I have zero practical reasons for owning an Raptor. I want one so bad.
Not many people do… yet they get it.
I feel same way hahaha
Same lol
Join the club, I’m about to refinance my house and get one 😭😈
Unless you drive on pot holed and rutted dirt roads often. If you do, you will wish you had a Raptor..
I'm shocked by the resale value... wow. when the raptor came out I said to myself that's a sick truck, maybe I'll pick one up used some day... looks like probably not anytime soon, haha.
volvo09 when the next generation is readily available th3 price should drop to something reasonable. Looking at dealerships nearby in see raptors with 100k miles going for like 5k below what they left the lot for. It's pretty insane, btw there's a bunch of college kids who have them and can't afford them, keep an eye put for when those go for sale :)
Yeah, but on the same Token do you really want a Raptor that's been owned/abused by a spoiled collage kid?
I'll buy it, I rather save 5k off msrp plus they are not that many out there. where I live Thera none available used and dealer wants more than msrp and people are willing to pay more than msrp.
Don't give up o your dreams Mr. volvo09 man. My 2013 Raptor is my daily drive. It's such a wonderful drive. This is the longest I've ever kept a single vehicle that I purchase new. Usually I lease or trade up after one year but I just fell in love with the Raptor. I don't even care if I get a new one. I have three other vehicles as well but the Raptor is my favorite.
David Zavala I feel ya bro, those rich people 🤔😒😔
Most typical truck drivers know that when switching from 4H to 4L you must first place the transmission in neutral.. this makes it shift way easier than driving 5 miles and causing it to clunk 🤣🤣 shows how much you know about your new Raptor
Wow has it been 3 years already?!? I still remember the video of you signing the papers and getting it from the dealer!
I love my raptor too. Same color just painted the wheels matte black. The whipple and livernois cams I had install really wake the raptor up. By far my favorite truck I ever had.
amsgtra9 how’s the reliability? Really looking into getting the 1st gen. Hopefully blue
That trade-in value is insane. Damn good investment.
not really, probably lost about $20,000 to interest.
You may not realize this, but the financing is separate from the trade in value and if you do the arithmetic you'll realize the interest over 5 years is about $5k.
20K! Jesus thats like a 40% interest rate. Doubt that!
yeah, probably about $5k
Lol, no car is a good investment. Same money put into Apple stock in 2014 would have been a “good investment”.
I recently got a 2010 SVT with the 6.2 l V8 engine. It has the locking gas cap as well as the flap. I like the added security feature of not having to worry about anybody stealing my gas while I'm out in BFE, and the gas station is miles away. I am also doing the 5 year purchase on mine. My base price was 28,995.00, and with all fees and interest it will be about 40,000.00.
But it's my dream truck, so I am extremely happy with it. Mine also originally came from Colorado as well.
Great video. I've got a 2011 with 145,000 miles on it now with minimal issues. No major engine or driveline issues. Never had the gas issue or locking into 4L either, so I think those may be isolated. I've had the check engine light come on once and said to check the fuel inlet. The service guy told me to blow air in the area which worked, so there was no service needed. Other than that, it has been a sound truck, but I'm selling now that I have an '18 on order and arriving soon. Hard to put a price on it, but NADA showed it was worth $31,800. Can't complain about that after 6 years and so many miles!
I have a 2011 F150 Raptor with 80K. Here are my known issues.
@ 15,000 mi - Rear sliding door went out. Fixed under warranty
@ 60,000 mi - The notorious clunking noise! Fixed under warranty
@ 72,000 mi - Backup Camara works when it feels like it. Fixed under warranty
Nothing major really. Love my truck. Can't wait until the 2020 Raptor with V8 Ecoboost.
Do 2011 raptors come with stock back up camera ?
Hey any other major issues you had?
Yours has a back up camera? Was that an option?
My 10 years old Lexus LX 470 now has 96k miles. Nothing but oil and other fluid changes, brakes, filter change. With all the issues roman listed and the raptor is so new. It's really unrealiable by my standard.
