 highway not the best but pretty good for a raptor. Also I like the dash material makes it faster to clean when I take it off road on the weekends. In the long run the ford raptor is a amazing truck definitely worth to purchase. My 2014 Svt Raptor crew cab ruby red is my first real new truck purchase and I have no regrets. I definitely look forward to purchasing the new raptor once it comes out.

    I bought a 6.0 quad cab dually for $12,000 last year. Best truck I've ever had. I can see this truck would be fun but the fact is you can't go to Lowe's and get a load of sheetrock in it like you can with a King Ranch or Lariat. At the end of the day, buying a used heavy duty is the best bang for your buck. 250,000 miles and it runs like its new.

    I bought mine used, hunted until I found a 2014 in excellent condition for around 30grand. When I first got it the salesman was get on it, go ahead. The fuel mileage was showing 11.4. I never did get on it. Anyways I got it. I reset settings. I put it on cruise on the way home at 65mph. I averaged 16.8 I slowed down to 63mph I averaged 17mpg. In town when I drove like grandma I averaged 14.8 to 15.2. But these fuel mileage numbers drop faster than they rise if you start pushing it. I can say it is a blast to drive, I have taken it off road in some sand, did some almost straight wall hill climbing it will climb. I disagree with him on how it rides. To be lifted like it is, size of tires, mine rides great, better than my 2012 Toyota 4 runner which is a V6, the best fuel mileage I get from this 200 and so hp 4 runner is 17.8hwy, 16.8 in town. I agree with the plastic dash feels like junk. No locking fuel door, glove box does not lock, I don't like the fact when I put the ac on high It automatically puts the air unit in circulation to outside air, this defeats the reason I wanted it on high. I wish Ford would Have fixed it to where I can choose manual mode or the auto mode for my seat and steering wheel rather than it self adjusting each time the key enters. And I agree, this is a 2014, why do you still have a key? My wife is Asian, even she enjoys driving this big truck. She said it make her feel like she owns the road. I also notice if you turn off the off trac mode each time it betters the fuel mileage. The button center dash, not on the console. Yes I went on and invested in a genuine Ford locking Gas cap, to many idiots out there now days that just be mean because they want to makes others life harder. Mine had the Ford 3" lift added from the dealer ship, Mirrored LED lights and one hell of a front bumper, that is almost ridiculous, but very intimidating to anyone who would want to think about playing chicken. I enjoy it though, I'm 48 years old, I have had plenty of Dodge and Chevy Guys pull up beside me revving up their motors. I pretend Like I'm going to race then let them speed off tearing up their vehicles. "you play you pay" golden rule to every thing you own.

  • @Skott62

    For most people a FX4 would be more than enough. The Raptor was made for off road racing and such. That requires a big beefy motor that puts out high hp, which it has, but you can't really expect decent mpg along with it. Just not going to happen. You have to decide which you want. Big fast gas guzzling truck or a smaller less gas guzzling truck?

    • @HoosierThrottle
      @HoosierThrottle 11 лет назад +1

    5-2 Agree. For $50,000 Ford cuts corners, especially when you can get a Sierra Denali or Silverado High Country for around that and they have a very nice interior. But for fuel economy, that's what you pay for when having a truck and engine that big. Its barely worse than a Denali or some nice SUVs.

      +Nissan TitanWarrior Let's not Forget though, that it was in fact Ford who started the trend of quality interiors in trucks with the 2004 model F-150. Think of any Ford, Chevy or Dodge pre 2004 year model, think of how their interiors looked. Then imagine a 2004+ F-150 interior...The difference is shocking. Everyone else just followed suite. I own a 2011 F-150 FX4 with the 5.0L and so far my only complaint quality wise is that the overhead sunglasses holders feel really flimsy. Other than that though, the truck is still just as solid and squeak/rattle free as the day I bought it.

