To paraphrase what another watch youtuber said about the whole wearing another man's name on your wrist thing, "nobody seems to complain about this problem when it's a Lange"
I've had my blue dial twin flag logo CW63 for about 18 months now. The bracelet has the screw links and overall, the watch is excellent value and nicely made. I find it's spending way more time on my wrist than either of my Omegas.
I have the white dial GMT. Its very very good. I think the Sealander line is perhaps CW's most compelling strongest offering to date - I get the feeling that they are now becoming the watchmaker that we have hoped for. Makes me laugh when some other reviewers less enlightened than you Jody still call CW a "microbrand".
It has the characteristics of a perfect everyday watch: sufficient water resistance, screw-down crown, thin, 39mm, on-the-fly adjustable bracelet and great lume.
Christopher Ward incorporates their own design language while openly giving credit to their inspirations in their marketing material. This is the classiest possible way to execute a homage. Their marketing philosophy is so genuine and anti-bullshit. That's the reason I chose them for my first 'luxury' watch.
Spotted a 36mm Explorer at a local AD on Friday... went inside and had a nice chat with an employee, confirming my fears of getting (politely) laughed out of the AD for assuming *any* of their Rolex models on display were actually for sale. Went home frustrated and started looking for alternatives and then I remembered this video and the Sealander. Not too sure about CW's regulation though ... stating +/-20 s/day for an elaboré-grade (supposedly elaboré) and Jody's findings on the time grapher don't fill me with confidence, but when the next best option is a Tudor BB36 that's even more basic WRT looks and around 2.5 times more expensive, I'd be willing to take that "risk". Petty that CW is a UK company, though. Had I bought one of their watches last year, I would've saved quite a bit of money in import duties.
I’m a huge fan of CW watches; whilst I don’t like every design/model in their range, I am extremely happy with the quality and “ownership experience” of those in my collection.

I guess renaming and rebranding the company every couple on months wouldn't really help with customer binding. They have a well established brand by now which left the Microbrand-Status in my opinion and I also don't think their branding is that bad anymore, at least I don't mind it anymore.
@@P4LL3R True. . The "Christopher Ward" or "CW London" did wander around for a while.....but I was never a fan of the 9 position. Watching this while wearing my CW Compressor. I love the Light Catcher case. This one is the beans, in my book. Thinking of adding #5 to the collection . One of the nicest Explorer inspired watches I've seen in years. Just enough CW DNA to avoid being called an homage. Especially like the touches of red. Some people don’t like having another man’s name on their wrist, but for me, the problem is CW gets most of my name right except the last couple letters. I might glance down to check the time and forget who I am! Lovely dial though, and I really enjoy how the red tip of the second hand passes over the hour indices.
I purchased and reviewed this watch this week. I love the look and feel of this watch. I haven't found anything I truly dislike yet. The beveled sapphire crystal top really makes it punch up above it's weight class.
If I didn't already have the C60 Sapphire, I'd be buying this one. Definitely keeping an eye on this brand because their design aesthetic really hits the spot with my preferences. And yes that adjustable clasp is a joy.
I've had trident Pro 600 43mm for 3 years now. the 9 O'Clock logo doesn't bother me, as soon as you get it on your wrist the unbelievable quality of the piece is the only thing on your mind. I've had more compliments on it than any other watch I've ever owned
This three hander is an absolute stunner, full stop. Although I actually prefer the logo to be placed at 12 o'clock to the one at 9 o'clock it obviously wasn't a deal killer for me since I got a C60 Trident a few weeks ago. However I would like it even more if they replaced it with their double flag logo which is something Mike Francis isn't averse to based on his recent SoCal watch interview.
I honestly don't know why they are still using Christopher Ward as the logo. They have a very nice and clean logo with the duel Swiss flag. That is what should be at the 12 o'clock. Lose the name, looks too shopping mall jewellery store kitch.