I have a 2010 F150 Lariat with the 5.4. 144k miles, 6 inch lift with 35s. I take anywhere. Hasn't gotten me stuck. Engine drives smooth. Gonna have the exhaust manifolds swapped for long tubes. I love it! My first truck I bought with my own money and it has been very good to me!
a modern car at 44k miles should have zero problems
Johnny Pea a modern "car" isn't going to see the levels of abuse these guys put the truck through.
Kenneth Draper and Ford is shit
Which is why it's the best selling vehicle in the U.S. for over 40 years.while GM depends on the government to exist. You have a rich fantasy life.
And that is a expensive truck too
Kenneth Draper Do sales numbers mean it's a better product?, McDonalds sells billions of burgers every year, does that mean they use the best quality beef?
I have a 2011 with nearly 80,000 miles no issues except for general maintenance. very happy with the reliability and the resale value is great.
definitely looking forward to a head to head of old vs new raptor
...another turbo hater.
And yes, it will.
Carbon build up is the big problem with the Turbo Fords.
.....it's the 2nd gen
Fatboy19831 the carbon build up is due to direct injection in the 3.5 engine. The newer version 3.5 engine will have port and direct injection preventing the carbon build up. Which ford should of done in the first place. Thats why i bought the 5.0l no problems.
I just like the first Raptor look better...
And the V8 thing..
Great video and info:
I have a 2012 f150 xlt 5.0 126k miles and have had minimal issues , a steering sensor and transmission leak at bulkhead connector, both around 60k fixed under extended warranty (never buy extended warranties if you keep an emergency fund, these repairs still didn't cover cost of warranty) work truck with 500lbs of tools in bed at all times
sounds like you didn't make use of your warranty...bought mines for about $2500 and service it 2x under warranty for a total of just shy of $3k...still have 2 years of warranty left
I've got a 2013 Raptor. Love it. My power steering pump quit at 26K mi. Covered under warranty. These trucks will not depreciate much as Roman mentioned.
that awkward moment when you try to show that something isn't working and it works perfectly fine with a camera on hand. LOL!
I bought a 1029 Raptor 6 months ago and it's bluebook is more than I paid for it. VERY good resale value, no issues so far. Good to hear the older one's are holding up well!
freaking love those Raptors. wish I could afford one
yes i love my 2013. Keep saving.
@Mr Nobody someone asked you who cares about toy ota
great new camera. the video is so smooth
+Shekhar Moona Thanks!
I have a 2013 raptor that just hit 61k. I beat on this thing every single day. I’m always flooring it, merging onto the freeway quick, take it to the desert at least once a month and romp around. It’s my daily driver and carpool for the kids. Only issues so far is the cheap 4wd vacuum lines. Mine were dry and brittle and when I changed the shocks I ended up cracking a line. To fix the 1 crack you have to buy the whole vacuum line assembly. Surprisingly cheap at like $50 bucks at the dealership. Took a couple hours to put in. Those lines need to be routed from the hub, across the front of the vehicle to the other side hub, and then up and across the engine bay. It’s a known problem with those lines breaking. I do all my own maintenance, but I do have a 100k unlimited warranty which I’ve never had to use. Been dependable to me. I’m tempted to get a gen 2, but I like the v8 and how I have mine set up.
i have a 14 year's old Toyota Land cruise that had none of these issues. great video as always.
I am on a 2010 Ford raptor I have done no repairs on the routine maintenance spark plugs oil changes and shocks my truck has 252,000 miles on it and still starts and runs like brand new every day
I really love the Raptor and that Blue color may make it more valuable since they discontinued that color for 2017. While I don't have a Raptor, I do have a 2013 with a 5.0L and it has been an awesome truck. I haven't had any of the issues Roman has stated. My steering wheel is stationary so that won't break but my brake controller has functioned just fine. The fuel filler has never malfunctioned and my factory brakes lasted me almost 80,000. My front brakes were ready to be changed but the rear still had half life when I opted to just replace everything. The only thing I have had to fix in 96,000 miles is the steering shaft. The shaft had a little play and made a clunking sound. Once I removed the shaft, I could see a little wear in the universal joints. Overall the truck still feels and drives like it did when I bought it. I am very happy with it and I wouldn't think twice about buying a new one. I will however buy the 5.0L version again. I managed a service station for 7 years and F150's did not normally need anything but routine maintenance. I think all the new technologies infused in these trucks makes them more susceptible to a service issue that has nothing to do with reliability. Infotainment centers in today's trucks have gotten out of hand.
