First, I'm very sorry you have to deal with this... but its probably a good thing you have them now.
Second, I recieved 3 hognose BABIES from a breeder with mites... never having dealt with them before. I researched like crazy and was worried about the nix on babies. I found a NERD video and a snake discovery video both saying dawn original dish soap would drown the mites(one recommended days worth of soaking which I wasnt comfortable with).
I ended up taking the container they came in, and putting just enough warm water to cover their bodies with a drop of the dawn dish soap every few nights. After a little over a week they were gone completely... I did continue for 3 weeks just to be sure the eggs were hatched and dead. It worked really well, and they just kept their little heads up out of the water. It creates a resistant surface that drowns the mite... I was really impressed (dawn is that soap that they advertise for removing oil from wildlife such as ducks etc..)
Inexpensive, safe, and worked like a dream. I also soaked the enclosures, and kept them quarantined.

Interesting take on the Keeled scaled snakes being resistant to mites, I have experienced this as well but I’m wondering if you have any other data to back this up? I’m very interested in looking into why this is.
I have a lot of Rattlesnakes and boas, I had a mite infestation that affected all of the boas but not a single mite was found on my rattlesnakes or in their enclosures… I’m trying to figure out why…

My question what do you do for the tanks I’m taking all the bedding out and getting new bedding but do you just spray it with the same solution with the nix?
And what do you use for your cleaning solution for the tanks normally ?

I inspected the snake on two separate occasions while there and didn’t notice until I was almost got home. Now I’m trying to combat the mites. Is this method safe for small snakes? I have a year old Leucistic rat snake and corn snake -I have not seen any on the rat snake and he's the recent addition. The corn snake I've had for over a year but today he's been in and out the water dish and I see small black dots but I'm not positive it is mites. I don't see any movement and I have no idea how he could of gotten them other than the new rat snake which I've seen none on and he's in a separate room. I know this is an old video but I'm desperately searching for a safe way to treat him.

Adam, I use Sevin dust... Have been using it for years... Just sprinkle a bit on top of bedding and voila! No mites ever! I kept infecting my collection using the aspen bedding from my local Fleet Farm... now I sprinkle the Sevin dust on every time I do a bedding change or add any new bedding and have not had any problems in over a year... This even takes care of a new snake with an infestation... First I used Natural Chemistry Reptile Relief Spray to kill all current mites on snake.... spraying this on my hand and wiping down much like you did with coconut oil, and then treat bedding with Sevin dust.... mites were gone immediately... no 2 weeks of treatments.... check it out!

I've been using the provent a mite method, but im still getting a couple mites per change of bedding, and it's probably because i cant physically reach the back of the racks to clean them. Several predatory mite species eat reptile mites, if you have a natural substrate they will go absolutely ham on the reptile mites of all stages - egg, juvie, and adult forms. Once there are no more reptile mites they simply die off.

I just picked up my beautiful ball python and seen he was infested with them I took him into the bath tub filled it with warm water and started bathing him then I ran warm water all over him to rinse him of them I sent my husband to get the mites spray had him take everything out of the tank washed it really good and all the stuff also spray it with the stuff and put white paper towels down I’ll be checking him and the other 4 I also had to bathe and wash my little baby one and did the same I’ll be keeping a close eye on them all for the next week and keep bathing them all and spray the stuff that is made for snakes to put on them to kill the nasty little mites. I was so angry when I seen they were all over my beautiful Enchi and black eyed Lucy well hopefully I can get them all out and kill all the nasty little bugs. They were very clean before I knew it was probably on the mouse or the rats that they had from the pet store because they were clean and didn’t have them before it . I’m seriously considering getting frozen rats or mice for them to eliminate any future incidence . I know they were probably happy I bathed them and a little scared but they knew I would not hurt them and they seemed ok and actually didn’t mind the warm water bath for a while. Now they are resting with the clean tanks and white paper towels and I’ll keep checking and washing and spraying the special spray just for them I’ll put the spray my hands and then run it though the body avoiding the head and eyes so they are safe but thank for the coconut oil I’m going to get more of it and start putting it on the for future reference and it’s more natural and not harmful so yes definitely thanks for the video and explaining everything people need to know about it . I’m also glad you got the two beautiful python and I think and know they are very happy and healthy with you having them and taking care of them. Thanks for the awesome video tips and all else. Love and light snakes are beautiful creatures ❤️🐍❤️

When I got my first snake, I got him from a pet store and I got everything else for him from another pet store. Somewhere from either one of those places he got mites. I had never had a snake before, so I didn't immediately recognize that he had mites, and then I had to go on a week stay with my grandparents for personal reasons, and I left my mom to take care of him. She has never had a snake, but she helped my sister take care of her 4 snakes. When I came back, the tank was infestee, and he had almost his whole body was covered in mites. His head was completely covered except for his mouth, and there was a pinkie in the cage from I'm guessing the meal he just had while I was away and he had thrown it up. Since I wasn't there I am not entirely sure why he regurgitated it, but I can guess its because he was under so much stress and his whole body was covered in mites. My dad told me to put him in olive oil. I said hell no. I still don't know if that's a good idea or not, but I won't try it if there are better methods. I woke up the next day with a dead snake.

You were only gone for just 1 week, and in that time your snake got so infested with mites that he was completely covered??? And his head entirely covered as well? In one week?

Funny when you said they are similar to head lice did you know you can use mayo to kill lice in your head. It also helps to get nits out of the hair. I always use mayo on kids now instead of the chemicals you buy at the store.

A year later, no one replied. So wanted to bump. I was trying to help a family get rid of lice. Went thru atleast $300 in poisons, shampoos. All the name brand stuff. Even doc prescribed. They would be gone, then come back worse, then worse. Putting Mayo on the head for a day with a shower cap killed everything. One gallon jar of Mayo did the trick after having almost a year of struggle.

@@thepain321 super lice are resistant to typical lice treatments and treatments won’t help at all. Only way to get rid of super lice is to use oils/mayo, and ALOT of patience with a nit comb to comb them all out by hand. And super lice seem to be becoming much more prevalent all over the US these days

Is there an easy way of getting to the head and under the chin area? Or do you recon I'm just gonna have to brave it and take a bite? I don't mind doing that as long as she's gonna be okay

I bought some snakes from very very reputable breeders and guess what , whether shipping gave them to them ( doubt it) they had mites not terribly infested , but Nix was the best way to treat them diluted Nix and poof gone after 2 treatment gone in 3 days never again will I get something without a real prevent and treat before entering my collection, It’s definitely the best way man Nix dilute , I keep only nix in my snake room now and spray once around my room a month , and snake can be sprayed directly in the face with diluted Nix even juveniles, none of my snakes were effected in any way being sprayed in the Nix dilute, Never has a snake been hurt or toxic syndrome from Nix diluted sprayed directly on them , I treated 65 snakes directly from 2 week to 12 year old snakes nobody was hurt and I dowsed them and paper toweled them off

    • @EquitySolutionRayRaz

@@kjohnson8483 I didn’t rinse it off , I used the diluted mix and sprayed them and held them til dry , one good spray from a foot or so away to the face also , I sort of sprayed in the air and let it rain down on them while holding and for the really small ones we actually sprayed it all over our hands and then rubbed it all over the snakes , I am a firm believer in quarantined animals from a collection of a minimum of 2 weeks , or two weeks without any issues at all before they get to go to my snake room , I’ve saved my butt several times already as far as mites etc , just be persistent and thorough with it
