    Always good to know that you are not a horrible snake caregiver if (should say when) your snakes get mites. You can walk out into your backyard (even if you don't see snakes there) and get mites.

    I appreciate this video, I'm a breeder and only been doing it a few years but I have 60 some snakes and it's a pain. Even though predatory mites can work, they die off after their food source dies off and eventually they always seem to come back. I'm just going to keep treating with this stuff, I've had luck with it in the past.

      @@210Juggalo you have to fight them it's a battle no matter what you do the key is choosing one of the sprays/treatments & being very consistent cleaning each snake & cleaning each enclosure also using paper towels helps to spot the snake mites if the spray your using doesn't work try a different treatment method Jason has mentioned in this video!

      @@j.diazreptiles8279 ok so I was using jurassi mite from the pet store it didn't seem like I was making any progress on killing them, I'd would spray their body once every four to five days but I noticed that the mites started to get in their eyes so I got a damp q tip and gently pulled back the skin by the eye and gently brush the q tip against the mite, I avoided touching the eye as much as possible, I cleaned out the mites one by one killing them as got them out from under their skin, but after 3 weeks, the mites got worst so I order reptile spray and a can of provent a mite, I took the snakes out and let them soak in water for 10 mins or so, then I rubbed a drop of dawn dish soap on their body then put them back in the water for 40 mins, I read somewhere that mites will drown in 20-30 mins so an extra 10 mins wont hurt because I had a heat pad to keep the water around 80° - 83° figured that would be comfortable for the snakes, i sprayed the prevent a mite in the terrariums and closed them up to let them dry, after the 40 min soak, I pulled the snakes out of their tubs one by one rinsed them under running water to get any extra soap off of them then dried them up and applied reptile spray to the snakes body and rubbed it all over top to bottom avoiding the eyes, mouth, and nose, I then got a q tip and dipped it into a small amount of reptile spray and applied it to the mites under their chin then I put them in their terrariums one by one after the spray dried on their body, (keep in mind that I waited till the provent a mite was dried and had no odor in the terrariums) last night was a second treatment after a four day wait but the first time I used reptile spray in the terrariums instead of provent a mite, but I received the provent a mite two days ago so I tried it, so last night was the first time with provent a mite but last night I looked the snakes up and down I only found about 8 mites on 5 snakes last night but I will be spraying them again in a few more days to kill any remaining mites, I will be doing this for about 1 month and a half longer just to be sure they are gone for good! If this works out for me, I'll make sure to update everyone on the progress after a few more treatments!

    I know this video is older, but I just discovered mites in my collection. Luckily, I only have 5 snakes, but my Central American Boa got a respiratory infection and died within 2 days. • @JasonsExoticReptiles
      @JasonsExoticReptiles  5 лет назад +1

      Thats awesome to hear man thanks for watching and the feedback! The breeder isnt completely wrong as it does cause a little bit stress, but I'd rather put a little stress in one snake now than take the changes and put a lot of long term stress on everything I own and risk getting other sick or killed. The risk/reward is just worth it to me. And those past strips work great. They say they last 4 months, but I usually change most of mine every 2 months or so.

    Cool video, I just had to treat a single snake for mites. I soaked it in warm water with a few drops of dawn for 2 days on a heating pad and thermostat. It's a young lavender albino and there were only 2 small mites but it bummed me out, I keep my snake room super clean and always keep new snakes away from the snake room for at least 2 weeks but somehow it got them. They appear to be gone but I'll get some of that spray and treat him again and the rest of my snakes for that matter. Thanks for the advice.

    I’ve used this in the past but never sprayed the head, just kinda rubbed it on and what had happened was the mites moved into the vents, eyes and mouth to get away from the spray. I love the product and it works well but do you have a recommendation how to avoid that? I havnt had mites for a long long time but I use preventative measures, but just in case I’d like to know if you feel it’s safe to put a good amount around the eyes and vents.

Used a cotton swab and held his head as gently as possible and take the swab and carefully run in under his eyes, I pulled the skin under his eye back a little to expose them a bit better, no harm to snake but the 3 mites under his eye are gone.

    I am having trouble with mites now after owning my snakes for 9 months, I bought 2 babies from the internet and bought a 1yr old bamboo from someone local. The bamboo had spots that I could not tell because it look like it was apart of its design. I put him water and later added dawn dish soap and never seen anything in water or after I put him on paper towels later. I keep him away from the others for weeks because I didn't see any mites. I got my babies from a place in Florida that I don't want to say there name because I can't be a 100% they had them when they shipped them to me. I didn't put them in water because I didn't want to hurt them, 2 months later the baby Mojave has lots of mites. I have them all 5 of my snakes in dawn water. The only one that has any dead mites in the water is the Mojave. I will go buy reptile spray tomorrow but I used nixs to clean and spray everywhere.

    Hi Jason, I went to my nephews house to feed the animals as they are out of town and had been for a week. When I looked at the Blue tongued skink I was shocked. It had white dust all over it and all different sizes of mites all over. She was so lethargic and I knew she was in trouble. I had to look up all the info I could and so I got her into a warm bath with a mite spray. The lady at the pet shop said to soak her in that. I had water only at first and she drank a lot then I put in the mite spray and she drank that too!!! Should I be worried? I put her in a ten gallon tank with paper towels and change them at least once a day and I squish any I see. I also give a warm water only bath each day where I drain and have the water run on her to get more mites off. Man these things are tough to kill! Please let me know what else I need to do or any suggestions. Thanks......from a grossed out auntie! Lol

    Please help! I have a question about the spray. The bottle says to spray the snake, but it says if you spray the enclosure, you need to wash it thoroughly before putting the snake back in. This confuses me & makes me scared to use this on my 7 month old and 11 month old BPs.

      It happens. It's because they are typically one large enough to see once they have matured and fed on the snake. So usually you qont see mites until there are thousands of them. Make sure to treat hard and consistent. Even after you dont see them anymore you will still want to treat for 3-4 weeks just to make sure they are all gone.