My daughters fuel filler had the same issue. Turned out, the nozzle at one of the pumps must have been a little different size because she moved to a different pump and it works fine. She just avoids that pump and has had no issues with the gas cap mechanism.
Ford and dealers realized what a cash cow this truck is. We will never see another raptor under 70k
My 13’ has 2xs that mileage and I still consider it sorta low miles compared to a lot of raptor owners on the forums who beat on theirs as well. I beat on it every other weekend in the desert, and also tow a Polaris RZR, only issues have been the crap IWE 4wd system, but that affects all f-150 models and is a poor system. I removed it myself with some aftermarket kits that came out. At 60k’ish my sunroof broke (fixed under warranty) Other then that and normal maintenance and replacing worn stuff like brakes and tires it’s been flawless
Wow better residual value retained than a Taco. Very impressive.
lol that's so funny to me people are shocked by that Ford has been the been selling truck for 39 years even with the ecoboost
billy heaton The 92-96 Ford F-Serries trucks will outlast the new F-Serries trucks.
billy heaton you have to buy a new one every year cause they're gaaarrrbaaage
Very lucky to VHS such little issues with your truck . I had a early 2010 with a 5.3L with a supercharger and what a money pit !!! Glad you guys are enjoying your raptor thanks for the videos !
roman, youre the right man for this video!!
Thank you for the honest video!
Good long term review-video! in regards to the roll-on tonneau cover, Truxedo is of a much higher quality than the one mention in the video, with good quality locking mechanism! Have Truxedo on my 2015 Hillux Arctic Truck 37 inch.
I have 2012 big horn. It's had 1 issue it's entire life. At 140k miles the water pump went out. The truck is now at 156k miles. No other issues at all. I kinda want one of these raptors tho
At 3:33 "Over here is an oil stain from that old BSA Lightning Bolt motorcycle we bought..." Wow, that's the same model Hunter S. Thompson rode in his days riding and researching his classic 1966 book "Hells Angels." A great read!
Wow looking back I cant believe a raptor cost 53k. Thaf is crazy
Roman the clunk you heard was in the transfer case, not the transmission. And it should be covered in the 5 year/60k mile powertrain warranty.
phil tripe you are absolutely right i had an 89 4x4 the manual said to back it up approx 9feet than go foward my 05 fx4 pulling a trailer out of a yard did the same thing i backed it up and it came out of 4 wheel low
the Ford Raptor has a 5 year/60k mile drivetrain warranty. 4x4 should be covered under that.
I have an issue with your #2 issue. You are not suppose to drive it while it's trying to shift between 4 low and 4 high. Not to mention, driving it for 5 miles while it's trying to shift probably did some damage. Next time, try backing up a little ways to get it to disengage.
That being said, it should still be covered under the 5 yr/60k power train warranty.
I don't know about these newer ones but the older F150's you had to be neutral or park to switch between 4hi and 4low. And sometimes it helps to be rolling very slowly when switching back and forth.
The gas filler was because stations sometimes put on smaller nozzles as an emergency. Filling thru the plastic nozzle under theback seat will get you to the next fillup.
The cloth on the Roll-X underside keeps your fingers from being pinched in the slat joints while rolling. I removed mine after it all started falling off. The next time I rolled it I discovered its purpose the hard way. This is something they definitely need to cure with a more heat resistant adhesives. Other than that I really like mine.
I have owned a Toyota Prius for 6 years and 61,000 miles. I have had ZERO issues with it. Absolutely none. I haven’t even had to have the brakes done. It only cost $24,000 out the door.
So crazy. 53k brand new back then. Now the 2023 is going for 100k for the v6 and the v8 is going for over 200k. Just how everything is now. 53k is a lot but compared to the pricing now makes this sound cheap at 53k.
The truck has a 6 year 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. The Trans and transfer case all are under warranty
From your video, it looks like that cloth you mentioned is so the strap doesn't fray when you roll the top and buckle the strap. But that's just a guess.