They should trial run giving the option of ordering a version without 'Christopher Ward' on the dial. They have 3 or 4 designs I really like but can't get past it. I reckon if they had this option they would clean up.

I love CW watches. And I really liked the 9:00 logo. As far as wearing something with another mans name on it, we’ll, we all do it every day in the cars we drive, the clothes we wear, the sports we we enjoy, etc. etc.

I think the strap sets off the watch much more than the bracelet which tends to distract from the watch itself. Also took advantage of the latest discount. If you are a bit patient, you can always get a nice bit off the price with CW. A true everyday watch at a great price.
You’re right Jody. Sales went up by 25% on some models when they changed the logo (although sales normalised after a while) according to co-founder, Mike France.
I think this range with some stella dials would sell very well, a nice coral red or marigold yellow. They would have more than a passing resemblance to the Stella oyster’s and at CW’s price point would be well worth a punt.
As usual with the brand, a clean-plain design beautifully made. Simple, efficient with quality, you've got all you need. The whole C63 Sealander collection does the job very well... and specially for that price ! 😎
I am saving for one of these 👌🏻 Also I saw an interview with Mike France, (I forget which RUclips channel it was on) but he said he would like the brand to be able to just use the logo on the dial rather than text, but is waiting for the brand to get enough recognition to do so…
A few years ago i got one of the last CW Slimline Square with handwinding movement. Wasn’t a big success i guess. But i love it and i like the logo at 9 o‘clock. I also ordered a C63 Sealander GMT in White… can‘t wait to have it on my wrist.
Great case dimensions: ✅ Screw down crown: ✅ Quick micro-adjust clasp: ✅ Branding that makes it look like a fashion watch: ✅ CW would have sold so much more watched if they just went with a “C” and 🔱 running thru it or some trident logo instead of a first and last name spelt out.
I had the GMT but returned it in order to exchange for the regular one. Every time I looked at it on wrist, it just looked a bit cluttered. Just my opinion
They just provide great watches for the price no one can deny this . Owned many and never disappointed. One thing that perhaps can be levelled is they could be a little more adventurous with colour etc . If they introduced a few pastel colours with this they would no doubt fly off the shelves
I’ve just bought the white dial version of this watch. It’s a fantastic watch, for a simple 3 hander sports watch this is hard to beat. £100 discount code, so only paid £495, what a bargain !
I preferred the 9 o’clock logo; not because it was particularly appealing .... but because it was refreshingly different. That quirky British-ness was niche but, eventually, they had to succumb to the pressure I guess. Fortunately, I have a C60 Trident V2 pre-production watch (green ceramic bezel) that I will never sell, so I am fine if this is what everyone prefers. CW watches offer amazing quality ... you have to hold it in your hands to appreciate the quality.
I think they did dig a bit deeper in to rolex this time and tried to combine something. For example the dial reminds me to much of the Rolex Milgauss from 2009 if i am not mistaken, ofc without the seconds hand.
You are absolutely right! I so wanted to buy the C60 42mm in white from them .. but the position of the name at 9 instead of 12 eliminated my strong desire so I bought another white watch. I hope the logic goes back to the owner in Ward. And in short the guys in Ward will start to see Eye to eye the desire of their customers - and see your videos ...;) over all thanks to you for your reviews 👍🏽
You know, I was just about to post on this but I’m taking the opposite approach. I like it. To me it’s different. Symmetry is overrated. And there are enough watches out there with huge crown guards. I don’t mind subtle.
I think the name at the 9 o'clock was a very clear brand image of CW watches and they would lose something if they ditched the name from the dial. The crowds will always drive you towards the most bland and average but you can't build a company's brand on that basis, sometimes you need to ignore the crowd and keep your individuality. This watch reminds me of my Islander-36 which in turn is based on the Seiko SARB-033. The Islander is half the price of this one and i think it looks just as good and i would buy the SARB for the same sort of money.