      There's an ecoboost swapped Raptor if they are so worried about MPG lol ... just get that done if they are so worried about fuel costs. It is kind of funny to me, because 20 years ago this is the normal MPG any truck gets. The fact that such an awesome performance truck with 6.2L engine has that MPG is actually impressive compared to 20 years ago what a similar HP and displacement engine would get. If you look at an older 351W truck with lift kit, big tires, and a 393-408 stroker they tend to get about 8mpg, so ya ... it's good to keep it in perspective.

    • @678friedbed

      John Lawry Lol, while that seems a little bit of an overreaction, I can understand the sentiment :) ... I prefer normally aspirated V8 for reliability and simplicity of repairs, turbo stuff just always has more shit to break or get hot and melt when you start modifying it ...

    • @liljay300000
      @liljay300000 10 лет назад

      joeracer302 lol yeah I have known a few people that bought ecoboost f150's that had problems with them. But I can understand the appeal of the ecoboost in a regular f150. But when it comes to the raptor it is just wrong. The Raptor isn't about fuel economy its about the experience you get with that big V8 and the sound it makes you get rid of that and it ruins it.

      @dchawk81 11 лет назад

      chris lucy I'm not sure what you're implying. Your MPGs don't improve by fueling at the halfway mark. The only way you could maybe eek out a little more is if you let it go empty and only fill it half way so you're carrying less weight. I'm sure even that effort would be negligible though considering other factors.

    i mean the mpg sucks yes but what do you expect from a 6.2L v-8? it was designed for off roading, not daily commuting. if thats the concern, get an f150 platinum with an ecoboost. the only way to improve the raptors mpg is to put a smaller engine in it, and i dont think the target demographic for this truck would want that. i do strongly agree about the interior being cheap plastic. its easy to scratch and once its scratched, there is no fixing it

    • @kevintomb

      It is designed to be a road vehicle, with a lot of showy stuff and fluff and be moderately capable at some off road stuff also. No pick up is "Designed" to be an off road vehicle. That is what an ATV, Dirt bike, and various other vehicles ARE really designed for. It is a road going very expensive truck, with a few considerations to make it look appealing and moderately better at some off roading.

    you sir need to over come your disabilities. this truck is the raptor. if you need it to wsh your but and give you a pedicure... that would be a 70k truck. this truck can and will do it all excepthose functions. this truck will make you look like a man, but you sir have to be prepared to step upto the plate and also be prepared to hit a home run. if you need gas mileage perhaps get back into your prius, because you are out of your element. its a raptor, not a day at the spa. the name says it all. wrap your head around that for a minute and stop complaining. this truck was custom built to compete in the baja 1000 off the show room floor and finish. this truck was meant to be able to survive an areal attack and keep rollin. its the best 63k will buy you hands down. its not a sissy sipping a latte worried about mpg's. its a mans truck

I don't like the idea of it losing it's trade in value so fast so maybe another reason to stay with Ford?

      I highly doubt this $60-70k truck was meant to compete in any offroad racing event ever, seeing how it has no roll cage or enough money invested in the suspension. For that much money, you can build a better purpose built truck that will give you a chance to compete in these kinds of events, and still save money doing it. Uneducated and uninformed individuals like yourself make bold claims without any way of backing them up. Take your own advice and step up to reality to see that this is not the best buy in any category unless you want speed and beautiful sound with a black hole of a gas tank.

      wow you did not read his post right he stated that you would be able to complete it not come in first place. considering quiet a few people tha race in the Baja use the Raptor as there chase vehicle meaning it has to go over the same terrain to get out to the Baja rig to deliver parts and supplies. so that makes you the uneducated and uninformed individual because you nether know what this truck is capable of doing and you are incapable of reading the post correctly.