I still see used 2010 raptor for 50k, WTF man, when am I going have my turn, you rich people lol
i had a 14 raptor spcl edition. all the goodies. sticker was $59,000 . drove it 16 months. dealer offered to buy it back at $56,000 . SOLD not a bad return
Tazzer what was the out the door price after taxes ect...?
check your power train warranty, it is typically 60k miles or more. I had my trans fixed under warranty at 57k.
44K miles in 3yrs boy you guys baby the shit out of this monster
Not really. That's more than the average person would drive. (which is about 10K a year)
Seraphim Valkyrin if you drive 10k a year you don't drive at all dude....
flodnA flodnA exactly
Seraphim Valkyrin Nope. According to the federal highway administration the average male between the ages of 35-54 drive over 18k a year. This truck was probably driven off road more than the average truck, but it's official miles are pretty low over a three year trend. www.fhwa.dot.gov/ohim/onh00/bar8.htm
Bradford Bradington its not a daily driver they made it as a weekend warrior.... Practically they baby the miles out of this ride
my 2013 F150 Raptor has 113,000 miles. 14.1 MPG over 113,000 miles. Zero issues. Zero. Also my original tires lasted over 100,000 miles. Go Ford. . Go Raptor!
my dad has a 2014 f150 fx4 and the thing has had no problems at all
Only thing that’s gone bad on my 13 Raptor is the steering pump.
I'm actually waiting on your direct comparison to determine whether I will be purchasing a 2014 Raptor super crew in white, with only 30k mileage for around $40k. or if I will just bite the $20,000 bullet and get a new one for around $62,000...
ypu are out of your 3year 36k warrenty but you should still have a 6 year 60k powertrain warrenty on the truck wich should cover the transfer case issue
I'm used to Toyotas and Lexuses that you drive for 10 years and absolutelly nothing goes wrong. 40k miles is still a brand new car to me.
My 2014 just hit 44k!
Your shocks haven't wore out yet? Especially considering how much you truly use the truck I would be surprised if they didn't need to be replaced or rebuilt.
90k on my Gen1 and loving it
That does sound like a lot to go wrong with a vehicle in the time that you guys have had it. My old Chevy with 170,000 miles has had about the same amount of problems.
So most of it was after market so thats good. The transfer case issue doesnt sound too good though
Nice vid , You did an upgrade to those brakes on the raptor , i wanna know how are they holding up and if it was worth it , where could i order them ?
Hey TFLT, you can still go online and purchase a factory extended warranty from Ziegleresp.
i just gotta say you nailed it
Tires and brakes are wear items, the winch and tonneau cover are aftermarket accessories NOT "problems".. so you've had nothing that has made it un-driveable.. the 4wd issue is probably because the chain got all twisted tight and took a bit to loosen enough so it could release. It happens.. not just on Ford's. I had a 90 Nissan that did the same thing occasionally, but kept working.. the body and frame rusted out totally at around 280k miles but I NEVER had the driveline apart except for a clutch at 138k. Good luck.
Fuel filler thing was probably just some dust in the mechanism that worked itself out. Of course, now it's probably in your fuel pump sock.
Please do a review of a Triton 5.4 on the Ike Gauntlet. A lot of us have them and would love to see your thoughts on how they hold up after all these years.
I'm surprised the trailer brake and telescoping steering wheel were covered under warranty. Thought the standard was powertrain only. Did you purchase extra warranty coverage?
I'm kind of jealous. When I had a 2005 F150 (Xlt, I think), the cheapest tires I could find were about $200/tire.
I thought it was going to have higher mileage. I've been contemplating on getting a used one with 100k miles, do you guys think that's too high?
Around 4 years ago I had an 05' silverado and thought it was time for a new truck. I knew about the raptor but I thought it was too expensive. I looked at the newer silverados, and almost ended up buying a GMC Denali i found for a low price, but I noticed the dealer had a Raptor out front and something told me to test drive it. (this was a used dealership so they had many brands of trucks) I knew I needed one after sitting in it's bucket seats. It was really fast and handled well. I ended up getting the raptor. I think if you find one with no major problems, all you need to do is replace all the oils in it and maybe rebuild the shocks if it feels bumpy over small bumps. Im going to get my shocks rebuilt soon because after driving 100k miles, they dont feel as good as they did when I bought it at 30k. Overall I love the Raptor. No other truck look that good on the road and seeing it in my driveway while I work in my office is a feeling of accomplishment. If its not too much out of your price range, then i'd go for it. (I know you asked this 2 years ago but if you already got a truck wich one?)