With the smaller dial and longish batons I don't think the name would squeeze into the 9 o'clock position. I dont mind the logo not being applied (I had the "Seiko" logo fall off one of mine) looks great I will be watching their next sale! (£700 in the UK) . Look forward to longer review.
So how did "Mr. P" get his C63 Sealander so quick !? I've been told I will not see mine till the end of May. He must have some serious pull with C. Ward. I think they honestly nailed it with this design!
I didn’t mind the logo/name placement and loved the c60mk3 but also got a Dartmouth and Sandhurst and slightly prefer the “normal” placement. I will probably get one of these some time soon, might wait to see what the blue looks like (coming soon) Edit* got the blue dial today (4days after initial post)
I have this watch in the white version, my second CW.... it’s a solid watch which is well made and looks great. For my thinner wrists it’s perfect but would also suit bigger wrists...
Great video and thanks for doing what you do! I haven't held a Rolex Explorer or even an homage of one, but I am lusting after something that has that vibe but i don't think this one does it for me, just not feeling the Explorer I vibe. Sadly, due to the name, regardless of the placement, I get the "mall watch" feel which is rather unfortunate for something so expensive. Plus, as many others have sad, I too get more of a Seiko vibe. As a comparison, I just pick-ed up the Seiko SRPE53 and think that one's "all around, do everything look" looks better than this CW. Although, the SRPE53's bracelet and movement are inferior to this one! But I hope Mr. P enjoys this one and as always, keep up the great work you do for the community! Cheers!
I regret selling my CW C8 flyer so I’m hoping to pick one of these up soon. But I’m opting for the black dial with the black/white Recycled sea plastic strap
that watch in the UK is for sale at £595 with a leather strap £100 off voucher that brings it down to £495 get another watch of that quality for that price
Christopher Ward one of the best value for money watches on the market now for my opinion, especially with their sales. Also never had problem with logo at 9 o'clock. I think on sport modern watches flat saphire crystal match better. My only complain here is no no date version(
Really really like this. Perfect specs for me, and much cheaper than a Monta...or an Aquaterra! That case is a beaut, nice bracelet, and very good water resistance. Interested to see if there are any other dial variants.
I actually think that the Sealander has better proportions than the Explorer...the thinner bezel is very nice. Also, it is so odd to me that people complain about a name on a watch. Don't they realize how many of the big-name watch brands are someone's name? (Rolex the big exception).
Have been looking forward to you doing a review of the Sealander watches from CW. This one is on my radar but as my watch spending has been a liitle high during lockdown it will need to wait a while. However CW does have a £100 off voucher running till the end of June so who knows. It looks great as does the GMT. The branding does not really bother me but I gather from an interview with Mike France from CW that was on youtube the logo may at some point become their "two flags" and the full name would go from the dial. The "two flags" is on the crown at the moment. Their watches are well made and prices are competative. Currently I have a Dartmouth and a Trident Vintage Diver both are great. Add in the 5 year warranty ( it works ) and for me great customer service what's not to like. Great video as usual. Glad you got a Divers 65 back, mine is on wrist as I type. Stay safe and stay clear of Hamtun !
First CW watch that I've considered buying. They've always had great specs, build quality, overall design...I just couldn't bring myself to like the logo. This is at the 12:00 at least. I like the size and I'm really liking the white dial version. It reminds me of an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra. Does anyone know if the pre-order pricer will be the same as a regular order price?
They make nice watches and I want to like them, but I just can’t get excited enough for any one model to pull the trigger on. I always love the specs and features and keep thinking the next model will be the one for me.

I am saving for one of these 👌🏻
Also I saw an interview with Mike France, (I forget which RUclips channel it was on) but he said he would like the brand to be able to just use the logo on the dial rather than text, but is waiting for the brand to get enough recognition to do so…
Stay well everyone.
Don’t tell me what to do. I do what I wannnnnnmmmmt!
A few years ago i got one of the last CW Slimline Square with handwinding movement. Wasn’t a big success i guess. But i love it and i like the logo at 9 o‘clock.
