For manual shifting from 1-2 install all springs. I can't verify this but I've heard installing half the springs will soften the reverse engagement.

Yes if you manually shift it. Otherwise probably not.
Is there a way to tell if a c 6 has a transmission break by the way it acts in the car ?
Not really. It will usually have wires coming out of the case somewhere if its transbrake equipped.