Yeet Despacito Fox recommends them rebuilt every 50k
Great review and your honesty on the flaws of this truck are appreciated. However, the KBB price for this truck is WAY overpriced. Why would someone pay this used price when they can spend $5-6k more for a new one - especially when these trucks are already as expensive as they are?
Because a used one will have more options, you get it right away, Even with discounts the new Raptor will be more expensive. Some people would rather have the V8 steel proven Raptor over the all aluminum V6 Turbo unproven new one.
sc12100 I have a 96 Ford F150 with 5.0L Windsor V8 with 203,601 miles on it and it's still going strong. The only thing I replaced on my truck was the starter but other than that mostly was just simple maintenance and cleaned out the transmission fluid just to get rid of the shuttering it was making and it hasn't had a problem ever since. I bought the truck back in Wentzville MO back in October of 2015 for $3300 with my own money by working two summer jobs, taking care of my neighbor's dog, also having birthday money, Christmas money, and graduation money so that way I don't have to be in huge dept unlike you would with a new car or truck and trucks these days are not only overpriced but they look hideous and ugly as well just any other modern vehicle you see on the road today.
In addition to the 3 year / 36k bumper to bumper warranty, Ford has a 5 year / 60k mile powertrain warranty. Is the transfer case / transmission issue not covered a powertrain component?
So, Smittybilt is Shittybilt. Thanks for the warning. Cheers!
There is no way it only depreciated 3 grand.
Matthew B it's an svt so it's absolutely possible and expected to not depreciate.
Matthew B Jeep Wranglers are the same! I bought one, drive it 2 years and 25k miles and lost $3k when I sold. Would have bought another but needed a truck.
Matthew B with ford not making the Raptor in 2015, this was the last model you can get. Demand is still high and it's an SVT, so it doesn't depreciate much
With all of the hate on the new Raptor coming with an EcoBoost I would expect 6.2L Raptors to continue to hold on to value for quite a while.
When they first came out if you had one that you paid list for you could re-sale it for a 3 to 5 grand profit.
your powertrain warranty should cover any 4wd problems for another 2yrs or 60k miles
7 years and 50k miles theres a raptor for sale for 45k
Id say that truck really holds its value!
The Powertrain Warranty should be 100,000 Mils and That includes The Transfer Case. These trucks Come with a 36,000 Mile Warranty for the Other parts of the Truck that is not Powertrain(Engine,Transmission,Transfer Case) are all cover by 100,000 Mile
Redwine Vids I thought it 60k 5 year powertrain? I think only the powerstroke got 10 year 100k?
Every ford my Family gets has a 100,000 Mile Powertrain Warranty.
How is three years a long term update?
Why is anything broken? Only 40k miles?! My 1996 4Runner didn't break anything until 216k miles.
Brad Boettner right? Over 50k? I'll stick to my Nissan Frontier.
Brad Boettner my '95 4runner still runs strong at 260k miles
Nathan Smith 98 Rav4 just passed 325k still 27 mpg
John Sotomayor we also have a '90 toyota pickup with the 22r 4 cylinder with 450k and still gets 25 mpg
I am getting 16 mpg average, mostly city driving and weekend warrior offroad trips. I'm currently in Frankfort, MI to drive through 68 miles worth of logging roads and 2 track trails. Currently 253,477 Miles as I type this. Couldn't be happier. only major replacement is the power steering rack. All original drive train
Roman, did you purchase any kind of extended warranty coverage?
+Aaron Fink nope
Powertrain warranty is 5yr/60k so you're still covered if there's a T-case issue...
SatinSilverStang Who's yo say whether the issue is an internally lubricated part of the drivetrain. There are all sorts of switches, servos, actuators, etc that are only covered by the 3/36 bunper to bumper, so this would require some sort of extended coverage.
How long is random warranty in USA? In Europe ( EU ) we got 5-7 years on majority of vehicles.
No extended warranty shenanigans afaik.
