The Raptor is a terrible investment. No one should buy it. It's bad on gas. It has a v8. It takes jumps. No one wants that. Please don't buy Raptors. I'm definitely not saying this as a person that really wants a cheap used Ford Raptor
Lassi Kinnunen nah i think Doug is talking about buying it new and was using the old one as an example of how the value has held. Nah a used raptor is only a good buy relative to your needs (off-roading,sitting high). If you’re not off-roading and in the market for a used truck then DONT get the raptor because the value is high asf. Raptor is only a good investment new
So here's the thing about the 6.2L that people don't seem to understand. SVT ran this engine at redline for 36 hours straight without a single issue. Then used that same powerplant they tested in the Raptor R they placed 3rd in their class in the Baja 1000. The 6.2 is nearly bulletproof. It's a solid buy.
I paid 35 new for my 13 FX4. I've had it 6 1/2 yrs 85k miles. I could easily get 23-25k for it. That's like 30%ish deprecation. Now if you're talking trade in value...
Fun fact on the grill: You can buy them aftermarket for the other F150 trims, but the aftermarket companies can’t use Ford’s name. So they say DOOD and conveniently have a removable D and O, while also selling F’s and R’s.
I happen to own a '14 Raptor that I bought new, and had the dealer install the Roush supercharger and exhaust kits for it along with a leveling kit and some aftermarket rims/tires. It's about to turn over 30K miles, and I absolutely love the hell out of this thing. Except for the whole 11.3 MPG thing. That kinda sucks.
I guess this video came back up on the algorithm or something. I ended up swapping out the Raptor for a ‘17 NSX, and a year ago I swapped that out for a ‘21 GT500. 😀
Doug makes an excellent case for why you should NOT buy a used Raptor. If a vehicle has very little depreciation then that’s a vehicle you should buy new. I mean why pay only $11K less for a 5 year old vehicle with 70K miles? Buy it new and get a truck that doesn’t have somebody else’s French fries stuck between the seats. If it’s going to lose 2/3’s of its value in the first five years then that’s the vehicle you want to get used.
Should have watched the entire video. As soon as Doug said it was a good investment I ran out and immediately got a raptor. Too bad my fiance left me over it. But hey, at least I'll be sad in my new raptor.

I sold my 2011 Raptor with 209k miles for $24k about a year ago. The run forever, hold up very well and will take beating and you still get a crazy return when you go to sell it!
Tony Rigsby I've heard highway miles are basically like being idle, because the engine doesnt rev that much. The only thing it really wears down is the tires and suspension components.
@@Tony-ml5bs if the engine is poorly designed you can get some resonation issues which increase wear a lot. Though, good engines don't have that at highway revs.

A pretty noteworthy change over the standard F150.
Just bought a 2013 Raptor with 140k miles and paid $25k for the truck. It has everything. It came with the original window sticker and the letter of certification from Ford SVT. It has the beadlock wheels, color matched flares and bumpers.
I saw one of these in the UK on the M25 today. Was blue with a duel exhaust out the back. Looked great.. It was also 3x the size of everything and was far bigger than any range rover...
Range rovers are not terribly large, a full size pickup truck would definitely out size it by a fair margin. If we're talking large SUVs here, look at cars like the chevy suburban or the catillac escalade, those get pretty big.
STU-Kobe Bulik : I own a gen 2 Raptor in Los Angeles and am amazed at how many complements and stares it gets. You’d think it was an exotic or something.
Yeah, I bought my 2011 SVT Raptor for $52, 000. I looked on line a couple of years later and the average price for that truck used was more than I paid new.
I love my 2012 Raptor, it’s the best most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. You could get an upgraded interior with blue trim and brushed metal where all the grey plastic is and it makes it look a lot better.
FORC3OFX F3AR $50k for a truck isn't that much. BMW Mercedes and BMW use a lot of plastic as well. Of course better quality then these . But there suvs are also double the price
FORC3OFX F3AR I agree. Especially on trim you don't see plastic. Mercedes and Lexus is all I drive but I've been driving navigators lately. The one I have now and the one before I love.

