- GRAND DUQUE DALBA Brandy Review No. 41
Welcome to Max's Cognac Review. I am an avid cognac enthusiast and explorer. There is very little information and opinion on quality cognacs so I felt compelled to share my nose and thoughts. The goal is to help educate and assist others in making the right decisions for their palate and wallets. Please enjoy it with a wee dram!

Excelent review Max,this was a favourite of my dsd, greetings from México
Great review. You inspired me to do my own reviews and try cognac. Big shout out to you Max! Had me a nice Frapin tonight. Cheers.
The Last Drop thank you! I truly appreciate the kind words and support! I will certainly subscribe and look out for your reviews. The more the merrier! Cheers 🥂
I have a vintage bottle of this I'm loving your description of it still like rewatching all these videos
Intelligent remarks without the flights of fanciful comparisons most boozologists reach for. On your review I'm going to give it a try...sounds about right for our damnably cold mid-winter...near a roaring fire. Thx,
awesome review Max! This and Cardenal Mendoza are my favorite brandies. They are full of flavor, affordable, and perfect after dinner drinks. Full impact on the nose and an explosion of flavor. Cheers from Miami- Chris
Hey Chris! Thank you! I was blown away. I can not believe that it took me so long to discover. I am looking forward to trying the Cardenal Mendoza Carta Real! Cheers 🥂
Max's Cognac Review you will love it. I always tell my friend about Spanish brandy but with one distinction-- Cognac is special and different- refined and exquisite. Armagnac, its own unique flavor profile. Too often people try to compare these 3. They are all amazing and so different.
Max, trust me on this.. i will recommend a spanish brandy that will blow your mind- Brandy Navazos Palazzi. Its on another level. Next time i get some, i will send you a bottle.
Christopher Fallon You are too kind! I can’t lie.... Spanish Brandy is putting my loyalty to Cognac to the test! They are not easy to find, but I certainly look forward to trying more expression/houses. Thanks again for the recommendation and the kind words! Cheers 🥂
@@chrisfallon77cuando pueda , pruebe , el Brandy Luis Felipe, seguro que le gustará un saludo desde Málaga 😊☺️☺️
It's been my favorite drink for decades and it was my first step to the world of whisky kept in sherry casks. Thanks a lot for review.
I have been meaning to give this a try! Thank you!
My pleasure! 🥂
I got a bottle of this expecting a typical Brandy or even Cognac. I find this more like a *VERY* smooth Rum. As a matter of fact, I kept thinking Rum when I was drinking this.
I'm currently drinking Lustau De Jerez Solera Gran Reserva Finest Selection Brandy a very similar brandy
How does Grand Duque Dalba compare to Cardenal Mendoza brandy? Thanks
Sector 001 hey happy new year! I just got my hands on the Duque D Alba. It’s the first Spanish brandy I’ve had the pleasure of trying. I’ve heard that the Cardinal Mendoza is the go to Spanish Brandy so I am going to order a bottle. Their entry level is only $40 but they have a “Carta Real” expression that is supposed to be on another level. I would try and get my hands on it if possible. That being said, the Grand Duque D Alba blew me away. You can’t go wrong! Cheers 🥂
Have a happy and a safe 2019, Max!
@@MaxsCognacReview Hello from Philippines. I just wanna say that type of 'Spanish Brandy' you are drinking is called Brandy de Jerez which is produce exclusively from Sherry Triangle of Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Sanlúcar de Barrameda and PHILIPPINES is top market followed by Netherlands and Germany. What I mean is many Filipinos think of Spain when it comes to Brandy not knowing of France (Cognac et Armagnac) but who knows? I'm just happy you appreciate this because while Brandy de Jerez is relatively unknown outside Spain and Philippines, we are no.1 fan. You can buy it anywhere here. CHEERS!
@@MaxsCognacReview I hope you review St-Rémy Small Batch and Chardonnay Cask finish. This Non-Protected recipe comes from France and is not branded since it is produce outside Cognac and Gascony.
@@MaxsCognacReview la próxima vez pruebe , el Brandy de las bodegas Larios, el Brandy Solera Gran Reserva Larios 1866, seguro que le gustará un saludo desde Málaga 😊😊☺️
Thanks for the review :)
My pleasure! 🥂

Do they add E150 coloring to the brandies from Jerez?
If not that’s got huge natural color from the oak.
They use sherry casks unlike cognac that uses fresh/charred oak. Although it is possible E-150 is used, the color certainly comes from the sherry casks used. Highly recommend giving this brandy "sherry bomb" a try if you have not already! Cheers
Sweatpants and a dress shirt? An bold fashion choice, but an impeccable brandy review, nonetheless. I enjoy Jerez brandy too, though the sherry presence can be overwhelming at times. I find myself reaching more often for the non Jerez Spanish brandies, such as Torres. Torres 5 and 10 I would skip, but Torres 15 and 20 are actually fit for human consumption. Unlike the Jerez brandies, that cover the spirit character with a heavy cloud of sherry aroma, older Torres 15 and 20 allow for the spirit to shine.
Christian Ivanov Ha! My fashion sense takes a back seat to comfort at times. I truly appreciate the kind words! I agree the Jerez Brandy’s are good, but the Sherry influence can definitely be overwhelming at times. They are great for settling the stomach after a big meal and I find myself reaching for them as a Sherry or Port substitute. I tried the 15 year Torres recently but I have yet to try the 20 year. I am looking forward to picking up a bottle!
Please review lairds applejack brandy
Cone E ac?
This is hilaraious "Duke" Ger-rez" 🤣🤣
I think what I know what my next purchase will be

Awesome Reviews, Definitely subbed , Also was wondering if you would review an armagnac called Chabot Xo, i heard it competes with top xo cognac, Cheers
Thank you Shatter! I am a big fan of Armagnac! I am waiting on a bottle of Delord 25 year. I have seen Chabot around. I will certainly look out for a bottle! Thanks for the recommendation. Cheers
I want to grab a bottle. I wish it didnt have added sugar, however.
I agree with you Dan. In general I hate any and all additives. I prefer my poison straight from the barrel! Cheers