    Gas Mileage, in a truck like this, shouldn't be a primary concern. BUT, I could see it being a secondary concern. Yes, a 6.2L is going to chug the fuel, given, but if you have 2, 6.2L engines, side by side, with equal specs, but one gives you 17mpg combined (Just throwing out numbers here), and the other one, giving you 13... you're obviously going to choose the 17mpg one. Jus' Saying'

    Big d clearly doesn't understand what makes up your "mpg", its size and weight of the motor and vehicle, and type of
    transmission.
    A ford raptor weighs more than 6,000 LBS, look it up. Anybody thats buying a 50,000 offroad truck doesn't care (that much) about gas mileage because we pretty much know what to expect. Chevys do get better gas mileage but they're not set up to jump, which the raptor is. Even the 6.2L Silverado gets like 17, is 5 more mpg really that important to you?
    If you want good mpg, get a Honda or a Toyota, if you wanna jump shit and come home covered in mud every Saturday night and jump shit, the raptor is the best truck "out of the box"

The critique of the bed tie down options and the central locking system is valid. I would like to see maybe a leather wrapped dash without them raising the price.

    There are many things I don't like about the Ford raptor and starting with the first is, the price one has to pay is ridiculous. Second is, 12 miles to the gallon, third is engine is to big next is, very expensive to maintain this vehicle. Fourth is, to much money for road taxes every year, Last is, I don't like the extra long cab and very short bed for hauling.

    That tire pattern is almost useless off-road, Face it..it is a street pattern. One of the first things new Raptor owners do is go out in the boonies & go play in the mud. These tires are NOT for mud nor snow...just too much a "street pattern". Selecting mud tires are easy but you will get the mud-tire howl....that is why Ford put these tires on the Raptor. True off-road tires wouldn't sell as factory tires. Maybe a set of Interco Thornbirds would split the difference between on & off-road.

    • @chrishyun4659

      Ford wouldn't be able to sell half as many Raptors....if they had mounted as STANDARD, a full set of "True" off-road tires..........the tire howl would drive customers away in droves.....Sally-the-Soccer-mom who wanted to buy one to 'surprise' daddy, would walk away when she heard the tire howl on a test drive........

    • @678friedbed
      @678friedbed 10 лет назад +3

      the tires that come stock on the raptor are not street tires and there not mud tires they are an all terrain tire meaning it will get you through a little of everything and the reason why ford chose those tires is because they can be used both on and off road i dont know if you noticed but most people that haves these trucks either have never had them off road or are weekend worriers meaning that the truck spends most of its time hitting the pavement. i don't know about you but id rather not spend $1200 on a set of mud tires to where them out driving on pavement.

    • @AndieBlack13
      @AndieBlack13 10 лет назад

      678friedbed
      Considering the sticker price of a Raptor(Never buy a used Raptor!) is around $55K, I think a bit more money won't hurt too bad. While not performing at its best with some Mud-Tires on the street, what a pitiful sight it would be to see a Raptor get stuck in terrain it would easily plow thru, had it not been limited by the worthless tires. Granted, it may very well not even see poor terrain, but if the chance arose, wouldn't it be best to "be prepared"?

    • @678friedbed
      @678friedbed 10 лет назад

      considering that most people that buy these do it just to show off there money and never take it off road or the people that do take it off road but don't go in to areas that require M/T tires these are actually a good choice. these tires we not chosen because they where great off road they where chosen because they are a good all around tire. if you want something else you can always ask the dealer to trade the out or go down to the local tire shop and get a different tire. that's the nice things a bout tires they can easily be changed. when you get your tires changed do you always get the ones that came on the car from the factory or do you change them up

    I'm so sick and tired of auto journalists bashing Ford for hard plastic interiors. I went to a GM dealer a couple of weeks ago with a friend that was buying a used Ford from them, while waiting I checked out all the new GMs. The one that got the most attention from me was the 2015 buick SUV that had nothing but hard touch plastic everywhere inside. Buick? Isnt that supposed to be luxury. I want a tough truck, who cares if the interior isnt all soft and cushy. You want soft and cushy in a truck stay home.