he prefers reviewing stock or nearly stock vehicles... it was pretty awesome he managed that with the R34, but a stock mkiv TT is fairly rare, especially for someone not interested in traveling to get to one.
My parents have a 2014 raptor svt, with almost every option except for the HID headlights, the touch screen infotainment system, and a heated steering wheel. Other than that it’s fully leaded and it’s base msrp price was about 73 thousand dollars. I believe it was 75 fully loaded, and even today in 2019 the truck is still worth about 56 thousand dollars, which is insane, these vehicles simply do not depreciate! My dad also owns a 2017 challenger SRT 392 and he got that brand new for about 55 thousand dollars, and now two years later in 2019 it’s valve sits at about 38-40 thousand if in good condition of course, which is pretty good as well, but nothing compared to the way the raptor holds its value!
I bought a 2002 corolla with 126,000 miles for $1500. I later sold that car a year ago for $1600 with 159,000. Loosing 11 grand on a 5 year pickup truck sounds ridiculous.
I remember watching this the day it uploaded 2 years ago and now here I am proud owner of a 2013 Raptor. Made sense because I was already going to buy a new truck for 30k, why not just get this with way more features.
I love the fact that I started driving with a vehicle that had bad gas mileage from the get go...I haven't driven a vehicle with worse fuel economy than my first pickup so no matter the vehicle, I'm always surprised when I look down at a gas gauge 😁
If you ever happen to find yourself anywhere near Atlanta, I have a pristine, super low mileage, 100% stock (except for the window tint) 2008 Infiniti G37S with just about every option that was available at the time. I don't think I've seen you do a video on one before, and I particularly like the 2008 because it was the first production year, so I think it's a pretty cool and unique car. I don't see many of them around anymore. Especially not a meticulously kept '08 with less than 32,000 miles on it. I was looking at getting a 370z and went to test drive one, then just by sheer luck that same night my bartender friend told me one of his regular customers just bought a GT-R and was selling his G37S. He showed me some pictures and I just knew I had to have it. Got the guys name and phone number and called him within 5 minutes of seeing pictures of the car. I went and looked at it the next day, drove it, and fell in love immediately. It only had one owner before me, it has every single service record from the day it was purchased up through the 30,000 mile service, all of which was done at the same dealership where it was originally purchased. So I know exactly what's been done to it and when it was done. I purchased it about 500 miles after the 30k service. The guy I bought it from hardly ever drove it except for on weekends and it was and still is always garage kept. So I had it checked out by a mechanic and he said I'd be an absolute idiot not to buy it considering it was so well maintained and had just been completely serviced so I'll hopefully (fingers crossed) get some good mileage out of it before it needs anything done to it...sooooo I bought it. I'll send you an email, as I think it would be awesome for you to review it's quirks and features, of which it has many. I'd be quite honored to be able to say that Doug made fun of all of the silly gadgets, inconveniently small storage spaces, and other interesting things about my car. I love the thing to death, but if you're planning on having 3 (or even 2 passengers) at least one person is going to be really uncomfortable considering I'm fairly tall and have to have my seat almost all the way back to the point it's nearly touching the back seat. But the front seats are like sitting in a heated Lay-z-Boy chair.
Driving on I-75 in Atlanta day after day for a couple years makes that 32k miles more like 120k miles...that city & all the stupid traffic(& people) are hell on cars.
lol... no, it's actually a funnel for the fuel filler. Ford doesn't use gas caps anymore. It's more of an automatically sealing flap. So you know, don't drive off without putting the gas cap back on. I use it when adding any injector cleaner.
The Triton 5.4L was only available for a short time during the 2010 model year, it was replaced by the 6.2L as the standard (and only) engine option from 2011-2014. Also, that engine note is modified, you can tell it has an aftermarket exhaust by the fact that there is a tailpipe on the driver's side.
@@xenon42069 That is the name given to Ford’s modular 4.6L & 5.4L V8 platform that ran from the late 90s through the early 2010s. The 6.2L came from a different design, and was called the “Boss” platform.
My car cost about 5 grand in US Dollars. It's an 05 Camry with 148000km on it, about 90k miles. I could sell it for 5 grand in the morning and I've had it for 2 years. So no depreciation either and it was cheap to begin with. So don't be sad! You can avoid depreciation if you're poor like me! Not gonna lie. Prefer the Raptor to my Camry.
RememberClassicMan - to be fair he did clarify that it’s a good “investment” if you’re already in the market to buy a truck at that price point, obviously he wouldn’t advise someone to get a raptor if they where in the market for a Hyundai Accent or something of that caliber. Even if you can afford to blow the better part of 50k on a vehicle it’s nice to not loose half your money
No wait, listen, okay, listen up, this is important okay, it all makes sense. So much sense. Buy a huge truck, make money. It's so easy. Easiest way to earn money. I had a business class in college let me tell you. It's the best investment anyone can make. Well, not the best best investment of course. Lottery tickets are still better than a used F150 raptor. But the used truck is almost as amazing as a few thousand lottery tickets as an investment. Believe me, I wrote a blog post about it on my LiveJournal a few years ago. I know what I'm talking about. 🍄
The 6.2L was an option in 2010 and available around April 2010. The 6.2L became standard for 2011 and the 5.4L was discontinued for Raptor. But, TRUE you could not get a crew cab. Only super cab in 2010.
@@stepside2839 I tried ordering a 6.2L Raptor in June 2010 and my dealer told me it still wasn't available. I had given up and just waited until the 2011 MY. So if it truly was available in 2010 it had to have been extremely late and short availability. Either way it most certainly was not available when the truck came out
@@ZoomZoom81 you are correct it was not available when the truck first came out but made available midway through the year. I think it was about April 2010, So, probably June before it was readily available.
@@curtrn Lol that's not true though. I've got some criticisms for the guy, but his default answer is not just "buy a Toyota." Lol horrible truck to buy used. They advertise almost indestructible. People buy it try and break it for a few years then sell it with a premium price tag.
As long as you keep Ford trucks under 100k miles they are good if not they are notorious for problems after that. My shop receives plenty of Ford trucks some only having 80k miles on them and they are filled with issues. Ford truck owners are by far my biggest customers.
The editing in this video has blown me away. Your two camera angles and obvious difference in the sunset, yet you keep the monologue very fluid. Very impressive Mr. DeMuro.
I would argue your styling, fun, and cool scores. Its an absolute blast off road, and has far more "character" then the new ones. The grill and "hips" on the truck tell you this one is special. The redesigned grill opening made It far too easy to mistake a new one for a regular F150. I never get out of a gas station without someone asking about mine.
I like how he said sarcastically thank you ford for putting power fold on the mirror. But having oval button on a 3 million dollar car is the best thing ever go figure.