RoboDog Typically, 3 yr/36000 miles bumper to bumper and 5 yr/60000 miles powertrain. Some manufacturers offer longer coverage
In my opinion, 44k miles is not long term. According to Time magazine, the average American keeps their car at least 200,000 miles, with the average car being 11 years old. Still good to know about the Raptor though! It is an incredibly capable truck!
i’m considering buying a 2014 ford raptor with 124,000 miles on it. is that good?
Did you buy it?
Didn't you guys do a video your gen 1 raptor vs the power wagon on the old truth or dare? I thought I remembered the Raptor made it but the power wagon didn't, am I remembering correctly? I can't find it
So the truck is extremely unreliable (apparently to these internet mechanics) because a electronic steering wheel and trailer brake controller quit working? Btw you have to be stopped in neutral and put the truck in 4 high out of 4 low, then pull forward then put it in reverse and turn the steering wheel. It'll disengage.
The cloth which is hanging out is to prevent the roll to pinch your skin while rolling the cover to close, ask me how i know. Also will will miss the cloth on a sizzling hot day.
You didn't post a review on the after market break performance which u promised will do!
The F150's come with a standard 5yr/60000 mile powertrain warranty so the 4x4 system should still be covered.
Talal Eamail they aren't excluded. Its just a question of which part needs replacement that will determine if the work will be warrantied.
cabudge09 dealership in Paulsvalley okla.. has the best deal ever .. oilchanges and engine replacment for life.. thats right engine repalcment for life . .
to think this thing had to have brakes done to it at 35,000 is crazy to me. meanwhile my friend has a 2002 Chevy Duramax and has never needed to replace the brakes and has 300,000 miles on it.
Given the also short life of the tires, I'm pretty sure TFL beats the living snot out of this truck. Plus, they live in the most mountainous part of the country, and test this truck on the Ike Gauntlet. Gotta consider all of the variables before you say something is crap.
The spray in bedliner shouldve been standard in the raptor. My 2012 has a painted bed and I just think thats ridiculous. But whatever. At least they put a tonneau on em
Powertrain Warranty is good for 60k. bumper 2 bumper is 36k, Read that window sticker.
$250 apiece for truck tires isn't that bad actually. I really want to get one of these trucks.
Dunno if anyone asked this, but was the truck placed in neutral with your foot on the brake when changing from 4lo to 4hi? all my fords required that step going in and out of 4lo
14.1 mpg? Jesus Christ that's good. With my lead foot it would have been 10 mpg average in three years
I have a 2014 (28k miles) with the same 4x4 issue. How did ford resolve the issue for y’all? I am waiting to hear back from my dealer but from the numerous other videos showing the same problem it sounds like a new electric actuator/motor and a new t-case (if there are metal flakes)
I think I may move back to a Toyota.
Based off of any realistic standard of "bullet-proof" it passed. Two electronic conveniences failed and were fixed under warranty, everything else was a aftermarket add on.
Ryan Armstrong i wouldn't call it bulletproof, telescopic steering wheel, brake controller failed, even though they were covered under warranty it still should not be happening on a fairly new truck, makes me wonder what else is gonna fail after the warranty is up, it would not shift back into 4 high, after driving 5 miles they heard a big clunk, sounds like expensive repairs in the near future to me, all these things should not be happening on a truck with only 44k miles in my honest opinion
With all the issues and having spent your own hard earned cash for this truck, would you TFL guys say your happy with the truck? Or would you of made another purchase?
I just saw this video, I don't really get how a truck that has under 50k miles is a "long term review". My Z71 has almost 200k miles and haven't had any huge issues. I know it will go to 250k before even considering a new motor or transmission.
Re sale is one thing, but how much have you spent in gas. and once gas goes above 3beans again (nationwide), its not really that different than every other car (per mile)
Fix
Or
Repair
Daily
Do another video on it if you guys still have it ?
Have you rebuilt the Fox shocks yet?
family of three raptors here. We have rebuilt the shocks on one of the trucks at 70k at that time only the fronts where getting soft but it wasn't too expensive and wanted to save in-shop time. it now has 134,000 miles on it and running great!
Given the fact that Ford supposedly sells so many f150s. It's my opinion that this vehicle should of been given to you guys.