I also ordered a C63 Sealander GMT in White… can‘t wait to have it on my wrist.
Great case dimensions: ✅
Screw down crown: ✅
Quick micro-adjust clasp: ✅
Branding that makes it look
like a fashion watch: ✅
CW would have sold so much more watched if they just went with a “C” and 🔱 running thru it or some trident logo instead of a first and last name spelt out.
Yeah but even better, remove the name entirely and just keep the ghost flag logo on 12 and it would be perrrrfeeect 👌
Amazing watches for the money - great design and build quality and doing great for the British watch scene.
I'm definitely buying one, my problem is I can't decide between GMT or Reg, bracelet or leather or rubber strap. Decisions...
Traska summiteer for you
I’ve just bought the white dial version of this watch. It’s a fantastic watch, for a simple 3 hander sports watch this is hard to beat. £100 discount code, so only paid £495, what a bargain !
Well don Kristian. Yo bought a great watch for a great price. Big fan of CW!
Yes, the 9 o’clock logo was a deal breaker for me. 12 o’clock logo is a winner and I’m about to buy the Sealander.
CW watches offer amazing quality ... you have to hold it in your hands to appreciate the quality.
logo at 9 balances the left and right side of the watch with the date window at 3. I like it better than logo at 12.
And in short the guys in Ward will start to see Eye to eye the desire of their customers - and see your videos ...;)
over all thanks to you for your reviews 👍🏽
This reminds me more of an Aqua Terra than an Explorer, especially the white dial. Very nice! I could see myself owing this one day...
Sealand is a real place btw and makes for an interesting youtube search
The crown guard bothers me, is too small to be a design statement, but big enough to break symmetry.
You know, I was just about to post on this but I’m taking the opposite approach. I like it. To me it’s different. Symmetry is overrated. And there are enough watches out there with huge crown guards. I don’t mind subtle.
I have a C60 Trident like you tested and I don't care that the logo is at the 9 at all.
Nice looking well built watch.
Am I the only one who liked the name at the nine o’clock position??
One of the few I think...
I like it there too, but I also like it at the 12.
Mr P is probably the guy presenting. Talking about himself in the third person for security reasons.
I didn’t mind the logo/name placement and loved the c60mk3 but also got a Dartmouth and Sandhurst and slightly prefer the “normal” placement.
I will probably get one of these some time soon, might wait to see what the blue looks like (coming soon)
Edit* got the blue dial today (4days after initial post)
I have this watch in the white version, my second CW.... it’s a solid watch which is well made and looks great. For my thinner wrists it’s perfect but would also suit bigger wrists...
I think this watch is really great for the price... I don't know other watch with that style of clasp for under 1000 u$d
Zelos has them.
@@Psysso i didn't know... I don't look at Zelos that much because I think they are practically impossible to acquire, at least for me
Great video and thanks for doing what you do! Cheers!
Shoooo
The red touches are really pleasing
I regret selling my CW C8 flyer so I’m hoping to pick one of these up soon. But I’m opting for the black dial with the black/white Recycled sea plastic strap
that watch in the UK is for sale at £595 with a leather strap £100 off voucher that brings it down to £495 get another watch of that quality for that price
Christopher Ward one of the best value for money watches on the market now for my opinion, especially with their sales. Also never had problem with logo at 9 o'clock. I think on sport modern watches flat saphire crystal match better. My only complain here is no no date version(
I have the C65 Trident GMT, and I love it. However, I would perfer the original C Ward, London loggo at the 12 o'clock position.
Do not have an issue with the name or placement. I have one and agree it's a great value, well built timepiece.
So much fun watching your videos , thanks .
It’s a very sharp looking watch! Great review as always Jody!!!
Harry Winston ok for you?
They make nice watches and I want to like them, but I just can’t get excited enough for any one model to pull the trigger on. I always love the specs and features and keep thinking the next model will be the one for me.
Yes, the asymmetrical nine o'clock branding was a deal breaker.. new look is much better.