Just bought a 2013 Raptor with 140k miles and paid $25k for the truck. It has everything. It came with the original window sticker and the letter of certification from Ford SVT. It has the beadlock wheels, color matched flares and bumpers.
How has is held up? Im looking at a 2014 6.2 with 120k for 38k
Still going strong?

Haha, yup!

Yeah, I bought my 2011 SVT Raptor for $52, 000. I looked on line a couple of years later and the average price for that truck used was more than I paid new.
The Raptor is the best looking truck on the market by far.

I love my 2012 Raptor, it’s the best most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. You could get an upgraded interior with blue trim and brushed metal where all the grey plastic is and it makes it look a lot better.
Mike D plastic? I’m sorry but if I’m buying a car for that price I’m expecting Lexus /Mercedes quality interior even if it’s a truck, not plastic
FORC3OFX F3AR $50k for a truck isn't that much. BMW Mercedes and BMW use a lot of plastic as well. Of course better quality then these . But there suvs are also double the price
Mario L other than the dash you can barely find any plastic in Mercedes, same for Lexus. Bmw is trash so I don’t really count them
FORC3OFX F3AR I agree. Especially on trim you don't see plastic. Mercedes and Lexus is all I drive but I've been driving navigators lately. The one I have now and the one before I love.
@@forc3ofxf3ar51 brushed metal. Not plastic. The upgrade was tinted blue in color.
Sick video! Just as an FYI, quiet start simply disables the horn from honking if remote start fails
Exactly. The 6.2 raptor will always pull a premium. Like a couple of Nissan sr20 motors a week before race wars.

Instantly remember matt from demolition ranch when i see the raptor..

S S Send him an email. I’d love to see it
I've had a 2008 g35 sedan for 5 years now, have driven it 55,000 trouble free miles.

lol... no, it's actually a funnel for the fuel filler. Ford doesn't use gas caps anymore. It's more of an automatically sealing flap. So you know, don't drive off without putting the gas cap back on. I use it when adding any injector cleaner.
Back up funnel for the capless fuel filler?

The Triton 5.4L was only available for a short time during the 2010 model year, it was replaced by the 6.2L as the standard (and only) engine option from 2011-2014.
Also, that engine note is modified, you can tell it has an aftermarket exhaust by the fact that there is a tailpipe on the driver's side.

The raptor “Only lost 11,000 dollars”
I am sad cause I don’t even have $11,000, let alone enough to buy a new truck.
Let me guess : democrat?

RememberClassicMan - to be fair he did clarify that it’s a good “investment” if you’re already in the market to buy a truck at that price point, obviously he wouldn’t advise someone to get a raptor if they where in the market for a Hyundai Accent or something of that caliber. 🍄
Sorry Doug but check your facts on the engines. The 6.2L was not available the first year. You couldn't get the SuperCrew cab either. Only SuperCab.

Yep. First yea has crap 5.4
